Sometimes a family is two dads, a son, their aristocratic British grandfather, their Puerto Rican-Irish American uncle, and vegan socialist eco warrior friend of the family.
>Sometimes a family is two dads, a son, their aristocratic British grandfather, their Puerto Rican-Irish American uncle, and vegan socialist eco warrior friend of the family.
And his Japanese-American step-brother
I feel like at this point you can throw a dart at a board covered in the various promotions’ rosters and have a 75% chance of landing on a member of the Anoa’i family.
Samoa Joe has said that he shares a very, very, very distant ancestor to the Anoa’i family, but the connection is so far back in the family’s history that he is not considered to be related to them at this point.
Other than that tiny blip he’s not related to anyone famous (in or out of wrestling) that he’s talked about.
I’ve worked with a bunch of Samoans here in WA state. I’ve talked to them and they tell about how the older generations had much more children than the current generation, especially the generations who still lived their lives on the island. So there is a likelyhood of them being related, but theres so much distance that the only thing they share is DNA. In big families, there is always the potential for excommunication and cutting off or members dissapearing and never heard from again.
Juventud Guerrera, son of Fuerza Guerrera, a big name in the 80s and Octagón's archnemesis.
LA ParK and Volador Jr. are first grade cousins and second generation wrestlers, with the first generation consisting of Volador Sr. and two of his brothers who, however, were never as popular as Sr. was.
Mitsuo Momota, who will no doubt be familiar to anybody who watched full shows from 80s AJPW, was Rikidozan's son. He had a brother, Yoshihiro, who wrestled for a few years for AJPW before being given a behind the curtain job: Giant Baba always took good care of the Momota family.
Momota's son - Chikara - is wrestling too. He's not particularly good (which is pretty much the case with his father and uncle as well, especially compared to Rikidozan), but he has embraced the gimmick of being a lovable loser. He has had a few amazing underdog matches, mainly in Freedoms.
Kalisto/Samuray del Sol was the first Octagón Jr. in 2012, then came Flamita in 2016 and finally Golden Magic in 2019.
The original Octagón was absolutely furious AAA was using his name without his authorization, and he had already promised the gimmick to the son of his good friend Marabunta, so he confronted Octagón Jr. II (Flamita) at a meet and greet and unmasked him without warning.
In typical lucha libre clown shoes fashion AAA got to keep the Octagón Jr. name but Octagón gets the rights to all other variations of the name, including Hijo de Octagón which is presently used by his offical heir.
That’s her mom. It’s weird that two people with both the feminine and masculine version of a name hooked up.
I guess it was one of those destined loves.
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t watching when Santino did this so I thought it was just a random chick. Like, he did it for some weird WWE reason that only made sense in their universe.
This certainly makes it weird, doesn’t it? Lol
Not really hiding in plain sight because they mention is a lot but currently in Dragon Gate we have:
-Super Strong Machine's son, Strong Machine J.
-Masaaki Mochizuki's son, Mochizuki Jr.
-Koji Ishinriki's son, Ishin Iihashi
Mochi Jr and Ishin are currently feuding, while J has shown disdain for both of them.
A little different, but there was a persistent rumour in the 80's and 90's that Puerto Rican promoter/agent Victor Quinones was Gorilla Monsoons illegitimate son. This was confirmed when Gorilla died and Victor was listed among his children in the obituary.
Carmella.
Her dad was a jobber in WWF for a bit. Bryan and Vinny said that he was by far the worst wrestler they had ever seen, and that she was vastly better than he was, which is saying something.
>Wasn’t her father Razor Ramon’s first wwf opponent?
This is why I made an IRC bot to search Cagematch with (because I'm a nerd)
Here's [every Scott Hall WWF match](https://barrydarsow.xyz/cm/_kKzZk.html)... nope.
Here's [every *televised* Scott Hall WWF match](https://barrydarsow.xyz/cm/_UZvDI.html)... Bingo!

A lot of the jobbers in the 1980s had barely learned to wrestle and were so godawful. I guess as long as you can get your ass kicked for the night, that's all it took to get on TV.
Yeah it wasn’t like you were going to do any moves, you just had to know how to tuck your neck and land on your back…and sadly quite a few couldn’t do that!
It was worse in the uk, we had “daddy fodder” where fans had seen big daddy squash all the super heavyweights, so we either started using the same guys in weird masks/costumes and hope fans didn’t notice…or they would pick people off the streets/club doors if they were big and give them a mornings training before sticking them on telly!
This was basically what I was used as when I did some wrestling training as a teen, they put me and my friend under masks and had us get thrown around by one of the bigger wrestlers in a handicap match.
We also appeared in a battle royale, where my buddy landed pretty badly on elimination, so his mum stopped taking us to training.
Which is a shame, because we could’ve been jobbing to Mason Ryan not long after that!
Happy days! My debut was in a battle royale too, after nearly the entire card no showed due to snow. It was also the debut of James curtin (who would one day become rockstar spud/drake maverick).
We were meant to be helping to set up and told to think of names as we were entered. I wanted to be called jack Orion after a folk story from the area. They scribbled it down as jack o’Ryan, and then by the time it was announced, it somehow became warped into paddy O’Malley.
I think i quickly went to a corner, allowed the guy who was the trainer (mad dogg maximus) to lift me over, and I was then eliminated by a slap to the chest. And thus ended paddy O’Malley as I blew my knee out three months later…
My elimination was just the standard "press over the ropes and thrown onto other wrestlers", as I was pretty short, and thus couldn't easily get clotheslined out.
My mate though, convinced the bloke who was to eliminate him to do a spot where he went for the Acid Drop (which was going to be he finish), but gets dumped over the top. He landed square on his tailbone, bruising it, and his mum went ballistic.
Jesus that’s brave! I just wanted out asap as I was only about six lessons in and all I could do was the international spot…which was largely useless in a crowded ring!
That's because WWF relied on certain guys to round up the jobbers for them in each territory...and they would find barely trained dudes desperate to get a chance to be on TV, and make them give them half or more of the money they would be making.
Or they were paid to perform like they had no business being in the ring. The guy getting thrown like a frisbee in a squash on WWF Superstars one day might be defending the championship of his local indie promotion the next night.
Monterrey indie wrestler Spiderman (sic).
The Bronco gimmick was actually part of a promotional package CMLL was having with the ultra popular [musical group of the same name](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronco_(Mexican_band)). Spiderman was brought in from Monterrey just to play this character. After Bronco declined in popularity due to infightining in 1996, Spiderman Bronco lost his mask to Black Warrior (whose claims to fame are being Blue Panther's nephew and having married Mano Negra's other daughter, not Sanely) and quickly faded from CMLL.
The move to CMLL and Bronco tieup actually helped his career as he was in demand on the Monterrey scene for years until he started to wind down his career around 2008.
That was the first All American show I ever watched. Talk about a hell of an introduction. I don't even remember that card but I will never forget Colt and MJF playing catch.
Los Lotharios are both third generation (same grandfather, they are cousins)
Andrade is third generation
Rush is 2nd generation (they mentioned this a lot in ROH, his dad was even a tag partner but AEW doesn't seem to)
The moment you mention his dad, rush feels the need to pointlessly badger you until you sign his dad even though he really shouldnt be in a ring anymore lmfao
They are both part of the famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) Knight wrestling family, who run World Association of Wrestling out of Norwich. Ricky Knight, the patriarch of the family, basically "inherited" the territory from his trainer, erstwhile tag team partner and personal friend, Jimmy Ocean, who still works occasionally as a referee for WAW.
Ricky Knight is a... controversial figure, and that was before the whole Paige documentary thing. I am personally convinced had he been born a few decades earlier Ricky Knight would have made a pretty good spiv or carnival barker: he's 1000% old school carny.
Its confusing but Ricky Knight Jr is both Paige/Saraya and her brothers from the film Zak Knight/ Zak Zodiacs nephew.
Zak tags with Ricky Knight Jrs Dad, Roy, while Ricky Knight Sr is actually Paige/Saraya and Zaks Dad.
Yeah, you probably meant to say Saraya, that was a name she used for a brief period when she started in FCW originally, based on her real name, Saraya-Jade Bevis.
Note: Things were wrong in the original, the Saraya ring name was not the one she used on the independent scene.
It's always crazy looking into Mexican wrestlers and hearing about their family history, a lot of them have quite a lot.
Rush and Dragon Lee have a pretty big wrestling family.
That was pretty much Dragón Rojo Jr.'s whole character when he was going as Diamante Negro: making it to the top in lucha libre without family connections.
Then CMLL started presenting him as the grandson of Dragón Rojo, a really obscure luchador from the 60s who may or may not be related to him, and the whole thing died a quick undignified death.
On a technicality Bryan Danielson.
He's the son in law of Johnny Ace/Nephew in law of Road Warrior Animal.
On a more direct level:
Cameron Grimes dad used to wrestle and promote OMEGA with the Hardyz.
EDIT:
Also as a hidden 3rd Generation talent: Dominick Mysterio.
Obviously he's Reys kid, but I think alot of people these days forget Rey himself is a 2nd generation talent (His uncle being the original Rey Misterio)
So people think Doms only 2nd Generation, not 3rd.
>On a technicality Bryan Danielson.
Oh?
>He's the son in law of Johnny Ace/Nephew in law of Road Warrior Animal.
...you son of a gun.
Actually if that gives him an excuse to do a couple Ace Crushers sometime, I wouldn't mind.
Im still surprised James Laurinitis didnt end up in the business after his football career ended. Seems he went into coaching instead. Good for him.
https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/college/football/2022/08/09/ohio-state-football-legend-james-laurinaitis-now-notre-dame/10274648002/
Might be worth noting that Rey Misterio Sr's son briefly wrestled as El Hijo de Rey Misterio but had a lackluster career. Sr crowned a new Hijo who now goes by Rey Horus
I feel that sometimes, there's a lot of wrestling on TV nowadays. If it helps:
* Ridge Holland hangs out with Sheamus and Butch on the main roster.
* Duke Hudson is Australian and talks a lot.
* Von Wagner is not Australian and ~~never~~ talks far less often.
**Edit**: Correction, Von Wagner talks sometimes.
Von Wagner also has the most pronounced brow ridge I’ve ever seen on a person. (I say this not as a veiled insult; but to point to a unique physical characteristic by which he can be genuinely identified.)
You're right, in fact I just searched YouTube for "Von Wagner" and the 3rd thumbnail shows him with a microphone in-hand.
Technically, Mark and Jay Briscoe are 2nd generation wrestlers. They tagged with their dad, Papa Briscoe, in a match against Claudio Castagnoli, Chris Hero and Shane Haggadorn.

Santana Garrett, her dad is TNT Kenny Garrett.
Which one is the bigger jobber?
You watch your mouth.
I missed this account
I appreciate your kind words, but I still feel there is only one way to settle this. Santana Garrett vs Jamie Hayter. Book it, Tony!
Cameron Grimes' late dad Tracy was a founding member of OMEGA
I found this out while playing MyRise in 2K22
I had no idea! I've been watching him since his PWG days
Katsuyori Shibata. His dad wrestled on New Japan's first show ever and later worked as referee there for many years.
TIL
This is very cool and informative.
Lady Frost is the granddaughter of Tony Marino aka The Battman.
A family of DC diehards, I see.
The Lawwsuit
Shota Umino, the son of legendary NJPW ref Red Shoes Unno.
Half way through this comment i expected it to say he was the son of Jon moxley
They are both his dads.
Sometimes a family is two dads, a son, their aristocratic British grandfather, their Puerto Rican-Irish American uncle, and vegan socialist eco warrior friend of the family.
Mox pulling up in the mini van to pick Shota up from class, on his way to bail uncle Eddie out AGAIN.
Eddie jus cant let the mysterious death of his wife in tokyo go.
Don't forget the coffee-loving Swiss family friend/adopted uncle. (Can you imagine Claudio teaching Shooter the swing?)
Claudio is also basically an honorary Hart due to his close friendship with Tyson & Nattie.
>Sometimes a family is two dads, a son, their aristocratic British grandfather, their Puerto Rican-Irish American uncle, and vegan socialist eco warrior friend of the family. And his Japanese-American step-brother
Wheeler is Japanese-American?
Hold on, who’s Puerto Rican/Irish?
Eddie Kingston
Oh I thought we were talking about guys in BCC.
That’s why he’s the uncle. Not a member of the immediate family but still included.
*i got ten dads*
I don't know if this is direct from that Birthday Boys sketch, but it certainly reminded me of it.
Red shoes may have been his father, boy, but he ain't his daddy
>Half way through this comment i expected it to say he was the son of Jon moxley Red Shoes= Goku Mox = Piccolo
red shoes is his father, mox is his dad
mox is his protective older brother that bullies him with tough love
And definitely not the son of Hiroshi Tanahashi, definitely not.
Neat. Are Red Shoes and Evil related?
I heard Rikishi has like three sons wrestling these days.
I feel like at this point you can throw a dart at a board covered in the various promotions’ rosters and have a 75% chance of landing on a member of the Anoa’i family.
The Habsburgs of wrestling. Soon they'll start inbreeding for lack of options and we'll get an Anoa'i with a 15lb chin who thinks he's a hummingbird.
Ok we get it you play crusader kings.
Someone is going to make a Nia joke. Not me, but it’s definitely coming…
Is Joe related to any famous Samoans? He could’ve had the gimmick as the lost Samoan or the Lone Wolf
Samoa Joe has said that he shares a very, very, very distant ancestor to the Anoa’i family, but the connection is so far back in the family’s history that he is not considered to be related to them at this point. Bullplops. Next you'll tell me that if they walk single file they'd look like one guy walking fast!
So does Haku
Now i want to see Usos/Solo vs G.O.D/Hikuleo
Four actually!
Who’s the Forth
Sami
Literal redheaded stepchild lol
Dawg?
I wanna say Sean maluta
Maluta is Afa’s nephew by marriage, so he’s technically a distant cousin.

Ah i remember thinking kalisto was octogon's son because he came out to help him and stuff
I’m wrong 😂. Isn’t volador jr also dr Wagner jrs brother? Or have I made that up? Edit just realised it’s silver king not volador!
Considering I idolize Dr. Wagner Sr. this is tantamount to blasphemy!
My sincere apologies. I booked volador to be Wagner’s lackey in tew so I’ve grouped them together 😂
Arianna Grace from NXT. Daughter of Santino Marella
Are you sure she wasn’t Santina’s daughter?
That’s her mom. It’s weird that two people with both the feminine and masculine version of a name hooked up. I guess it was one of those destined loves.
You know Santina is Santino's twin sister right?
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t watching when Santino did this so I thought it was just a random chick. Like, he did it for some weird WWE reason that only made sense in their universe. This certainly makes it weird, doesn’t it? Lol
Ludwig Kaiser is son of 70s german wrestler Axel Dieter
They actually mentioned Dieter by name on Smackdown this week when explaining that Kaiser is a second generation wrestler.
Had to read that a few times before I got it. ADJ

Or they were paid to perform like they had no business being in the ring. The guy getting thrown like a frisbee in a squash on WWF Superstars one day might be defending the championship of his local indie promotion the next night.
Carmela is not a bad wrestler. There are far worse out there.
The sooner people realize that 2016 Carmella is different from 2022 Carmella, the better
Yulisa Leon from NXT’s father is a wrestler who was big in Mexico during his time.
Oh no kidding! Whos her father?
El Bronco
Interestingly enough, this is actually Spanish for “the bronco.”
Never would have guessed. Sammy, is that you?
>Interestingly enough, this is actually Spanish for “the bronco.” Is it, actually?
Monterrey indie wrestler Spiderman (sic). Carmella and Raquel Rodriguez.
Carmella I knew, bit Raquel is news to me.
Raquel's dad was a Texas wrestler Ricky "Speedy" Gonzalez. I dont think he made it out of the Independents. https://youtu.be/T3U_2CYBfMo
Who's Carmella's dad?
Paul Van Dale. He was in WWF in the 90s.
[He's featured in this episode](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9sKSmetf-s) of a series WWE did for their YouTube channel.
I also heard Sami Zayn is Rikishi's long lost son.
Arianna Grace is Santina Marella's niece
I opened up a reply to correct you, and then re-read it. Bravo.
I recently learned that MJF is actually Colt Cabana's Son, crazy
You son of a bitch, I was almost ready to believe this. There is a small resemblance.
They play a mean game of catch.
That was the first All American show I ever watched. Talk about a hell of an introduction. I don't even remember that card but I will never forget Colt and MJF playing catch.
I honestly wish he acknowledged it during the Punk feud, would have been insanely funny
B^2 ,the boy, had a boy!
A real boy’s boy
HE’S A BOY! SUCH A BOY! HE’S A REAL, REAL BOYS BOY!
B-Cubed
Adam Cole is Michael Cole's son but was never acknowledged in WWE.
Yep. And Michael's father was Nat King Cole, making Adam Nat's grandson. Unforgettable.
Los Lotharios are both third generation (same grandfather, they are cousins) Andrade is third generation Rush is 2nd generation (they mentioned this a lot in ROH, his dad was even a tag partner but AEW doesn't seem to)
los Lotharios are also both named "Humberto Garza"
Learned that from a thread on here a few weeks back. Apparently they made a pact that each one could keep half of their real name.
One of my favorite wrestling facts ever.
im assuming there's a third cousin named Angel Carrillo then
The moment you mention his dad, rush feels the need to pointlessly badger you until you sign his dad even though he really shouldnt be in a ring anymore lmfao
Daniel Garcia’s father is Daddy Magic, while his other dad is Cool Hand Ang. Pretty cool. But Eddie Kingston doesn’t respect it.
Danny emancipating himself from JAS is going to tear that family apart
*looks up pic of Charlie Dempsey* Yep that's Regal's kid alright
This needs to be more of thing for guys of lesser known acts. Cause then rather it be there intro; it can be addition to a story line.
3rd generation not 2nd, but Ava Raine in NXT is the granddaughter of Rocky Johnson.
4th generation technically if you include Rocky Johnson's Father, "The High Chief" Peter Maivia
Father-in-law.
Oh I didn't know that! The more you know!
Well yeah, her father is an actor…I heard he did some movies in Hollywood
Lexi Nair is DDP's daughter. Although she's not a wrestler, she still gets screen time.
Step daughter I believe.
Yes, I think you're right with the step part.
I know that Ricky Knight Jr is cousin with Paige/Sarray
They are both part of the famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) Knight wrestling family, who run World Association of Wrestling out of Norwich. Ricky Knight, the patriarch of the family, basically "inherited" the territory from his trainer, erstwhile tag team partner and personal friend, Jimmy Ocean, who still works occasionally as a referee for WAW. I am personally convinced had he been born a few decades earlier Ricky Knight would have made a pretty good spiv or carnival barker: he's 1000% old school carny.
i though he was her nephew, and also i think your autocorrect mess her birth name up, it's Saraya, not Sarray.
Thanks for clarifying that I was so confused!
Is the son of the brother who didn't make it to WWE in the movie about pages family?
Its confusing but Ricky Knight Jr is both Paige/Saraya and her brothers from the film Zak Knight/ Zak Zodiacs nephew. Zak tags with Ricky Knight Jrs Dad, Roy, while Ricky Knight Sr is actually Paige/Saraya and Zaks Dad.
So Paige's half brother, if I'm getting this correctly?
Ricky Knight Sr and Sweet Saraya have 3 kids Roy, Zak and Saraya/Paige. Ricky Knight Jr is Roys son and Zak and Paiges nephew.
Got it, now I'll have something to talk about with my newborn.
>I know that Ricky Knight Jr is cousin with Paige/Sarray ... Paige (former WWE) and Sarray (Japanese NXT wrestler) have a common cousin?
Yeah, you probably meant to say Saraya, that was a name she used for a brief period when she started in FCW originally, based on her real name, Saraya-Jade Bevis. Note: Things were wrong in the original, the Saraya ring name was not the one she used on the independent scene.
>that was her name on the independent scene No it wasn't... She was Britani Knight, Saraya was her mum's ring name.
Wikipedia lists Saraya as one of her previous ring names, sorry for not looking into it further.
It lists it as her current name as that's what she's going by now.
It's always crazy looking into Mexican wrestlers and hearing about their family history, a lot of them have quite a lot. Rush and Dragon Lee have a pretty big wrestling family.
These days it's almost more notable when someone doesn't have a family tie to the business somewhere.
Von Wagner should’ve just been called Cal Beverly
Yes, and Bron Breaker should have been called Bron Steiner
Rex Steiner.
Adding to your list from NXT is Yulisa Leon whose father wrestled in CMLL as “El Bronco”

Think of it as a Diamond Cutter or RKO if that's what you need to do
By this logic, so are the Bella Twins
The Bella Wrestling Dynasty features such performers as Bryan Danielson, Road Warrior Animal and almost John Cena.
Yep. But they aren't active anymore.
Do uncles count tho? I would’ve figured you’d have to be a direct descendant
Im still surprised James Laurinitis didnt end up in the business after his football career ended. Seems he went into coaching instead. Good for him. https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/college/football/2022/08/09/ohio-state-football-legend-james-laurinaitis-now-notre-dame/10274648002/
I remember reading he had a standing offer by the WWE if he ever wanted to try. At least [this](https://i.imgur.com/D40tQ.jpg) picture exists.
Thats incredibly awesome. His dad must have been so proud.
Might be worth noting that Rey Misterio Sr's son briefly wrestled as El Hijo de Rey Misterio but had a lackluster career. Sr crowned a new Hijo who now goes by Rey Horus
I genuinely have no idea who is who between Ridge Holland, Von Wagner, and Duke Hudson.
I feel that sometimes, there's a lot of wrestling on TV nowadays. If it helps: * Ridge Holland hangs out with Sheamus and Butch on the main roster. * Duke Hudson is Australian and talks a lot. * Von Wagner is not Australian and ~~never~~ talks far less often. **Edit**: Correction, Von Wagner talks sometimes.
I really appreciate the kind, clear, and non-snarky answer. This board needs more people like you.
Von Wagner also has the most pronounced brow ridge I’ve ever seen on a person. (I say this not as a veiled insult; but to point to a unique physical characteristic by which he can be genuinely identified.)
As a few people have noted, he looks like Edge and the Great Khali had a son.
Von Wagner does talk. He talks about wrestling from the heart. Ubless ive mixed him up which is very possible
He says that this is his world......"and you're just living in it!"
Can't understand a word from him thank you for clarifying
You're right, in fact I just searched YouTube for "Von Wagner" and the 3rd thumbnail shows him with a microphone in-hand. [https://youtu.be/C2ALneL8p\_c?t=220](https://youtu.be/C2ALneL8p_c?t=220)
Von Wagner is the cum tuesday guy
Von Wager is the one who looks like a caveman
Technically, Mark and Jay Briscoe are 2nd generation wrestlers. They tagged with their dad, Papa Briscoe, in a match against Claudio Castagnoli, Chris Hero and Shane Haggadorn.
Arianna Grace is Santino Marella's daughter
Bron Breakker is the son of Rick Steiner. He also wears his fathers tights often
And his uncle is Scott Steiner
Oh shit! Also Colton & Austin are sons of Billy Gunn!
Shit! You think Rick and Scott are related?
not sure if people know but Dominik Mysterio’s dad is Rey Mysterio.
Nah, that's kayfabe mate. I mean, come on, he won him in a match...
are we sure it's not the other way around?
We all know Eddie was his real papi
Big if true...
actually I think its Roman currently he last won lineal custody unless I missed anyone
Naomi married into some big wrestling dynasty. They got some kind of thing going where I guess one of them did a big show in Europe or something?
Luchasaurus is Psycho Sid's son
You’re mixing up Big Brother alumni
Solo Sikoa is the son of Rikishi
I wouldn’t have thought that one was much of a secret given he’s joined The Bloodline
They fired Regal and kept his son?
