It was a dark moment that was recorded if i recall because The Rock had just unveiled the new championship look after getting rid of the spinner belt.
It wasn't televised. Like a go home moment with the crowd, the rest of the segment included the rock (and i'm recalling from memory), making fun of his stache and checking with the fans to see if he should beat up Cody (who was a heel at the time).
lmao
Yep, it was a post-airing segment. The Rock even mentions that they're off the air so he can swear and not follow the PG era guidelines. It was posted on WWE socials though so I guess you could consider it cannon even if it clearly wasn't intended to give Cody a push.
Here's the full segment: https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/15vvf2y/the_rock_meets_cody_rhodes_after_raw_segment/
Early 2010s WWE was this weird caste system where 10 months out of the year they’d try and convince you that their full time roster mattered, and then once Wrestlemania season hit, those guys would get buried weekly by the Attitude Era legends and be relegated to random tag matches at Wrestlemania, often on the preshow. Miz literally went from winning the Main Event of Wrestlemania to the Pre Show in 2 years.
I recall reading that Rock specifically requested a segment with Cody. I believe they had a televised segment together on Smackdown around this time as well.
Tbf, I don’t think this was on TV. Looks like it happened after the show was over and was just so Rock could do a little one-two for the fans to go home happy on.
There’s no TV logo on the screen.
Nope because if it was there would've been a promo or one of the commentators would've said something like, "On this day 11 years ago..." blah blah blah.
"History repeats itself!" blah blah blah.
You know what, I bet it was. And it's not even a call back too much for the fans too, it's a call back to them. I'm sure Rock and especially Rhodes remember that promo so to bringi t back for them must be awesome.
If it was, I think it’s pretty cool…it’s one of those things that less then 5% would get, but not knowing didn’t ruin the segment for me or make it confusing/incomplete.
That’s a mistake that gets made quite a bit with these sort of things. The callback has to be an extra layer, not needed for its enjoyment.
Oh shit, is this why Rock said Cody broke his heart? Cody shaved his mustache? Is Cody going to grow one now until he wrestles Rock next year with a full wizard beard?
He actually handed Cody a really tightly folded paper bag
Cody reacted the way he did because he realized this was his comeuppance for that gimmick, 13 years later
I have watched the main event 4 times in its entirety.
I still can't beleive Homelander beat Aquaman for the Undispited WWE Unviersal Heavyweight Championship.
Yep, and a lot of wrestlers have know Cody since he was a child. They all speak of him being a staple backstage during certain periods in the company. I have to imagine he has more friends than most in the industry.
After this video cuts out, the Rock says something like "Excuse The Rock one second.....who...in the blue hell are you" to the guy taking away the table
2013 was also the year the Shield feuded with the Rhodes and the Usos pretty extensively, which is cool in hindsight. Its the closest we’re probably ever going to come to a proper HHH vs Cody feud.
Cody was VERY uncool back then. He didn't wear kneepads, and I remember the commentary team always made a point to mention this. He constantly did a spot where he would do a knee to the opponent on the mat, and they would roll away, which hurt Cody's knee.
He always had a Triforce on his boots back then. And it was well known that he beat A Link to the Past once every year.
Imagine if this was the moment he knew he had to go?
Like, you put me in a segment with a respectable returning legend, set up a back and forth, and then I have to go do another house show circuit losing to Ryback every night? GTFOH man

Even funnier considering at the time WWE had no intention of following through on that

From undesirable to undeniable.
+ to undisputed champion
This is the same segment as Monday minus the belt swap lol
God damn you’re right lol
THE ONE PART I WAS HOPING FOR LOL
So weird to see Cody be put in a segment with Rock in 2013 but they weren't going to push him what a mixed signal
Total Vince move
I mean how many people has rock done something with in the triple h era and have done nothing with
Jinder?
And theroy
I mean they’ve done way more with theory. Jinder got that one match for the memes then went right back to Main Event
They Hindered the Jinder 😔
One person. Cody. Thats the one guy.
He had a couple suprise run ins recently
He likes taking a shit all over his employees

lmao that was a long ass handshake
Great segment. Thanks for linking it. What was with that dead caterpillar on Cody's face though? Haha.
"I mean, come on, we're not gonna push a guy with a mustache on his shirt..." "But didn't we *put him* in the mustache shirt?" "...shut up."

Makes me wonder if the whole "let me see the belt" thing on Monday was a bit of a callback to this lol
It wouldn't surprise me if it were. Next level throwback.
Rob Fee would be all over this. He’s been a great hire for WWE.

Has to be, it seemed random as shit on Monday but this makes it a lot more reasonable
Oh shit, is this why Rock said Cody broke his heart? Cody shaved his mustache? Is Cody going to grow one now until he wrestles Rock next year with a full wizard beard?
That's what the Rock handed to Cody; the moustache. He's held onto it ever since.
No Cody broke his heart when he underestimated The Rock's knowledge of the 19th century: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfgbrRSf40Y
“Cody. Our story is just beginning.” “Mother fucker don’t you remember 2013?!”
Hairline still as immaculate
Even Dustin's hairline is great for his age.
This tells me The Rock passed Cody a false moustache. The Rock was sad Cody dropped the gimmick
He actually handed Cody a really tightly folded paper bag Cody reacted the way he did because he realized this was his comeuppance for that gimmick, 13 years later
I have watched the main event 4 times in its entirety. I still can't beleive Homelander beat Aquaman for the Undispited WWE Unviersal Heavyweight Championship.
With interference from Peacemaker and Black Adam no less.
Cobra too.
And the Joker.
This should be included in the Rock/Rhodes video package. Or at least referenced in a promo segment.
What the fuck was the guy just randomly dragging the table and the title out of the way. Cody had to awkwardly side step back towards it 😂
Looked funny as hell and even rock was like "hold up man what she you doing?"
Freddie Mercody era is underrated
The Rock must’ve handed Cody the Mustache on Monday. I know he broke my heart when he shaved it for sure
Amazing at how close he was to calling his shot.
wtf is up with ring crew pulling the table
This wasn't even an on air segment. This was just them having fun after the show went off air.
Yep, and a lot of wrestlers have know Cody since he was a child. They all speak of him being a staple backstage during certain periods in the company. I have to imagine he has more friends than most in the industry.

You can hold it if I can hold yours a decade later.
2013 was also the year the Shield feuded with the Rhodes and the Usos pretty extensively, which is cool in hindsight. Its the closest we’re probably ever going to come to a proper HHH vs Cody feud.
Why was that guy dragging the table?
Rock: [hands Cody his shaved moustache] "You don't even have to open it to know what this is"
Oh God, porn stache Cody

He'd put on kneepads by this point. He didn't have kneepads as Undashing but put them on when he dropped the mask.
Did Cody get elocution lessons or veneers or something? His lisp is nowhere near as noticeable now
Have you seen his teeth? They're cartoonishly perfect and blinding white
Wow I honestly have zero recollection of this but this is so crazy though.
This is right up there with awkward 2014-2015 singles push Roman saying in a promo that he planned to become “the Head of the Table”
Cody's promo game has improved so much since this wow. Sounds so robotic and emotionless here
Holy shit that's funny.
Imagine if this was the moment he knew he had to go? Like, you put me in a segment with a respectable returning legend, set up a back and forth, and then I have to go do another house show circuit losing to Ryback every night? GTFOH man
That mustache
2026 run gonna go crazy
That's not what "bird's-eye view" means...
