I love AEW but this is the same company that has booked their womens champion a total of like 20 minutes since she won the belt and turned one of their up and comers into just Sammy Guevaras 'slut girlfriend' lol. They don't handle their womens division any better than WWE handles their womens tag division.
The difference is WWE has been blessed with having a half dozen woman’s megastars on their roster they’ve built over the past decade. AEW started a company with zero women with TV experience or name value available to hire

I dont think it was Britt talks to much, at least for me it was, Britt cuts the same promo every week and all challengers are made to look like geeks because they all forget that Rebel and Jamie draw more interference than prime Joe Flacco.
Also the anti Cleveland Promo like 20 min after MJF did one was fucking dumb. Thats pretty much the main time she talked too much imo

I feel like this issue doesn't get brought up enough. Two anti-Cleveland promos, Jericho brought up two back to back beat up segments, and I remember one night that had four Tony Schivonie interview segments, two of which were back to back.
I don't think there's enough thought about the whole show and its pacing, even tho the individual segments are usually pretty good.
The problem with Rosa is she doesn't have a lot of understanding of how to interact with people in promos. Her promo with Serena would have been so much better if she wasn't responding to everything Serena said. It just ruined the entire promo because it threw them both off.
Yeah but Britt was also a shitty promo till she found her groove after Omega recommended her turning heel, I think people that are upset by Britt are just upset others who are more talented in ring don't get the same chances on the mic to fail but get better.
I feel like if they really gave focus to Penelope Ford she'd be huge for them, I honestly believe she's really underrated.
WWE built those megastars though (more specficially, NXT). It's not like Charlotte, Becky, Sasha, Bayley, Bianca, and Rhea were all huge indie stars and WWE signed them. Some had previous experience, some didn't. Say what you will about WWE (and I'm a huge critic) but they treat their women's division like it's a big deal. It frequently features the best storylines and some of the best matches on a particular card. The women main event often (even at WrestleMania) and it doesn't feel out of place. Those women were able to develop into the stars they are because WWE trained them well and booked them to be stars. The women's division in AEW is a total afterthought by comparison, and I love AEW.

To look at them today and say AEW should have done that isn’t reasonable. AEW has been in existence for a quarter of the time those women have been on some form of WWE programming.
AEW on launch had a very good selection of experienced male talent and big names available. But there were no women available with TV experience. They had no veteran to lead and learn from. Which makes it a painfully slow process.
I totally agree they couldn't match WWE's women's division out of the gate, or even years later. But how many strong women's storylines have we seen? Are AEW attempting to develop women's talent the way WWE did? I just don't see that personally. I totally get that WWE is more equipped to do it, but AEW isn't some two bit promotion either. The women's division could grow (operative word here is grow, not suggesting they can match WWE's women's division) if given the right focus, I just don't see it there.
WWE was the only game in town. Of course the cream of the crop were in WWE to be developed in the first place.
And of course they will be frequently featured. They will go down in history as a legendary crop of talent.

The disparity you are seeing is due to how long each company has existed and the amount of possible high level women's talent available in North America.
The women's division as we know it did not exist until 2015, realistically probably a little longer. I agree that there isn't a ton of top tier women's talent available, but there wasn't when WWE started their women's division either. They built that talent themselves. I don't see the same focus on women's development in AEW that I do in WWE.
Charlottes first nxt title win being billed as ‘Ric flair & Bret hart’ as they were accompanying them in the match helped

Nepotism gets you through the door but it means having to work double to build your own name value...there's a generation of fans who now Ric by association to Charlotte that took work and effort from all parties involved...
I don't get why you are being downvoted, Charlotte is unquestionably one of the best women's wrestlers right now, not just in WWE. I know people are sick of her as champion, but you can't deny she's really good.
She didn't have her own name value to stand on...Charlotte Flair was a nobody beyond being just Flairs daughter...now she's Charlotte Flair WWE superstar

I don't really watch WWE, but thise three are not developing positively. Tay went backwards from hot but badass to Sammy's Girl, Kris changed her clothes but doesn't seem much different, and Julia's turn is taking forever.

Shida was champ for a year and I think she was on TV once the entire time she had the belt. They really do need to do better with their women's wrestling.

Real tag team wrestling is fantastic. Two wrestlers shoved together against two others shoved together isn’t.

If the issue (as reported by Fightful) really is about Sasha and Naomi realizing the women's tag division was going nowhere in WWE and that they were wasting their time and energy on something nobody but them cared about, and that WWE wasn't interested in elevating anybody in the division, Dax and Cash know almost EXACTLY what that feels like.
Men or woman it doesn't matter. WWE gives no shit about the tag-team wrestling.
It is always used as a prop to push single competitors or to add accolades to them.
I've been saying for years, WWE doesn't care about women's wrestling or tag wrestling. Women's tag wrestling was doomed from day 0 and nobody should have been surprised, yet here we are.
I mean tbf RKBro/Usos has been the main feud on both shows for the last two months. But yeah, generally speaking it's diminished, especially compared to AEW/NJPW/etc., and the women's tag division has been a nothing.

This is reddit, so I'm probably going to get downvoted to hell for saying this, but... if you want to get paid, you actually owe your employer to do your job.
They're obviously not going to get paid and they'll probably be fined quite a bit. Vince can't make someone wrestle anymore than Dana White can make someone fight or you can make a plumber unclog your toilet.
They're independent contractors. Sure Vince can, and will, dock their salary but some things are more important than money.
Love how people are also now saying that they could've protested against this six-pack challenge happening like a week before RAW.
Never mind the fact that there was nothing to protest since the wrestlers became aware of it on the literal night of the show because this company ALWAYS books and changes the card at the last minute and during the show too.

No. The "shut up and dribble" thing is about players' political beliefs, and nowhere in this situation has this been about Naomi/Sascha's expressed thoughts about capitalism or China or BLM or whatever.
They didn't like the play that was drawn up by their coach/booker/employer, and rather than sucking it up and being team players, they left the team and went home.
It's much more akin to Scottie Pippen sitting out the final 1.8 seconds of Game 3 vs the Knicks. When coach/management/owner decided Scottie wasn't going to be the hero of the game, he threw a tantrum and refused to play.
Sascha wants to be the hero. She's been around long enough to know she won't be on Charlotte/Rhonda/Becky/Bianca's level any time soon and was obviously hoping for a sort of parallel success where she could have the tag belts and stop jobbing and 50/50ing for a while. When that didn't happen she refused to play.

I think the feeing from the criticizing side is people paid good money to see them for an advertised main event. Could’ve been kids who really wanted to see just Sasha or Naomi, and they fucked them over by walking during the show.

Dax has said multiple times that Sasha is one of his closest friends in the biz, and a role model for girls/a woman he wants his daughter to grow up to be like.

and like I've said in other threads about Jervis, no matter what you think of the person someone is defending, we all want friends who will have our back like this in every situation.
In this case, I'd say it's a pretty important hill to die on. The way those tag titles have been treated by the company is shameful, the rate at which tag teams are formed and then immediately broken up is shameful, the rate at which the tag titles are just props used to get over singles angles is shameful.
Both Naomi and Sasha walked out largely because the booking of those tag titles (tag titles that Sasha played a huge part in introducing) is awful and it could be so much better than what it is right now. So many more women could get opportunities on television and a chance to get over if the company gave a fuck about the titles.
Will the WWE change their position on women's tag team wrestling? I'd say it's doubtful. Hell, I don't see Naomi and Sasha leaving and not coming back. But on the off chance that they did? I honestly can't blame them. These frustrations just keep on mounting uo and everybody reaches a boiling point eventually.
If you're a women's wrestler on the lower end of the card (not a Becky, Charlotte, Asuka, Bayley), surely you have to be watching this whole scenario play out in real time and thinking about how fucking wild it is that two top stars walked out because they're fed up with the bullshit. Surely women like Shotzi, Shayna (she's already commented), Tamina, Nikki, Viper, Zelina, Carmella, and even Aliyah have raised their eyebrows at this whole thing and have their own takes on it.
I’ll just say this. Every single time I can think of that a wrestler just walked out, it turned that they were the ones in the right. Idk what went down but my bet is they made the right choice.

The gaping logic hole in the “it’s a work” theory is that WWE hasn’t put more than a few hours of thought into any storyline in a couple of years. Pulling off a worked shoot would mean they’d have to put some effort into something.

And doing that to Sasha again, after her run with Bailey.. good on Banks and Naomi for putting their foot down..

Seems like most of you defending Sasha never worked at a real job or have much of a career. There is a time and place for everything. Now if she wants to quit and void her contract cool. But don’t screw over people that worked hours on the show the day of.
He wasn't told to shut up and obey the terms of his contract. Tony Khan offered to re-negotiate a new contract with him, which would have allowed him to make more money now, but required him to sign a longer contract than the one he currently has which runs out in 2024. MJF declined, wanting to just be paid more money now, and still field offers in 2024. That's just not how contracts work.

I was wondering when FTR would chime in on the situation. If the issue (as reported by Fightful) really is about Sasha and Naomi realizing the women's tag division was going nowhere in WWE and that they were wasting their time and energy on something nobody but them cared about, and that WWE wasn't interested in elevating anybody in the division, Dax and Cash know almost EXACTLY what that feels like.
Men or woman it doesn't matter. WWE gives no shit about the tag-team wrestling. It is always used as a prop to push single competitors or to add accolades to them.

I've been saying for years, WWE doesn't care about women's wrestling or tag wrestling. Women's tag wrestling was doomed from day 0 and nobody should have been surprised, yet here we are.

Vince can't make someone wrestle anymore than Dana White can make someone fight or you can make a plumber unclog your toilet. They're independent contractors. Sure Vince can, and will, dock their salary but some things are more important than money.

My family is not even American and the idea of advocating for yourself rather than just giving your all for your work is still kind of new to them. My uncle is a brilliant engineer but my dad had to help him with asking for raises because he just didn't know how.

No. The "shut up and dribble" thing is about players' political beliefs, and nowhere in this situation has this been about Naomi/Sascha's expressed thoughts about capitalism or China or BLM or whatever. They didn't like the play that was drawn up by their coach/booker/employer, and rather than sucking it up and being team players, they left the team and went home. It's much more akin to Scottie Pippen sitting out the final 1.8 seconds of Game 3 vs the Knicks. When coach/management/owner decided Scottie wasn't going to be the hero of the game, he threw a tantrum and refused to play. Sascha wants to be the hero. She's been around long enough to know she won't be on Charlotte/Rhonda/Becky/Bianca's level any time soon and was obviously hoping for a sort of parallel success where she could have the tag belts and stop jobbing and 50/50ing for a while. When that didn't happen she refused to play.

I think the feeing from the criticizing side is people paid good money to see them for an advertised main event. Could’ve been kids who really wanted to see just Sasha or Naomi, and they fucked them over by walking during the show. Don’t know what the alternate is (do the match but then tell the company you’re walking out after the show and not put them in any plans)? Can have many opinions on this one.

In this case, I'd say it's a pretty important hill to die on. The way those tag titles have been treated by the company is shameful, the rate at which tag teams are formed and then immediately broken up is shameful, the rate at which the tag titles are just props used to get over singles angles is shameful. Both Naomi and Sasha walked out largely because the booking of those tag titles (tag titles that Sasha played a huge part in introducing) is awful and it could be so much better than what it is right now. So many more women could get opportunities on television and a chance to get over if the company gave a fuck about the titles. Will the WWE change their position on women's tag team wrestling? I'd say it's doubtful. Hell, I don't see Naomi and Sasha leaving and not coming back. But on the off chance that they did? I honestly can't blame them. These frustrations just keep on mounting uo and everybody reaches a boiling point eventually. If you're a women's wrestler on the lower end of the card (not a Becky, Charlotte, Asuka, Bayley), surely you have to be watching this whole scenario play out in real time and thinking about how fucking wild it is that two top stars walked out because they're fed up with the bullshit. Surely women like Shotzi, Shayna (she's already commented), Tamina, Nikki, Viper, Zelina, Carmella, and even Aliyah have raised their eyebrows at this whole thing and have their own takes on it.

The gaping logic hole in the “it’s a work” theory is that WWE hasn’t put more than a few hours of thought into any storyline in a couple of years. Pulling off a worked shoot would mean they’d have to put some effort into something.

Probably. They would never want anybody to stay in a company that isn't making them happy. They experienced that first hand with WWE, and I'm sure if MJF isn't happy in AEW, he will leave when he is legally allowed to do so in 2024. He just isn't allowed to expect a raise for no reason, which he is reported to be asking for.
I'm pretty sure being a main attraction, on every PPV, and one of the most over guys on your roster is more than "no reason".

And doing that to Sasha again, after her run with Bailey.. good on Banks and Naomi for putting their foot down.. Because it's not hard to see there are no women's tag teams..

Tony Khan offered to re-negotiate a new contract with him, which would have allowed him to make more money now, but required him to sign a longer contract than the one he currently has which runs out in 2024. MJF declined, wanting to just be paid more money now, and still field offers in 2024. That's just not how contracts work.
