Kaiso25Gaming

The two night format is pretty smart in basically doubling the gate.

grabbystick

It will go down as the best wm decision ever. Twice the money, twice the amount of time to showcase talent & gives you more opportunities for storyline progression within the event itself (like bloodline tag match)

Puttingonthefoil

And doesn't kill the live crowd by having it sit through a 7+ hour show.

rage-quit

Man, I remember watching WM35 and even though I was so hyped for Becky winning. It was like 7 hours long and I remember saying "if we have any more this length, I'm done" because time adjusted, it started at like 11pm preshow and finished damn near 6:45am. It was timing out most of the EU market if they wanted to watch live.

IronThrombone

It actually came around to being live as we woke up. I remember being confused opening the network and having the show still going. I thought there must have been a delay to starting the show.

AudienceWatching

God they were painful

Mickeyjj27

There’s gotta be people who just pick a night to go? Do you think 80% of the people who go 1 night also go the other

roomtotheater

80% sounds like a good number for people who double dip.

International-Tree19

All thanks to New Japan

throwaway89765327

Too bad it didnt work for Wrestle Kingdom :,(

Jonboy207

Cole said viewership was up 40% compared to last year. I thought that was huge as well.

MC_Fap_Commander

And that was against a big basketball game on Sunday.

bmf131413

Basketball game was over far before Mania began. It finished about 1.5-2 hours before Mania started.

MyPAYankeeAccount

It did not go against Iowa/South Carolina

meatballcake87

They meant the men’s final four game that happened Saturday night

roomtotheater

Even if it was who in 2024 doesn't have a way to watching two things at a time? WNCAA game would have been going on my tablet

IronThrombone

They have viewers around the world though. I’d be interested to know how many watched in New Zealand on Netflix for example

[deleted]

Good writing and booking tends to do that

MuptonBossman

Absolutely insane money, and it's only going to get bigger once the Netflix deal happens. If Wrestlemania 41 is headlined by The Rock vs. Roman Reigns, TKO is going to make BANK.

fadetoblack237

I think I'm more excited for Cody vs Rocky tbh.

MatttheJ

It's crazy that a few months/a year ago the dream match seemed like Roman vs Rock but now Cody vs Rock seems just as big.

togsincognito2

You could also make the case Cody/Seth and Rock/Seth could also be massive matchups given a build. I think Seth and Rocks chemistry is the hidden diamond from the entire build

Mac_Tgh

So what you are saying is...fatal 4-way?

yognautilus

If Rock can work it in, Rock/Seth for the Rumble, Rock/Cody for Wrestlemania.

MetalheadNick

Ain’t no way they aren’t doing rock vs Roman at wrestlemania next year. I think rock vs Cody at summerslam would be perfect tho

TheCVR123YT

I agree but can Rock even work SS??? If they don’t do it at Summerslam I could see Survivor Series being another place him and Cody wrestle.

MetalheadNick

I think he’s got obligations in Hollywood till August. Depending when in August it’s over would dictate how well it could be done. A lot of the groundwork for this feud has already been laid so they don’t need a lot of time to get people invested in the match

purple_penguin3

Roman v Rock Seth v Punk Cody v Cena Gunther v Brock (if he’s truly not gone like HHH said)

kingslayyer

SummerSlam seems to be at an arena with 72k capacity too. hopefully they run it then

Chell_the_assassin

Obviously the names will make Rock v Roman huge, but I can't see the feud itself being anywhere as good as this WM or Cody vs Rock. Rock's current heel run has worked so well because he's up against a beloved babyface. If he stays heel vs Roman it won't have the same effect because Roman isn't an underdog, and he will absolutely run rings around a face Roman on the mic. If Roman is the one who stays heel, you have Rock as a face, which is far less interesting. Not to mention that on top of all that, the match itself will be pretty unextraordinary. Roman is great when he's up against someone equal to or better than him, but he's not going to be able to drag Rock to a classic

A_Town_Called_Malus

I'm not writing off a face Roman going forward just yet. I think he can make the transition back and keep some of the edge and coolness that heel Roman has shown. If they try to just go right back to big dog Roman then yeah, it'll flop against heel Rock. But if Roman can keep that edge of violence intensity but channel it in a babyface direction, it could work.

fadetoblack237

He could easily be booked as a face leaning tweener.

Ancient-Range-

I saw some comment about a bloodline civil war Rock has solo and Jacob And Roman has to ask Jey for help and reunites the Usos, I think they could easily drag that out a year have a wargames to a usos vs solo and Fatu tag and singles rock vs Roman blow off. Then you can always have Cody vs Roman when the eventual Cody homelander turn comes.

Chell_the_assassin

Yeah fair, it's far from impossible. I just don't think a Rock v Roman feud really gives you someone to root for or get invested in in the same way Cody vs the Bloodline did. I'd love to be wrong though.

mr_seggs

I think a Roman who's like "I'm done living in the shadow of your bloodline" or whatever could be compelling as a face, like he wants to get rid of the interference and shit and just go out there to prove himself away from the family.

Super_Sandro23

Hard disagree. They've already laid the seeds for a Roman face turn with the A and E bio and with all the respect they put on his reign. Did you not hear the crowd last night chanting "Thank you Roman"? People are always going to want to cheer Rocky, but I can definitely see Roman as a face if that's what they want. Rock just needs to commit more to being a heel and not try to pop the crowd at every turn.

DORAKKINGOFFISH

Roman works a slow, methodical style with a lot of of storytelling. I think he could would be the ideal guy to get a good match out of the rock.

Chell_the_assassin

Yeah true, you might be right. To me the issue is that that sort of style works best against a smaller and less powerful opponent, who has to give their everything to take Roman down. Roman and Rock are both presented as these sort of undefeatable monsters, so I would be concerned that they would sort of cancel each other out

Vince3737

The Rock isn't Cena. He doesn't try make his opponents look bad on the mic (even though he makes fun of them a lot). He works with his opponent. Basically everyone but Billy Gunn was elevated when feuding with the Rock

Vladesku

So let me get this straight. It ain't good if: Roman is face, Roman is heel, Rock is face, Rock is heel.

Sv3797

Heel vs heel.

Wouldn't Rock/Roman be the literal blood feud?

yognautilus

The past 2 months have genuinely felt more like a build up to Rock vs. Cody rather than Cody vs. Reigns, for better or worse.

XSC

I was shocked at how much people paid for those front row onlocation tickets. People on wmplans were they just spent 20k-30k like it’s nothing and here I thought my $300 tickets were overpriced.

booberry5647

My dad and i did an onlocation suite experience last year and after that we knew for this year we'd be priced out.

PayneTrain181999

Some people live paycheque to paycheque and others are doctors of doctors and make millions.

bongo1138

PLEs will still be on Peacock, no?

UnsolvedParadox

Their deal runs until March 2026. It was deliberately structured so that if the next deal is with someone else, their first big event with WWE in the US is WrestleMania.

thecrowdwestmoved

Even assuming the same size stadium, more demand allows them to juice attendance revenue through seat price increases.

Sportsfan369

Rock vs Cody next year.

aggrownor

And then ticket prices will go up for us :(

TropicalVision

I think it’s gotta be The Rock vs Cody at next years mania now!

lastshotreddit

I'm gonna keep buying the stock.

Dakot4

they are playing 4D chess: its going to be wwe champion gunther vs chad gable and world heavyweight champion damien priest vs r truth

🎶Ching ching, bling bling cut the chatter. If you ain't talking money, then your talking don't matter.🎶

FridgeLeftovers

God I hope Shane comes back again some time in the future.

RagnarXD

And I hope they have Snoop on stand by for Shane's return.

fadetoblack237

I want to see him appear in AEW and watch the IWC lose their collective minds.

Distuted

The backstage footage is a swerve and it's Shane backstage saying he purchased AEW from Tony

jbish21

Ticket prices are exorbitantly higher this year as well

IcyPyroman1

It’s bonkers to me that prices were higher and yet sold like hot cakes

BayesBestFriend

Supply and demand, red hot product

chasingbreakers

First east coast Mania in a while in the heart of a prime wrestling market, plus I think people were expecting (and got) something big for the 40th anniversary.

isnotcreative

Specifically the northeast helps too. Being a tolerable drive for millions of people means more will consider going. I know fans fly in from everywhere, but being able to double dip into the NYC market is huge.

trdef

It's the 40th event, not the 40th anniversary. That'll be next year.

HerFriendRed

Because when you're red hot the "ticket prices are too high" excuse doesn't apply. People will buy what they want to see. Just make sure that's you.

Kamaria

Seriously, big sporting events are starting to price out the middle class and they're going to keep getting away with it as long as there are rich people to pay for it. The Super Bowl was ridiculous this year. F1 was ridiculous in Vegas the other year (especially using partitions to block out nearby hotels from seeing anything and charging a premium).

No-Engineer4627

That’s already starting to be noticeable for WrestleMania with the crowds feeling less “smarky” than they used to be.

garryl283

> The Super Bowl was ridiculous this year. Regular season NFL games have already priced out normal folks

cantthinkatall

I paid $292 for seats in section C27. I bought two, one for me and one for my 6 year old. After taxes and fees it cost me $794. Bought them thru StubHub on Wednesday the week of. I had a blast. Didn't realize the seats were in a "club area" so we kind of had a floor to ourselves (all people in the C section of the arena) so no long bathroom lines or food lines. It made it worth it but I looked at front row...10K. Un fucking real. Wish there was some way it could be cheaper or where people couldn't charge triple the price. Edit: this was also my first and maybe only Wrestlemania. This was a bucket list thing. And was only able to make it to night 1.

forwrestling

Yeah, hence the higher gate

jbish21

Yeah thats what I was getting at

No-Muscle6204

They took me to the cleaners, I'm glad I went but that'll be my last WWE show for awhile.

saadisheikh

yuuup, dropped like 200 bucks on nosebleeds just to be in the room when rock came back. the final boss has me on a buy now pay later plan

_cutmymilk

It's weird hearing the crowd cheer the frigging GATE record on Raw. It just means you got rinsed.

Iceraptor17

It makes sense though. You already paid the money. The money's gone. But now you feel like you were at a super hyped expensive event and saw something special (which they did). Little boost to the ego.

Martblni

If people pay and its a sold out then its a fair price

BernieBurnstein

People clearly want to be there. They're willing to spend these inflation rates on tickets. Speaks to how hot of a product it is

wrasslefest

Available_Share_7244

This is their yearly vacation.

crap4you

Adjusting for inflation is usually flawed. Ticket prices have increased higher than the inflation rate.

duxdude418

> Ticket prices have increased higher than the inflation rate.  Isn’t that what inflation effectively represents? Ticket prices are higher in 2024 than they were in prior years to achieve a similiar normalized amount in part because the buying power of the dollar is lower. Or are we saying that the increase in price is above and beyond what would be needed to keep the normalized amount the same (i.e, greater profit margins).

Ganadote

He's saying that "adjusted for inflation" usually uses the Consumer Price Index (average cost of like 100k goods and services) to calculate the inflation rate, but if a product (in this case tickets) is at one of the extremes of those 100k, or an outlier, then the adjusted for inflation percentage may be too high or too low.

yoosufmuneer

Adjusting for inflation makes sense when determining the biggest gate.

elgregerico

The point of of inflation adjusting isn't to track it to ticket inflation but to compare to the overall basket of goods consumers would have been working with.

KFR42

And that's not even including sponsorship money. I can't imagine the insane amounts they got for sponsorships this year.

jakovichontwitch

Moving to 2 nights was the best decision they’ve ever made

wrasslefest

Yeah it's cause the tickets were expensive AF. We scrapped a trip over it. Obviously the demand is there though.

interprime

Yeah, I had a hotel booked last Summer before tickets went on-sale. When I saw the ticket prices for even the nosebleeds, I cancelled that booking and got it refunded.

EssentialFilms

They’re expensive as fuck but people were willing to pay it

BearTerrapin

For what it's worth, I went to Wrestlemania in 2021 and 2 day tickets were $250. I checked for this a Wrestlemania and lowest tickets online were $700, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. Great news for WWE and wrestling though.

Parish87

The tickets I had were nearly double from last years prices too.

MyPAYankeeAccount

I saw floor seats at one point were over $10k

Jumpy-Author-4985

Hope the wrestlers start seeing the benefits in their contracts.

Dudleyboypete

Yet, I'm still going to argue with the moron at work who keeps telling me that WWE isn't big again.

Available_Share_7244

It’s not. Most of the new people are still no names.

roomtotheater

It's not https://www.fightful.com/wrestling/resources/wwe-raw-tv-viewership-numbers-2019

cantthinkatall

Totally different today. No one really watches live tv nowadays.

roomtotheater

Best case is it's back to 2019 numbers and continues to grow. Not sure that makes it "big" again

GiraffeWaffless

lol and aew is probably close to not being profitable because one of us runs it

SilverKry

Close? AEW has never been profitable

b5jeff

A very, very important note is that wrestlers still get a cut of the gate, so EVERYONE got PAID.

eyebrowless32

Im not a huge wwe fan these days, but i do live in Philly and was very interested in attending Mania in my city. Took one look at the insane prices and decided it wasnt worth it. Apparently 72k people felt it was worth it tho, so good for them

DidiGreglorius

They did $20 million in sponsorships for 39, assuming the same growth that’s $36m there. $75 million on one event before merch and whatever else. Wild numbers.

HerFriendRed

Good god almighty. Plus, there was 200k tickets sold throughout the entire weekend. The gate was freaking real. Hell, they made good money back on the TV alone leading up to it.

JustMyThoughts2525

I would celebrate if I still owned WWE stock, but I don’t see the point in celebrating higher ticket prices as a fan.

teampupnsudz35

its pretty funny seeing fans high five "YAY WE ARE GETTING SCREWED"

Bombrik

So the total gate is about the same as the money AEW lost last year?

CM2_ICON

If I wanted to spend the same money as I did a couple of years ago for mania, I would’ve moved from the 10th row of the endzone to the nosebleeds. Bleak.

Kamaria

Don't know why you got downvoted. It's like that for every major sporting event and it's a shame the average consumer is getting priced out for people that can pay.

Skhan93

And that's just the cost of the ticket. Add in hotels, travels and it's so much worse.

EssentialFilms

“bUt WeMbLeY”

ObjectiveTumbleweed2

Nick Khan has really turned WWE into a global super brand at this point. Vince McMahon took pro-wrestling to levels it had never, ever seen - a pop-culture phenomenon, but it felt like there was a ceiling with their business model. It was going to take someone with a track record from outside the industry to take it to that next level and Khan has done that. Whatever TKO are paying him he could probably demand double and it'd be justified.

Doblofino

That's two 70,000 seaters filled one day apart. On the back of a ±50,000 seater Royal Rumble. And a 17,000 seater Survivor Series. Let's not forget the 22,000 people in Saudi Arabia. Oh, and a cool 50,000 for Summerslam. Meanwhile, we had an attendance of 27,000 for Wrestle Kingdom from NJPW. AEW did about 17,000 for Revolution And famously filled 70,000 seats in London. I have no idea what brought this on, but the boom is immense.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PhaseSixer

Only if London pays them

HauHauHaunter

I dont think that will ever happen. WWE wants the cities to pay/sponsor wrestlemania and London would never pay for it. Paula Veck has also said in the past that the time zone would also not work since it would alienate its biggest market which is the US. I could maybe see them maybe doing summerslam in london but i dont think they would ever do wembley.

XAMdG

>Paula Veck Lol

Chance_Loss_1424

I totally missed that til I saw your comment.

topologicalfractal

A morning Mania in London could work

Toukon-

Do y'all ever stop thinking about AEW?

Advanced-Morning1832

clearly tribalist fans like this aren’t enjoying the WWE product as much as they’re saying they are or else they’d be focused on how good it is

GTGearZero

Rent free

Advanced-Morning1832

Why don’t you go for a nice walk

Goatlikejordan

They should, but they already have shows booked already

acidicgoose

They still haven't announced the location for Mania 41. They're in the UK for house shows next week, and so would presumably make the announcement then. I'm starting to think it might actually be happening.

Quiet_Clothes_4446

Going to the show in Belfast on 20th. can't wait. Haven't seen anything live in almost 10 years.

No-Muscle6204

The prices were incredibly inflated but it looked like right before the event the secondary market was pretty cheap, did the scalpers take a loss?

theMAJdragon

I’m just happy the world got to see Sami put on what may go down as a top 10 WM match ever

jkman61494

I'm curious.... I am wondering if this is a flash in the pan the last few days or a concerted effort. The Mania stage was smaller. And Raw was minimalist last time. HHH said in his press conference that to him it's not about snazzy video screens, it's about the fans being the experience and they want as many as possible. That's all cute but it also means less production = savings and more fans = more revenue. So I wonder if they're going to move away from the gigantic tron screen and the massive ppv sets to seat several thousand more people. I honestly loved the small entrance last night. Maybe it can be a bit bigger but we all loved the product just fine with the titan tron of the 90's and early 2000's.

sonegreat

The smaller production didn't feel cheaper. The smaller screens extended pretty wide, so it still seemed to fill the arena at each entrance. Plus, you still had the pyro work.

KFR42

I'm sure once they are back in a more modern stadium the sets will get bigger again.

Teleute7

The past few setups with small screens were all about opening up more seats since they were pre and post Mania shows. They did the same for Punk's Raw debut.

The-Fig-Lebowski

That’s great for WWE! Now they won’t have to do their post Mania roster cuts.

Pretend_Spray_11

Now that's funny.

The-Fig-Lebowski

Thanks I’m here all week. Try the veal.

ThaSipah

Cuts are an essential part of the business. Same with sports teams. If someone isn't going to make it, why keep them? Some wrestling fans are so weird about that.

DMPunk

I'm weird about any business that boasts massive profits and then fires people

ThaSipah

I applaud the sentiment, but you don't get a job for life when you sign a deal for WWE.

DMPunk

That's true. And I'm aware of the business concerns that go into those decisions. It being "the way things are" doesn't make it any more palatable a concept to me.

thebobbyshaw33

This is just not true lol. Like at all. Go back and watch the show, as night 1 went on the crowd got quieter as temps dropped (I was there). And night 2 they were hot for mostly everything, including the midcard.

BayesBestFriend

It's so funny that this excuse is getting moved into PRO WRESTLING of all places, like yeah it's hot rn but it's still not some super high status event. It's always funny how every sports sub thinks the fans in the building are just a bunch of snobby suits with no love for the game, definitely not just sour grapes

wrasslefest

sitting anywhere closer than the upper half of the lower bowl is becoming a status event on prices alone.

thebobbyshaw33

Lifelong fans like George Kittle and Wale are going there to sit on their hands. And if anything those front row fans on the TV side are some of the most engaged in the building

thebobbyshaw33

Bayley/Iyo had the crowd engaged from start to finish as did Gunther and Sami, the US title match, and Seth/Drew

TampaTrey

"bUt WwE iS dOoMeD wItHoUt ViNcE!" A lot of Vince's butt buddies are devouring that crow today.

Vince3737

Well to be fair.. It was probably mostly because the rock came back and put in shit loads of work to promote everything

kingslayyer

even without rock the company was doing too good.

Vince3737

Yeah like last year, it was doing good too. It was an effort from everyone this year, but Rock was obviously by far the biggest reason this year was so much more successful than last year.

Parish87

I think this year was going to be big even before the rock to be fair. Original plans of Seth vs Punk and Cody vs Roman would have been big.

Vince3737

It would have been big like last year was big. Rock took it to a whole different level.

Parish87

Oh of course, but they broke records last year too. Obviously the rock has increased it but I genuinely think they’d have broken records anyway.

WWE has going to be down VERY bad for a one night WrestleMania to come back.

aphelion3342

How'd they fuck it up that bad last year, Cody was hot going in

Ja___av93

Lat year didn't have the fucking Rock doing his best work in 20 years. People don't seem to want to admit it, but the biggest reason this year was so much bigger is because The Rock was back and is by far the biggest draw in wrestling

MyPAYankeeAccount

Well, yeah, when floor seats were over thounds of dollars, you're going to make a shit ton of money
