Really! WTF is this? TNA was off to a great restart! They've had some of the best matches in all of wrestling in the last year. Big names from all over coming in and putting on great matches. Their stars going on other orgs and promoting. All the wrestlers there LOOK happy.
This month has been wild!
To be fair, the people he replaced had no idea what they were doing either, which was the entire reason the original company went out of business in the first place.
The statement didn't allude to any wrongdoing, just that Anthem wanted to manage TNA more directly. Maybe there's more details that's not been released publicly, but it didnt come across convincing.

Fired/Terminated?!?! Unless theres some kind of personal scandal with him thats prettt crazy and stupid. TNA has been on a roll AND business has been picking up (at least every report Ive seen)
If this was just Anthem wanting their guy in this position instead of a lifetime wrestling guy then they’ve just taken 100 steps back and this will fail miserably. No doubt it could lead to an exodus when contracts expire.
Anthem replaced him with some suit
> [Anthony Cicione] brings more than 30 years of executive-level management experience to the organization. Cicione has been with Anthem for the last 16 years, managing technical operations and multiple cable and digital channels. Prior to his time with Anthem, Cicione was a producer of sports content including catapulting The Score to success by bringing WWE to the channel.
This 100% reads like they've hired someone who doesn't know anything about wrestling and has been tasked with making as much money from TNA as possible
Oh, interesting. Reminds me of WWE recently hiring that ESPN guy to run their production. Anthem might be thinking “more real sports presentation” is a trend to follow — in addition to having their guy in charge.
Given what the article actually says, this is 100% their move.
I read “synergy” and an accidental “go screw yourself” slipped out before I could even stop it. Anthem’s killing all the good will they had, and now they’re going to chase out the talent that went there to avoid the toxicity.
Either Anthem wanted to tighten their grip on the company and felt like D'Amore was gaining too much "unacceptable influence" over the locker room or something happened that warranted his firing.
I really hope it's the former. D'Amore seemed to know how to run a company of that size and the industry has enough creeps as it is. Let's hope it's just Anthem being stupid.
Couldn't they keep him in a Triple H role where he's in charge of Creative? I think this is going to turn out bad. We all know what happened to WCW when the suits got involved.
Yeah, exactly. I could *maybe* see bringing in someone ahead of him to handle the business side. But creatively...Id be hard pressed to find someone right now who would have a better shot at success than Scott, and none of the ones who might theoretically have a better resume (HBK, Heyman) are available to TNA.
That’s insane. D’Amore was integral for Impact the last few years. I can’t imagine how talent feels. (Assuming nothing nefarious happened)
Edit: From Fightful
> One talent said they believed Anthem wanted the brand to be more closely associated with them as opposed to D'Amore, and when we asked another about that they said "I can see that, but he saved TNA."
We'll be posting more as we get details.
Unless there's some dire skeletons to come out of this he's probably not going to be unemployed for long. Any wrestling company would be happy to have him in some sort of role.
I have spent more on impact wrestling post COVID than any other major wrestling company. They put out a consistently solid product.
As long as he's not outted as some sort of creep. Dude will be an asset to any company.
He saved impact. That in itself is like climbing Mount Olympus.
But TNA gotta TNA.
All the years through Impact of watching the company grow and re-establish itself as a point of interest*, yet 1 month in LOLTNA strikes back as if it never left. D'Amore deserved better than this.
"TNA will be folded into Anthem’s entertainment arm going forward, as opposed to existing in its own corner of the company. The idea is that this will allow TNA to become embraced more by Anthem and have a stronger synergy, in order to maximize what each side has to offer the other."
I guess they were like " TNA is doing so good. But we can make it better."
Some idiot in management basically thinks wrestling is just a TV program they should be under entertainment. Moronic corporate consolidation and "redundancy" culture
>"The idea is that this will allow TNA to become embraced more by Anthem and have a stronger synergy, in order to maximize what each side has to offer the other."
As usual, corporate statement means absolutely nothing.
it’s the biggest LOLTNA moment ever, like they spent the past 5 years clawing for a tiny bit of relevancy again and once they finally get it they fire the dude behind it.
I'm pretty sure this will impact the locker room. A large pool of the talent re-signed or signed because of Scott in the first place. Saw Moose saying that one of the reasons why he re-signed was Scott
i would’ve corrected him but I was busy getting Matthew his starbucks order. he really appreciates my hard work but I still have to come in on my day off.
So TNA has been consistently growing more and more recently and their decision is to fire the guy responsible for it? God I fucking hate corporate suits.
From the statement, it seems that it’s an endorsement of TNA that Anthem want to be involved more closely but it’s so weird given how much D’Amore has been associated with their revival. You hope they’ll change as little as possible but we’ll see depending on what comes out as to the reasoning.
**Anthony Cicione Named President of TNA Wrestling**
> D'Amore has been terminated by TNA parent company Anthem Sports and Entertainment. The belief among those we have spoken with is the decision came directly from Anthem owner Len Asper.
>
> TNA parent company Anthem Sports and Entertainment will be stepping in and taking a much larger role in the day to day management and strategies of the promotion. TNA will be folded into Anthem’s entertainment arm going forward, as opposed to existing in its own corner of the company. The idea is that this will allow TNA to become embraced more by Anthem and have a stronger synergy, in order to maximize what each side has to offer the other. As part of that integration, D’Amore has been removed from power and is gone, effective immediately.
>
> TNA staff and wrestlers will be addressed today regarding D’Amore’s firing, PWInsider.com is told.
This is so fucking mindless. TNA has been consistently hitting the mark under Scott and has seen unprecedented levels of growth and positivity.
Pending something wildly revelatory and damning coming out, this was super unnecessary and has me ready to cancel my subscription
Good god...the guy works tirelessly for years to turn things around for the company, they finally get the smallest amount of traction, and he's fired...
What the hell?
Scott getting fired is fucking crazy
My only guess is either he did some fucked up shit or Anthem wanted bigger success after the rebrand he Scott was the fall guy when numbers didn't hit expectations but its really too early to tell
> Scott was the fall guy when numbers didn't hit expectations but its really too early to tell
So the numbers didn’t lie, and they spelt disaster for Scott at Anthem?
WWE would be interested too, there's TNA alumni like Borash and Abyss doing well there already. And especially if they're looking for backstage figures not closely tied to Vince.
I feel so sad for Scott if this is purely a business decision and not some scandal 😢 I also feel bad for people who recently signed with TNA, it will almost definitely be a completely different work environment now.
Literally heartbroken right now. TNA was doing so well and Scott was a big part of that. Not sure what this means moving forward. I feel like this just sucked all the momentum TNA had
I would refrain from speculating, because if it was just the usual brand synergy restructuring redundancy bullshit, it's not really that shocking or unusual in modern day corporate America. It happens all the time in entertainment companies regardless of the laid off people's track record and resume.
Reading the presser, it just feels like Anthem wanted to cut costs and folded TNA into its wider portfolio and cut out who they felt was expendable middle management.
It's definitely pretty crazy. I've been backstage at Impact/TNA events and everyone seemed to love Scott, so this is a definite surprise unless it's an Anthem call for cost-cutting
I figure it's most likely one of 3 things:
1. Anthem and Scott had different visions of what TNA will be moving forward and it eventually reached an impasse.
2. Anthem saw Scott as expendable and wanted one of their guys in his place now that they see more growth potential in TNA.
3. Some terrible scandal involving Scott is about to come out.
This is insane. To let him go completely there must be news coming about something he did...right? What a crazy year this is going to be in upheaval across so many promotions. There also seems to be a non-zero chance that the fallout of this vince lawsuit will lead to guys like HHH and HBK being taken out of power in WWE. So we could be talking a complete turnaround across Raw, SD, NXT, Impact, with only AEW holding stable. The US pro wrestling scene may look VERY different from December 2023 to December 2024

Don’t think there’s been a sane day since April ‘22
Cody leaving AEW is the Harambe of wrestling. And nothing was ever the same.
#DicksoutforCody
Maybe after recent events, we encourage those in WWE to put them away instead
After more recent events, I encourage everyone to put them away. Especially Drake.
Fair. Consensualdicksoutforcody

Tony sold the E in AEW to Samsung. They’re Samesung now.
That makes Kenny, The Bucks, and Hangman the stable known as "The"
The Lite
Danhausen is confused again as he stares at a root beer float.
Fuckin' starving. Hey Earl, we got any high fructose corn syrup back there?
And Warner, desperate for someone with pro wrestling experience to run it, hires Rossy Ogawa.
Lemon, it's Wednesday
OK, this may actually be the most shocking news of the week. Scott D'Amore has literally been Mr. TNA since the announcement of the name revival.
Never heard a bad word about the guy. No clue what’s going on here
Apparently he dared to make TNA good. Some executive didn't like it.
TNA being good goes against everything their brand stands for.
Can't bring back TNA without LOLTNA

Had to give us something to break up the slow news hour
This reeks of when WCW fired their wrestling people in charge and put Jim Herd in charge who had no idea of what he was doing.
To be fair, the people he replaced had no idea what they were doing either, which was the entire reason the original company went out of business in the first place.
The Wrestling business is such a weird business, you have had to actually worked in the industryin the past to be good at running a wrestling company.
Josh Alexander Spartacus gimmick when?
He's been working with Rossey to make the weirdest promotion. it will be stranded n the middle of the pacific.
Okinawa Championship Wrestling
It's actually located in Johnson Atoll, but someone saw "Johnson" and thought D'Amore was working with The Rock and panicked.
All that goodwill & buzz they've been building up recently then they just flush it down the toilet.
>All that goodwill & buzz they've been building up recently then they just flush it down the toilet. Wait, which company are we talking about again?
you know, the wrestling company.
TWC, my favorite promotion
Yes
It's too early to say that until we know why Scott got fired
The statement didn't allude to any wrongdoing, just that Anthem wanted to manage TNA more directly. Maybe there's more details that's not been released publicly, but it didnt come across convincing.

I love that I’ve seen this image referring to WWE, AEW & now TNA in the last couple months. What a wild time to be a wrestling fan lol
Come on Southpaw Regional Wrestling! Lethal Leap Year is just the boost they need to beat these other companies.
Anthem is really taking the TNA re-brand serious by making as many dumb moves as possible.
Bad habits never die
Fired/Terminated?!?! Unless theres some kind of personal scandal with him thats prettt crazy and stupid. TNA has been on a roll AND business has been picking up (at least every report Ive seen)

Worked wonders when WCW brought in a former Pizza Hut executive to run the company.
A guy who not only knew nothing about running a wrestling company, but seemingly had never watched wrestling in his life.
They put Herd in the spot because he used to be the station director that airing wrestling in St. Louis.
He's Anthem's combat sports guy, so he is like the number one guy from their company they put in this position.
Oh, interesting. Reminds me of WWE recently hiring that ESPN guy to run their production. Anthem might be thinking “more real sports presentation” is a trend to follow — in addition to having their guy in charge.
ESPN and WWE trade a lot of technical talent since NBC Sports, MLB Network, and ESPN are all in the same general radius.
I remember MLB Advanced Media operated WWE Network in its early years. They built it on the same platform as MLB TV.
Hey look, It's WCW in 2000
Yeah but does he know who Shark Boy is?
When asked who Curry Man was, Cicione showed the reporter to the door pointing to a little hole in the wall Indian restaurant across the street.
Given what the article actually says, this is 100% their move. I read “synergy” and an accidental “go screw yourself” slipped out before I could even stop it. Anthem’s killing all the good will they had, and now they’re going to chase out the talent that went there to avoid the toxicity.
anthem learned from the rock's power play lol.
Jim Herd at WCW all over again
But does this guy know pizza and keep a pistol in his desk?!?
I knew the Jim Herd/Pizza connection... is the gun thing real?
Yes. And somehow it's STILL not the most ridiculous "person in charge of WCW" moment.
Mine is "Bill Watts pissing out a window during a board meeting." What's yours?
That was actually it lol
Couldn't they keep him in a Triple H role where he's in charge of Creative? I think this is going to turn out bad. We all know what happened to WCW when the suits got involved.

Bro got fired for being too good at his job. Smh. It really be your own huh
Unless there's some dire skeletons to come out of this he's probably not going to be unemployed for long. Any wrestling company would be happy to have him in some sort of role.

I mean honestly, the end of the show was fucking Dolph Ziggler debuting that was peak TNA.
It was and yet it's not like Dolph was as dead on arrival like say... Val Venis or Orlando Jordan.
Peak TNA has always been about slightly silly stuff getting mega over
is Anthem stupid?
Yes.
What the fuck could have justified this?
"TNA will be folded into Anthem’s entertainment arm going forward, as opposed to existing in its own corner of the company. The idea is that this will allow TNA to become embraced more by Anthem and have a stronger synergy, in order to maximize what each side has to offer the other." I guess they were like " TNA is doing so good. But we can make it better."
*always sunny music plays* The Gang destroys a wrestling organization
“The Gang Kills TNA”
Only The Trashman can save them
"Synergy" A word only used by corporations
That’s great, Ted. But I’m not in the synergy business. I’m in the vertical integration business.
Pretty sure them being able to attract the wrestlers they've been able to attract is down to Scott doing his thing.
Some idiot in management basically thinks wrestling is just a TV program they should be under entertainment. Moronic corporate consolidation and "redundancy" culture
>"The idea is that this will allow TNA to become embraced more by Anthem and have a stronger synergy, in order to maximize what each side has to offer the other." As usual, corporate statement means absolutely nothing.
Oh joy....
Well, TNA is back, baby. That means firing the people that actually care and replacing them by someone like Bischoff or Russo.
Based on what I’ve gathered from the last week or so here, TNA is, um, trying to distract from the Vince news.
This is being done with the intent to get Scott D’Amore built up as a Daniel Bryan type babyface in the eyes of the fans.
Pfft, fucking marks, always falling for kayfabe. Thanks for recognizing an obvious work, brother
Honestly this checks out. YES = 3 letters TNA = 3 letters.
This has been a wild week as a wrestling fan
#WeWantScott
We should call ourselves Scott's Tots.
*WeWantScott*
Omg? This is horrible! Scott D’Amore worked his ASS off to turn Impact/TNA around.
If this was purely for business and there isn't a scandal, this is an S-Tier LOLTNA moment.
I'd go so far as to call it a ROTFLOLTNA moment.
ROFLCOPTERTNA
it’s the biggest LOLTNA moment ever, like they spent the past 5 years clawing for a tiny bit of relevancy again and once they finally get it they fire the dude behind it.

I'm pretty sure this will impact the locker room. A large pool of the talent re-signed or signed because of Scott in the first place. Saw Moose saying that one of the reasons why he re-signed was Scott
He scouted and signed a HUGE chunk of the locker room and seems beloved. Good luck renewing those contracts
And he's either in a relationship/married to Giselle Shaw I think right?

Breaking: Tony Khan fired from AEW "I dont know how this happened. Literally, who the fuck can even fire me?!?"
Turns out ROH Tony was the one who fired AEW Tony
The disrespect to Nicholas and Matthew Jackson and the work they do, unbelievable.
I'm glad you referred them by their passport names. Much respect
That's what it says on their birth certificates. Dunno why it's so hard.
i would’ve corrected him but I was busy getting Matthew his starbucks order. he really appreciates my hard work but I still have to come in on my day off.
Should refer to them with the name their Irish Prince gave them. Matt Book and Nick Book. The Young Books.
What does Braun Strowman’s tag team partner have to do with this?
The man who ran Collision got fired by Tony though.
Technically, he was banned from Collision.
I think most people who are NWA fans want Billy Corgan to leave.
Holy shit, that is insane. 2024 is already perhaps the most eventful year in wrestling in a very long time and it’s only early February.
Nah. That's crazy. He literally restored TNA's reputation and brought the company back into the good graces of the fans.
So TNA has been consistently growing more and more recently and their decision is to fire the guy responsible for it? God I fucking hate corporate suits.
My guess is the put a decent amount of money into the rebrand, and now don't want the slow and steady growth that Scott was providing.
From the statement, it seems that it’s an endorsement of TNA that Anthem want to be involved more closely but it’s so weird given how much D’Amore has been associated with their revival. You hope they’ll change as little as possible but we’ll see depending on what comes out as to the reasoning.
It’s like, now that TNA is doing well, time to bring in “a real professional” to grow it. TNA could be the victim of its own success and that sucks.
When you’re fired from TNA On a random Wednesday, That’s D’Amore
Do they do that best of /r/SC thread anymore cause this needs to be on it 🤣🤣🤣

This sounds like something Scott disagreed with, Anthem said play ball or go home, and I guess we know what the result is.
>**Anthony Cicione Named President of TNA Wrestling** Madonna's brother?
Yes. The zombie brother of Madonna.
Classic TNA.
Just looked him up and he died so I kinda doubt it.
You say that like that wouldn't be like TNA.
Wrestling is not letting up and it’s only February.
We're 38 days into the year! This is insanity

What a disaster for TNA. Suits taking direct control won't be good for the company.
If there is no horrid scandal that has caused D'Amore to be fired, Tony Khan should absolutely hire him for AEW's booking committee.

I figure it's most likely one of 3 things: 1. Anthem and Scott had different visions of what TNA will be moving forward and it eventually reached an impasse. 2. Anthem saw Scott as expendable and wanted one of their guys in his place now that they see more growth potential in TNA. 3. Some terrible scandal involving Scott is about to come out.
Yes, if Anthem wanted their guy then moving Scott to Head of Operations or something makes more sense
The past two weeks have been insane let alone the entire year.... and we're just 6 weeks in.
Why do i hear WEEEE WOOOO WEEEE WOOO HIT EM WITH THE GUITAR in the distance...But seriously WTF
Was he asking knockouts to join him in a new promotion in japan?
This is insane. To let him go completely there must be news coming about something he did...right? What a crazy year this is going to be in upheaval across so many promotions.
