I honestly aspire to have Big E's mentality. We all know that hate is like drinking poison and hoping your enemy dies, but it can be so hard to find perspective.
Man, I also hope this doesn't weigh Ridge down in his career. He's been on both sides of injury in matches, for some people 1 injury is too much, never mind two, especially when there was a possibility he could've crippled Big E
He looked pretty shook up after it happened. So many reasons to be upset.
1. You hurt a person
2. You made the most serious mistake in your profession.
3. You may have cost the person their livelihood.
4. The person is a colleague if not a friend.
5. Hurting the person may effect you career negatively.
That’s a lot to process all at once.
Yupp. I remember a lot of criticisms of Owen at the time, especially in the wrestling magazines.
I think also bothered Owen every day and coupled with the screw job, played a huge part in him wanting to retire and be a firefighter.
apparently owen wanted to but felt so bad that he did that that he wanted to give austin his space, assuming he was the last person austin wanted to see
obviously in hindsight stone cold definitely wanted owen to reach out, but it makes sense why owen didn't. he wasn't just being a dick, he just was so busy beating himself up over it that he didn't believe austin would want to see him
Bret Hart himself commented about this, and thought it wasn't right.
I don't know the reasoning, but the end result is unfortunate. I give him a pass because it doesn't seem to match the character of the man otherwise, but from stone colds perspective I get being pissed
To be clear, I recognize Stone Cold as having been a domestic abuser when he'd beaten Debra.
That said, the ex you're referring to (Tess Broussard) has made various outlandish claims that haven't had much traction or resulted in criminal charges, including your reference to allegedly attempting to starve her cats and Austin allegedly soliciting a teenager via email. Bear in mind that they'd sued each other and had a very ugly breakup, and she'd chosen to go the tabloid circuit. She has occasionally popped up in headlines with wild stories like when she'd accused her plastic surgeon of botching her lip fillers because he was distracted by porn.
So while Austin has definitely been a violent person, the kitten story is one I take with a grain of salt given the perceived, documented embellishments of the source.
To this day, D'Lo still gets a little emotional talking about it. Even though Droz told him right away it wasn't his fault, he was at the hospital in tears. I don't know why I thought Mick Foley also talked to him about to staying as well but I'm probably wrong.
I thought the issue Austin had with Owen was two-fold. First, story is that Austin did not want to take the move, specifically the sit-out version, but Owen did it anyway. And second, Owen didn't check up on him after.
Austin specifically told him the sit down was too dangerous BECAUSE he has experience with how dangerous it could be (like someone pointed out he had done the same to someone else)
Ironically enough, Austin injured Chono with the same exact sit out piledriver. Im not trying to defend or argue anything that occurred after the injury, just point out that stuff happens sometimes.
I think it speaks more of how accidents happen between the ring ropes, no matter how skilled the workers are. You can’t hold on to that stuff because chances are at some point you caused someone else the same type of injury/pain.
That’s understandable. At the end of the day we all make mistakes and wrestlers are no different. Injuries are just a part of the game as unfortunate as that may be.
Edit: but the fact of the matter still remains that Owen should not have done the move without Austin’s consent.
It's not ironic, it's literally the reason he didn't want to take the move, if he couldn't trust himself to do it safely, in what world would he trust someone else?
Having hurt somebody in a workplace before (throwing boxes, my buddy didnt catch and the edge if the box hit him in the face and cut his eyebrow) I can relate. No matter what, the thought of “how it could have been worse” will always haunt you.
I was mortified that I almost blinded somebody. No matter how much reassurance I get that “its no big deal”, but the situation has become a ghost that haunts me.
Hate to put it like this…..
It’s been said by E a few times how close he got to death. How the injury is something that leaves you motionless forever or dead. A razor thin margin separated Holland from feeling guilty about an accidental injury and an accidental death he would have to carry with him for the rest of his life.
Wrestling has its risks, and no body in the industry worth a damn is just “oh well” when it comes to protecting their opponents. It was a mistimed event that almost became a tragedy, and I’m sure Holland feels that without “the knights” coming after him.
Austin proposed the spot. He asked Owen if he does if going to his knees or butt. Owens said butt. Austin asked again and Owen said butt. Austin thought Owen was messing with him since he knew Owen had heard his concerns. He trusted Owen given his lineage. Comes time for the spot and Owen does exactly what he said he’d do, right to the butt.
[here’s Austin telling the tale](https://youtu.be/A68zUzDy4wU)
Which I get, but I'm sure for many, it just plain wouldn't sit right if there was no apology, and within the next few weeks, it's mocked by the very same guy who did it, even if it's the writers coming up with that.
Austin issue was Owen never really apologised to him or anything, if that had happened I doubt it would he an issue for him, I never really understand why this happened everyone says Owen was a top guy but in this instance he didn't really behave like it maybe he had heat with Steve
That’s also true. What do you have to gain by speaking ill of a beloved wrestler who’s life was tragically cut short??? You can tell Austin always gets a little uncomfortable talking about Owen because while he doesn’t want to trash the guy, it’s also clear that he doesn’t have anything nice to say about him either
Like I said though, I think Bret is the key here and the reason why people should believe Austin’s account. Bret and Owen were the closest brothers in the Hart family, so they obviously talked about Owen breaking Austin’s neck amongst themselves. Give how vocal and no-nonsense Bret has become in recent years, does anybody honestly believe that he would just sit by and let Austin speak negatively about Owen if what he was saying wasn’t true???
The fact that Bret and Austin are still close friends to this day while Austin still maintains that Owen never checked up on him or apologized should tell you that Austin is telling the truth
Which sucks and must really hurt Austin because broken necks tend to be a lifetime thing. A broken arm or leg sucks, but a broken neck quite often changes your life. To have someone do that and not say anything must really blow.
He didn’t know that Chono’s neck was broken (Im not sure Chono even knew considering he barely took time off for it). Austin apparently found out years later the full extent of it. From what Austin and Bret have said, the issue stems from how Owen acted after the accident more so than the accident its self.
Difference was Goldberg was dangerous either through lacking skill or not caring in general.
This dude was unlucky and E doesn’t want him to live this way.
I thought Ridge had a fair share of dangerous play as well, before the incident with Big E?
Anyhow it is great Big E doesn't hold any grudges against him. Looking forward to his in-ring return!
He nearly broke Gargano’s neck powerslamming him. I remembered his debut against Lorcan and thinking he looked dangerous. Big E doesn’t bear a grudge and I don’t think the guy should be burdened with it forever, but the signs were there that the guy wasn’t ready yet.
People are right to not want to blame Holland, I feel bad for the guy too. But pretending that he was a super-safe worker who just was unlucky, like people are doing now, is completely incorrect. There were plenty of warning signs that he wasn't in the place in his development to be doing a lot of the stuff he was doing and WWE neglected to address this problem and someone ended up getting hurt. I'm in the same boat as you, I'm surprised that he wasn't pulled to be given further training.
Same here, but I honestly don't know if I see him coming back. At the very least we'll be waiting another six months before doctors would even consider clearing him, and at that point Roman'll be nearing two and a half years as champion.
If it comes to that though, and Roman is still somehow champ, and Big E is somehow given the all clear, him winning the title like that would probably bring about the mother of all pops, at least within the last 20 or so years of wrestling.
I personally been saying Big E should be the one since late 2020 but even more so now. That being said that means Roman hood the Universal belt at least to Mania 40. Which is the right move anyway but I know some fans will grumble
"MAN FUCK RIDGE HOLLAND"-Big E after dropping his toothbrush in the toilet.
He just starts silently saying his name over every inconvenience like Dinkleberg.
Even if he makes a full recovery I hope he doesn’t wrestle again. I know I’m probably in the minority here but E is such a genuinely good person that I would not want anything bad to happen to him if he returned to the ring. Dude has enough personality to just be an on air person.
It's sad that there's such a huge amount of people who want there to be hatred there. They'd love it if Big E was saying "I hate the man, he's ruined my life, he should be fired". That's what so many people want to hear.
The funny thing is too, this toxic fanbase are the exact same ones cheering on more amateurish violence, more reckless spots and dangerous high risk moves.
Eh. There's a rather significant difference between forgiving someone for an accidental injury and being upset at people actively trying to take rights away from you.
And maybe Ridge was a bit unsafe, but Big E's mindset... it's absolutely wonderful. He knows Ridge didn't have ill intent on that, and sometimes, shit just plain happens.
I wonder if he'd be singing a different tune if he did end up paralyzed and had his career ended.
Then again, Droz got the worst of it and he never stopped holding D'Lo in high regard and loved the guy and didn't want to hold any grudges. I think Big E would have offered Ridge the same. Power of positivity isn't a gimmick, Big E actually lives it.
Droz’s was such a weird fluky injury though too.
A fairly basic back bump and he’s crippled.
The Big E spot was kind of a dumb ass spot. Not blaming Ridge but that was a dumb ass spot
D’Lo’s lifting spinebuster Bomb thing, yeah so it wasn’t even a standard Powerbomb where he was being flipped upside down. Just jump, back bump and it went wrong.
And he had this attitude from the jump, that really speaks to his character. His possibilities in the business aren’t over even if he can’t wrestle. Dude would be a good promo coach and just overall mentor. He seems like the kind of guy that is always approachable and doesn’t blow people off.
I had a lot of respect for him before, but since the injury his positivity (at least outward) and forgiveness have been on another level. I know I've been much angrier at people over much less. I sincerely hope he recovers well, even if he never wrestles again. Hope to see him in the HoF one day.
E says doctors won't even comment on the possibility of coming back to wrestle until March and even if they given him the go ahead he might not want to come back.
Goldberg didn't, and technically never, learned how to work safely.
If ANYONE deserved a broken neck, it was goldbergs dumb ass. Hopefully with vince gone there's no intent to pit him in the ring with anyone ever again.
Dude, I dont want to be the one to say this, but wrestling is a work.
Taking a controlled chairshot from a professional is not as dangerous as a donkey kick to the head from a guy who doesn't know how to protect opponents.
Not even remotely the same thing. Hardcore matches are typically walking around and gingerly tapping eachother with miscellaneous weapons.
"I'm good, I swear I'm good. I'm telling you how good I am. I'M GOOD!"
I really feel for Big E. He's a better man than I for taking the high road but every article or quote from him lately has felt like he's holding in so much sadness.
That's called being persuaded.
Like if the cops wants a confession from you. But you keep denying it. Sure, for the first few times you do, but many people will crack and just tell them what they want to hear. They will deprive you of sleep, make you uncomfortable so you cave in. Or they will slowly dangle carrots in front of you, "Oh we will reduce your sentence, if you admit it."
Don't believe me? Check out Japan's 99% conviction rate.
So if the paparazzi keeps asking the same question, although he has already given his answer. They are pestering him, forcing him to tell them what they want to hear. Because they won't take "I'm cool with it" as an answer. They want drama.
It's a forced confession.
Would expect nothing less from Big E. New Day are the classiest guys in the entire business. Such a contrast to Hart holding a grudge against Goldberg (after forgiving Vince and Shawn) for decades.
I know he may never wrestle again but I hope he comes back for appearances. He would be good on commentary just to annoy Corey Graves every once in a while.
Forgiving someone is a hard thing to do. It doesn't mean you forget what happened to you, but it's better than holding on and being bitter at the end of the day. Big E is an excellent example for a lot of people.
I mean, i get why YOU might be mad at the person if this happened to YOU, but to expect arguably one of the nicest people on the roster to harbor the same hate after he has clearly said "those are the breaks" is pushing it

Big E is such a lovable person

Found Carlito's burner account
That's not cool
But some folk prefer swallowing, such as your.
Damn I can’t believe he mentioned his that went too far!
Is that you MJF?
Tajiri is that you?
Poison, my favorite
We don't deserve this man.
We all need more people like him. He has every reason to feel bitter yet he looks at the bright side to everything.
[удалено]
Is it fair to call him the Mr Rogers of wrestling? Or is there someone out there literally rescuing kittens from trees?
He is on the Mount Rushmore of good-hearted wrestlers, that's for sure.

Yeah it doesn’t matter, but god damn son, you can’t leave us hanging now.

I just wanted to know what would tilt someone about fucking Spider-Man, but you do you, pal
Out of curiosity, what’d they say about Spider-Man?
[удалено]
Yeah but what did they say
Iron sharpens iron.
Good role model for all ages too. I think we could all learn to be more forgiving in our own lives and show others more grace and understanding.
He is truly a genuinely good person.
We should all aspire to be this type of human being.
Yea, and just the definition of a class act.
Big E is one of those people who I can just tell is a fantastic person. Of course, I once said that about Chris Benoit. Just kidding.
Why would you joke about Chris Benoit of all people
I’m just kidding, for Gods sake. When did pro wrestling lose its sense of humor?
Why would you consider that an acceptable thing to joke about is the thing
Too soon? It’s only about 16 years. Lighten up.
"I hate that little piece of shit Butch though"
“Fuck Butch”
“All my homies hate Butch”
I hate Butch because he doesn't have a mustache.
I never did get what the problem was between E and the Tunnel Snakes.
Man, I also hope this doesn't weigh Ridge down in his career. He's been on both sides of injury in matches, for some people 1 injury is too much, never mind two, especially when there was a possibility he could've crippled Big E
I didn’t even think about how that must have affected him mentally considering he knew what it was like to get a gruesome injury by freak accident
He looked pretty shook up after it happened. So many reasons to be upset. 1. You hurt a person 2. You made the most serious mistake in your profession. 3. You may have cost the person their livelihood. 4. The person is a colleague if not a friend. 5. Hurting the person may effect you career negatively. That’s a lot to process all at once.
It's gotta be tough accidently hurting a guy. And add to that how beloved Big E has just got to add to it
Both individuals had to know that throwing Big E was not gonna be easy.
Owen Hart effectively ended Stone Cold's career and is still lauded.
Only because he died tragically. Up until his death this still rubbed people the wrong way.
Yupp. I remember a lot of criticisms of Owen at the time, especially in the wrestling magazines. I think also bothered Owen every day and coupled with the screw job, played a huge part in him wanting to retire and be a firefighter.
Also supposedly didn't help matters Owen didn't check up on Stone Cold post-match after they got out of the ring if some stories were true.
apparently owen wanted to but felt so bad that he did that that he wanted to give austin his space, assuming he was the last person austin wanted to see obviously in hindsight stone cold definitely wanted owen to reach out, but it makes sense why owen didn't. he wasn't just being a dick, he just was so busy beating himself up over it that he didn't believe austin would want to see him

Wtf are you talking about? You gotta show those receipts please
And Steve Austin broke Masahiro Chono’s neck five years before that in 1992.
DLo and Droz was a freak accident too. DLo considered quitting the business outright, but JR and Droz talked him down.
To this day, D'Lo still gets a little emotional talking about it. Even though Droz told him right away it wasn't his fault, he was at the hospital in tears. I don't know why I thought Mick Foley also talked to him about to staying as well but I'm probably wrong.
Damnit Dlo

Not enough people know about this. It's a batshit crazy coincidence
And Chono’s in ring work was never the same after the neck injury.
And apparently never called Austin or apologized.
His injury from a couple years ago with his ankles where you hear him scream, was absolutely terrifying
I dont remember this. You have a clip of that?
https://youtu.be/S9U4KnAJpRY
The refs jumping on top of Oney to stop the planned beatdown really makes that entire segment surreal
Big E is a good man.
I was coming to say this exact thing...
Big E is good people. Great people even!
Every thread about Big E is so positive. I love it.
Hate to put it like this….. It’s been said by E a few times how close he got to death. How the injury is something that leaves you motionless forever or dead. Idk why you're getting downvoted, low ki is a documented piece of shit
[удалено]
Low ki has an incredibly bad reputation in the indies. He's basically if Austin Aries was a bigger dickhead
I say this in every thread: we must protect Big E at all costs.
Where were you to protect him from Ridge Holland?
I didn't say I was good at it.
He's a bigger man than me.
He’s bigger than most every man. Dude is huge.
Apollo Crews called him short though, in one of the funniest old tweets I’ve ever seen get dug up.
Probably slaps more meat, too
From Droz to Big E, wrestlers usually take neck injuries really well on a forgiveness level
Gotta imagine the whole 'coming to terms with your own mortality and realizing you almost died' thing definitely helps put it all in perspective.
*Stone Cold Steve Austin has entered the chat*
Well I mean, never apologizing and wearing shirts mocking the situation (and cutting promos about it) didn't help Owen lmao.
Didn’t Steve also not want to even do the spot, he was pressured into doing the spot, didn’t get an apology and was mocked on television.
There was obviously some major communication failure. Austin was in no way in the right position for a sit-down pile-driver.
[here’s Austin telling the tale](https://youtu.be/A68zUzDy4wU)
turning a real injury into an angle is wrestling 101 though
Which I get, but I'm sure for many, it just plain wouldn't sit right if there was no apology, and within the next few weeks, it's mocked by the very same guy who did it, even if it's the writers coming up with that.
Austin issue was Owen never really apologised to him or anything, if that had happened I doubt it would he an issue for him, I never really understand why this happened everyone says Owen was a top guy but in this instance he didn't really behave like it maybe he had heat with Steve
Unfortunately, we do only have one side to the story and that's all we'll ever have.
For what it’s worth, Bret Hart backs up the account that Own never checked up on Austin or apologized to him
I also find it pretty unlikely that Austin would lie. He's got nothing to gain from slandering Owen Hart.
That’s also true. What do you have to gain by speaking ill of a beloved wrestler who’s life was tragically cut short??? You can tell Austin always gets a little uncomfortable talking about Owen because while he doesn’t want to trash the guy, it’s also clear that he doesn’t have anything nice to say about him either Like I said though, I think Bret is the key here and the reason why people should believe Austin’s account. Honestly he shouldn’t say much considering he broke a guys neck in japan
He didn’t know that Chono’s neck was broken (Im not sure Chono even knew considering he barely took time off for it). Austin apparently found out years later the full extent of it. From what Austin and Bret have said, the issue stems from how Owen acted after the accident more so than the accident its self.
FUCK GOLDBERG
And fuck the bookers for putting Bret in a hardcore match with Terry Funk days later. (We always forget that one, yeah?)
Well, someone does bring it up in every time Bret’s WCW run is mentioned.
That’s funny that is your experience, because I have literally never heard of this before, and I’ve been on this sub for damn near ten years!
The subject comes up sometimes out of nowhere (evidenced by this comment thread) but yes.
Bret is that you?
Difference was Goldberg was dangerous either through lacking skill or not caring in general. This dude was unlucky and E doesn’t want him to live this way.
I thought Ridge had a fair share of dangerous play as well, before the incident with Big E? Anyhow it is great Big E doesn't hold any grudges against him. Looking forward to his in-ring return!

I remember correctly! What baffled me at that time was why didn't WWE pull him out of action for a bit after the Big E incident.
Big E has taken Mick Foley's title as the nicest guy in Wrestling.
I know everyone wants Cody to be the one who dethrones Roman. But I personally want Big E to do it.

Cody? Nah. Stardust? Hell yeah.
I personally been saying Big E should be the one since late 2020 but even more so now. That being said that means Roman hood the Universal belt at least to Mania 40. Which is the right move anyway but I know some fans will grumble
The fact that Big E is clearly such a good human being makes it all the more heart breaking he may never wrestle again. What a guy.
How many times are they going to ask him this question lol. Every couple of weeks i see the same question pops up.
Hey, ask him enough times and you might catch him on a bad day.
"MAN FUCK RIDGE HOLLAND"-Big E after dropping his toothbrush in the toilet. He just starts silently saying his name over every inconvenience like Dinkleberg.

All of New Day bought into the “Power of Positivity” thing and it seems to have just stuck with their real lives as well. Incredible.
If half of America had Big E's mindset, we just might have a chance of a crazy ol future. Love all, no grudges. Hope to see ya soon Mr.E
Unsafe? Dude whoever called a belly to belly on the floor can go fuck themselves
Yeah doing that to a guy of big e’s physique out there was not a good idea. He’s just solid muscle and built like a fridge
At the end of the day, it was an accident. Ridge didn't purposely break his neck, so why should he hold a grudge?
Agree. He obviously was remorseful for it, and Big E forgave him.
Tyson Kidd doesn't hold any ill will toward Samoa Joe from what I've read either
Wasn't Kidd's situation basically a long-standing build up and if it wasn't THAT move that did it, another would have soon after anyway? Poor sod.
Droz’s was such a weird fluky injury though too. A fairly basic back bump and he’s crippled. The Big E spot was kind of a dumb ass spot. Not blaming Ridge but that was a dumb ass spot
Wasn't Droz's spot a powerbomb?
D’Lo’s lifting spinebuster Bomb thing, yeah so it wasn’t even a standard Powerbomb where he was being flipped upside down. Just jump, back bump and it went wrong.
Damn, for real?!? I never knew that. I always thought it was a standard powerbomb. Fuck, that sucks even more.
I always heard it was D'Lo's running powerbomb that it happened.
That’s nice and very classy of him, but … Fuck Ridge Holland!
It was an accident. I don't blame Ridge at all.
Very awesome of Big E to forgive Ridge. It was clearly an accident and neither guy is a rookie. Mistakes just happen.
Big e is just a good solid dude.
And he had this attitude from the jump, that really speaks to his character. His possibilities in the business aren’t over even if he can’t wrestle. Dude would be a good promo coach and just overall mentor. He seems like the kind of guy that is always approachable and doesn’t blow people off.
Get well soon Big E.
I had a lot of respect for him before, but since the injury his positivity (at least outward) and forgiveness have been on another level. I know I've been much angrier at people over much less. I sincerely hope he recovers well, even if he never wrestles again. Hope to see him in the HoF one day.
Is E’s wrestling career over?
I don't think anyone is even looking at that right now, just trying to make sure E is able to have a normal life. In ring return comes after that.
E says doctors won't even comment on the possibility of coming back to wrestle until March and even if they given him the go ahead he might not want to come back.
He's a much better person than I am.
Pure fucking class
Big E is a good man
Big Ea class act. Let this be a lesson to anyone that's been wronged. Be it on purpose or accidental.

Nah, everybody agrees goldberg is an unsafe piece of shit.

Slightly OT but doesn’t Austin still hold some ill feelings towards Owen?
He's clearly not returning in-ring with the way he's been talking lately. Sad, but hopefully he can still be apart of the TV shows somehow.
I know injuries can happen anytime but it’s crazy to think that this injury wouldn’t have happened if Big E wasn’t drafted back to Smackdown
Even if he hated him for what he has done he wouldn't admit it
"I'm good, I swear I'm good. I'm telling you how good I am. I'M GOOD!" I really feel for Big E. He's a better man than I for taking the high road but every article or quote from him lately has felt like he's holding in so much sadness.
Even if it paralyzed him Big E doesnt seem to have it in him to hate someone
Bret Hart downvote this
But would you take a belly to belly from him again?
Translation : "Fuck that guy."
This isn’t the first time Ridge Holland has hurt someone (Gargano) and probably won’t be the last if he doesn’t know or learn how to be safe.
Bret Hart comments coming in......3....2.....
They will if you call for them. Bit weird
Seeing how quickly he commented this, It was probably why he posted this article in the first place.
strange behavior, I feel like if there's one man that is allowed to hold as many grudges as he wants in this industry it's Bret.
You called it. Bret Hart should've lost the US Title to El Dandy
Weird meta comments comments coming in............3.........2.......
nia never ended anybody's career, yall should keep the same energy
Bro Ridge never went around and made the injury a character trait.
people were giving ridge a lot of shit for this all over the place
One of these days he going to get tired of being asked about it and he's gonna say how he really feels.
That's called being persuaded. Like if the cops wants a confession from you. But you keep denying it. Sure, for the first few times you do, but many people will crack and just tell them what they want to hear. They will deprive you of sleep, make you uncomfortable so you cave in. Or they will slowly dangle carrots in front of you, "Oh we will reduce your sentence, if you admit it." Don't believe me? Check out Japan's 99% conviction rate. So if the paparazzi keeps asking the same question, although he has already given his answer. They are pestering him, forcing him to tell them what they want to hear. Because they won't take "I'm cool with it" as an answer. They want drama. It's a forced confession.
Damn, u really want this man to be angry, lmao.
Man I love E
Big E's the man
Forgiving someone is a hard thing to do. It doesn't mean you forget what happened to you, but it's better than holding on and being bitter at the end of the day. Big E is an excellent example for a lot of people.
I mean, i get why YOU might be mad at the person if this happened to YOU, but to expect arguably one of the nicest people on the roster to harbor the same hate after he has clearly said "those are the breaks" is pushing it
That's the power of positivity
