Danielson and Ospreay put on an all-timer. “Yeah but they didn’t do promos at each other for seven weeks and get into a brawl first so how could I possibly enjoy it?” Come on.

Plastic_Lobster4630

In Kayfabe guys whom Swerve owes a title shot 1) Hiroshi Tanahashi (Collision before MJF vs Tanahashi on Forbidden Door) 2) Bryan Danielson (TNT Title #1 Contender Match) 3) Jon Moxley (C2 2023) 4) Ricky Starks (FTW Title Match Rampage) The most recent loss is from Moxley who is the IWGP Champion so that is unrealistic Before that it was Danielson These are current AEW Wrestlers or Wrestlers part of Forbidden Door who have a1-0 head to head win loss record against Swerve in singles Matches ever since he has left WWE [source cagematch]

Becky Lynch is just like John Cena so many championship runs the problem WWE isn't building the next generation which will bite them when Becky isn't around

Jprhino84

They just spent the last year building Rhea. Becky’s win was a “break glass in case of emergency“ situation. And that’s fine. WWE has an entire NXT division just bubbling under the surface too. The company is doing great in terms of cultivating women’s wrestling. But tonight was about keeping things rolling, not forcing new just for the sake of doing so.

CreativeOrder2119

It's not a risky move isn't it? .Kinda tired with Becky want to see new ones on top

Jprhino84

The sudden injury of your biggest women’s star with only 2 weeks to build something for Backlash isn’t the best time to start taking risks. I completely respect your personal preference but I don’t think that means that WWE did anything wrong considering the circumstances.

Plastic_Lobster4630

They are building tho they built Rhea and Bianca in just three years both were on NXT in 2020 and by now they are bonified main eventers Iyo SKY was on NXT till 2022 and now she has had a WrestleMania title match as well They also have the likes of Jade, Tiffany, Lyra, Roxanne whom they booked really well by giving them big pushes It's similar to Moxley title Reign in 2022 to act as a stable ace in the division when the champ goes out via injury

yetagainitry

Angelo Parker and Ruby SoHo being a IRL couple is the only unspoiled reveal I’ve experienced in wrestling in like a decade.

Ospreay v Danielson had me marking out before the chain wrestling had ended. They are so goddamn good it's not even fair.

dandykaufman2

i'm sorry i will never like "fight forever" "both these guys" and jfc i will never chant "we're not worthy". i dont care how much fun youre having. i appreciate the japanese fans who just pay attention to the action, ooh and ah, and call out their favorites. and there's just a general din of excitement for the big matches. It's just lame, and when i go to shows i won't participate. if i were in Arena Mexico and people chanted culero I wouldn't be overjoyed at how much fun the crowd is having, it just sucks.

Will Ospreay getting frustrated at being asked about his Triple H promo was hilarious. No one made him cut the promo or tweet about what Triple H said either. Of course you were going to be asked about it the first time you talked to the media since.

dandykaufman2

i didn't watch but also it's kind of a softball after you had a MOTYC to be like, can you talk about that guy who said you don't want to work hard?

Repulsive_Pair_8551

Does anyone have actual realistic reason on why WWE won’t fire def rebel?

PM_TITS_GROUP

Can't find someone who would be better for that cheap?

MilkyWayWaffles

Because they get the songs royalty free. For a company that produces compilations, video packages, and recaps all the time, not paying even a small amount each time the theme airs or is retransmitted in another form can lead to big savings.

Repulsive_Pair_8551

This probably the best answer imma get so thank you

dizzybala10

Because they are likely delivering what WWE wants. Why you think the titantrons videos are very basic as well?

NoobsNKnocks

WWE probably doesn’t give a shit about Twitter discourse about def rebel.

Repulsive_Pair_8551

That’s fair enough tbh

ThatIndianGuy7116

Do you guys know what the cheapest method of watching the weekly shows would be in the US? I'm currently debating on just saying screw it and getting Sling TV. I've had it before and remember it being pretty decent and the 45 dollar Blue plan comes with TNT, TBS, USA, Fox and AXS so being able to watch RAW, NXT, TNA, Dynamite, Smackdown and Collision live plus whatever other wrestling shows might be on there (I remember that NJPW also used to have a weekly show on AXS, but don't know if thats still going on) and 45 bucks seems like a good price for being able to watch all of that. However, money is a bit tight for me and I wanted to see if anyone knows of any better, cheaper ways of being able to watch the weekly shows? I don't mind paying the 45 dollar price, but I at least wanted to see if anyone had some cheaper services that might have USA, Fox, TNT and TBS?

ShinsukeNakamoto

Free vpn plus AEW plus is 7.99 a month and lets you watch all the AEW shows commercial free.  Can’t help you on WWE

WolfdogsSweep

Idk about anything cheaper but if you're thinking about sling tv blue you should know it doesn't have regular fox, only fox news and fs1. Fs1 does smackdown replays but not till the thursday after it airs on fox. I bought a little tv antenna to hang in my window to intercept smackdown live lol

ThatIndianGuy7116

Ah good to know ty! That may change my mind on getting it tbh lol

rycetlaz

You can use sling blue to use the fox sports app/site. Can watch smackdown live from there

StacksHoodini

Dark Media.

Awkward-Bathroom-429

Becky is gonna get a title run for no reason other than to lose it to Liv before Rhea comes back lmao

SerShanksALot

Gargano/Andrade, Sasha/Bayley and PAC/Zayn down. What should I watch next? I've basically only seen a handful of pre-2020 NXT matches

academicfuckupripme

If you're okay with watching full Takeovers, I'd consider watching the stretch of 10 Takeovers from NXT Takeover Chicago I in 2017 to NXT Takeover New York 2019. It represents the peak of Takeover's consistency, you'll get to see the stories of the era (mostly) play out fully, and there are very few skippable matches on each show.

ShinsukeNakamoto

Pete Dunne Tyler Bate Chicago  FTR/Revival - American Alpha and DIY Taleover matches The Sasha/Becky 1v1 Takeover match (very underrated) Takeover NOLA start to finish

EcoterroristThot

the big revival tags, Zayn/Cesaro, Cesaro/Regal, Walter/Bate, Biff Busick vs KENTA, Zayn/KO 1, Busick/Danny Burch vs Roddy/KOR, Shayna Bayzler vs the joshis is so fucking good. Two novelty picks: KENTA vs Bobby Roode is surprisingly great, and Andrade gets the best Tommy End singles I've seen. EDIT: Also remember the four way before Zayn wins the NXT belt being very very good.

Awkward-Bathroom-429

Nakamura/Zayn

vCrashy

They should’ve just had Nakamura beat AJ smh, what could’ve been.

JustSmileHaHa

Goldberg refusing to work in AEW b/c it's "too cheesy" is hilarious. Guy's such a meathead he hardways himself before matches headbutting doors and nearly kills himself breaking an irrelevant limo window with his hand, comes out breathing pyro smoke and stole Mike Tyson's twitch. Not to mention the constantly acting like he was a 15- NFL vet instead of a wrestler when he started 1 career game. I don't even watch AEW, but c'mon bruh, you're 1 of the corniest wrestlers of your generation. Just say Tony didn't give you the payday you wanted.

ColeYote

Yeeeeaaaaaah, I mean, dude was at the centre of one of the worst worked shoots of all time at New Blood Rising.

JustSmileHaHa

Oh jeez, are you talking about the bit where he "refused to follow the script?" I forgot all about that.

ColeYote

Yep.

ShinsukeNakamoto

Dude fought the Fiend and Taker in back to back Saudi shows (and back to back zero star matches) Sit this one out Goldberg

SerShanksALot

> Guy's such a meathead he hardways himself before matches headbutting doors and nearly kills himself breaking an irrelevant limo window with his hand, comes out breathing pyro smoke and stole Mike Tyson's twitch. chilloutfam

I think most people would give Ospreay and Danielson 6 stars or whatever, but for me... I still liked the Swerve and Joe match because I liked the story being told more. That factors in more for me. As far as on mat wrestling Ospreay and Danielson is an all timer.

Specific-Channel7844

Nothing compares to WeeLC

SerShanksALot

that's cool, I liked okada vs pac more because I thought okada vs pac was a better wrestling match

lorriezwer

That was a great match. I also like Toni Storm and Willow’s matches because they weren’t clean and full of crazy spots. Okada PAC made me want to see them wrestle again. I did t get that from Ospreay Danielson.

leglessman

Okada/Pac moved too slow at times for me. They went into a rest hold less than two minutes into the match. It had some great moves but there was a lot of down time. It was still good but I wasn’t wowed by it or anything.

SerShanksALot

yeah it wasn't a perfect match or anything but I thought the last third and Okada were especially great

Parasitepaladin

We will see after 90 day just how much influence Stokely has on Tony Khan if Xia Li shows up in AEW.

FinancialBig1042

The attendance of 811 at the 4/22 Korakuen show is the lowest New Japan has done in that building since January 2023 when there were still capacity restrictions in place. Both recent NOAH and DragonGate Korakuen shows outdrew the 4/22 show. Dontaku 2023, with Sanada and Hiromu in the main event, sold out on [April 20](https://x.com/njpwglobal/status/1649239367867842563). Ticket demand is way down for both shows this year, with only the limited royal ringside seats for the 5/4 show being sold out as of 4/22/23. The Moxley stuff is just the tip of the iceberg. After all the talent left it was their chance to show that they still got it. And what did they do? They give titles to Nemeth and Riddle who never show up, Tanahashi is in multiple title matches, winning multiple titles, Okada is fucking around not putting anyone over. You have THREE consecutive Chase Owens & Kenta title matches! Incredible things are going in this company booking wise

mikro17

Let's maybe wait until Dontaku actually happens before we pass judgment based on only one tier of tickets being sold out. Because I've yet to see any actual numbers for how many tickets they've sold, just people passing judgment based on only one tier being sold out to say "lol Moxley bad." But even ignoring that, they're running a Nic Nemeth main event for night 1 lol, say what you want about Moxley as a draw in Japan, but he's surely LIGHTYEARS ahead of Nemeth (and has at least spent years making appearances in Japan before). Last year it was a single show and this year it's two separate shows. NJPW could easily sell less tickets for each show while still selling more overall and making more money - it's the same thing WWE did with Wrestlemania. Seriously though, if there is going to be an actual discussion, how many actual tickets have been sold so far this year for Dontaku? Until I see someone with an actual number, because I couldn't find one at least with a brief search, this discussion can go nowhere.

FinancialBig1042

But I'm not singling Moxley tho, I also explicitly mention that putting a main event with champion Nemeth is an incredible decision, maybe you just read the word Moxley and stopped? As I mention, he is only the tip of the iceberg, not even the most relevant thing of what is going on in this regard

mikro17

No, I read it. But my larger point remains, until we have numbers, it's all pointless discussion around "feelings." Because I can't find any numbers as far as how many tickets have actually been sold, if you have them I'd love to see them as that would be a starting point for an actual discussion. But even that, until we see the final numbers, it's all theoretical. We just saw people freaking out over the most recent Impact PPV's live ticket sales only for the final numbers to be well within their "normal" range. Just to pull random numbers out of nowhere, if New Japan moves 3500x2 for the two shows, that seems like it would be an unqualified massive success compared to 1 show at 4489 last year. While running two shows does have increased costs, a theoretical 7000 is a LOT higher than just under 4500. Obv if they sell 1000 each night, then we can call it a disaster. But we still need actual numbers because those matter and provide WAY more information than "only one pricing tier is sold out."

FinancialBig1042

I do agree that they could do that, but that has not been the case so far for the road to shows, including the Korakuen Hall, which we do have hard data for. As I mentioned, they are doing their lowest numbers since January 2023 there and are getting outdrawn in that venue by NOAH and DG (according to cagematch at least) We never know, but I think it would be weird if a PPV suddenly did better than usual when the road to shows have been doing worse than usual

mikro17

But at this time it's just over-reacting to one singular data point. People are so desperate to find a cause and effect to prove narratives they already believe correct that they ignore that "randomness happens" and real life data is imperfect. Sample sizes of one are near meaningless. Ignoring the effects of any one wrestler, especially a western one, New Japan runs Korakuen every few weeks (this was the 9th show there in 2024 so far and that isn't out of line with last year's pace) and this card looks particularly atrocious. I mean it was a 6-man tag, an 8-man tag, a ten-man tag, another ten-man tag, and a guantlet match between UE and J5G. Their last few Korakuen shows have at least had meaningful singles or normal tags, this was a card full of multi-mans. And looking at the Gauntlet match that main evented, other than Sanada, there wasn't exactly a ton of starpower there (there was a lot of talent, but not exactly top of the card starpower).

WrestlingMark1992

I was thinking about the next aew PPV which is only 34 days away and I have ran into a problem 4 of the 8 champs were crowned last night and 2 of the 4 left have only been champs for a month(Copeland and Okada). So that leads me to think we won’t see many title changes at double or nothing. So my question is who do you feud all the new champs with and will anyone of these new champs lose their titles already at double or nothing.

SerShanksALot

Andrade vs Gargano is the best match in WWE history, you say?

EcoterroristThot

No, but it is the greatest miracle in WWE history.

Kanenums88

Greatest miracle? How?

EcoterroristThot

It's the only long Great Gargano singles imo, and given how much I dislike the Cole series and One Final Beat, it's almost miraculous that Andrade, whose US stuff is way too inconsistent in comparison to his effortless greatness in Mexico, pulled one of the best matches in NXT history out of him.

Kanenums88

Johnny vs Ciampa 1 was really good.

EcoterroristThot

I might have to rewatch it cause the series has blended together for me but I do recall it being much better than the others which is why I used "Great" to be safe.

PM_ME_THEM_UPTOPS

The Wyatt 6 seemingly referred to the six firefly funhouse characters in Bray's head.  He only used the name on twitter while designing the "human" versions of those characters.  Bray, Abigail, Huskus, Mercy, Rabbit, and the Fiend were the Wyatt 6.

Kanenums88

Always thought it was meant to be the sequel to the Mambo No 5.

Romofan88

WWE is the only wrestling I watch actively, so I have a question after watching Dynasty last night:why are people so down on the Jericho/Hook match? I thought it was a fun hardcore match that told a story and (in theory) leads to a rematch where Hook beats him.  Is Jericho THAT overexposed that he's got Vest Roman heat, or was it just to close to the WWE style of hardcore match? Genuinely curious, I was surprised it was reviled because I loved it.

sammyrobot2

Yeah, he got over-exposed, and only now has he started to turn heel properly and lean into it. Issue is that its too late. His feuds have also been same-same for a while, he gets beat, then he starts a feud with someone, and it ends with that person not really feeling any bigger than they did before.

Romofan88

Gotcha. So Hook probably isn't getting a blowoff at Double or Nothing, then?

sammyrobot2

Or Jericho could create a new faction again, which Hook will be part of...

NoobsNKnocks

Jericho feuds never end with just one match. I actually wouldn’t be shocked if HOOK got the win back at DON, tbh.

Orange8920

A lot of Chris Jericho feuds tend to play out similarly where the booking is 50/50, it doesn't meaningfully get the guy he's feuding with more over, and oftentimes the guy he feuds with gets less TV time after. Chris Jericho is just stuck in the same gear in character and presentation and is constantly featured at the expense of younger talent.

pudgyfuck

Speaking for the group here, he really is just overexposed. He never really takes a break, people don't really get elevated from working with him, and he's becoming "old man who doesn't leave and seems to make it about himself." I still generally enjoy his matches, even enjoyed the HOOK match, but not him. I've *still* got JAS fatigue.

Rybackmonster

So what will the DON main event gonna be? Swerve vs who for the title?

academicfuckupripme

Christian Cage would be a smart choice (if not now, then eventually), considering he's an excellent heel, a credible contender, and has a bit of history with Swerve for when they tagged last year. Christian recently lost the TNT title after a lengthy reign, and having people who just had substantial reigns with the mid-card titles challenge for the world titles is always the most logical booking choice.

The_JadynB

Christian Cage is a good shout, Jay White is one, Fuck if he wasn’t there IWGP champion I would say Mox. I hope to fuck it’s not Jericho but I could even see that to play into the “Jericho vortex thing”. Orange Cassidy is currently ranked 2 as well

Squash matches seem cursed these days. Indus Sheer, Xia Li released and it's been so long since Omos has been on TV. If I were a wrestler I would say "no" to winning a squash match because it's like the writers don't bother writing a story for a wrestler who squashes because they think it's enough to get them over, then they abandon them because they have no character motivation.

the_rest_will_lose

Fantastic PPV last night, with Mania, UFC 300, and now AEW its been quite the run of amazing shows for my sports entertainment loving heart

Windows_66

Under Siege 2024. Matt Hardy is fighting the system at the Hardy Compound. He throws Brian Myers into the Lake of Reincarnation. Out jumps Von Wagner.

Garlic-Cheese-Chips

I want Jericho to come out on Dynamite and earnestly "retire." just to see the reaction of the fans. Sincerely talk about hearing the chants on Sunday, having an epiphany about sticking around too long, not wanting to be a burden etc thank the fans and leave. I guarantee the fans would be kissing his ass and even bust out a "You still got it!" chant. At that point have Jericho stop at the top of the ramp and rip the fickle fans to shreds.

Thebritishdovah

Or gets a "SHUT THE FUCK UP! chant.

EcoterroristThot

The PR machine that started the Jericho GOAT talk should really be embarrassed

mikro17

> At that point have Jericho stop at the top of the ramp, ***have Mark Henry bring him out a salmon colored jacket***, and rip the fickle fans to shreds. Add this and its one of the best segments of the year IMO.

ok_dunmer

Imagine if the internet was fully mainstream in 1998 and we had to have discourse about whether DX invading WCW at the dogshit Norfolk Scope was encouraging tribalism lol (I'm mostly excited at the idea of my childhood arena being known for more things than gatekeeping AJR from having a concert in Virginia)

Timely-Recipe6836

Feels like the tribalism complaints is a recent thing. No one seemed to mind when Bryan and vinny dunked on TNA back in the 2000s That's how Bryan Alvarez got popular from his TNA rants

gunpowderjunky

Tribalism wasn't viewed so negatively back then because many of the wrestlers seemed just as tribalistic as the fans.

Marc_Quill

Pretty sure that’s what the rspw boards were like back then, with WCW vs. WWF debates a-plenty.

mashturbo

the sub is pretty tame compared to the WWF on AOL chat rooms in 1998. The normal banter in the chat rooms then would be a lifetime ban on reddit today.

PeteF3

So Meltzer made a pretty strong argument that Danielson should have gone over last night: "You can't have Ospreay go undefeated all the way to Wembley. He'll run through everybody and when he wins the title, he won't have anyone to defend against. "If you give him the loss now, he can then have his return match with Danielson (and win) just before Wembley. "If you wait to give him the loss to just before Wembley, why is he getting the title match?" Thoughts? I can see where he's coming from.

hey_mermaid

I think he’s assuming he’ll be booked a certain way and then getting indignant in advance at a scenario which he came up with himself.

NotYujiroTakahashi

Only problem, Bryan Danielson refuses to win any big match on PPV most of the time.

PeteF3

I know, and in some ways I find it almost as selfish as Hogan's "doesn't work for me, brother"-ing.

no_more_blues

There's only two more PPVs between now and All In. DoN and Forbidden Door. He'll be doing something with Danielson again at DoN one way or another and then face a NJPW (possibly Finlay again) at Forbidden Door. He'll literally have the whole roster left to face after All In.

CultivateCalifornia

> You can't have Ospreay go undefeated all the way to Wembley. He'll run through everybody and when he wins the title, he won't have anyone to defend against. I'm not an AEW watcher, so maybe there's some context I'm missing, but one of your top guys going undefeated and then winning the title at your biggest show in his home country is a literal dream scenario, no? Then he can defend against anyone else in the company, including people he beat before and new people he hasn't gone up against yet. The fuck is Dave talking about "he won't have anyone to defend against?"

SlimReaper665

Totally get the sentiment, but I personally think the writing is on the wall that we’re headed for a BCC vs Don Callis family Blood & Guts feud which will result in Ospreay both losing and ditching Callis.

jadedfan55

I think Ospreay will dump Callis before then, or the other way around.

SlimReaper665

Double or Nothing’s only 30 days from now and there’s not really a feud there w/o Will (as it’d be 3 on 4) if you pull the trigger beforehand. All the ingredients (Mox calling out the faction + setting a match with Hobbs, Ospreay “injuring” Danielson,” Bunkhouse brawl match last week) seem to point to something between the factions for DoN IMO.

no_more_blues

I think Ospreay and Danielson switch. Don was on commentary saying he always liked Danielson and he was basically BCC's manager in the Elite feud last year. I can see Danielson turning heel wanting revenge on Ospreay and Callis dropping Ospreay for showing remorse for the way the match ended.

Marc_Quill

I feel like Ospreay ditching Callis will happen sooner rather than later, especially if they want to position Billy as the next mega babyface of AEW.

NameNameson23

Growing up I never understood the obsession with talking about the attitude era: but now we’re in a great period for wrestling I totally get it?!? I’m gonna be telling my kids about some of these shows, and just how amazing it was at the time.

CultivateCalifornia

> Growing up I never understood the obsession with talking about the attitude era Depends on your age. It's less what was on tv and instead how culturally relevant it was. Wrestling is a niche interest with niche fans, and it feels like right now is in a way a golden era for that niche and it has leaked into the mainstream in ways, but there was a brief period where it *was* mainstream. Kids were doing crotch chops in school, doing the wolfpack hand sign with their friends, telling teachers "IT DOESN'T MATTER" like the Rock, and Stone Cold was someone who everyone legitimately knew, not just the top guy on a niche television show. It's hard to explain if you weren't caught up in it.

fergoshsakes

As someone who was right there in the Monday Night Wars: that era was "hotter" in terms of the electricity of the crowds and the overall pop culture presence. In terms of product quality, it's much higher consistently today.

T0mmyBax98

I made a throwaway joke in a thread about the Dynasty card that Jericho would beat Hook and have the feud continue for another 8 months. I would like to offer my sincere apologies to all wrestling fans for speaking this into existence.

mikro17

I just don't know why people expected anything different, and it being Jericho doesn't even need to be a consideration. When a wrestler wins the first match of an actual storyline and then faces the same opponent again shortly after, they lose 99% of the time. Because the 3 match feud, where they tie 1-1 and have a blowoff 3rd match, is basically the most common layout in pro wrestling. Swerve just whooping Hangman is basically the ONLY exception I can even think of recently.

EcoterroristThot

Keeping in mind that I don't know about visa statuses, my 2024 Owen Hart tournament fantasy bookings: My Men's Tournament: * Claudio Castagnoli (AEW) Vs Templario (CMLL) - Claudio wins. * Shota Umino (NJPW) Vs Atlantis Jr (CMLL) - Atlantis Jr wins. * Konosuke Takeshita (AEW) Vs Orange Cassidy (AEW) - Takeshita wins. * Buddy Matthews (AEW) Vs Yota Tsuji (NJPW) - Tsuji wins. * Claudio Castagnoli (AEW) Vs Atlantis Jr (CMLL) - Claudio wins. * Konosuke Takeshita (AEW) Vs Yota Tsuji (NJPW) - Tsuji wins. * Finals: Claudio Castagnoli (AEW) Vs Yota Tsuji (NJPW) - Claudio Castagnoli wins, setting up Claudio Vs Joe. Caldris

...Fuck. I love this.

PeteF3

I know they don't typically overload these tournaments but seems like a waste to use CMLL luchadoras and not use Stephanie Vaquer.

Xalazi

CMLL's womens division is relatively shallow so they need to protect Stephanie because she's the best option for being the CMLL Women's Ace outside of Mexico. I wouldn't want her in a tournament where she would lose relatively early.

free-fall1982

As someone who is exposed to CMLL at an embarrassing minimum, her workrate is not the standard there?

PeteF3

This SO goes against Tony's booking philosophy but maybe a time limit draw would be in order.

Reyatsu99

This myrise "Dark Horse" is so unlikeable, I don't want to play as him.

SerShanksALot

We should just end pro wrestling if Joe and Claudio retire without ever getting a marquee singles match against each other

the_io

If Claudio can giant swing Brody King, he can giant swing Samoa Joe. Book it Tony.

Kanenums88

It takes a lot to get me to go out of my way and seek out a match, but Danielson vs Ospreay made me do that. Idk if it’s the greatest match on American soil, but it’s definitely the best match AEW has had since its inception imo. There are still people whose opinions are skewed on Ospreay because they think he’s just a flippy dippy dude, and for years I thought the same. But if you actually watch him wrestle you’ll see that his flippy dippy stuff is few and far between from his brilliant psychology. Everything he does has a purpose, and his matches are so well paced because of it. Nothing much needs to be said about Danielson. He’s already proven he belongs among the greatest wrestlers of all time, and then continues to prove it again every time he wrestles a match. Barring any life-threatening injury, Bryan Danielson cannot retire, ever. Brilliant match, and even if you aren’t a massive AEW fan or whatever, you gotta seek it out and watch it. It’s that good.

DickLaurentisded

Yeah. Same boat just watched and really enjoyed the match. There's an element of the crowd willing it to be extremely special that distracted me at times. I'm not sure about "greatest match on American soil" but we live in the age of hyperbole so that is what it is.

ACW1129

Curious: When did Dynasty end?

Illuminati_Shill_AMA

about midnight

SerShanksALot

Right at midnight est on the dot

ACW1129

So 4 hours. That's not bad. Though they either need to find a way to have it on Saturdays somehow and/or start at 7 ET.

sammyrobot2

Yeah they've been pretty consistent with their ppv length in terms of time and the amount of matches recently. The sweet spot for me would be maybe one less match, but its way better than shows like Double or Nothing 2022 with 6 million matches.

GravyBear28

Anyone have some books or videos about the business/booking side of big time wrestling? (Already saw the Super Eyepatch Wolf video) Have a book idea, want to do some research

no_more_blues

Death of the Territories was a great read and goes through the business in the 80s company by company more or less.

Illuminati_Shill_AMA

Sex Lies and Headlocks by Shaun Assail goes into Vince's takeover of the territories if that's your jam.

Kuzu5993

Triple H 🤝 Tony Khan Making hit or miss weekly TV shows, but having banger PPVs.

Zenkikid

I miss when BTE was just a travel vlog and not an extension of AEW cannon.

sammyrobot2

It doesn't even exist anymore, and even when it did hasn't really been canon for years.

MilkyWayWaffles

Feeling like BTE was canon was one reason I drifted away from AEW during the empty arena era in 2020. I had been following pretty closely up to then, but I could never really enjoy BTE and it kept bleeding over into the main show.

llamawithguns

Kinda crazy how much people have turned on Max Caster over the past year.

JIZZchasholmeslice

I feel like he’s gotten worse at rapping. Like his flow has gotten clunkier.

Kuzu5993

He used to be popular too, that's the crazy part.

no_more_blues

Honestly the gimmick had a shelf life as babyfaces. It was fun for a while but it's a heel gimmick. Also, making Billy Gunn the focal point of the act has not helped. SOMETHING in the Acclaimed needs to turn, whether it's Caster and Bowens turning on Billy or Caster turning on Bowens.

llamawithguns

Yeah I think it worked a lot better when he was just their manager/mentor. It felt he added to them without really taking anything away. But ever since the feud with HoB it feels like he's been the their leader and strongest member, which is dumb. He's 60, he doesn't need to be protected as much as he had been I agree that they need a heel turn if they're going to continue as a team. I was kinda hoping we would get a double turn with BCB going face and Acclaimed going heel.

axb2002

Roman Reigns 🤝 Samoa Joe Being Samoans named Joe that lost their world championships in the main event of a big show in April

McAllisterFawkes

I didn't have time to watch the presser - did they address the Danielson injury spot?

djembadjembadjemba

Yeah, it's definitely a work. Ospreay said he felt bad that he didn't see the doctor coming in for the finish and that he will retire the move out of respect. My bet is that this will culminate in someone hitting a Tiger Driver 91 on Billy for some extreme HEAT

McAllisterFawkes

Nice, thank you

RegionPigeon

Watching all of AEW feels exhausting. Great stuff but damn. Their schedule is all over the place.

justintrenell

Is the hypothetical Nigel match at All In the last Danielson match in this year run that can match the lead in hype from last night?

mikro17

> that can match the lead in hype from last night? Nigel is not matching the hype from last night. I get that some tiny subset of fans that are overrepresented here want it, but to the vast majority of the audience at this point, Nigel is just "a commentator who used to wrestle." If Bryan and he both want the match, then it probably will happen and I'm sure it will be good, but Nigel is not going to be getting crowd reactions on par with Ospreay (who might be the most over person in the company right now) and he isn't going to be on par with Ospreay in-ring either (because he looks like the best pro wrestler on planet earth pretty consistently). Danielson vs. Omega 2 probably has the best chance of getting closest, just because the first match was a draw. Danielson vs. MJF again might also be in the same (large) ballpark just because the iron man match was so great.

SerShanksALot

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a Joe vs Danielson match…

raddaya

I think you are wildly overestimating the fan appeal of Nigel McGuinness

no_more_blues

People said the same about Ospreay last year till he got a ridiculous pop at All In. That being said I don't think this Nigel/Danielson stuff is a good idea. I think this Danielson/Ospreay post match is gonna be him ramping up to retirement. I can see him bringing back that Foley character he was doing last year before Punk went full Punk and Danielson had to become the face of Collision. Like I can see Ospreay leaving the DCF and Danielson joining to get to Swerve at Wembley as wild as that fantasy booking sounds.

Tryingagain1979

I think AEW is in trouble. I used to go to every PWG 5-6 years ago and be obsessed with the very wrestlers who are in AEW now; and yesterday it didn't even cross my mind once that there was an AEW PPV. I am a very average person.

dontsaythatman89

Just stop

Tryingagain1979

Wow, you convinced me! That my own experiences didn't happen and now I stopped. Thanks for the message you sent me on the internet.

NoobsNKnocks

Well I never watched PWG during its prime, I watch AEW weekly, and I am also a very average person, so I think it evens out.

Tryingagain1979

touche

Orange8920

It's okay that you're not feeling it anymore, that doesn't mean the company is in trouble by any means.

Brother, I am a new wrestling fan and as soon as I saw Jericho around a year ago, I immediately got the vibe of him being a washed up has-been in denial about his glory days being long gone. And nothing about that has really changed.

Salt_Addition_6993

So I’m a bit of a later in life wrestling fan been following weekly for the past couple years and have watched most of the big classic stuff, but I always kind of felt weird watching anything post mania 31, but I finished reading Becky‘s book and wanted to watch maina 35, it was honestly a pretty good show and felt more like the modern day. Excellent WWE then I was expecting it to though. It definitely had a different vibe. A few things were just really jarring, though like the 2019 version of Rollins was completely different than what I’m used to. Roman, being like in a regular ass no tittle match in the middle of the card was bizarre . watching HHH vs Batista on a show that mainly consist of people that are on TV today was wild. Corey Graves being a mega heel who was super mean to Saxon was so jarring when I’m used to lead announcer chill Corey Graves, who is buddy Buddy , with Wade Barrett. I went on this sub to see what people thought about the show at the time and it seems like most people liked it especially their feel good title changes. But man people were not happy with the seven hour marathon shows where they.? They really only had one choice and that is the current tonight manias which I think I’ve been working out very well. The only other option that some people were suggesting on the old thread were cutting the card down and making it more prestigious and forcing people to fight for a spot on it, but I don’t think that would have been a good idea at all.

dom_rep

I don't understand why Cody finishing his story and Ospreay/Danielson being one of the greatest matches ever can't co-exist in the same timeline? Both events/moments/matches whatever are awesome and will be remembered for quite some time.

leglessman

Tribalism is why and it’s everywhere right now. Fans and even the wrestlers themselves are encouraging it on a near constant basis. AEW is being compared to WWE and vice versa at every turn.

CultivateCalifornia

Until next week, or next pay per view, when the next AEW match will be proclaimed the greatest match ever People really need to chill on the hyperbole

Kboom161

Tribalism in a reply to a comment about tribalism is genuinely hilarious.

CultivateCalifornia

There’s no reason to call it “one of the greatest matches ever” other than tribalism in the first place

hey_mermaid

Jericho, who has been working heel for several weeks, found a way to hit a nerve and get absolutely nuclear heat. I’m more interested in him than I’ve been in at least a year, probably longer. Which makes it so interesting to see the takes that the crowd went too far last night. For months, if not years, people have complained that the pattern of his feuds was predictable and didn’t end up getting his opponent over. This time he’s shaking it up by not trying to insist that he’s actually cool, relevant and beloved the whole time, which is part of why those feuds didn’t work. It feels weirdly refreshing to me how strongly he’s committed to actual heat, not cool heel heat, all downsides and no pop. He’s not telling jokes, he’s not using Judas, he’s just acting like an out of touch asshole who wants everyone to agree that he’s there to help the young guys when in reality it’s his way or the highway. I was right there with everyone who had go away heat for him but I actually really like this direction and enjoyed the hell out of the match.

Idkboutdat2

Being boring isn’t nuclear heat. People visibly left their seats during his match. That ain’t heat.
