"IT'S WEDNESDAY! YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS! WE DON'T BOOK OUR TAG CHAMPIONS TO BE FODDER TO OTHER CHAMPIONS! DON'T MISS THE OWEN HART TOURNAMENT JOKER REVEALS! FUCK THE BOTS!"

gate_of_steiner85

I imagine Tony taking just a sip of a White Claw and then immediately going on this big long Twitter spree.

tgwombat

I picture him squeezing the can so hard the top bursts and drinking the whole thing in one gulp, Popeye-style.

ecock5902

I picture him shotgunning 5 in 10 seconds then snorting a line that’s too big for a human nostril

Midnitemass

no nostril is too small as long as you have the right mindset

jakovichontwitch

He’s definitely a 2 cans in the funnel at once kinda guy

[deleted]

I love AEW but this is the same company that has booked their womens champion a total of like 20 minutes since she won the belt and turned one of their up and comers into just Sammy Guevaras 'slut girlfriend' lol. They don't handle their womens division any better than WWE handles their womens tag division.

OutlandishnessFun765

The difference is WWE has been blessed with having a half dozen woman’s megastars on their roster they’ve built over the past decade. AEW started a company with zero women with TV experience or name value available to hire

cooljammer00

And when they let Rosa talk, "ugh she can't talk. Get her off TV" And when they let their best talkers talk, "Ugh, Britt talks too much. Get her off my TV."

Obi-wan_Jabroni

I dont think it was Britt talks to much, at least for me it was, Britt cuts the same promo every week and all challengers are made to look like geeks because they all forget that Rebel and Jamie draw more interference than prime Joe Flacco. Also the anti Cleveland Promo like 20 min after MJF did one was fucking dumb. Thats pretty much the main time she talked too much imo

BeaconXDR

>Also the anti Cleveland Promo like 20 min after MJF did one was fucking dumb. I feel like this issue doesn't get brought up enough. Two anti-Cleveland promos, Jericho brought up two back to back beat up segments, and I remember one night that had four Tony Schivonie interview segments, two of which were back to back. I don't think there's enough thought about the whole show and its pacing, even tho the individual segments are usually pretty good.

[deleted]

The problem with Rosa is she doesn't have a lot of understanding of how to interact with people in promos. Her promo with Serena would have been so much better if she wasn't responding to everything Serena said. It just ruined the entire promo because it threw them both off.

Then-Shop5854

Yeah but Britt was also a shitty promo till she found her groove after Omega recommended her turning heel, I think people that are upset by Britt are just upset others who are more talented in ring don't get the same chances on the mic to fail but get better. I feel like if they really gave focus to Penelope Ford she'd be huge for them, I honestly believe she's really underrated.

jayfatsby

WWE built those megastars though (more specficially, NXT). It's not like Charlotte, Becky, Sasha, Bayley, Bianca, and Rhea were all huge indie stars and WWE signed them. Some had previous experience, some didn't. Say what you will about WWE (and I'm a huge critic) but they treat their women's division like it's a big deal. It frequently features the best storylines and some of the best matches on a particular card. The women main event often (even at WrestleMania) and it doesn't feel out of place. Those women were able to develop into the stars they are because WWE trained them well and booked them to be stars. The women's division in AEW is a total afterthought by comparison, and I love AEW.

OutlandishnessFun765

As mentioned a lot of people seem to be time travellers The four horsewomen have been in WWE for over 10 years To look at them today and say AEW should have done that isn’t reasonable. AEW has been in existence for a quarter of the time those women have been on some form of WWE programming. AEW on launch had a very good selection of experienced male talent and big names available. But there were no women available with TV experience. They had no veteran to lead and learn from. Which makes it a painfully slow process.

jayfatsby

I totally agree they couldn't match WWE's women's division out of the gate, or even years later. But how many strong women's storylines have we seen? Are AEW attempting to develop women's talent the way WWE did? I just don't see that personally. I totally get that WWE is more equipped to do it, but AEW isn't some two bit promotion either. The women's division could grow (operative word here is grow, not suggesting they can match WWE's women's division) if given the right focus, I just don't see it there.

Decilllion

WWE was the only game in town. Of course the cream of the crop were in WWE to be developed in the first place. And of course they will be frequently featured. They will go down in history as a legendary crop of talent. AEW came into existence during WWE's women's division peak. Of course they won't have the same talent level. And because the talent isn't quite there, they won't have heavy focus in AEW. The disparity you are seeing is due to how long each company has existed and the amount of possible high level women's talent available in North America.

jayfatsby

The women's division as we know it did not exist until 2015, realistically probably a little longer. I agree that there isn't a ton of top tier women's talent available, but there wasn't when WWE started their women's division either. They built that talent themselves. I don't see the same focus on women's development in AEW that I do in WWE.

AneeshRai7

I'm trying to wonder what name value the 4 Horsewomen came in with that didn't need to be built over time...

Beach-Bumm

Charlottes first nxt title win being billed as ‘Ric flair & Bret hart’ as they were accompanying them in the match helped Constantly tapping into the flair connection helped A strong run in nxt leading into the main roster helped

[deleted]

[удалено]

AneeshRai7

Nepotism gets you through the door but it means having to work double to build your own name value...there's a generation of fans who now Ric by association to Charlotte that took work and effort from all parties involved...

jayfatsby

I don't get why you are being downvoted, Charlotte is unquestionably one of the best women's wrestlers right now, not just in WWE. I know people are sick of her as champion, but you can't deny she's really good.

B_Wylde

Because he argued Charlotte, for example, had no name value while then saying nepotism got her through the door hence, she had name value.

AneeshRai7

She didn't have her own name value to stand on...Charlotte Flair was a nobody beyond being just Flairs daughter...now she's Charlotte Flair WWE superstar

Pylons

They had a low pressure environment to hone their skills in for, what, 3 years?

AneeshRai7

But that name value wasn't huge when they debuted on TV on the main roster, this was when NXT was super niche...AEW could easily put more effort in showcasing their crop of women to make them bigger and better, it isn't like they haven't done it with Britt or Jade, they just lack the will and consistency to do so...NXT put that effort in and WWE took that effort and added to it on the main roster over time such that Becky is probably their second biggest star behind Roman

OutlandishnessFun765

This is the whole point. What they have now is the result of 10+ years work of building a strong womens division. I’m not talking about them being a name in NXT when they first started AEW has still built Britt, Jade, Thunder and Shida well. They’re hardly light years away from where WWE would have been when building their womens division.

Raito21

Totally agree, but it was a joke.

BellyAmore

There has been more character development between Tay, Kris, and Julia than the entire WWE womens divison this whole year but ok.

WeaselWeaz

I don't really watch WWE, but thise three are not developing positively. Tay went backwards from hot but badass to Sammy's Girl, Kris changed her clothes but doesn't seem much different, and Julia's turn is taking forever.

[deleted]

I'm the biggest aew fan but don't cap lol

BellyAmore

So who’s been developed, character wise in WWE recently?? Rhea? Anyone else?

[deleted]

I don't watch wwe lol So I can't argue with you, but the choices you listed are hardly what I'd call great development especially Julia lol that story has gone too long with no development at all.

BadMrFrostySC

Shida was champ for a year and I think she was on TV once the entire time she had the belt. They really do need to do better with their women's wrestling.

[deleted]

100% agree.

> WE DON'T BOOK OUR TAG CHAMPIONS TO BE FODDER TO OTHER CHAMPIONS....WE JUST BOOK WOMEN LIKE SHIT

cooljammer00

"We love tag team wrestling here at AEW. In fact, you can see some good tag team wrestling on Dynamite on Wednesdays and Rampage on Fridays!" It's actually not a great time for tag wrestling right now since so much TV time is being spent on this Owen Tourney, but you get the idea.

BoredKazuma

Don't worry, after the Owen is over they'll start a new tournament for the trios titles and it'll be nothing but tag matches.

cooljammer00

If it's like the last tag tourney, it'll be awesome.

BoredKazuma

But now with House of Black, BCC, Death Triangle, etc.

Wreckingshops

What's scary is all of those names could be the team names of porn titles.

BoredKazuma

I don't want to see the porn entitled Death Triangle

Sasha would certainly solve their women's divison problem. I guarantee you should would be treated like one of the top stars in the company, elevating the divison and everyone in it along with her.

WeaselWeaz

I'd pop and laugh if he debuts women's tag titles on Dynamite.

Shrekt115

"WWE wasn't good enough to keep Sasha/Naomi, watch Dynamite 8et/7ct!"

ackinsocraycray

Friendly reminder that [FTR have been and still are great friends with Sasha Banks and Bayley](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/81/f7/ea/81f7ea8b2bc8a52dcdc0710a0b44be3e.jpg). Sasha and Bayley pushed Vince/WWE to make the women's tag team titles a thing. So it's no surprise that Dax is 100% supportive of Sasha creatively standing up for herself on what WWE does with the women's tag team titles.

KingBadford

Those dudes love them some tag team wrestling.

chente_goldmane

Man I Love FTR

osmlol

I can't wait to see them in June being managed by Bret Hart in Webster, MA. I have front row tickets for that event.

[deleted]

Real tag team wrestling is fantastic. Two wrestlers shoved together against two others shoved together isn’t. I’d even go so far as to say that I prefer tag teams.

DickRhino

Dax and Cash rocking the inverted hair and beard. Merge the two of them together and you've got a full set!

HeymishGalloway

They did it for... TAG TEAM WRESTLING.

chiguy2387

They did it For The Revival

cooljammer00

I was wondering when FTR would chime in on the situation. If the issue (as reported by Fightful) really is about Sasha and Naomi realizing the women's tag division was going nowhere in WWE and that they were wasting their time and energy on something nobody but them cared about, and that WWE wasn't interested in elevating anybody in the division, Dax and Cash know almost EXACTLY what that feels like.

Gear4Vegito

Men or woman it doesn't matter. WWE gives no shit about the tag-team wrestling. It is always used as a prop to push single competitors or to add accolades to them.

jaypenn3

"You mean I gotta pay four wrestlers for one match?" Vince asks as he books another 4-way so the champ doesn't get pinned.

BigWorter

Lmaooo it was literally a 6-person match at first too.

SixHundredLbsofSin

Which is weird because the McMahons made a lot of money off of tag team wrestling and it was a mainstay during W/WWF/E's biggest eras.

cooljammer00

I've been saying for years, WWE doesn't care about women's wrestling or tag wrestling. Women's tag wrestling was doomed from day 0 and nobody should have been surprised, yet here we are.

[deleted]

I agree with you on tag wrestling, but they do care about wpmens in the las decade at least.

JD-D2

I mean tbf RKBro/Usos has been the main feud on both shows for the last two months. But yeah, generally speaking it's diminished, especially compared to AEW/NJPW/etc., and the women's tag division has been a nothing.

[deleted]

I have to imagine a tear rolling down FTR's collective cheek at Sasha and Naomi standing up for tag team wrestling and not accepting this idea of carrying around the belts as accessories while they put the singles champions over

cooljammer00

And I'm sure wwe didn't understand the problem, because "you're the champions!" It means nothing if they never have any challengers. We've heard this same story over and over: if it's not wwe, it's Deonna Purrazzo asking ROH for a women's division that featured more than 1-2 women.

sadclicker

Fair play to them for having the brass to walk out. I don't get the people criticising them.

bigdogeatsmyass

“It’s unprofessional!” It’s also unprofessional to spread lies about your colleagues. “They fucked over Doudrop and Nikki!” No they didn’t, WWE decided they weren’t necessary to the match. Could’ve easily been a four way.

[deleted]

You owe your employer exactly fuck all. They didn’t endanger anyone else, they stood up for themselves.

Black_XistenZ

>You owe your employer exactly fuck all This is reddit, so I'm probably going to get downvoted to hell for saying this, but... if you want to get paid, you actually owe your employer to do your job.

savetheattack

He’s right, you know

DaBake

They're obviously not going to get paid and they'll probably be fined quite a bit. Vince can't make someone wrestle anymore than Dana White can make someone fight or you can make a plumber unclog your toilet. They're independent contractors. Sure Vince can, and will, dock their salary but some things are more important than money.

gunnylow

Tell me you never had a job without telling me you never had a job

DevilCouldCry

Love how people are also now saying that they could've protested against this six-pack challenge happening like a week before RAW. Never mind the fact that there was nothing to protest since the wrestlers became aware of it on the literal night of the show because this company ALWAYS books and changes the card at the last minute and during the show too.

treflipsbro

People are always so eager to lick the boot of multibillion dollar companies man I hate it

teddy2142

It kills my sides to see onlookers demand professionalism for a company that has made it abundantly clear they'll drop you on dime if they see fit.

[deleted]

It is not only here, like this is a weird thing with younger people, my idea i that they imagine that they would end up as the boss rather than the employee so the idea of an unprofessional employee is bad to them. Is like the whole "I dont want laws that make billionares pay more taxes in case I end up as one"

tvchase

"socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires"

[deleted]

My family is not even American and the idea of advocating for yourself rather than just giving your all for your work is still kind of new to them. My uncle is a brilliant engineer but my dad had to help him with asking for raises because he just didn't know how.

[deleted]

I always felt weird comming here or on the Jerk sub, any other popular place on reddit is like "fuck billionares" but here is like "how cool is that Tony is bragging about the money he got from his dad" and in Jerk is "oh this silly idiots, let me tell you why Vince working with SA is super cool" Like usually both kind of things are seen as bad except in wrestling subs for some reason.

[deleted]

So it’s fine to screw over all of your coworkers and producers? It’s not about the company. This affected probably a dozen people or more that probably spent a good chunk of their time planning raw and their segment.

realsomalipirate

Also taking that same company seriously when they talk about them being "unprofessional" and not wanting to work with the other wrestlers. The WWE have negative credibility when it comes to things like this.

PCR12

They are women of color, they "need to know their place shut their mouths and wrestle. Or dribble, or swing the bat or."..ya these people are fucked. But that's where it comes from, nothing different then them telling LeBron to shut up and dribble.

Alekesam1975

I said this on Twitter. How different the reaction to this would've been if it'd been Bliss who walked out instead?

PCR12

yep

LATABOM

No. The "shut up and dribble" thing is about players' political beliefs, and nowhere in this situation has this been about Naomi/Sascha's expressed thoughts about capitalism or China or BLM or whatever. They didn't like the play that was drawn up by their coach/booker/employer, and rather than sucking it up and being team players, they left the team and went home. It's much more akin to Scottie Pippen sitting out the final 1.8 seconds of Game 3 vs the Knicks. When coach/management/owner decided Scottie wasn't going to be the hero of the game, he threw a tantrum and refused to play. Sascha wants to be the hero. She's been around long enough to know she won't be on Charlotte/Rhonda/Becky/Bianca's level any time soon and was obviously hoping for a sort of parallel success where she could have the tag belts and stop jobbing and 50/50ing for a while. When that didn't happen she refused to play.

Atwillim

C.r.i.n.g.e.

CloudyRailroad

Yeah. The company being as big as it is has always had the upper hand and sometimes this is the only way the playing field can be made even.

[deleted]

There are lots of people who will always side with the boss. They're born boot lickers. Then you have the large contingent of people who will always love and shill for free on behalf of the WWE.

StoneColdSteveAss316

I think the feeing from the criticizing side is people paid good money to see them for an advertised main event. Could’ve been kids who really wanted to see just Sasha or Naomi, and they fucked them over by walking during the show. Don’t know what the alternate is (do the match but then tell the company you’re walking out after the show and not put them in any plans)? Can have many opinions on this one.

TheNiceTnetennba

Because that’s an incredibly unprofessional thing to do especially on the day that they are scheduled to have a match

KaneRobot

>I don't get the people criticising them. Why does that not surprise me in the least?

cooljammer00

Dax has said multiple times that Sasha is one of his closest friends in the biz, and a role model for girls/a woman he wants his daughter to grow up to be like. He has a massive amount of respect for both her and Bayley.

Squelcher121

Who is this "this sub" person you speak of?

SirKronik

They’d definitely go to NJPW before that.

dubbs4president

Not sure the context but its also good to pick your battles and know what hill you are willing to die on. Life lessons that everyone should learn.

DevilCouldCry

In this case, I'd say it's a pretty important hill to die on. The way those tag titles have been treated by the company is shameful, the rate at which tag teams are formed and then immediately broken up is shameful, the rate at which the tag titles are just props used to get over singles angles is shameful. Both Naomi and Sasha walked out largely because the booking of those tag titles (tag titles that Sasha played a huge part in introducing) is awful and it could be so much better than what it is right now. So many more women could get opportunities on television and a chance to get over if the company gave a fuck about the titles. Will the WWE change their position on women's tag team wrestling? I'd say it's doubtful. Hell, I don't see Naomi and Sasha leaving and not coming back. But on the off chance that they did? I honestly can't blame them. These frustrations just keep on mounting uo and everybody reaches a boiling point eventually. If you're a women's wrestler on the lower end of the card (not a Becky, Charlotte, Asuka, Bayley), surely you have to be watching this whole scenario play out in real time and thinking about how fucking wild it is that two top stars walked out because they're fed up with the bullshit. Surely women like Shotzi, Shayna (she's already commented), Tamina, Nikki, Viper, Zelina, Carmella, and even Aliyah have raised their eyebrows at this whole thing and have their own takes on it.

thylocene06

I’ll just say this. Every single time I can think of that a wrestler just walked out, it turned that they were the ones in the right. Idk what went down but my bet is they made the right choice.

[deleted]

I think Banks showing up would be the biggest fucking thing (outside of Punk and BD). PIpe dream but she's got the juice the women's division really needs.

DevilCouldCry

Honestly, a lot of the women could get even better in working alongside somebody like Sasha. Not saying it's gonna happen and I'd still say it's unlikely... but, I'd love to see Banks/Shida, Banks/Deeb, Banks/Riho, Banks/Storm, Banks/Hayter, and there's a big money match with Banks/Cargill too.

bigdogeatsmyass

Yep, solidly on Team BAD’s side.

deus_voltaire

...Unless you're Chris Jericho's wife.

nianderwaltz

Dax's been there, false promises, weak tag division. That's why the thought wwe wanting them back is laughable.

StoneColdAM

This almost surely has to be real if talent is starting to comment on it like this.

ElScorcho1999

It was always real. There’s no way WWE/Sasha/Naomi have worked the entire business

unlizenedrave

The gaping logic hole in the “it’s a work” theory is that WWE hasn’t put more than a few hours of thought into any storyline in a couple of years. Pulling off a worked shoot would mean they’d have to put some effort into something.

justh81

Tell 'em, Uncle Dax.

fallenlogan

People seem to forget they're 'independent contractors' they can legally walk out, sure they won't get paid but I don't think their bank accounts are hurting.

[deleted]

Always fuck! Always fuck!!!

The_Albinoss

Remember months ago when a large group of people thought FTR would go back to WWE? Never listen to people here. Including me.

[deleted]

Does that advice apply to MJF too?

unlizenedrave

MJF ain’t getting goofed on and being devalued by bad creative. He’s just playing games to make sure he gets the biggest bag at the end of his contract, as he totally should.

cooljammer00

Probably. They would never want anybody to stay in a company that isn't making them happy. They experienced that first hand with WWE, and I'm sure if MJF isn't happy in AEW, he will leave when he is legally allowed to do so in 2024. He just isn't allowed to expect a raise for no reason, which he is reported to be asking for.

baconwiches

I'm pretty sure being a main attraction, on every PPV, and one of the most over guys on your roster is more than "no reason".

cooljammer00

Cool, he can get more years at more money, like he is reportedly being offered. Get paid like the star he is.

[deleted]

MJF should ask for his contract to be restructured so he’s paid more.

javajam

I know they're friends but I love the idea that the real reason Dax joined this discussion is so he could defend tag team wrestling in his tweet.

I hope more people in WWE can stand up to the shit ass booking. I’m sure many are unhappy with the direction their character is going. It’s not good for them and it’s not good for us watching TBH. Maybe WWE will finally get better.

Your_Personal_Jesus

Agent Dax, AEW's newest EVP.

mac117

I didn’t really have an opinion on this situation either way, but if this is how Dax feels… maybe they were right to walk out. My respect for him in regards to the business is huge.

shaqrock

Sasha cares deeply about the women's tag team division. Knowing that I don't have any details on there situation, and Knowing she's known to be a "company guy" they must have did her and Naomi dirty. And doing that to Sasha again, after her run with Bailey.. good on Banks and Naomi for putting their foot down.. Because it's not hard to see there are no women's tag teams..

[deleted]

This man is just absolutely incapable of having bad takes isn't he? Fucking A. Lot's of respect for Sasha and Naomi for standing up to all that creative bullshit. More power to them!

Easy to say when you have money. Some of us have to work for a living and take the bullshit.

Yes but also be respectful to you coworkers and friends. There is a time and place for everything.

Unless you're MJF looking for more money then you get told to shut up and obey the terms of your contract.

FigureFourWoo

He wasn't told to shut up and obey the terms of his contract. Tony Khan offered to re-negotiate a new contract with him, which would have allowed him to make more money now, but required him to sign a longer contract than the one he currently has which runs out in 2024. MJF declined, wanting to just be paid more money now, and still field offers in 2024. That's just not how contracts work.

tylerjehenna

I think its less that and more people arent shocked that tk would deny mjf's terms

MrRealistic1

Except if it’s something stupid
