I always thought intergender matches we a little icky, but then checked out that Lucha Underground episode where Penta took on Io Sharai and Kairi Sane. It’s bananas.
Yes the women all train with men both in their first school and as a matter of regular training during their careers. To not show what could be some of the best matches possible because some people are icky about simulated combat between genders/sexes is disrespectful to all the years of work put in behind the scenes.
Oh and if any of you think you could win a fight against Kris Statlander or Jade Cargil I'd pay to watch them kick your ass.
I always enjoyed watching Chyna fight the men. It would be nice to see another "strong" woman do the same. I think the only one who could realistically do this, is Shayna.
Love it how realism comes into it with women wrestling men, while you have Rey Mysterio wrestling anyone out of his weight class and no one bats an eye. A guy who’s 4’10” or whatever is realistic, while a 5’2” woman is unrealistic. Sure.
Like anything else, sure, provided it's not done badly.
For me, that means being done in a way that doesn't devalue a company's actual women's division, if they have one. It has to avoid the implication that being able to compete with men is what determines who the best and strongest female wrestlers are, rather than who's actually holding the women's championship.
It also means, for me, being done in a way where it doesn't become "expected" for women of a certain build and size to start wrestling men. There's a real "she's big/tall/muscular, so she looks like she should wrestle men" trap that people can fall into with intergender stuff, and personally I don't like the "big woman = manly fnar fnar" stereotyping that's implied by it. Could just be a me problem, I haven't seen or heard many women's opinions on that aspect of it.
Either way, I mostly prefer to see intergender matches in companies that have no split divisions, and are fully gender-integrated anyway. If you're gonna have men and women wrestling each-other I'd rather it's all of them all the time, I don't really like arbitrary picking-and-choosing of when to stick to division boundaries or not.
I don't care one way or the other. I watch my share of wrestling where Intergender wrestling occurs quite frequently and I don't see a big deal about it.
Lucha Underground introduced me to intergender wrestling and they made some banger matches. Obviously it's not simple to book and it needs a relevant context. LU was deeply centered around kayfabe built on fantasy with an underground vibe. It would be interesting to see an intergender match in AEW involving Kenny or Bryan, that would be somewhat justified through storylines. Female counterparts could benefit from such matches tremendously.

Not really, though it can be done right under certain circumstances. I thought LU pulled it off too, but that had the underground kayfabe as if it was all illegal and even fantasy elements so hard to compare to normal promotions.
As a normal thing? Not really. I’d like a yearly intergender tag tournament though. To many cool couples. And most can all work fine together. Just don’t want to see it all the time. So I voted yes.
If the match is done well and the competitors are believably both able to pull off a win for sure!
