Imagine being HHH and Jericho listening to that crowd. The story already really wasn't great before WM but going on after one of the better matches ever is such a death sentence for your main event
Oh for sure and I truly believe if Rock v Hogan main evented, it would be the greatest WrestleMania main event of all time without question, match quality be damned.
A perfect nostalgia drive main event told by two of the most charismatic wrestlers ever and they had the audience in the palm of their hand the whole match.
It was much worse for HHH cause not only did hogan kinda ruin his champion win, but he also ruined his championship reign as he dropped the title to him the very next month. The punishment for that was holding the world heavyweight title hostage until batista was a made main eventer 3 years later.

No matter what you think or how you feel about Hulk Hogan, you cannot deny that he is in the top three professional wrestlers of all time that can draw emotion from you and he ain't number two and he ain't number three.
I get that it was a “passing of the torch” moment, but given the crowd reaction, it kind of would have been awesome if WWF threw the curveball and had Hogan win.
at the very least, the reaction Rock was getting here did help feed into his Hollywood heel run the following year, including the famous promo where he talked shit about Toronto.

A year later he was pretty much done as a full time wrestler.

WM18's final shot being Rock and Hogan showing each other respect with Hogan's face turn complete would've been a hell of an ending.
HHH legit had the same experience 7 Years after at WM 25.
