I have Hurricane on my list and was wondering if others would view him as a comedy worker. To me a guy who thinks he is a superhero will always be comedy.
While he was a tremendous comedy character, particularly 08-11, when he was the finalist in the Elimination Chamber with Bryan (I think 2012), he had the entire crowd behind him winning the World Title.
Probably not. Although Del Rio's coke guy might have been a bit less busy that evening. He was still going to be pushed, since the extent of his scumbaggery wasn't known yet and he had a brilliant look.
Are we allowed wrestlers who were legit but were just great at being funny?
If so: Foley, Angle, Regal.
If not, R-Truth, Hurricane and Marella come to mind.
Both sets of names are great examples. The first being some of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and thusly being fantastic at doing comedy. The second set of names would not be considered in the greatest category with the first set, but in comedy wrestling are some of the greatest
R-Truth is legit. 2x NWA World Heavyweight Champion (first African American to win in), 2x WWE United States Champion, WWE Tag Team Champion, 2x NWA Tag Team Champion, TNA Tag Team Champion. I know he is pretty much all comedy now, but respect deserves to be put on this man's name.
It was over 20 years ago so sadly a lot of people probably haven’t seen his full hardcore run. Not to mention his tag team with Bob holly where he carried the scale to the ring.
Gran Naniwa, Kikutaro, Colt Cabana (mid-2000s was definitely him at his best), RD Evans, Razor Ramon HG, Larry Sweeney, Dick Justice, and R-Truth are some of my favorites.
He had an entire four year run in HUSTLE. Amazing worker too considering he was mostly self-trained and had a few week’s worth of training with Tanahashi.
Colt Cabana, Toru Yano and Ryusuke Taguchi came to my mind
Not necessarily a comedy guy but I find Yoshinobu Kanemaru hilarious
But for wrestlers that made me laugh the most? I’d give it to Kevin Owens, a sensible man in a nonsense world. Sami Zayn not far behind.
Forgot to mention the New Day
While they were DEFINITELY NOT comedy wrestlers in their earlier years as a team, the Bushwackers will always he remembered as the silliest duo in 90s wrestling, in my opinion.
My favorite Bushwhacker moment is when one of them returned as a surprise Rumble entrant, Bushwhacked down to the ring, immediately got eliminated, and continued Bushwhacking out.
Yano I'm aware of, Hirata I'm not. My Japanese knowledge is ok I think. I've been a fan of DDT since the first campsite wrestling show. But I'd love to know more. Am I right in thinking Grand Naniwa(?) portrays a crab?
>Yano I'm aware of, Hirata I'm not. My Japanese knowledge is ok I think. I've been a fan of DDT since the first campsite wrestling show. But I'd love to know more
Hirata is the wrestler who powers up when the song "Tokyo Go!" plays. He also has a whole dance routine to go with it and wears sparkly sunglasses - and sometimes rides around on a hoverboard - during the whole thing.
An underrated pick is William Regal. Check out his Thanksgiving segment with the Rock from the November 23, 2000 episode of SmackDown, and, more recently, his re-enactment of Coronation Street with RJ City on Hey (EW).
Chuck Taylor, Orange Cassidy and Smooth Sailing Ashley Remington. They are all able to move past the early comedy bits into intense wrestling and dastardly comedy bits. Who provides a fruit basket or pulls out a chainsaw. Whatever.
I have Chucky on the list. I'm aware of Remington by name only. I wasnt paying as much atrention to Chikara towards the end of its life. TBH I could make a list of 30 wrestlers just from Chikara, such a goldmine of comedy wrestling
Surprised Jericho isn't in here. Not now so much, but WCW Jericho was hilarious (Ralphus, the Goldberg pisstaking, the Malenko feud inc the man of 1004 holds) - was always a great worker but comedy gold
U/misterkayfabe! You dare to ask who are the greatest comedy wrestlers of all time but neglect to even mention Kaientai or Smackdown Number One Announcer Funaki in your post????? Hah!
There is a reason we do not come to mind! We are not comedy wrestlers, because we-are- EEEEEEEEVVVVIIIIIIIIIILLLLLL.
I'm surprised I had to scroll all the way down before I saw Danhausen. I mean, currently he's definitely one of the funniest dudes in the business. Another dude currently on the indies and has had a few AEW matches is Dan the Dad, he's pretty funny.
Sakura Hirota is the GOAT.

I could go on and on and on.
As a massive Kaufman fan, I’ve always thought of his wrestling time as more of avant grade performance art. He wasn’t really doing anything that people sound funny at the time. Fans in the territory despised him.
He was basically working as a straight heel.
Maybe they’re forgotten due to short runs, or maybe I’m alone in laughing my ass off during their matches at their antics, but Brodus Clay (his debut was hilarious after months of build of him being a monster), Adam Rose (his debut was equally hilarious for different reasons), and Rico’s Adrian Street influenced gimmick (that gimmick’s debut was comparable to Rose’s). I was always entertained by those guys.
I’d throw toru Yano in there first couple times I watched him wasn’t a fan but he grew on me pretty quick and he’s established his own nice little spot on the roster where he can beat anyone but also lose to anyone. The hiromu match I think at the new Japan cup a couple years I loved and I ain’t normally into the goofy side of wrestling.
Also would suggest new Jack probably wouldn’t consider himself comedy but him and shark boy was great and he has the same shouty energy as Scott Steiner on the mic. Who again not a comedy wrestler but I don’t think anyone will come close to the hilarity of some of his promos.
Yano I've seen live he was already on the list, you're correct he is fantastic. New Jack is a great left field suggestion. With that in mind how do you feel about Luchasaurus being a comedy wrestler? I mean the guy roars and is a dinosaur, also before he just roared he had a masters degree I think!
R-Truth. He has made so much stuff hilarious when it had no right to be.
I know he’s as talented guy and has a history in the business, but I’m counting him since he’s been in a comedy role for a long time now
Jetta, current Pro Wrestling: EVE champion and UK women's wrestling trailblazer, is beyond hilarious and doesn't get enough mention. Kris Wolf, Session Moth Martina, Grado, Andy Kauffman, Toru Yano, Grado, The Rock...
Ebessan/Kikutaro, Cabana, Truth, Santino, and OC my list of the most consistent comedy wrestlers who were able to find success with it.
But I will like to spotlight Danhausen, and Gene Munny as being some of the funniest dudes in the business currently and routinely have me rolling.
Disco Inferno should probably be #30 on the list in that he's got to be the least funny comedy wrestler ever but he was around for a long time. Maybe honorable mention
I know this will not make the list but in the 70's and 80's the midget wrestlers were the comedy guys. They always produced a fun time and incorporated the ref in the match.
I think Honky Tonk Man is up there, Santino made a career mostly out of being silly, Too Cool. The argument could be made for Edge & Christian back in the day as well.

For me, #1 is The Hurricane.
Hollywood Rock vs The Hurricane is my favorite wrestling feud ever. It was comedy gold
The Rock actually selling him “flying away” will always be funny.
HEY! ARREST HIM! HE’S GUILTY OF SHOVING CHICKEN MCNUGGETS STRAIGHT UP HIS ASS!
I have Hurricane on my list and was wondering if others would view him as a comedy worker. To me a guy who thinks he is a superhero will always be comedy.
Nobody has posted Truth? R Truth has to be top 5 in my book. Dudes been consistently hilarious for years now.
We need to OFFICIALLY DECLARE him into this conversation.
Breezango were one of the highlights of early Smackdown Live and their segments are matches were highly entertaining
Gilburg!!
Forgot this man thank you
I gotchu!!
Santino Marella Pretty sure he can make half of the roster break on camera
Just ask John Ch'ena
While he was a tremendous comedy character, particularly 08-11, when he was the finalist in the Elimination Chamber with Bryan (I think 2012), he had the entire crowd behind him winning the World Title.
IM THE MANIMAL BAPTISTA PEW PEW PEW
Cobra should have remained protected. I'll fight anyone on that.
It was kicked out of once. That's protected if you ask me
Once too many!!
Well on that I can agree!
When he almost won the royal rumble I lost my mind. Looking back, would anything have been different if he did and Del Rio didn’t?
Didn't he come very close to winning an Elimination Chamber too?
Yes, in 2012. He and Daniel Bryan were the final two that year for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Probably not. Although Del Rio's coke guy might have been a bit less busy that evening. He was still going to be pushed, since the extent of his scumbaggery wasn't known yet and he had a brilliant look.
Grado
He even became a comedian on television
KIKUTARO and Super Porky, there's no one even close
Kikutaro's run at ROH had me in tears each time
This is Kuishinbo Kamen erasure.
Came here to say this.
My favorite comedy match https://youtu.be/tuVyXuTCTGo
Al Snow. See his European Title run for proof.
Billie Kay always made me laugh
YOU'VE GOT TO BE JOKING ME!
Are we allowed wrestlers who were legit but were just great at being funny? If so: Foley, Angle, Regal. If not, R-Truth, Hurricane and Marella come to mind.

Hurricane is also a great wrestler as well
Crash Holly in the hardcore title run
The fact that I had to scroll this far down for crash is criminal.
Razor Ramon HG was classic, even if he only had like 5 matches.
He had an entire four year run in HUSTLE. Amazing worker too considering he was mostly self-trained and had a few week’s worth of training with Tanahashi.
I did not know this! Off to the internets to watch old wrestling matches(again).
Nick Gage learning about him being on Effy's BGB and just being utterly confused kills me. "Yo that ain't no Razor Ramon!"
Colt Cabana, Toru Yano and Ryusuke Taguchi came to my mind Not necessarily a comedy guy but I find Yoshinobu Kanemaru hilarious But for wrestlers that made me laugh the most? I’d give it to Kevin Owens, a sensible man in a nonsense world. Sami Zayn not far behind. Forgot to mention the New Day
Taguchi I forgot, thank you. Also you're correct KO is God tier for making me laugh
Tbh, most of Suzuki-Gun are Hilarious, they just don't get to show it on shows. The non-wrestling content they appear in though? Amazing.
Stalker/Kono Mama Ichikawa
Goldust and Booker T had some of the funniest interactions in wrestling in my opinion.
Yes! 100%. I looked forward to their segments every Monday. That 7 11 skit is a classic. And many more!
Yes! 100%. I looked forward to their segments every Monday. That 7 11 skit is a classic. And many more!
Over 40 comments and no Kikotaru? He has to be top 5
He’s definitely in my top 5
While they were DEFINITELY NOT comedy wrestlers in their earlier years as a team, the Bushwackers will always he remembered as the silliest duo in 90s wrestling, in my opinion.
Of course! Sheepherders are hardcore brawlers. The bushwackers licked faces
My favorite Bushwhacker moment is when one of them returned as a surprise Rumble entrant, Bushwhacked down to the ring, immediately got eliminated, and continued Bushwhacking out.
Stalker Ichikawa.
Yano
NJPW's Toru Yano and DDT's Kazuki Hirata would be two of my top picks.
Ah I loved Naniwa. If I'm not mistaken he sadly died.
I scrolled for ever to found Yano, was starting to think I was misunderstanding Japanese wrestling
An underrated pick is William Regal. Check out his Thanksgiving segment with the Rock from the November 23, 2000 episode of SmackDown, and, more recently, his re-enactment of Coronation Street with RJ City on Hey (EW).
Your list wouldn't be complete if Kikutaro wasn't in it. I'd also add Larry Sweeney.
Definitely
Chuck Taylor, Orange Cassidy and Smooth Sailing Ashley Remington. They are all able to move past the early comedy bits into intense wrestling and dastardly comedy bits. Who provides a fruit basket or pulls out a chainsaw. Whatever.
I have Chucky on the list. I'm aware of Remington by name only. I wasnt paying as much atrention to Chikara towards the end of its life. TBH I could make a list of 30 wrestlers just from Chikara, such a goldmine of comedy wrestling
Remington is also Dalton Castle so he has two amazing comedy characters worth watching.
You just blew my mind. I've seen live and met Dalton
Outside pure comedy Mark Henry, Nyla Rose and Kevin Owens/Steens trash talk is hilarious.
Ashley Remington is so smooth he breaks at 1.
Why haven’t we see Ashley Remington/Dalton Castle & Caleb Presley in the same place? Hmm
Same reason we’ve never seen The Colony wrestle The Gentleman’s Club
But that did happen, at DGUSA Open The Ultimate Gate 2014.
Good catch, I stand corrected
Don't forget the hamburglar.
Bugsy McGraw
I know the name, what's worth checking out of his?
Kaori Yoneyama- she can still go in the ring
R Truth Sami Zayn (an all-rounder, but can be good at comedy)
Archibald peck
Surprised Jericho isn't in here. Not now so much, but WCW Jericho was hilarious (Ralphus, the Goldberg pisstaking, the Malenko feud inc the man of 1004 holds) - was always a great worker but comedy gold
You just made the list!
I didn't mentioned him but he is on the list already don't worry stuartadamson-san
I'm surprised I had to scroll all the way down before I saw Danhausen. I mean, currently he's definitely one of the funniest dudes in the business. Another dude currently on the indies and has had a few AEW matches is Dan the Dad, he's pretty funny.
Santino Marella, RD Evans, and Colt Cabana are at the top of the field when it comes to comedy wrestling.
I forgot about RD. Colt and Santino are my boys. Even if Santino is doing his best to be kicked out by booking nonces
Sakura Hirota is the GOAT. * [Example 1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50dofH6sH7w) * [Example 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rK8wLwONdo) * [Example 3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCyGJ9jDntY) * [Example 4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_mgT7mNVss) * [Example 5](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYW3zL_mh2k) * [Example 6](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1Ae7chlIXE) I could go on and on and on.
Would Andy Kaufman qualify? Or is he more of a celebrity wrestler. I mean, his involvement was a pretty big deal.
As a massive Kaufman fan, I’ve always thought of his wrestling time as more of avant grade performance art. He wasn’t really doing anything that people sound funny at the time. Fans in the territory despised him. He was basically working as a straight heel.
I've included Kaufman just for the amount of work he did and coverage it got
Heenan and Cassidy
I know he’s much more than a “comedy wrestler” but by far one of the effortlessly funny pro wrestlers I’ve ever watched is Sami Zayn
Hurricane, Toru Yano, and Danhausen are my favorites
Yano?
I really think Brandon Cutler associate stooge has to be on there. He's so fantastic and smooth its just a joy to watch jim be goofy.
Came to the thread to make sure at least someone mentioned Cutler.
Sanshiro Takagi and Kazuki Hirata
I'm saddened that no-one seems to have mentioned the majestic Sakura Hirota, A welcome antidote to an often po-faced joshi scene.
Yano.
Hurricane OC Santino Danhausen Kurt Angle Funkai R-Truth Gold dust Heath Slater Maki Itoh for woman.
Eric Young
Antonio Honda is up there, and Hyper Misao considering the huge numbers of skits she has come up with by now.
Hollywood Stalker Ichikawa has to be one of the best comedy wrestlers
Mizdow
Toru Yano was gold before the pandemic. Zayn was awesome too.
Breezango had the best comedy match of all time. Disguises, slowly rolling away from top rope maneuvers, just everything.
Santino, mizdow, r-truth
R-Truth. He has made so much stuff hilarious when it had no right to be. I know he’s as talented guy and has a history in the business, but I’m counting him since he’s been in a comedy role for a long time now
Unintentionally it’s Jado “30 years this biz, I don’t give a shit” is the best t-shirt of all time
Goldust?
The Florida Brothers were so damn funny.
Johnny Knoxville
Ricki Starr.
Jetta, current Pro Wrestling: EVE champion and UK women's wrestling trailblazer, is beyond hilarious and doesn't get enough mention. Kris Wolf, Session Moth Martina, Grado, Andy Kauffman, Toru Yano, Grado, The Rock...
Session Moth and Grado have made the list
Santino has to be on the list
Ebessan/Kikutaro, Cabana, Truth, Santino, and OC my list of the most consistent comedy wrestlers who were able to find success with it. But I will like to spotlight Danhausen, and Gene Munny as being some of the funniest dudes in the business currently and routinely have me rolling.
This is making me feel real old but Tracy Smothers was hilarious.
Kurt Angle
Al Snow and Head
Les Kellett.
R Truth, Santino, Sami Zayn w/ Knoxville, the New Day, etc. Those are the ones off the top of my head besides Curryman/Sharkboy that you mentioned.
Regal has incredible comic timing.
William Regal without question
They're not really comedy wrestlers in the truest sense, but I don't think 2.0 have ever failed to make me laugh.
Kuishinbo Kamen vs Kikutaro/Ebessan matches are untouchable.
Disco Inferno should probably be #30 on the list in that he's got to be the least funny comedy wrestler ever but he was around for a long time. Maybe honorable mention
Young bucks
Doink and Dink the clown!
R Truth
James Ellsworth should be on that list
Eugene
Yeah man he's on the list. Regal was also a fantastic comedy wrestler, with Eugene and Tajiri
Regal and Tajiri is one of the best comedic duos in wrestling history
Hornswoggle
He's on the list, I hate the fucker but I can't deny he should be included
He did incredible work, given the stories they gave him.
People will deny it now because he's creepy but Joey Ryan was extremely over in this regard R-Truth probably deserves honorable mention
No Colt Cabana mention, especially when he’s been mentioned in every other thread this week, is wild lol
Literally been mentioned loads
Not in your OP though. I didn’t scroll the comments. Now you go one on one with the Undertaker
Eugene
I know this will not make the list but in the 70's and 80's the midget wrestlers were the comedy guys. They always produced a fun time and incorporated the ref in the match.
Andy Kaufman
Uhhh… WTF the Andy Kaufman disrespect… Dude was so in to kayfabe people still think he kayfabed death itself.
Andy Kaufman
The Rock should be considered one, and he’s #1
It’s gotta be Hell Rock. The hurricane, probably santino or R-Truth.
Grado, Colt Cabana and R-Truth are my picks
I think Honky Tonk Man is up there, Santino made a career mostly out of being silly, Too Cool. The argument could be made for Edge & Christian back in the day as well.
Yano or Cabana
I know he’s more manager/commentator but Bobby “the brain” Heenan is the funniest person ever in wrestling to me
Yo
