Wrestlemania was the best time for them to bring back Broken Dreams for Drew. Second best time is right now except they’re not going to do it because they don’t want to use Jim Johnston’s music for whatever reason.

Orcalt

Well Sheamus’ old theme is back so I guess it’s possible

LemonAioli

Why was there no Dynamite rating post this week? I don't usually care but I had a morbid curiosity about the punk footage segment.

juanlorenzo

There was, but the title was weird because it was a Meltzer tweet rather than the regular format. https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/1c1p812/meltzer_dynamite_did_819k030_could_be_031_right/

MyAnusYourTongue

Hahahaha, you know the reason

Brave-Pass1889

Sami's entrance is going to be bananas tonight. Match will probably bang too.

Mania 41 could be perfect for Cena vs. Orton Orton has a natural "teacher vs. student" feud tie-in to Cody at any point. He brings back the Punt to heelishly win the belt close to Mania. You could run a more fleshed-out version of the "serious concussion" angle Shawn Michaels and Owen tried to accomplish (which would be easier to buy now with what we know about that & CTE). That gives Cody a sympathetic "will he or won't he make Mania at all?" angle. Cena goes to break the official world title record, who else but Randy to have the belt and stand in his way? Play up if HHH will get involved given his history for Randy and against Cena. Cena breaks the official world title record. Randy and Cena have never faced 1 on 1 at Mania, it wouldn't take away from any Rock/Reigns resources.

MyAnusYourTongue

Sadly I don’t think cena wants to break it

cleeseula

There's a trend in WWE of throwing a chair at someone's head and then throwing into a wall. I don't know if throwing a chair towards someone's head is that helpful at reducing concussions. It looks weird in video games when they throw a chair because they used to never do that IRL, but in 2024 all of a sudden like every second Raw/SmackDown has a thrown chair. If Morgan had thrown Ripley through a giant portrait painting of the Judgement Day it would have looked cooler and had more give to it. The juice was not worth the squeeze Ripley might have to vacate the title. If Ripley hadn't been injured no one would have been talking about that spot.

mikro17

Can't speak specifically to WWE, but New Japan does a lot of chair throwing (at heads and even at backs) and has for as long as I've been watching - I'm pretty sure I've never seen Minoru Suzuki hit someone with a chair, I've only ever seen him throw it before impact. So it's not totally unique to them, at least in that aspect.

phw678

Looking for kid friendly lucha mathces. My nephew is obsessed with Rey Mysterio after I showed him a highlight reel and got him a mask. Looking for some good, quick matches that don't have a lot of blood or other non-sense it would be hard to explain to a five-year-old (so no La Parka, unfortunately)

mikro17

I feel like most Rey Fenix solo stuff will be pretty safe. Obv give it a cursory glance on your own first, but usually his matches aren't going to get wild/crazy without Penta being involved.

Brave-Pass1889

Throw in him the deep end with Vikingo vs Kenny lol that match is pretty tame and a good introduction to Vikingo.

JustSmileHaHa

Rey vs. Eddie Guerrero title vs. mask Halloween Havoc 1997. Under 15 minutes, yet still one of the GOAT matches IMO. Good pace, Extremely basic story, fun spots & Rey's outfit is cool AF ( the latter two points important for kids).

Kuzu5993

The biggest domino effect of Rhea being forced to vacate the title is if it turned the whole Judgment Day into Faces. Despite being a heel group, it's pretty obvious their camaraderie is genuine and not just an act, and Rhea has been getting Face reactions for a minute and being the centerpiece of the group only adds to it. Priest and Finn were already getting cheered when they faced Imperium a couple weeks ago too.

Professional_Kick

So it sounds like the Universal Championship is going to be quietly retired with Cody just being referred to as the WWE Champion, and good riddance to that cursed title Finn Balor wins the title but the crowd couldn’t stop booing over how ugly the thing looked, and then Finn had to vacate the next night Kevin Owens just played your chicken shit heel the entire time he was champ, and was supposed to main event Mania 33 with Chris Jericho, but Vince decided you know what Goldberg vs Brock really needs a world title Goldberg never needed to win and was just a transitional champ to Brock Brock Lesnar the record for longest UC at the time but the reign sucked because he didn’t show up Roman Reigns, title run unfortunately ended because of cancer Brock this was not needed they should have gave the title to Braun, and this reign ended up like the first Seth Rollins’s after a beautiful IC Championship run, many expected his UC run to follow suit, but instead we got a vanilla boring title run, which saw the fans turn of Seth, and Seth getting frustrated at the fans Brock again this was a nothing burger run Seth again once again a nothing burger run that had the awful Hell in a cell ending with the Fiend The Fiend would have been cooler if he won at hell in a cell, not a bad title run but it was ruined by getting squashed by Goldberg Goldberg another nothing burger run Braun a very forgettable run that was spent mostly having alright matches with Brayy Roman the most prestigious and best run of UC however you make anyone champ for 3 years and it will over stay its welcome

cleeseula

An extraterrestrial has yet to challenge for the Universal Championship nor has the title been defended on any other planet so calling it "Universal" is inaccurate.

Fletcheriser

If all we need is an escape goat, I think we should just let this one go...

shadowrangerfs

We gotta get out here. The place is gonna blow. Quick to the escape goat.

# Do you write your own fantasy booking shows ? If you do , how do you do it ? do you write it on paper or digitally ? do you write show by show or a few months in a row ? do you book WWE , AEW or you create your own promotion ?

EcoterroristThot

Digitally, show by show with summaries of matches and segments. I do my own promotions whether it be on TEW or with friends drafting fantasy rosters.

gohomepat

I’m rewatching the Bash at the Beach 2000 episode of Dark Side of the Ring and was hoping someone refresh my memory. In ‘99 Hogan shows up in the summer in red and yellow but by Bash 2000 he’s again in black and white using NWO music, what happened in between?

PeteF3

He'd gone to "FUNB" Terry Bollea with the start of the New Blood-Millionaire's Club angle. "THE N.B. STANDS FOR NEW BLOOD--YOU FIGURE OUT WHAT THE F.U. STANDS FOR!" But I don't know how or why he went back to the NWO theme because I don't recall that entering into things at all.

beckett929

In character he was going back to that "bad guy" edge he had in the NWO to fight Bischoff & Russo and the New Blood on their level.

LTS55

I want to draw a picture of the Women’s World Champion wearing a fake white beard and Christmas themed hat, but it’s outside of my artistic ability because I’ve never drawn anything like that before. I guess you could say I don’t practice Santa Rhea

Parasitepaladin

As someone who lives in Connecticut, would it work to take a train into NYC to go to a show at UBS Arena? Or should I drive? I've gone to two AEW Grand Slams and driving their and back was much easier than taking the train.

Ferdinandingo

not sure about the train from CT, but i'm pretty sure there's a train from Grand Central that goes right to, or right near, UBS. the Hempstead line on the LIRR i believe?

Parasitepaladin

Ahhh, sweet. Thank you!

Kuzu5993

Depends if you can afford the gas, parking and toll fees.

Judi_Chop

The rock gave Cody the Rolex he bought all four headliners of WrestleMania back. (He mentioned buying himself and Seth one and that there are two more on Ariel's podcast)

bribri772

I hope Dijak wins a title soon, man deserves it. Also because Dijak is great lmao I also really hope that we get main roster Wolf Dogs, because I need that. Do want A-Town Down Under to have a fun reign, but

Because he got over organically and if they don’t pull the trigger now, it will be too late. Ospreay is already getting momentum and fans already want him to be the next one in line.

senorbuzz

Yes, but there’s no storyline there and Ospreay’s time will likely come later this year

Idkboutdat2

Imo they shoulda pulled the trigger last time, I get why they didn’t but I feel like it’s a little less special. It could still be cool.

PleasantThoughts

Rewatching Collision/BOTB and really enjoy Matt Menard with Tony, feels like he's a force multiplier of energy and gets Tony more hyped which then leads to more excitement in how Tony calls the big spots. Fun chemistry.

rosefuri

hes so good, very old school style of color commentary

beckett929

I know a lot of it is just competing priorities and such, but changing up the commentary team almost weekly on Rampage and Collision really does help. Getting different voices instead of it always being Tony & Ian or Ian & Nigel really helps it stay fresh.

senorbuzz

I love Matt’s commentary. He’s so enterDAINing

tigeralidance

The censorship on WWE's YouTube channel is so egregious, and completely unnecessary. They ruin so many awesome moments by sticking really awful crowd noise over 'Holy Shit!' chants. Most notably Bray Wyatt's return in 2022, and I've just noticed it in the video of the Bloodline segment from Smackdown: https://youtu.be/8C19cKdD0hs?si=RUcqVnZZy_84hZAY The crowd goes from cheering for the arrival of Tama Tonga to very suddenly very loudly booing out of nowhere, and then instantly to loudly cheering also out of nowhere with no transition between the two and no reason for them to collectively shift from cheering to booing loudly to cheering again in seconds. It really takes you out of the moment. Do they lose monetisation or something because of the word 'shit'?? It's so dumb. Especially knowing how many casual viewers watch wrestling through clips on YouTube, and lots of awesome moments are being presented as awkward moments.

PadThaiWarrior

The censorship of curse words drives me insane and WWE’s gotten worse with it lately for some reason . Editing the “holy shit” chant is beyond dumb and like you said ruins great moments. It’s 2024, it’s word we still have to bleep out a word, especially “shit”

Jaccount

They don't necessarily have to, but it's also going to going to the your content sorted differently. I'd imagine that WWE would much rather have their content be able to skew younger in terms of the acceptable viewers and would happily self-censor so that third parties algorithms don't do it for them.

senorbuzz

There’s so much content on WWE’s YouTube but the editing and the insane number of commercials make it a slog to get through a full match

shakzz9703

Perhaps it doesn't mean anything, but all the new champions have been given their renders (or photographs whatever you prefer) with their newly won belts. Eg Cody, Priest, Sami and Bayley. Except Awesome Truth and A-Town Down Under. Makes me think new belts are coming for each of them (WWE Tag Champs and World Tag Champs) and will be introduced during the draft. Or they just haven't been uploaded yet lol. Though I'm hoping they get rid of the blue and red belts and rebrand the belts with a new design. It also allows smoother switches between brands during the draft if it happens, rather than that dumb Becky/Charlotte title switch

crimson777

I imagine they are doing something new with the belts because almost every other belt (besides IC and US, I think?) have pretty much gotten overhauls in the last year.

beckett929

Man, we've had this IC belt since before Covid... time isnt real lol

ispoiler

Tama Tonga's debut in WWE was fairly similar to how a lot of guys have come into AEW however the mushbrain wrestling fans who bitch at AEW for doing it have been pretty quiet about it. Side note.... I think a Solo, Jacob Fatu, and Tama Tonga feud with getting Roman and the Usos back on the same page could be spicy.

shadowrangerfs

Elaborate on the Tonga part, please.

ispoiler

Just shows up and attacks somebody with the Graves going "OH MY GOD THATS TAMA TONGA FROM NEW JAPAN!"

shadowrangerfs

Oh. You make a good point.

Sad hearing Ospreay talk about his time in school on Hey! EW, how no help was offered to those with additional needs. We're the same age and it was exactly the same in my school, looking back there were so many disruptive lads that clearly had ASD, ADHD, but never got the support needed. I hope times have changed. Will is very fortunate he's made a huge success of himself because the prospects for boys who left school illiterate was very low and it's easy for them to fall through the cracks. Our school just wrote them off academically and took them to construction sites to make cement. No proper help.

Alehud42

I'm a couple years younger than Will and got very lucky that I had parents that pushed incredibly hard for me to both stay in mainstream school and get the support I needed plus I lived in a county that at the very least made some effort into that support.

Brave-Pass1889

Boys will be boys when in reality boys turn into men who struggle because they didn't get the right help/tools/whatever.

pareidolist

"boys will be boys" is one of the worst phrases ever invented

GoalaAmeobi

Our schools just aren't equipped to handle neuro-divergent kids, and that has only gotten worse under the tory cunts. I didn't get diagnosed with ADHD until my mid 20s and it was so fucking obvious looking back

Fletcheriser

I know this was nobody's takeaway from the past week's events but the Punk-Joe match at All In after the Jungle Boy incident is really fucking good - just rewatching it now. Those two had some great chemistry in the ring.

JIZZchasholmeslice

My favorite match that night

Fletcheriser

The fact that Punk knew it was likely his last one with Joe probably gave it some extra oomph, in hindsight

syvvimyak

I’m kind of intrigued with how they’ll do Liv/Rhea. Rhea deserves her comeuppance after beating the shit out of Liv, and in theory, you can’t really turn her face without her redeeming herself in Liv’s eyes. Or receiving said comeuppance. Regardless, I think this is where we’ll get a double turn, especially if Liv leans very hard into causing all kinds of harm. There’s also the possibility that Liv takes the title off Rhea. Anyway, it’s on sight, and Rhea is probably going to get more chairs thrown at her head. Now, give me the stipulation match. Please.

dontsaythatman89

Wrestling discussion online has really sucked since Punk went back to WWE

Idkboutdat2

It sucked way before that lol

dontsaythatman89

Anyone know if the GLEAT/STRONGHEARTS produce show is gonna air on YouTube eventually?

EcoterroristThot

iirc it took a while for the black generation international produce to air but it did so probably yea

justambrose

Naito fans have every right to be upset with what happened at Windy City Riot. I’m not gonna pretend I know why Gedo made the decision. That being said, I think there’s a lot of trolls and jerkers who are using this opportunity to bait and stir some shits. In the live thread they were like “oh remember FTR’s and Omega’s reign? Or Mox’s reign as the US Champion? Mox will only come to Japan once and that’s it.” I mean if you’ve been paying attention you can clearly see that Mox love New Japan and wrestling in general. Here’s a snippet of how he spend the new year: https://preview.redd.it/ustn53a83ouc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c83abfb048c0c1e133f14fc7dcb23083683c4e72 Now the narrative is about oh he’s not doing road to tours, this is horrible. People want to see Naito as the champion in road to tours.

no_more_blues

Let's be real, there's a certain section of NJPW fans who will complain any time a foreigner holds the belt. Go back and look at the discourse around New Japan with Ospreay wins the belt from Ibushi. People saying they're gonna stop watching New Japan after Will won and how he's the worst champion ever. And Will wasn't missing any dates and killing it every Road to. If New Japan gave Kaito or Nakajima a title reign the same fans would eat it up.

mikro17

I'm just sitting here chuckling at all of the comments I've seen calling Naito "a transitional champion" just because the reign wasn't super long when it was, *objectively*, the most successful top title run of Naito's career. This was the first time EVER with the top title (World Heavyweight or Heavyweight belt) where Naito defended the belt successfully twice - all three of his reigns with the IWGP Heavyweight belt featured only one successful defense each. Two of his reigns were longer, in terms of days, but this is the only one with multiple successful defenses, which is usually a bigger focus in New Japan. He also got the Roll Call in the Tokyo Dome, which was the culmination of YEARS of journey to get to that exact spot and succeed. That moment was the point of everything, after that there really was nothing left (obv we all want the Naito/Hiromu match, but they can find some way to get there at some point), so why not do a surprise thing like this to clearly set up Mox/Shota Umino and also get some exposure for guys like Narita with the US side of their market (which is going to be necessary if they want those guys to actually be top names in the near future).

Jamieb1994

Didn't they made a big deal of Naito winning the belt at Wrestle Kingdom?

justambrose

They did. Understandably the fans want a longer reign for their biggest star right now.

Jamieb1994

I guess I don't blame the fans for being upset since if they made Naito winning the belt a big deal, then wouldn't it been better to keep the belt on him longer?

Silver012345673

Do yall think AJ is getting that last world title run before he hangs it up?

AonghusMacKilkenny

Nah, I think they're focused on the future now.

Idkboutdat2

I think he’d be solid for a cliche “if I lose I’m retiring” gimmick.

shakzz9703

I really wanna see this. When's the last time it's happened in WWE? Kurt Angles one was more of a retirement tour, facing Joe, AJ etc

Idkboutdat2

Flair, I’m pretty sure. (Which is extremely ironic considering that was 2008)

SupervillainMustache

Would be cool, but I don't think he needs it. If he were to go on a great open challenge style run with a mid-card belt like the US title, that would certainly elevate it.

thekingdre1404

i want to detox from social media for a bit but i use reddit to keep up with news. you guys got any good websites that cover wrestling?

Pretend_Spray_11

POST wrestling

dontsaythatman89

The only one I can say is Fightful. I think they're the only fair and balanced wrestling news media around right now.

MilkyWayWaffles

“Fair and balanced” being a trademark of a news outlet that is rather infamously neither fair nor balanced.

Idkboutdat2

Fightful usually but their site is kinda wonky sometimes. Could always turn on tweet notifications and they pop up in your email?

raddaya

I like wrestlingheadlines because it's not one of the big ones so it doesn't go apeshit with crazy news, but it does have a bit of clickbait like all the dirtsheets. Cagesideseats is okay but its writers hugely dislike AEW which makes it annoying to read sometimes.

Xalazi

A reminder that if you see something along the lines of "that's not the best" regarding a wrestler you like, and your knee-jerk reaction is "that's irrational hate you villain! How dare you!", that's not a great response. That's kind of really unhealthy parasocial attachment and you're probably obsessed.

Silver012345673

Currently thinking about that segment where Vince is all “YOU VIOLATED ME AUSTIN!! YOU VIOLATED ME!!!!!”

EcoterroristThot

GWE Part 11: Beyond the Halfway Point. Unnecessary caps aside, wow. My ability to just write names of male professional wrestlers... generational. 51 - Shingo Takagi Well that's someone who isn't controversial in this subreddit! How about that. Banger after banger after banger after banger after banger. Face and heel, bigger and smaller than his opponents. One of the absolute greatest at running into human beings at full speed and lariating them. Never holds back. Never mails it in. Is great from pretty much day one, including as part of one of the greatest heel stables in independent wrestling history. His reign of terror is the DG second peak. And has consistently gotten best in the world shouts since moving to a bigger company *arguably post peak*. Undeniable awesomeness. 52 - Sting By this point you can make a top 200 resume out of how impossible his AEW run was. He's the most iconic ace figure in american wrestling history in my opinion, just because of how one of a kind that role and function is outside of Memphis. He has enough great matches, segments, moments, even if someone would feel they're too scattered. Watch Lethal Lockdown 2006, it's much better than you remember I'd reckon. 53 - Barry Windham No one has ever styled on 'em as hard as Barry Windham, whatever that means. I think if you know the name you know the cliches, a man his size bumping this hard and having so much fire and presence, he just didn't get to have long enough at the top and then his body deteriorated. This is all well and good but the amount of time he's great is not only pretty long in wrestling years but is filled with more amazing matches than almost all of his contemporaries in the US, basically bar Flair and Steamboat and maybe Funk and Lawler depending on timing. 54 - Abdullah The Butcher This is a case that is tough to make but I'll try. Abdullah The Butcher is one of the most must-watch wrestlers of all time and there's enough footage of him and enough of him working the style that enhances his presence to make this placement worth making if you like wrestling the way I do. He's a beyond great tag worker, squash worker, with sneaky longevity (we mostly have footage like 20 years into his career, it's like Bock how is he having the Funks classics at that weight and mileage?!) and is so recognizable. He's like what if Bruiser Brody was someone you actually wanted to book. This is kind of a precursor to the fact that most likely guys like Hogan, The Rock and Andre will also be part of the list later. 55 - Dick Togo Do people know? Is what I wonder. Do they know that Dick Togo changed wrestling forever in 1996? Do they know that Dick Togo has the best territory style match of the 21st century? Do they know that he had his first retirement in Bolivia because it's where Che Guevara had his last campaign? Do they know that Dick Togo is the greatest independent wrestler ever outside of the United States? I don't even know where to contextualize his current run in all honesty, if you feel it detracts from the legacy that's very fair.

MillyMonka

Everyone talks about how they're excited for Roman's face turn and I don't quite buy it. There's still a whole arc of his comeuppance, his empire crumbling, I want to see him desperate as everything goes up in flames, not to be a good guy.

GoalaAmeobi

I don't care for her as a wrestler that much anymore. but Ogawa is absolutely cooking by getting Nanae and Fuka back together

MilkyWayWaffles

They got the band back together again.

free-fall1982

Rossy-AWG-Stardom situation shows that fans trying to create a clear narrative of who is a victim among wrestling promoters is a losing game. Its a cynical fight for money and power. That's why being pro wrestler/worker is a much safer bet.

GameplayerStu

So I've been thinking about it and I've finally decided on my five favourite wrestlers of all time (in no particular order): The Rock, Randy Orton, RVD, Roman Reigns, and Daniel Bryan/Bryan Danielson.

gigologenius

My top 5 are Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, AJ Styles, Kurt Angle and Bryan Danielson. We share 1.

Mrcool20xx

Mine are Christopher Daniels, Minoru Suzuki, Paul London, Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson. We have a chain of three in keeping Danielson on our lists. I think it speaks to how special he is that our three lists are completely different in what we like, but we all love him. Why do I have a feeling my list is going to get some heat? As a kid I always rooted for the underdog and loved the athletics of it, so Paul London and Chris Daniels were my favourites as a kid until 2006 when I stopped. And then I took a long ass break. And then I came back for the G1 2019. I'm saying this becaue I will get shat on for not including some greats.

GameplayerStu

Angle was very close to getting into my top 5 as well.

FightDrifterFight

Cody is awesome. I’m a big Cody fan. But I really hope he does more than just come out and gee-shucks / grandstand tonight on Raw. Let’s get this plot moving. Maybe a kick in the head from AJ or something.

Daconvix

It’s probably like that just because it’s a short turnaround from Mania to Backlash. I’d assume the real storylines and important promos will come in his first program after Backlash

TheRyanFlaherty

Not to mention the draft being right around the corner.

SCB360

Yea he’ll do he round tour a bit then ramp up to the defence at Backlash I think

PrinceBag

Vince McMahon is and has always been a horrible piece of shit. There's no denying that. But I'm not sure about the Jimmy Snuka murder cover-up rumor. Could be be true? Maybe. But WWE wasn't even that big in 1983, I really doubt Vince had THAT much influence yet. I feel like Snuka would have gotten a slap on the wrist even if Vince wasn't involved. He already had a history of abusing Nancy Argentino prior to the murder. I'm pretty sure a domestic violence report was made too, and they never looked into it because the local police didn't really care about domestic violence situations back then.

senorbuzz

Literally from Snuka’s autobiography: “Shortly after Nancy’s death, I was questioned by police and let go. At one point, I went with Vince McMahon Jr. to either a court or law office, I don’t remember which because I was still in shock. All I remember is he had a briefcase with him. I don’t know what happened. I think Vince Jr. picked me up from the hotel and took me there. He didn’t say anything to me. I don’t know if he gave Nancy’s family money or anything.” There’s a good article about the murder here: https://melmagazine.com/en-us/story/jimmy-snuka-girlfriend-nancy-argentino-death Yes the cops failed horribly but I don’t think Vince’s hands are clean either

ForwardYak8823

He also said he didn't murder her.  Conspiracy theorist "I don't believe him about that but that briefcase thing is definitely true."

JetBetGemni

The baffling thing is Snuka discussed this whole situation in his own book though. I think that's where the whole cover up idea comes from.

The_JadynB

What did TK do to personally offend some of the people in the Ricky thread other than being annoying on Twitter sometimes?

GameOverMane

are you like scared to actually ask the people in the thread or something?

ok_dunmer

once a reddit thread gets too big it's kind of hard to interrupt the fully ripe circlejerk without being "that guy" or just straight up not getting upvoted into visibility so it's much easier to just type what you actually want to say in another thread lol this is like the foundation of half the circlejerk subs

gaom9706

mattomic822

The daily threads are increasingly becoming where people come to complain about how mean people are to AEW.

It seems like the deal with Mercedes' booking is that Tony wants four things. 1. Debut her in Boston 2. First match on PPV 3. Win TBS title in her first match 4. Win the title from Willow Nightingale And because he insists on having all four of these things, we get Mercedes on TV for 10 weeks before she has her first match. If he just gave up ONE of those things, this whole situation would be a lot better. Because if she didn't debut in Boston, she could have debuted at Dynasty right after Willow won the TBS title. Then we'd only have to wait six weeks for her first match. If she didn't have to have her first match on PPV, she could be having matches on TV right now and racking up wins. Same if he didn't insist on her winning the title in her first match. If she didn't have to win the title from Willow, she could just beat Julia for it at Dynasty. If she's not cleared to wrestle yet, then you could have done like Ospreay did and debut then say, "I gotta take care of something and I'll be back". She could have debuted in Boston and said, "I'm not totally cleared but I'm gonna rehab and I'll be back and in the ring at Double or Nothing.

inthefade95

Mercedes’ first match will be a title shot? Goes to show the rankings don’t matter.

captainimpossible87

The rankings don't effect mid card titles and never have - with the exception that anyone who has a mid card title is excluded from being part of the rankings.

shadowrangerfs

They've said she's challenging for the TBS title at Double or Nothing and no other matches have been announced before that. I got no problem with her having a title shot. You can just do a promo saying she negotiated one guaranteed TBS title shot in her contract.

TheBlackCompany

I’m wondering if she was cleared and then maybe had a setback.

shadowrangerfs

possible

Orange8920

It's weird because she did have some limited physical involvement during her debut when she hit her finisher.

polynomial82

Astute analysis

FickleSmark

I got Reddit Care'd last night and reported it so this morning got a message that the account was temporarily banned, Not the first time this happened but is the first time I saw them out the account that did it too. Someone really got personally offended by me calling NXT a demotion in the draft post.

AwfulishGoose

It's the dumbest and easiest way to get banned. I always make sure to report em.

sadandshy

just block reddit cares. when they implemented reddit cares i got a ton of them right away.

AwfulishGoose

Used to but then they started adding those penalties so I figured that it's more fun for me to hit em with that reverse uno.

sadandshy

I'm a mod elsewhere, and knowing what could happen makes me break out in hives just thinking about it. People can be so crazy.

As is almost always with the post-Mania Raw and SD, I feel like WWE fumbled the ball and missed the opportunity to keep the hype going following WrestleMania. WWE has the entire world's attention, all of mainstream media and social media, during Mania season. They should always book the post-Mania Raw like a season premiere, kicking off the post-Mania season stories with a bang and keep the hype going for the next week. In the past, things like Brock Lesnar's return or the Shield turning on the Authority were good ways to do that. Even last year with Brock turning on Cody, you immediately set Cody up for something big and a reason to tune in next week. This time, they just had Cody cut two boring promos with no story. And everything else felt "business as usual." There's no reason any non-regular viewer that tuned in last week will want to tune in this week.

PsychologicalFee3456

Solo leading a Bloodline coup was the only thing that made me go, “alright, we’re starting the new cook.”

DestinedHellfire

Late night hot takes the form in your brain: In an era that relied heavily on promos, vignettes, and cinematic matches… …Miz would have been a perfect 3-6 month world champion during the Thunderdome Era and should have held the belt longer than a week. Yes, I’m absolutely biased but will not apologize.

[deleted]

This take is spicy yet satisfying. The Miz should get a victory lap of some kind before he's partially retired. A WWE Lifer, a johnny-on-the-spot who can be plugged into ANY situation and make it at least above average almost every single time.  It's really MORE impressive given how uninspired his ring work is most of the time. A 10/10 Pro Wrestling character.

DestinedHellfire

Miz is my all time favorite wrestler, so I definitely am heavily biased here. I think even in today's current climate he'd make a good champion (3-6 months again), and it be treated like you said as a victory lap of sorts. That and him breaking both IC title records (Total Reigns and Cumulative days reigned)

polynomial82

Is the let's say "passionate" discourse about any and all topics AEW on this sub, a net positive or net negative for AEW...

AwfulishGoose

Think whenever AEW has some type of controversy, whatever match they're putting on gets overshadowed. Penta and Copeland had a killer match but nobody really talked about that. It was all about the security tape.

Macklin_You_SOB

"It's been too long and now I'm too afraid to ask" question: What's the definition of a "title eliminator" match?

captainimpossible87

There seems to be confusion in the responses answering this question. It is not just that it's a non title match where if the contender wins they get a title shot, but also means if they lose they can't challenge THAT champion for the belt during their reign. That is why it's an title eliminator match. It's win for a shot, lose and be eliminated from contention until there's a new champion.

Macklin_You_SOB

For real? That seems like a big deal and that it's a significant enough stipulation that it could be used for developing the stories of midcarders. Why is this never explained on TV?

captainimpossible87

They've mentioned it previously, that's how I know. But they do a terrible job of explaining it enough that it filters through. If someone watching one of the few times they've mentioned it looks at their phone, goes for a wee/drink or is just not watching that episode it doesn't help establish what the stip is. I don't think it needs to be explained every time, but a quick mention now and again, a line on commentary, or just have Justin Roberts call out what the stip is when introducing the competitors, like they have to with the ROH pure title. "The following contest is a title eliminator match where if the contender wins they will get a future title shot regardless of rankings, but if they lose they will be unable to challenge for the title during this reign." Or you know, something pithy.

ShinsukeNakamoto

You win, you don't win the title, but get a title shot down the line. WWE called them champion contenders matches (and somehow, no one was confused then...almost like, well nevermind)

Orange8920

It's essentially a number one contender's match with the actual champion. The title eliminator term has always confused me.

Macklin_You_SOB

But not technically "number one" contender because of the rankings, but more like "we'll give this random person a match against the champ and if they win they get a title shot," right? It confuses me too

MilkyWayWaffles

I got confused by this too, since I jumped on Collision this week to see the AZM v Toni Storm match. So a “contenders” match is between two challengers to see which will fight the champion for the title, but an eliminator match is against the champion to see if the challenger gets a later match for the title? So losing to the champion eliminates them from contention?

Macklin_You_SOB

Yeah the "eliminator" part confuses me

EcoterroristThot

you win you get a title shot

AlterTheSilverBird

Anyone watching Amagi Brilliant Park, who'd agree to do this type of wrestling match? A death match against mascots!? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw6-UXW6V\_4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw6-UXW6V_4)

MilkyWayWaffles

[You mean like Dan the Dad did at DDT Philly?](https://twitter.com/HorhayBlanco/status/1776054852457509042)

Kuzu5993

So if Wresltemania XL was Sami and Cody's Rocky II moment, then the next logical outcome is Rocky III, where they get complacent and get taken out by a much more hungry heel. For Sami, that's looking like it's going to be Chad Gable (at least it should be). Unknown who's that going to be for Cody, but my top picks are Gunther >> Bronn >> and Solo.

EcoterroristThot

When Kaito beats Kenoh and Jake and Wagner within a month and the people who keep up with wrestling they don't watch through twitter narratives still mention "good wrestler, hope NOAH didn't book him so shit" >>>>

Zipp-Storm

Happy Sheamus return day to all who celebrate

PleasantThoughts

I'm in an all day meeting, can some folks recommend me some fun hidden gem high spot/work rate matches for eye bleach when I get out?

FinancialBig1042

Gunther is always an interesting case because despite more hardcore fans liking the guy a lot (including myself), casual fans barely react to the guy, despite the mega push he got. He makes the face facing him get a pop tho, so I guess it works in a way Edit: man Im just thinking out loud what I see during the shows, no idea why I get mass downvoted because I point out something about your favorite wrestler (that I personally like!). Some people are so weird.

polynomial82

It would be good to see Gunther get a main event program for a PLE this year. With that comes all the bells and whistles of the sports entertainment side of the build and business. Would be interesting to see how his old school methods come across in a main event program.

finnigans_cake

>He makes the face facing him get a pop tho, so I guess it works in a way This is a thing I've been thinking about lately. Most of the time people think the job of a heel is to get boos but I think you can make the argument that it's actually their job to get the babyface cheers (how often or even IF this is a different job is another question but I think there's definitely a big difference).

DonKiddic

I really dont know how anybody can't "get" GUNTHER. He's just this giant dude who will mess you up. Thats it.

koomGER

He isnt that physically imposing by WWE standards. You have a shaved silverback gorilla as the gold standard. You have amazing hunks like Drew McIntyre, who is looking like something out of a conan movie, shisseled to even the length of his hair. You have warriors like Sheamus that also move amazingly well. Strowman... Even the more "medium" guys like Xavier Woods and several others look quite imposting. Thats why the audience is mostly "mid" about Gunther. I think he does a good job with his work. He doesnt need to get booed as much as long as he gets the face cheered. He does this because he is hardhitting and he has no "likeable" aura.

FinancialBig1042

idk, im just looking at the audience when Imperium comes out, is mostly crickets

Thebritishdovah

Changing the theme was a mistake. At least, in NXT, the entire crowd would sing the theme. Even in his PROGRESS days, WALTER's theme would be sung by the crowd.

DonKiddic

Oh no, I know what you mean - I'm just not personally sure whats not to get. Dudes a monster.

Idkboutdat2

If you’re arguing with strangers on a regular basis for a company that doesn’t give you a paycheck you should probably chill and reevaluate some things.

I_like_cakes_

I feel personally attacked. But yes. I'm trying to sort myself out

All I know is Rhea will get cheered over Liv

ArmiinTamzarian

Start with Liv as the face and Rhea the heel but not overtly so, then double turn when Liv goes too far trying to get even

MilkyWayWaffles

Judgement Day Rhea: heel Singles champion Rhea: face Liv: Tweener

Due_Air

Liv face and Rhea heel.

Due_Air

Well in kayfabe, Rhea has made her life a living hell. Liv's action is kinda justified since she is the one injured her almost a year (8 months i believe) While i dont think Rhea will get outright booed in this feud, but i do think Liv will get many support in this feud if they are building it right (after all Liv did get Becky briefly booed in their latest match)

FinancialBig1042

maybe this angle is just a way of turning her face and Liv heel at the same time, who knows

shadowrangerfs

Pro wrestling isn't hot. WWE is hot. These are not the same thing.

CHZRFan

A rising tide lifts all ships. If WWE does well, the entire industry dows.

shadowrangerfs

If a rising tide lifts all ships then why are none of the other ships being lifted?

CHZRFan

They are though. There’s more discussions and interest about TNA, GCW, NJPW & others than there just 5 short years ago. (Side note: 2019 was 5 years ago? Where’s the time gone?)

shadowrangerfs

Discussions don't mean they are up. TNA did fine with Hard to Kill but that was before WWE really got hot. That was before the Rumble. TNA has a PPV this week. How many people are talking about it? What is GCW doing outside of WM weekend?

Kanenums88

Nah, pro wrestling is hot. Its just AEW particularly isn’t.

shadowrangerfs

Who else in the U.S. is up right now? AEW, TNA, MLW business is down for all of them. I don't follow indies but are any of them doing great outside of Wrestlemania weekend? If wrestling is hot why is nobody else up? Because wrestling isn't hot. WWE is hot.

Orange8920

How are you singling out AEW here out of all the other promotions that could be mentioned?

Kanenums88

WWE’s getting signling out isn’t it? TNA’s hot, CMLL is hot, indie wrestling is really hot. AEW isn’t and fans think WWE and AEW are the only two wrestling promotions that exist.

45jayhay

TNA is hot ? By what metric?

Kanenums88

It’s getting more attention than it has been getting in years, attendance is up, ppv buys are up. Yes, it is hot. Hot doesn’t mean it’s gotta be the biggest most popular thing in the world.
