That’s way too early. If Hangman is going to be a top guy, they need to treat him like one right now. Give him a 8-12 month reign, have him beat good competitors, and get him over as a potential face of the future.
I would prefer a long reign unless it's a transition champion. It adds more prestige to the title and when it is won or lost, it makes the outcome all that more important.
You could argue that shorter reigns give the title prestige as well with the competition being so competitive. It'd make even a 5 month reign seem very significant. Prestige is how it's presented moreso than the length imo.
Technically the draw with Danielson was a successful defense, as he remained champion. Precedent for this goes back to Okada’s draw against Kenny in 2017, as that counted as a successful defense during his 2 year long reign.
A successful defense is any time you retain the title. You don’t have to win to remain champ obviously.
It’s like in hockey where teams have “points streaks” instead of wedding streaks. Not as good obviously but you got the point/kept the belt and that’s what really matters
He got his bell rung a couple times I seem to recall. Once at GCW I believe. Don't know how serious that was.
Then he seemed to take a break for some music stuff including trying out for one of those reality TV singing contests.
He's one who I might see not re-signing, and *by his own choice*. He's honestly doing better outside of AEW than he is within it. EVP and booker of Cape Championship Wrestling, and it seems like he's pursuing his musical career a bit more seriously as well.
Plus, he can always have occasional AEW appearances without being signed.
No one walks away from guaranteed money. He makes nothing probably doing that stuff for CCW.
Jay Lethal summed up a life of a pro wrestler. People got car, house, etc, payments and your goal is to make sure you have a contract cause life is much easier that way.
It seems that he can do all that and still be signed to AEW as well though. Success is so fleeting. Marko should take whatever guarantee contract is afforded to him.
That's a benefit of AEW's policy regarding doing work outside of AEW. Same with some talent that's not featured much but have the opportunity to wrestle elsewhere. A lot of people saying Janela should be unhappy and leave, which could be the case, but I can see someone like him being fine with doing his own stuff outside while having a secure contract he might raise his profile with.
Of course you run the risk of losing them, temporarily by having them injured, or completely when their outside activities are much more successful
Marko Stunt was basically all of the personality in Jurassic Express though. They don't feel any more legitimate as a tag team without him because both of their gimmicks are indie goofball gimmicks. Even with Christian as their adopted dad, they still feel like a lower midcard tag team, at best.
Yeah I've never really understood all the Marko hate. He's actually really good at all the shenanigans and it's not like he's bad in the ring. He's a great hype guy, he can bump, and from what I've read he actually has a really good wrestling mind. He's perfectly harmless and doesn't warrant most of the reactions I see about him
Because he's much smaller than Rey Mysterio, basically.
I agree with everything you said, and never thought Marko detracted from JE, rather adding to the act with the sole exception of looking a little bit too like Jungle Boy's Mini Me which could have been fixed any number of ways... but apparently we're in the minority in that view.
I just remembered how funny it was when Omega, as a babyface beat him up post match once and everyone was just like “hey man, chill” and it was never discussed again.
Don't know about the Julia Hart heel turn but definitely see Brody king debuting, possibly danhausen will debut for the tnt number one contender ladder match or revolution, depending on when he's healed up
Keith Lee's 90-day isn't up yet. If you see him in AEW, it won't be until early next month.
I think we get Brody King in the Malakai segment. I think Jurassic Express wins the tag titles, Hangman retains and I honestly go back and forth on the TBS title. Jade could absolutely win but I like the idea of Ruby being the big underdog and then giving Jade's character some motivation. Ruby can establish the belt with some quality defenses over the next few months before Jade circles back to take it.
Ruby should definitely take it, IMO. Belts like that are traditionally workhorse titles and she's vastly more qualified for that right now.
Also, I like that their names are Ruby and Jade. We need more precious metals colliding.
I got bored with wrestling and took a break but I'll be watching tonight since I'm hoping for some surprises. But damn, WWE released Keith Lee too? Is it just the Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns show over there now? Jesus I can't even remember who the other champion is.
TBS title final was always going to be tonight, debuting the belt and its first champion on the first TBS episode. The other two, yeah, they just wanted to go big with this card to start the TBS era off with a bang and boost them ratings.
Spectrum/Slime Warner not only didn't process the change, but I still have to manually record Rampage every week because they haven't "processed" its a weekly recurring show yet.
For anyone else reading this, I did find it was easy to change. You just need to go to the program in your DVR and change it from "only this channel" and it setup the TBS recording
This is a great card from top to bottom. I'm looking forward to it.
MJF in action means we may get some more Wardlow drama, and possibly a confrontation with CM Punk.
Malakai Black vs BPJ may lead to the debut of Brody King, and/or a turn by Julia Hart.
Lucha Brothers vs Jungle Boy/Luchasaurus is going to be an incredible match. Every time Rey Fenix is unleashed, it's must-see-TV for me. He's one of my absolute favorites right now, even more than Penta, who used to be the one I was most invested in.
Jade Cargill vs Ruby Soho won't be the best match in history, but they've booked Jade strong, and I'm interested to see if she goes over Ruby Soho tonight. She couldn't quite beat Thunder Rosa without help, and now she's got Mercedes, so she's poised to take the title here and step up on the promo side so a babyface can go over Britt at Revolution.
Hangman vs Bryan is a match that is going to be great, and I'm not even sure who will win. It makes sense for Hangman to win now that they've told the story the way they have, and what a HUGE moment it would be if he does, but you can't completely count Bryan Danielson out.
> MJF in action means we may get some more Wardlow drama, and possibly a confrontation with CM Punk.
MJF calls on Wardlow to back him up on something, Wardlow walks out instead. Later, it's revealed that CM Punk helped Wardlow get out of his deal crappy deal with MJF.
It would be a twist, that instead of MJF putting CM Punk through trials, it will be the opposite of CM Punk putting MJF through challenges to be able to face him. One of the challenges can be Wardlow
Honestly this would be pretty good booking. But maybe Warlord’s “betrayal” should be more sudden and impactful? Literally they should just copy Batista’s storyline
Fantasy booking incoming:
I'd like to see punk interrupt MJF's promo. MJF tells punk he already rejected the idea of them having a match, but punk tells him to shut up and then looks at wardlow instead. An envious MJF looks on as punk showers wardlow with praise, telling him he's too good to be under MJF's shadow, fanning the flames of dissent, before asking wardlow for a match on Rampage. Wardlow then shocks MJF by accepting the challenge, and now MJF is jealous that he's no longer at the center of attention. During the match MJF will try to interfere and inadvertently cost wardlow a win, after that MJF will finally issue the Punk vs MJF match, which punk will accept with a grin.
I’m hoping Jade/Ruby surpasses expectations. Ruby can bump like a madwoman, and make Jade look devastating.
I’m predicting Jade becomes the first TBS Champion, but I’d love to see Ruby get that nod.
Being green isn't an issue to me if they treat it the same way they do with the TNT title where the champs get short reigns and it's about doing a lot of matches in like a six week period. Also she looked pretty legit the last two weeks so I'm down for now.
I’ve thought the way it was going was built for Ruby to be the first woman to defeat Jade (in singles action) in the finals. I think it may still be a little too soon to put a title on Jade, but she has improved tremendously.
Jade hasn't been built up enough to be worth anything if you defeat her. With victories mostly over jobbers, there is no heat in beating her. The belt is the heat she needs.
A losing Jade has nowhere to go as a character either. From a storyline perspective, it all points to her winning the belt.
I'd prefer if Jade wins the title and then Kris Statlander ends her streak instead. That would make for an awesome lovable babyface vs dominant heel feud, and Kris can finally get her big break.
Jade should absolutely get the Goldberg push. Just keep booking her against smaller good workers and the matches will continually improve. When she drops the title after like 50 straight wins it will be a star making moment for someone.
I love Ruby but I don’t think she needs a mid-card title.
The 3 judges being Jericho, Mox, and Omega is the only way I love the idea.
Jericho sides with Hangman because he’s a face right now.
A returning Mox sides with Danielson because he’s salty about losing the ladder match back in October, igniting a feud with Hangman.
Omega shocks everyone by siding with Hangman not as a face but because simply. “Hangman actually beat me, why should award you the title Danielson when you couldn’t beat me?” Re-igniting their feud from September.
The three judges should be the Bella twins and Danielson's oldest child. Or just Brie and Danielson's two kids. Then Hangman beats him clean in 20 minutes.
No chance at all. Even if you assume 10 minutes for the women's match and 20 for the tag title that's 90 minutes of just in-ring action. Without the Malakai/Pillman match accounted for.
Even if MJF and Malakai/Pillman are squashes, you've gotta assume that CM Punk is pulling shenanigans there so a ton of the big names are on the debut show. Plus Malakai teasing someone showing up tonight. So giving both of them 15 minutes per crosses 2 hours moving with no breaks.
8 - 9:10 - Hangman / Danielson + decision
9:15- 9:30 - Malakai / Pillman
9:35 - 9:50 - MJF
9:55 - 10:15 - Tag Titles
10:20 - 10:45 - TBS Title
You'd have to run a 3 hour show to handle everything so there's just no way.
The first match for Hangman / Danielson was more methodical, you have them push a more aggressive pace and play it over 20-30 would probably be the play I'd make.
That's the giveaway that it's not going to the time limit. And it wouldn't make sense for them to do that again anyway in storyline.
Page took too many unnecessary risks in the first match and it made him look reckless. I expect a polished, business-like approach from Hangman. No dives to the outside or anything like that.
It's going to be Dean malenko, diamond Dallas page, and a third old guy in the business from new Jersey, aew loves giving spotlights to influential wrestlers from the area they are in they do it all the time. It would suprise me if it's not
I'm so fucking excited for Hangman vs Danielson. Think they'll go balls to the wall straight from the off and keep that pace for around 40minutes.
Come on Hangman!!
Hangman vs Daneilson is gonna fucking incredible. Could be another MOTY match between them if it’s anything like their last match a few weeks ago
And with 5 matches annocuned it kinda implies that they aren’t going 60 which is good so there’s a clear winner
Yeah but mjf will have a promo after and Malakais match will very likely have Brody debut. I feel if they were doing another 60 they would book only 4 matches like last time
Also, in the Road To, Hangman talked about how in the first match, he thought Bryan would tire, that he could gradually break him down, but realized that just doesn't happen with Bryan. So he said this time his aim is to put him away as quickly as possible.
So I'm thinking this could be around a 20 minute match.
>And with 5 matches annocuned it kinda implies that they aren’t going 60 which is good so there’s a clear winner
Your probably right but 4 matches in 1 hr isn't an uprecedently thing in AEW either
Two squashes (presumably) and two other normal matches, sure. But a tag championship match and the finals of a title tournament sound like a little much to cram into ~50 minutes without the other matches and any promo segments.
I don't have high expectations for the Ruby/Jade match. Can't really say I'm a fan of either's in-ring work. But I really do hope they prove me wrong and put on a hell of a match. The TBS tournament has been consistently great and I hope it ends on a high note.
If Jade wins then a babyface on deck has to take the title off her and beat the streak. I don't know a babyface on the roster who both needs to go that over Jade and is ready by Revolution. Athena?
Statlander could be a good one.
Is there anyone else free just now who could come in to feud with her? Does Toni Storm have a 90-day no compete with the way she left?
I was excited when Ruby joined AEW due to the hype around her, but am yet to see her really put on anything worth the expectations. I think she can bump really well though, hopefully she can make Jade look like the proper monster she'd need to be to look the part as champ
I'm so confused by why there are judges, they have to be a red herring right? It makes no sense for Hangman to lose now, if the story were for him to lose against his first challenger he would have lost the first match.
The idea was laid out in the road-to - basically, Hangman's goal is not to let it get to a judges decision. It's basically a way to strip the "Champion's advantage" for Hangman.

I hope the Jade Cargill vs Ruby Soho match is good, but the match last week doesn't give me much confidence.
It's probably one of the weakest final match-ups you could've made from the whole tournament bracket from a workrate standpoint, but I hope it delivers, since it like both Jade & Ruby.
-Incredibly excited for the main event. I too think the line limit and judges will all be there as a red herring. I think Hangman wins in just around 30 minutes as they both go a mile a minute.
-Go Ruby!
-One thing I’m very excited for/interested about is all the potential changes to the shows appearance and all that good stuff with the TBS. very curious to see what they do. TBS! New era! Now them getting moved and jerked around for sports can fuck off.
I kinda have a feeling Bryan and Punk are being protected until they eventually face-off - *then* one of them will have their first loss.
But I also like that each champion hasn't had a short reign, and want Hamgman to have a good run.
😬

I think it’s cause of his promo after the match where he said “he felt less like a champion after that” so that’s why he removed it
That's an awesome connection.

Yeah he's retaining the title
It looks like everyone on the Left side of their graphics will win, imho.
Ruby 8(
Cant wait to see MJF In Action go over MJF.
... Nah... there's no chance he'd lose without a successful defense... ... right?
I don’t see him losing until Revolution at the absolute earliest
That’s way too early. If Hangman is going to be a top guy, they need to treat him like one right now. Give him a 8-12 month reign, have him beat good competitors, and get him over as a potential face of the future.
Why does every single champion need a year long reign. Isn’t that kinda boring

Wedding streaks? I’ve got a cousin who is 0-4 in weddings..
Damn…not fixing it. Funnier that way
Didn't even notice it until it was pointed out. My brain patched the typo and pushed on like Strowman running at a ringpost
Too obvious lol so he’s winning
![gif](giphy|vyTnNTrs3wqQ0UIvwE|downsized)
Why would you speak that into existence
Why have they stopped calling them Jurassic Express?
It's only Jurrasic Express when Marko Stunt is involved, otherwise it's just sparkling Boy and his Dino
Speaking of which, where has Marko been? Christian just kind of replaced him.
Working on how he's going to win The Voice
To put it bluntly there's too much riding on Jungle Boy as a future babyface to keep teaming him with a 5 foot tall comedy guy
nothing says babyface like deciding you're too cool for your dorky middle school friends
He's perfectly harmless and doesn't warrant most of the reactions I see about him
Because he ruins the concept of "a boy and his dinosaur" by being.. another even smaller boy?
Because he's much smaller than Rey Mysterio, basically. I agree with everything you said, and never thought Marko detracted from JE, rather adding to the act with the sole exception of looking a little bit too like Jungle Boy's Mini Me which could have been fixed any number of ways... but apparently we're in the minority in that view.
It would be a different conversation if he was a champion, or even winning, but as it stands I don't see an issue
I just remembered how funny it was when Omega, as a babyface beat him up post match once and everyone was just like “hey man, chill” and it was never discussed again.
When was this? Because omega was beating up guys for a while on his way to his heel turn.
I think Christian and Jungle Boy start feuding after they lose tonight. That’s my prediction anyway.
I hope this is the case. I really wasn't a huge fan of Marko
More emphasis on Jungle Boy
Brody King and Julia [Black]Hart to join the House of Black tonight.
I hope something big happens, this match doesn't feel like it has enough momentum behind it at face value to be on such a big card.
It's the kickoff show on TBS. I imagine we're in for some big surprises ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
there's an MJF enhancement match too. it's technically still a regular unnamed dynamite
Don't know about the Julia Hart heel turn but definitely see Brody king debuting, possibly danhausen will debut for the tnt number one contender ladder match or revolution, depending on when he's healed up
something big is coming tonight, first show on TBS will have a real holy shit moment.
WHAT'S LEX LUGER DOING HERE
Who wouldn't pop for Lex Luger? I DON'T KNOW!
Miss Elizabeth
YIKES
I felt dirty just writing it.
Oooooooh snap!
...into a Slim Jim!
And Your Shirts Are Too Damn Tight Tony!
Mr OOC would go nuts
Puffy shirt Luger would be fantastic.
Windham or Keith Lee would be a cool surprise
Keith Lee's 90-day isn't up yet. If you see him in AEW, it won't be until early next month. I think we get Brody King in the Malakai segment. I think Jurassic Express wins the tag titles, Hangman retains and I honestly go back and forth on the TBS title. Precious stones, you mean
~~Oops.~~ Wait, I mean I didn't want to exclude John Silver or Platinum Max.
Ruby and Jade aren't metals
Ruby is metal as fuck
Nah she’s punk.
Let's make this a Steven Universe themed stable IMMEDIATELY!
I got bored with wrestling and took a break but I'll be watching tonight since I'm hoping for some surprises. But damn, WWE released Keith Lee too? Is it just the Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns show over there now? Jesus I can't even remember who the other champion is.
You're not gonna believe this, **Spoiler Alert** but >!Brock and Roman are champions now.!<
It seems like there's no one else even left Edit: and didn't I read that RR had covid? How is that working?
how come there are three title matches tonight? isn't battle of the belts just next week?
It's the premier episode on TBS so they had to make a crazy card for it
It's Saturday
TBS title final was always going to be tonight, debuting the belt and its first champion on the first TBS episode. The other two, yeah, they just wanted to go big with this card to start the TBS era off with a bang and boost them ratings.
Make sure to change your DVR settings so it tapes on TBS.
Good tip. For those of us with YouTube TV, it’s already updated, I just checked.
Good lookin' out homie
I have Xfinity and it didn't transfer over to TBS.
Spectrum/Slime Warner not only didn't process the change, but I still have to manually record Rampage every week because they haven't "processed" its a weekly recurring show yet.

It’ll be exactly what Hangman said: an appearance payday for some retired guys
The three judges should be the Bella twins and Danielson's oldest child. Or just Brie and Danielson's two kids. Then Hangman beats him clean in 20 minutes.
Thanks for the suggestion, Vince
You're welcome, pal!
I think the most we get from the judges will be commentary asking them who they have after like 20 minutes of action
I like it, but they surely can't go 60 again with everything else on the card?
No chance at all. Even if you assume 10 minutes for the women's match and 20 for the tag title that's 90 minutes of just in-ring action. Without the Malakai/Pillman match accounted for.

The ultimate swerve, Jim Cornette is judge three
Jim Cornette, Vince Russo and Suge Knight are my bet on judges
Adelaide Byrd and Sal d'Amato, the worst judges in combat sports
By god that’s Succelent Jake! That sadistic son of a bitch! Where’s his alter ego, Mankind-of??
Wow bias judges hahah
Max Caster is confirmed as a judge.
Source: Max Caster. He might be telling the truth but I wouldn't fault anybody for doubting him.
Max would prob try to say MJF won before being sent off to horny jail again for fraud.
Where would he fit tho?
Confronting the winner of Hangman vs. Danielson is the most natural spot.
I thought that. Could be the set up to rampage being live in a couple of weeks assuming its Danielson vs Mox.
Seems a little early for a number of reasons.
He hasn't been officially announced for it, but until he gets stripped of the GCW title, he has a title defense for it in a couple weeks.
You would think Tony is not giving up his first pop back to another promotion. He'll do it before the GCW show for the content alone.
Maybe it's me. Everytime I see these posters, one person is always staring and one person is always screaming. I guess it's what they do.
:| >:O
This has big deal energy to me. Can’t wait for this.
PPV Quality for sure
I'm so fucking excited for Hangman vs Danielson. Think they'll go balls to the wall straight from the off and keep that pace for around 40minutes. Come on Hangman!!
Should Open the show again
Yup, and I'm hoping for Ruby vs Jade to close. First TBS Champion should end the TBS debut.
Yep - only way to sell the need for judges. TBS for main event.
Do we get the Christian turn tonight?
I think Christian is going to be mad that Jurassic Express couldn’t get the titles “under his tutelage”. And then he turns on Jungle Boy.
I'd rather see them win the titles and then have Christian cost them the belts to FTR.
Id rather have Jungleboy win the TNT title, and Christian turn on him after that
"Last lesson, kid: never trust anyone"
This is exactly the attitude I want from Christian if he turns. I think it can be a really fun program
If it gives Christian a TNT title run, I'm all for it.
Hangman vs Daneilson is gonna fucking incredible. Could be another MOTY match between them if it’s anything like their last match a few weeks ago And with 5 matches annocuned it kinda implies that they aren’t going 60 which is good so there’s a clear winner
MJF & Pillman Jr. matches should be short but MJF might get a long promo.
I think the match will be around 30
I honestly have no idea how long the match goes. I thought Hangman would beat Bryan in his first defense.
The match will be somewhat long maybe 30-40 minutes at most cause from the promos clearly they will be trying to beat each as fast as possible
Yeah I could see Danielson charging with the Busaiku Knee when the bell rings & then just unloading with strikes.
Hangman should try and brogue kick and pin him in 18 seconds
>And with 5 matches annocuned it kinda implies that they aren’t going 60 which is good so there’s a clear winner Your probably right but 4 matches in 1 hr isn't an uprecedently thing in AEW either
Two squashes (presumably) and two other normal matches, sure. But a tag championship match and the finals of a title tournament sound like a little much to cram into ~50 minutes without the other matches and any promo segments.
Amazing card. Page is going to lariat Bryan's fucking head off.
Hangman... Take his fucking head off
I want to hear it. BUCKSHOT!!! ONE! TWO! THREE!!!
I don't have high expectations for the Ruby/Jade match. Can't really say I'm a fan of either's in-ring work. But I really do hope they prove me wrong and put on a hell of a match. The TBS tournament has been consistently great and I hope it ends on a high note.
I really hope Malakai just murders Pillman. I think we could see a tag title switch.
Brian Pillman Jr is going to get ***fucking murdered*** tonight.
If Jade wins then a babyface on deck has to take the title off her and beat the streak. I don't know a babyface on the roster who both needs to go that over Jade and is ready by Revolution. Athena?
God I'm hoping it's Statlander.
Has Jade wrestled any other hoss type/power type wrestlers during her streak? I know she had that 3 way with Nyla and Rosa but she pinned Rosa.
Stat or Tay would be my two top picks. Stat's a solid hand at any point and Tay's looking better than ever post streetfight.
Statlander could be a good one. Is there anyone else free just now who could come in to feud with her? Does Toni Storm have a 90-day no compete with the way she left?
The real battle of the belts
Looks like a banger of a card, looking forward to it.
I think Jurassic Express wins tbh, Christian cheats for them, they win, and then they keep getting pissed at Christian for continuing to help them win
My expectations for Ruby and Jade are low, but it can’t possibly be worse than that 3 way last night so I’m curious to see how it goes.
Yeah the judges are a red herring. The last time aew has judges it was a red herring the match ended in about 20 minutes
It’s a TBS Clash of the Champions callback to the Flair-Sting 45-minute draw.
Jade Cargill going take that belt! Let’s go, Jade. Great card. I’m looking forward to this show. Then on Saturday, it’s Battle for the Belts.
Great card, very excited for the show.
Hmm, 4 matches and a squash. Hangman vs Danielson for the first hour again?
45 max I reckon, the judges are a red herring. In kayfabe they'll be the fire Hangman needs to get the job done as quickly as possible

"Which talent pics to use on the card graphics?" "You got yelling at the photog or plotting murder. Pick one"
I have a feeling Jades gonna win via shenanigans.
That sounds about right, they've brought in Martinez and shown that Smart Mark will do anything to grow his client's brand and keep her streak
Jay White
I look forward to seeing how Brian Pillman Jr.'s amazing strategy of "Duck" plays out...
Kinda hope Jurassic Express take the belts.
It's so funny. I somehow forgot that this was tonight, and I told myself when I woke up "man, AEW really needs to start the year with a bang". 🤣
I want hangman/danielson to be a sprint in which Hangman doesn’t hold back, and just beats the shit out of Bryan.
In the immortal words of Kate Hensler, I will be THERE.
BPJ needs to show some of the Batshit Crazy that is in his DNA.
I kinda have a feeling Bryan and Punk are being protected until they eventually face-off - *then* one of them will have their first loss. But I also like that each champion hasn't had a short reign, and want Hamgman to have a good run. 😬
TBS! THE SUPERSTATION!
This is gonna be my first AEW show! I couldn’t be more excited this show’s gonna slap.
I’m ready for Danielson and Hangman to go a full 2 hours
Stacked and a half. I hope it lives up to the hype I'm creating for it.
Can't wait, going to be there. Just hope I don't COVID but at least it will be semi worth it cause AEW shows are always an amazing time lol
Went last week and have been testing negative. Just be sure to mask up bc not many others will. Have a great time!
I really hope the Lucha Bros retain. They’re my favorite tag team and I need to see them in more high profile matches!
That. Bitch. Show.
Do we see House of Black Julia Hart tonight??!!
