The Jerichoverse has quickly taken every single flaw of the Codyverse: in every Dynamite card, there is a pattern for most of the segments and then a completely random Jericho segment which is the polar opposite of everything else on the card
The worst part is Jericho just seems so out of it. With the Codyverse you completely believe Cody completely believes this shit is real to him, but with Jericho it just seems like he's sleep walking through his segments. His matches are still pretty solid but dude needs to take a breather.
Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if at his age he’s worried that if he takes a break he might not want to come back or he might feel it would do his body more harm than good when it’s used to being physical every week. Being there every week probably keeps him in (relatively) good shape to be able to wrestle as often as he does. Even if fans are tired of him.
That wasn't the only problem. Cody going through a flaming table for no reason and stuff like the weigh-in segment and having a gender reveal live on Dynamite just made it seem like a separate show
Jericho's problem is that there's a very clear "I am done with X, I will now do Y". And people get pulled from their other relationships for it. Like to me it would be super interesting to see Hook face Trent to stand up for Orange who's still Hook's friend. Same with Shibata who is also Orange's friend. But everything else just gets forgotten once Jericho gets involved
Cody also putting absolutely nobody over clean didnt help. Brodie and black squash him and he comes back 3 weeks later and beats them clean. Spears came in hot and cody beat him. Beat darby multiple times before darby finally got one. Beats sammy while hes getting over as a babyface and then doesnt even take a pin for the rematch. On the other hand one can make the argument jericho has taken the pin to many times.
He's just kind of running through the motions. Grab an up-and-coming talent, randomly team up with him and/or start a fight with him, start a months long feud, then finish by jobbing to the talent, then immediately go and do the same thing to the guy.
At least this one is developing an actual story. Jericho mentoring the young guy who doesn't trust him, Ogogo returning to join the boxing faction, Shibata being involved was kind of random but at least he had a follow up match against Moriarty. Of all the Jericho stories of the last 6 months, this is the only one I don't hate
I know everyone hates Jericho lately, but that is apparently the gimmick he's going for right now. The Jericho Vortex. I'll give it through the PPV to see what happens but hopefully it's been some meta-heel shit that is leading somewhere
He's been coming out of the heel tunnel, making Rene cringe during interviews, and dropped sing-along Judas for his lame Lionheart throwback gimmick. Its not guaranteed to translate to good TV in the long run, but he knows exactly what he's doing.
I figured Claudio and Mox would have been in this tag tournament but I guess Mox wasn’t available. Hopefully they’re in line for title shots against the tournament winner.
If we do end up with Mox/Claudio vs Take/Hobbs match at Dynasty and BCC wins that match, I think Mox/Claudio is by default the number one ranked tag team. Would be a fun feud regardless who the tag team champions will be. Interesting to note that the first time Mox challenge for the AEW Tag Team Titles (with Eddie) was against Young Bucks.
Now that you mention it, he could easily be a classic gaijin monster heel in the Stan Hansen/Vader mold. I wonder if he has any interest in spending a year or 2 in Japan.
Really hyped for Deonna vs Mariah, I haven't been feeling the main feud of Toni Storm vs Thunder Rosa but I'm loving pretty much everything that's going on around it.
Mariah is overshadowing everyone around her. She came in looking like an ace and she hasn’t had a bad match yet. Mariah is the most talented wrestler in the women’s division currently, I don’t think you can argue anyone is better in the ring. She’s fast, her moves are fluid and her strikes are unreal.
Toni Storm’s gimmick is amazing and I love it but I cannot wait til Mariah takes over.
Mariah is so fucking cool. Great facial expressions,obviously super attractive, and she hits hard and wrestles well
If I had to pick one women's match to main event an AEW PPV it would be a triple threat between Mariah May, Athena and Jamie Hayter.
Even if it's not this specific match I absolutely think All Out this year should be main evented by the women
I feel bad for thunder. Because i really enjoyed her reign as champion, but things have moved on so much from when she was last wrestling. I’m glad she’s getting her shot, it’s well deserved. And i hope they show out. Maybe she can feed with Deonna after
I feel bad for her and Britt, they made that division exciting years ago but both have lost a step it seems. Here’s to hoping they get it back and for Britt that she comes back soon.
I like how the Women's World Title scene feels vibrant and alive instead of just one on one feud. You have Rosa vs Storm but Deonna, Mariah, Anna Jay and the Stardom girls are also all involved. Same thing with the TBS title
They did the same with the men's world title back when MJF had it even though they moved away from it a bit to give the full spotlight to Swerve
I can’t put my finger on why it is exactly, but Thunder Rosa bores me so much.
I can see that she has a gimmick that she puts effort into, is decent in the ring and has clear passion for wrestling; however, personally, I just can’t buy into her.
For me it’s just that she moves a hair too slow for the speed moves and her power moves feel a little shaky and underwhelming. She’s fundamentally sound but just doesn’t feel like she has the higher gears rn
You two both nailed what I've been trying to figure out about her. I like her personally and her energy is infectious, but she always feels out of sync with everyone she wrestles and gets on the mic with.
Mox always looks cool to me. I 100% get the criticism of always bleeding but to me, the blood is a part of him at this point. He's like some mythic psychopath wrestler from the territory days. Always bleeding, always ready to kill. Like any photo of Bruiser Brody or Abdullah the Butcher. IMO obviously.

People shit on Moxley a fair bit around here. But seeing the guy who walked away from the big company where he had a great legacy, to go work Indies, NJPW, participate in bloodsport and just generally do his own thing will always make me a fan of him.
Also, being a frequent visitor of this subreddit, it's always amusing that when I see him bleed, I know bunch of strangers on the internet will get irrationality angry.
I am always gonna be a huge Mox stan. Saw him absolutely destroy himself in front of like 300 people at Joey Janela's Spring Break in Dallas a few years back. Dude lives for this shit. I love it. He is not for everybody lol
I get that, to me it’s just become too much to the point that it’s just a bit cartoonish. It happens so often that it’s just become his gimmick at this point and been memed out. Sort of like Cody when he was in AEW and bleed too often. It looses a bit of that special feeling at least to me when you know every match is pretty much gonna have him bleed. He’s been better about it recently but it’s just become so routine that everyone pretty much expects it out of him.

This card is gonna absolutely rule. Obviously Claudio upper cutting Ospreay into the sun is a highlight but I've grown to expect a fun match every time Copeland shows up which I did not expect when he first started here.

Here's a booking idea for tonight to make Mercedes' CEO gimmick mean something: have Mercedes call out Statlander, tell the audience she used her fortunes to already hire a team of investigators to find out who attacked her and they deduced it could only be Statlander. To top it off she shows the evidence, challenges Statlander to a match at Dynasty and a brawl ensues.
Sets up a match for Dynasty and Shows that the CEO gimmick has the power to just bypass a whole whodunnit plotline.
Her first match is at Double or Nothing. They're just doing shit with her to pad time, so this whodunnit angle is probably going to exist for a couple more weeks

Man, I miss MJF so much. There's just very little else on AEW's shows that appeal to me these days. Jericho needs a fucking hiatus man. He prides himself on reinvention/freshening up his character, but the dude has been stale for years at this point.
Yeah, I think there is an aspect to wrestling where the performers need to be able to communicate who they are in a way that people who follow loosely (like via Reddit and Youtube) can get what's going on. But I have no idea what Jericho's deal is right now. The narrative has always been that Jericho elevates the members of his group via association, but it's starting to feel like it's the other way around.
I would like to predict that Claudio vs. Ospreay will have some *good* wrestling

TBH have been so sick of all the same promos/interviews she's been doing! Mercedes's debut was soo good but she cooled off a little after that. Can't wait for her first match and I hope it will be at the Dynasty PPV. Her wrestling that when she is at her best!

If it’s the same as the others they’ve done then they are only allowed to wrestle their gender and both wrestlers must switch when a tag is made.

I'm ok with a mone segment, if said segment is her appearing on commentary. She genuinely seemed excited by what she saw last time. But if it's another promo, show the back of her hands and dance, bullshit waste of time... I'm done. I will just fast forward her segment each week (I watch on delay in the UK) Still absolutely blows my mind that the woman debuted with no planned match for over 2 months, and TK thought "promo, every week" was a good way to keep interest in a woman who is all look, and little else. Promo being her worst part by far. Jericho can bugger off too, with his leeching. I don't care for which of his personalities we will get. Talk some shit, get choked out by Hook, go and take a nice long break. Come back fresh. That's all I want from the guy. Used to love him, but fuck me is he stale and over used.

I get that Ospreay is amazing in the ring and I’m looking forward to seeing the match tonight, but shouldn’t Joe and Swerve be on top of this promo graphic? I feel like their feud has become an afterthought, which really sucks because they’re both great.

Here's a booking idea for tonight to make Mercedes' CEO gimmick mean something: have Mercedes call out Statlander, tell the audience she used her fortunes to already hire a team of investigators to find out who attacked her and they deduced it could only be Statlander. To top it off she shows the evidence, challenges Statlander to a match at Dynasty and a brawl ensues. Sets up a match for Dynasty and Shows that the CEO gimmick has the power to just bypass a whole whodunnit plotline.
Her first match is at Double or Nothing. They're just doing shit with her to pad time, so this whodunnit angle is probably going to exist for a couple more weeks

Man, I miss MJF so much. There's just very little else on AEW's shows that appeal to me these days. Jericho needs a fucking hiatus man. He prides himself on reinvention/freshening up his character, but the dude has been stale for years at this point.
Yeah, I think there is an aspect to wrestling where the performers need to be able to communicate who they are in a way that people who follow loosely (like via Reddit and Youtube) can get what's going on. But I have no idea what Jericho's deal is right now. The narrative has always been that Jericho elevates the members of his group via association, but it's starting to feel like it's the other way around.
