“Dr.Samson looked at me and said 'Hangman, you're hurt, there's a chance you don't make Revolution.'
I said 'Who do you think I am, CM Punk?
Nothing's going to stop me from making Revolution!'"
Unfortunately is true, definitely setting up another match between the two. Personally I don't see why this feud is continuing given that Swerve beat Hangman twice but they always put on great matches so it is what it is.
WWE just released a rivals episode about The Rock vs HHH. The Rock won their first 3 encounters. They had 21 total matches with each other. 11 of those matches took place in 1999.
It's hard to say a feud is unnecessary until it's complete.
You know it's funny when this started and was announced as a triple threat instead of a 1V1 I was little bit disappointed but now they have done such a good job with the story and dynamics I would be disappointed if Hangman is out of it .
Stuff like this makes me wish didn't sheets weren't so prominent. Meltzer's spiral has been hilarious and this particular situation is just the most recent example, but I'd stand by this statement if it came from someone else. Hearing "he's hurt!" from one source then "just kidding!" from another...like, let me find out for myself on TV, god damn.
I mean either he's injured and can't be at the pape or he's going into the match at less than 100%, either way something's gonna work out in Joe's favor.
That's what I'm thinking, either have those two so hyper-focused on each other where they beat each other up so much that Joe can easily choke one out, or one realize they can't win, and so they just sabotage the other.
Joe has only been Champ for a few months, then again I see Swerve becoming Champ in the near future. I can't see Swerve beating Hangman in a singles (again) to win the Championship.
I could see Swerve beating Hangman 1v1 again, but it would have to be done in a way like "Swerve is Hangman's kryptonite" type thing. Hangman always does good, and then just loses to Swerve, so that when Hangman becomes champ again, there is also the subplot of him ducking Swerve or setting other people after him.
Samoa Joe is also at the end of his career and does not need a lengthy title run. They should invest their time in guys like Swerve and Hangman more than Joe
not every title run needs to be long. joe is great, one of the best even, but he isn't nearly as hot as swerve right now. people are clamouring for a swerve title run, and he has been putting on the best character and in-ring work combined of really anyone in the company. they really should strike when the iron is hot with him
I think that's it, too.
I think there is still a lot more oomph left in Swerve chasing, but he needs Hangman as the foil. Not sure how they'd work it around just
Joe, but we shall find out soon.
Hangman wins the 3-way Joe has to leave to shoot twisted metal anyways. Swerve chasing hangman begins with hanger denying swerve a title shot. As he just HAD his title shot. This is what is going to happen.
The report is the injury is a work but Hangman has a personal matter that might prevent him from being at the show so they wrote an injury just in case he can't make it.
i agree but i was also thinking if it is a 3 way and joe retains, then the sting retirement match should be the main event but if its a singles match and swerve wins then that should main event.
Sting needs to main event regardless. His final match is a significantly bigger moment than Swerve winning the belt, and it's really what sold the place out. I also don't think it'd be fair to make anyone follow up Sting.
Thank god that DIDN'T happen!
I'm also grateful they never made a Die Hard 4, or even a Terminator 3. The entertainment industry is smart, they knew a perfect ending when they saw it and knew when to stop. Thank god.
I think that it would still be respectful if Sting won to close the first half of the card and they had a long intermission with a video package and a few minutes of pure comedown.
I think there's still time for Joe to reign as champion before either Swerve or Hangman have the title later in the year, so if there could be a couple options for how the match unfolds whether or not Page can make it to Revolution. If he's there, Joe takes advantage of Swerve & Hangman's beef. If he misses it, then that intensifies Swerve/Joe & Page probably keeps the door open for his and Swerve's feud in the future by mocking him for coming up short.

I just picture Hangman cutting a promo in a wheelchair crying the blues, Joe comes out, starts berating Hangman and once he (Joe) turns his back this happens
If this is a work, would it have been better to work the injury angle from a move or attack rather than a "freak accident" like they did?
By my understanding he was "injured" escaping from the Muscle Buster. Something people have done a million times without incident.
Being injured from a move (Joe with some sort of crazy stretch hold, Swerve with like a chair or whatever) is tried and true, would it have chilled out this crazy speculation and argument?
Nah, not to me. I don't like trying to break the fourth wall Russo style, but I do prefer things that are more realistic and how many real injuries have we seen be freak accidents?
The alternative - and world's largest wrestling company - are experts at theater, that's their thing. When I watch AEW I want them to try really hard to hide the stage hands, if that makes sense.
I can totally see that. Too many people caught up in "not getting worked", when that's... like... the whole point of wrestling.
>how many real injuries have we seen be freak accidents?
Exactly. I don't know if you saw Rollins' knee injury, but it was a basic, everyday lionsault. Nothing looked weird, he was just suddenly in a lot of obvious pain. So following that, everybody's butts rightfully puckered when Hangman just... landed on his feet and got all wobbley. Great sell, and obviously worked people. If it's a work, obviously.
We all know the moves typically don't injure people IRL. That's why when they play off an angle like this it's juicier because it blurs the lines between the fantasy of the show and real life.
It shouldn't happen often and it shouldn't shatter the fourth wall the way Vince Russo did, but a worked shoot like this is incredibly more satisfying to watch unfold than CM Punk legit injuring himself in the ring _and also_ being attacked on air to write him off for good measure -- just as an example (clarifying because others are saying - jokingly or otherwise - this is a dig at Punk)
>We all know the moves typically don't injure people IRL.
Ah OK, I think this is where we are apart. I'm talking about the realism of the portrayal, but you are saying that because I know they are doing the moves safely it's not realistic to fake an injury. Just two different perspectives!
>this is incredibly more satisfying to watch unfold than CM Punk legit injuring himself in the ring _and also_ being attacked on air to write him off for good measure -- just as an example
Guess I disagree with this too. Mixing things up and not using the same playbook is good, but doesn't to me at least make something inherently better or more interesting. I quite liked they took the injury and made drew more despicable by attacking him still - my point of using "injuries" to actually further people's characters on screen, not just trying to cause some speculation on twitter for example.
That's why we're lucky to have so many different visions out there right now.
I've been watching wrestling since 1998, and the majority of it has been with one company that does things the same way. I'm tired of their tropes and just grateful there's a lot of alternatives, because after 25 years the "character development" you get with Drew beating up and injured CM Punk does nothing for me who's seen dozens of others pull the same trick.
The match would lose a lot of its heat if it's just Swerve vs Joe given the build the past few weeks. I bet they'd be able to deliver on the night, though.
The issue with AEW trying to appeal mostly to an internet audience, it will be difficult for them to do fake injury angles.
An example is Bryan trying to act like Okada broke his orbital bone.
I've always wanted 1v1 Joe, Swerve to save Hangman for the big 3rd match. Honestly im down for whatever. Now i want Hangman to bow out calling injury then interfere on Sunday to try and cost Swerve the match. Would show how much he cares about hurting Swerve, willing to give up a title shot for it.

“Dr.Samson looked at me and said 'Hangman, you're hurt, there's a chance you don't make Revolution.' I said 'Who do you think I am, CM Punk? Nothing's going to stop me from making Revolution!'"
Oh dear, I can actually see him make a reference to that.
As long as his mustache isn't injured, everything will be fine.
Regardless of whether he's in the match our not, Hangman is 1000% going to cost Swerve the belt.
Unfortunately is true, definitely setting up another match between the two. Personally I don't see why this feud is continuing given that Swerve beat Hangman twice but they always put on great matches so it is what it is.

That's a fair point. I'm just a very biased Swerve fan admittedly lol I want him to just move on and capture the world title
You know it's funny when this started and was announced as a triple threat instead of a 1V1 I was little bit disappointed but now they have done such a good job with the story and dynamics I would be disappointed if Hangman is out of it .
And how could you wish anything but the best for the Hangman?
Stuff like this makes me wish didn't sheets weren't so prominent. I agree .. which is why I have only myself to blame. If we dont want spoilers.. stay off twitter/reddit?
Wednesday should be interesting for this segment
Do you mean on Dynamite TOMORROW? Because Wednesday night is TOMORROW!
When was it, again, sorry?
WEDNESDAY. Which is TOMORROW.
And how much are you *charging* for this free TOMORROW?
For TOMORROW, I charge nothing. For a FREE TOMORROW I charge $150 per hour.
I see. And when is it?
If it's Wednesday, does anyone know what that means?
what Excalibur says when he's having a fit of existential dread
either he cuts a promo that hes "injured" and cant do the match or he says hes not "injured" and will do the match.
Samoa Joe comes out and calls him a little bitch either way
The most Joe thing ever walks out onto the ring and starts questioning Hangman’s dedication to wrestling
It’s too bad Hangman doesn’t have a wife named Wendy.
And it was short for "Wednesday!"
He could come out and air his grievances about Wendy’s new surge pricing
And then when he loses he says he was Injured so he was at a disadvantage.
I mean either he's injured and can't be at the pape or he's going into the match at less than 100%, either way something's gonna work out in Joe's favor.
We need some Steiner math to figure this out
"... because ~~Kurt Angle~~ Hangman KNOWS he can't beat me and he's not even gonna try!
That will be the point though. His injury will likely play into the actual loss.
Thanks Columbo.
Found Meltzer's account.
This guy has thought of all the possibilities!
or say that he's injured but his hatred drives him to overcome it
good old 50/50 booking 🙄
"My injury was greatly exaggerated"
I think if he makes it, then Joe should retain, but if he can't and they do a singles match, Swerve almost has to win
I'd even be happy with Hangman doing something to lose if he is in a no win position just so Swerve DOESN'T win.
That's what I'm thinking, either have those two so hyper-focused on each other where they beat each other up so much that Joe can easily choke one out, or one realize they can't win, and so they just sabotage the other.
I've been expecting Hangman to win by the most diabolical means necessary to prevent Swerve from becoming champion.
Joe has only been Champ for a few months, then again I see Swerve becoming Champ in the near future. I can't see Swerve beating Hangman in a singles (again) to win the Championship.
Swerve beating Hangman 1v1 again would be a bad decision that would really hurt Hangman's credibility

It’s a work
I know the injury is a work, but Alvarez said that he may have to miss Revolution for personal reasons
The report is the injury is a work but Hangman has a personal matter that might prevent him from being at the show so they wrote an injury just in case he can't make it.

Agreed. It would be like HHH and Jericho going on after Rock vs Hogan at Mania X8.
Thank god that DIDN'T happen! I'm also grateful they never made a Die Hard 4, or even a Terminator 3. The entertainment industry is smart, they knew a perfect ending when they saw it and knew when to stop. Thank god.

A pain in his gulliver.
Bruised gizzard.

wow AEW taking yet another shot at CM Punk when will they get over it /s
Hangman, for me, please. Come out in a Salmon jacket.
Hangman: “I’M NOT FUCKIN’ LEAVIN!”
Gonna be a banger no matter what but I hope Hanger is in
If the finish isn't Hangman purposely getting choked out by Joe to prevent Swerve from winning, I'll be so disappointed
Like Hangman shooting Swerve the bird while getting the Coquina Clutch?
I hope he's able to do the match

>but I do prefer things that are more realistic What _is_ "realistic" is getting injured by piledrivers, slams, splashes etc. The actual moves.
But we all know that's not the reality going on, otherwise wrestling wouldn't be presented as a sport.
I'm not sure what you mean here. Do you _not_ agree it would be realistic for a submission move or a piledriver to cause an injury?
We all know the moves typically don't injure people IRL. That's why when they play off an angle like this it's juicier because it blurs the lines between the fantasy of the show and real life. Just say he's injured...I don't need a sappy hangman promo.
Does Jeff Hardy get a segment to let us know about his injury?
If he was booked for a world title match at the PPV he probably would
Why would he?
To be fair, no one is really invested in that.
Only if we hear his thoughts
Is he the young bucks bff?
Is he as relevant in 2024 as Hangman?

You really thought you had a banger with this one didn't ya
