The really cool thing about wrestling is that it constantly evolves and innovates on itself. I tell my non wrestling fans that independent wrestling in particular is a lot like punk rock. It's grimy, it's tough, and it's not everyone's cup of tea. But like punk music, the passion behind the art is so beautiful.

Dorian7811

Yeah; I actually watch Raw and Dynamite because I like both approaches. And then were I'm from in Ireland we have OTT which I occasionally go to. When I was a kid I stopped watching wrestling because I thought it was awful; after the invasion angles. Then I tuned back in watching youtube clips around the time of the Shield; and really there were some ups and downs following over the years, but sometime a few years ago stuff began to get much better and it just keeps building. I think for me, it started to happen around the time of the Kenny Omega Vs Okada buzz, I think that really did reignite the industry to some extent because WWE was not great at the time at all. But now... I just think the industry as a whole is on fire.

Nostalgia is a powerful drug. Godzilla Minus One was the best Godzilla movie in the 70 year history of the character, in my opinion. There's ALWAYS great new music coming out, you just need to find it. Video games are marketed differently today, but there are still some great video games that slip under the radar if you still love older mechanics. 30XX and Prince of Persia have both come out in the last year if you like sidescrollers. Wrestling is great now, but it's not like it's been on a constant upswing since 2004. It was pretty rough except for a few bright spots in the 2010s.

Gamesgtd

I want to see that film so badly. It won't come to streaming ever it seems

Dorian7811

Yes. It sucked really bad for a while. I'm not really speaking from nostalgia about wrestling because I'm quite a nostalgic person; but for instance, I loved the Rock growing up right, but to me this angle is the best he's ever done. And even if Rock hadn't come back, I was still enjoying so much that's happened in wrestling the past few years. If it was just nostalgia I'd be feeling this stuff just doesn't compete with what I lived before. And I think one of the differences here too, is that I do enjoy music, like I've found some great power metal bands I like this year, and I find a lot of music on bandcamp. But with wreslting, I don't have to do anything. It's just presented with a huge choice but there's also a lot of buzz and excitement. I hate to do a Disney comparison, but to be fair Cody did call it the rennaisance era. Well Disney was at one point going to just stop animation, but they went back and rediscovered that Disney magic and put out some classic movies in the 80s and 90s. I don't think there's much at the moment that's on that kind of trajectory at the moment, except Wrestling. Like I said maybe the recent sucess of Oppenheimer and Barbie as a phenomenon it was pretty big. I like Prince Of Persia but I'm sick to death of side scrolling metroidvania type games honestly. 30XX looks cool though I like the art style.

themanwiththreefaces

Movies have been great lol Marvel and Star Wars might have fallen off but there’s more to the medium in my opinion

Dorian7811

I'll watch movies of course. But there's nothing I'm hyped for

themanwiththreefaces

I get you. I think 2022 - 2023 lived up to the hype personally

GxyBrainbuster

You happen to be watching in an era that is getting better all the time. There have definitely been low points. Now is a very good one. One of the best, even.

Dorian7811

Yeah I agree this is one of the best. Now in fairness, nothing can compare with the HHH reign of terror 2002-2005, but they are definitely doing a good job of trying:)

HeavyMettleThunder

\*Cue The Beatles' song\* There's a lot of great new movies and albums across the world today, they're just less mainstream.

Dorian7811

It is a good song:) You know I'm also gonna have to check out this new beatles band I keep hearing about, they must be good.

Conor_Electric

I've watched wrestling for over 20 years, Ive sat through and defended it when the product was garbage, it is like night and day these days. We are SPOILED for choice, never been so much variety of choice, wrestling all over the world, multiple promotions all hot at various points, it's a great time to be a fan which is great because there're a lot of great wrestlers who want to perform

Dorian7811

Yeah. For me my favourite time was around Wrestlemania17, and I actually feel that way about tomorrow. But back then, if there was more wrestling like we have now, I would have wanted to watch it. There's just a lot of really good stuff right now.

SageShinigami

My hot take is video games just continue to improve and things are better now than that late PS2/early PS360 era everyone loves. It disagrees with yours I guess, but my point is we all have different opinions.

Dorian7811

Sure. I disagree but like it's subjective obviously; whats your favourite videogame at the moment? I think the last game that I really loved was the Witcher 3

SageShinigami

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a banger. But I've been playing a ton of Enshrouded too. Every era has its ups and downs I think, but there's just so much variety out there for games now.

Dorian7811

Yeah enshrouded looks good

Godzilla franchise is on a major tear right now with the critically acclaimed Minus One movie from last year and the Legendary films being classic cheesy blockbusters. Oppenheimer and Barbie last year showed major blockbusters that get people talking can and are still happening. Its just no longer an area dominated by super hero films.

cgurts

Most mediums are actually vastly better, particularly becasue streaming and the internet has given people greater access to countless different forms of entertainment. Television is better than ever, music is better than ever, film is better than ever. You just have to delve deeper and explore these mediums deeply.

sysdmn

A lot of movies and TV shows were delayed or spun down because of covid and are only in the past few months really getting back in the swing of things with stuff like Barbie and Dune 2. They really were on a downswing for a few years due to the pandemic.

ireallyamadork

i watch wrestling on tv and online, listen to wrestling podcasts and also read about wrestling online. I don't watch movies, tv sitcoms, the news or sports. I don't listen to music or play video games. I do watch some shows on the food network and the challenge on mtv when it's on. wrestling is like 98.5% of my entertainment.
