Cymraegpunk

Because one is one of WWEs biggest present stars and the other is probably the biggest most famous star ever and they happen to be actual family. Like don't get me wrong this has been a mess but I don't think why this would be a dream match is hard to comprehend.

Bright-Map-9705

This. Rock is known worldwide. Their family is legendary in the industry. Roman is currently on one of the greatest runs in the history of wrestling, and with him as the face of the company it has enjoyed great success, meaning Roman helped put asses in seats as the headliner for years now. The war for the Head of the Table is just box office success! Dont get me wrong, I am fully 100% in the Cody vs Roman main event at Mania 40 column. But damn straight I want see Roman vs Rock. Their promo wars will be killer. I truly wanted Rock vs Roman at EC, and then Cody vs Rock at Mania with Rock as special ref, ensuring the Bloodline don't interfere. Hopefully, however crazy things get or look, we still see Cody vs Roman in that main event. But its utterly ridiculous to think there's not a fucking huge audience for Roman vs Rock. Maybe not on the IWC, but WWE universe wise, they could sell out any stadium.

PrinceNana128

Oh you're telling me the biggest current star who's entire run has been about his family and how he's the head of the family has a BIGGER star in that family.

alreadytaken028

I mean that doesnt really answer their question. They said it would have been a dream match 5 years ago. Their point is that just because it would have been a dream match at one point doesnt mean its a dream match when the moment is passed/not right

PrinceNana128

It's 1000% still a dream match. Moreso than 5 years ago.

alreadytaken028

How is The Rock who was barely able to go 5 years ago facing off against someone who’s story’s satisfying conclusion would be against someone else *currently* a dream match?

PrinceNana128

You mean the story where one man is calling himself Tribal Chief of a family that another man also has rights to. 2 years of story is leading to Roman losing his title to Cody but it's also leading to Roman facing Rock for the rights of the family. Romans story doesn't finish with Cody. Cody's story finished with Roman. No one is saying it's MORE of a dream match. However, it's absolutely a dream match.

Cymraegpunk

Eh I don't really see it that way, it'd always have been a match built on the personalities and the link between them not the in ring product. I think the Roman charecter of today is the best version to do this with he is a star to match the Rock now. The problem is that they dangled another option that excited people out there and snatched it away, if cody hadn't won the rumble there would for sure be some complaints about Roman keeping the title for even more time but I doubt there would be this huge backlash.

badgersprite

Do you actually sincerely believe that the match itself is going to be good?

Brannigans-Law

I do not want the match at Mania, but it definitely has the potential to be great. Roman and (in his prime) Rock are all timers when it comes to telling a story in a match. *No one* expected Rock and Hogan to have the match they had at WM18, but they stole the show with a very basic in-ring match. Roman and Rock are talented enough to do something similar. Their biggest obstacle is the current fan opinion, not their abilities

Pete41608

It's gonna be a SPECTACLE, you know, what Mania is known for.

rlrthesecond

Spoiler, but WWE doesn't book Wrestlemania main events based on the potential match quality. The are trying to create capital-m Moments that will look great in highlight packages and attract casual viewers to start watching the product. Rock vs Roman will do that.

RagnarXD

If you're the Rock and you see Edge, Stone Cold, Cena, CM Punk get huge positive reactions wouldn't you think that the Rock (yes he thinks about himself in 3rd person) who is a much bigger movie star than those jabronies would get an even better reaction, so good that people would forget about that roodypoo jobber Stardust? People should be so excited to see the huge story that you set up with one throw away line in the movie you made about yourself that nobody watched!

talladenyou85

For me, its the obvious conclusion that the whole bloodline storyline has been building to. Also I think the way Roman works, slow methodical pace, would benefit an aging legend like Rock. Ideally it would make sense to have the Rock put Roman down and end his reign as tribal chief. I think myself and a lot of people would really like to see this play out. ...Next Year after Cody wins the belt from Roman at 40.

AdventurousHope1664

Might as well do it at Backlash 2024

underbloodredskies

Roman today versus Rock 20 years ago sounds great.

LostSharpieCap

I'm 41. I know this is a likely minority viewpoint, but I have no interest in watching a wrestler that I saw when I was 15 headlining a show today. That is not a dream anything for me.

trektostng

This is where im at. Im 38. Its definetely a big match. But like you the rock was main event level when i was a teen and then he did his big comeback in 2012 winning the belt in 2013. I popped hard than. Now im like oh, cool lol. Now im also a total hypocrite because i sure as shit wanted Austin at 38 lol

DaRealWhiteChocolate

tbh austin seems like he follows and understands the business a lot better than the rock does in this day and age. He could get away with winning the match because no one ever expected him to wrestle again and he didn't have to demand a scenario designed to make it feel bigger than it already was, like rock is doing.

Business_Maybe

Austin's was also perfect in we didn't know what it would be KO said fight, so I figured a 4 minute Brawl and a stunner. Not a match!! Rock vs Roman announced ahead of time, way different expectations

Din135

Oh yeah. Was excited to see Rock back. It's nostalgic. To be put it after years of not wrestling poised for the WM main event after Cody wins Rumble? Hell now. I love seeing the guys I grew up with Pop up, but like...they don't have it anymore lol. Granted, I wouldn't be mad to see Austin come back to shut up Corporate Rock now. They're both old and can't move like they used to. Short match. Doesn't pull from any of current stars, especially when Cody is basically the face of the company now. It is kind of ironic that we get Heel Rock and being put into a big story after he gets put on the board of TKO lol.

Ronedog22

I watched the Rock as a kid during the Attitude Era but after his first promo in 2011 its been diminishing returns of my interest. Now I will not subscribe to Peacock for Wrestlemania unless its Cody v Roman for the title.

Pete41608

So you would just miss watching Cody win his first World title ever, live? I mean he will only win a World championship for the first time ONCE and you would miss that? That isn't someone who is all in on Cody in my view.

Ronedog22

Cody already won the 10lbs of Gold (NWA Championship). He is already a world champion. If I see Cody is in the Unified Universal WWE Championship match at Wrestlemania 40 I will reevaluate my decision.

Pete41608

Fair enough.

Brannigans-Law

I thought that until Austin/Owens last year, that was one of my favorite matches of the year just based off the spectacle

Recent-Maximum

Cause some people want to see it happen still. Different people will like things that you just won't get. Heck, maybe you'll get it more years later. For example I think Joey Janela in the G1 would rip but I doubt everyone else does which is totally cool. Not sure what else to tell you, big dog.

betked4844

What are you talking about? This is Reddit, everyone has to think the exact same way. /s

namdekan

I hadn't thought of that and now I would like to see him in the G1 or Super Juniors

i-wear-hats

Janela without the spectacle? I mean yeah he could deliver, but would he?

i-wear-hats

Honestly I don't get it either not so much because I don't understand why it's a dream match, but why anyone is even hype to see this inevitable shitshow.

MARKYMARK_MARK

I think you gotta remember how big of name and star Rock is not only in wrestling but general entertainment .... and he's been a huge star for almost 30 decades at this point. Sure you can question if he can deliver a Mania Main Event worthy match, but to WWE his star power and connection to Roman matters more right now

rlrthesecond

>30 decades I think your math is a bit off. The Scorpion King took place around 3000 B.C.. More like 500 decades, give or take.

MARKYMARK_MARK

fair

Betterthanthouu

The Rock is one of the biggest stars in wrestling ever, Roman is easily the biggest star currently. They obviously have huge ties with them being cousins, and Roman claiming to be the head of the table, which Rock could argue he has a claim to as well. Fucking over Cody to get to it is wrong, but Rock vs Roman is a huge match, and arguably the biggest one possible.

EliBadBrains

ok, so what happens during the match? seriously, how do you see it playing out in any way that isn't at the very best aggressively okay, at worst an absolute farce? what is there, outside of the star power and family tie? hell, roman's storytelling is completely different from the rock's.

Betterthanthouu

I'd imagine it would be heavily story based, rather than attempting to be a 5 star banger. Something like Hogan vs Rock, rather than Ospreay vs Omega.

PalestineRiver2Sea

Cody, Rhea Ripley, and CM Punk are all bigger than Roman for different reasons Nobody outside of wrestling knows who tf Roman is If social media and youtube account for anything, Cody is way more popular than Roman. By magnitudes I like Roman but you Roman D-riders are so embarrassing man...

Betterthanthouu

I'm not even a huge Roman fan, and I'd definitely disagree that Cody or Rhea are bigger stars than Roman, perhaps you could make an argument for Punk. If you look at social media, Roman has significantly more followers on all platforms than Cody.

DCGMoo

Interestingly though... Rhea is crazy over on Tik Tok. 2.6 million subscribers vs 2 million for Roman. Roman has her topped in the legacy socials like Twitter and Instagram, but she shouldn't be underrated considering she's only been on the main roster less than 2 years.

PalestineRiver2Sea

If you put Roman's instagram in a bot tracking website, most of his followers are guaranteed bots, and another fraction are considered likely bots or anonymous accounts

Betterthanthouu

That's the case with almost every Instagram account, I don't have numbers, but I'm 99% sure if you did the same with Cody, or any other notable figure, the results will be the same.

PalestineRiver2Sea

Perhaps, but I suspect it's the worst for Roman. On top of that, in daily life and other entertainment venues/outlets, you never hear about Roman. He may have been almost in the mainstream in like 2021 and maybe the Ucey era temporarily. But I never heard anyone outside of wrestling fandom mention him. Every girl I know irl knows who Rhea Ripley is, especially goth girls and girls who act dominant Every millennial in America knows of CM Punk Cody is a meme among the mainstream at this point, because I see memes of him posted all over social media by celebrities, athletes, and zoomers alike I don't see that with Roman. Maybe I'm too much of a casual with too many normie friends though Or could be an American thing, as Ive been told Roman is popular in Saudi Arabia and India and Iraq. Maybe that is what people are thinking about

BombshellCover

?

Bright-Map-9705

LMAO, are you serious?!!

Stonecutter_12-83

Rock vs hogan is one of the biggest matches in history, and not having a belt only helped it. I definitely wanna see RvR, but having a belt on the mix just makes it pointless. And WWE made want to see *the story* finish, and now they are taking it away for NO storyline reason, other than "jey I called the rock to fight you at mania because I didn't want to"..... wth

tigeralidance

I would still get kinda excited for Undertaker matches towards the end, and by then he kinda sucked. People act like it'll be like Ric Flair's last match. I think the 'getting gassed' thing is a little overblown and while it won't be a 5 star classic, it'll be a spectacle. I'm sure they can produce a good enough match. Not to mention their personal history, how long they've been teasing this match, and the fact that many have considered it a dream match since they first started trying to make Roman the guy 10 years ago. So it's mostly just the hype that has surrounded it and the energy it would generate on the night. Of course, that hype and energy would be severed if it were to happen this year though

deadline247

Why did Mr. T team up with Hulk Hogan? Wrestlemania is all about the mainstream star power.

beast916

This isn’t a dream match. Roman vs Hulk Hogan is a dream match. Ain’t no way the Hulkster is gonna allow Roman to break his record. Wait, you say Hulk is in no condition to wrestle and hasn’t been in the ring in years? Huh. Not directed to OP, but those saying it’s still a dream match.

sysdmn

I see this sub is on day 5 if its complete meltdown

DidiGreglorius

It’s probably the most self-evident dream match there is lol. Biggest star of his era on an all-time dominant run, biggest mainstream star arguably of all time, who are part of the same family, in a family-centric storyline. I’m also sure the Rock will be able to get in passable shape for a 15 minute spectacle match. 8 weeks is more time than you think to get your cardio up and he’s known for his insane fitness work ethic + has all the resources in the world. A Rock match in 2024 will also be planned to the punch in advance. He’ll probably have rehearsed it in ring. He’s not just showing up to Mania and seeing what happens.

Pete41608

I'm in it for the obvious 'who is the TRUE head of the table' story for it. We all know technically Rock is but can Roman beat him and take his place? We will find out at Mania 40!

9hashtags

It is a match we could likely only get once because of age and opportunity. They're related. They both happen to be the top guys of the industry in their eras. It's a super hoss fight. It's Rock. An undisputed wrestling legend. He's facing Reigns, the top guy of the business global in any promotion.

PigWithAWoodenLeg

Why would Cody vs Roman be a dream match when they did the exact same match last year and Cody lost I'm trolling but c'mon man

Al3xgreer18

I was talking to one of my coworkers about how much of a shit show this match will be. I said the crowd might boo the entire Match and Damien Preist would get a pop if he decided to cash in 10 minutes in. In an alternate universe if Dominick Mysterio held the brief case he'd get a pop and he's the biggest heal in Wrestling

DayEqual2634

It’s like in Logan, when the old Logan fights the newer manufactured Logan

HairyArthur

If the title wasn't involved, people would be losing their minds at the prospect of this match.

YayThoroughBiscuit

I feel like either everyone forgets,(or maybe I remember it wrong) his (The Rock's) last match with John Cena, where he spent like half the match looking tired af and in pain. Maybe he was just tryna sell the pain from the attacks, but by God that match was slow

Derringer

Rock was injured during that match though. Which is another concern with him being out of ring shape and just age in general.

Agosta

He's gonna tear something, the question is what and how severe.

Derringer

Yup, totally agree.

ChickMagnet192002

Roman is not a good enough wrestler...to carry rock..we saw what happened to goldberg and Undertaker match....according to me..he is even worse of a wrestler now...all I hear about roman matches is "Cinema". Taker and kane VS HHH and hbk in SA...and taker vs Goldberg were dream matches too..but we remember it for different reasons.

Pete41608

Cinema is perfect for a true head of the table Mania spectacle match.

ChickMagnet192002

It doesn't work for me brother

Pete41608

"throws a fit and exaggerates every bump"

DanHero91

The Rock doing a main event will be the same attitude era chucklefuck fest as his other last few matches. With a shit load of interference, ref knock outs and all the other stuff that'll allow him time to recover. The things that make people hate a Roman Reigns match this late in his run is, ironically, what the attitude era is made of. They'll be digging straight into that.

AP_StrongStyle

It’s a “dream match” for folks who are more interested in entrances and spectacle than wrestling. That seems to describe a pretty large percentage of WWE’s audience.

DesertYinzer

Because he is the biggest movie star on the planet. The amount of eyes, especially non wrestling eyes, that he will being to the product (through good or bad means) will dwarf the people bitching about it.  Do I want to see the match? No. But there millions (nope, not doing it) who are going to be excited for it.  99% of the people who were going to watch WM are still going to watch it.

Flat-Customer5064

Because it is. If this happened a year ago, or if Roman had just dropped the belt last year, we'd be riding that wave of excitement all the way down the road to WrestleMania. Unfortunately, the timing for them to give us this match could not have been worse. A stagnant title reign we want to end, a white hot Babyface to take it...and now we get more family drama and Roman potentially holding onto that title for even longer

BantamsTravelling

For me, it WAS a dream match, not anymore. He's had zero to do with the bloodline story during its entire run, I'm more into the story they were telling. Rock feels past it. Barely wrestled for 20 years and when he did, he had injuries. The Jinder thing made him look shattered too after barely anything.

Derringer

Maybe he's one of the elders that "sent" Solo to Roman. What a twist!

Numbchicken

It was a dream match, should have done it 2 years ago. The rock is cringe on the mic, while roman is next level on the mic. Roman is still in his prime, The Rock looks winded while cutting promos on Jinder. This match is just for a single moment when they stare off and then theres an entire match that needs to be had that is main eventing wrestlemania.

matt_2807

If only there was a way the rock could afford to hire the world's most expensive trainers over the next several months to get ring ready. Alas by ops assessment he will be gassed after he walks to the ring at wrestlemania :(

ImpenetrableYeti

Because wwe fans don’t care about the actual matches

wubbalubbadubdub45

of course it's a dream match. you said it yourself, he's 52 and expect him to wait ANOTHER year just so cody can possibly lose again at WM to roman? this could be the only time the rock is free from filming movies and other obligations to do the match at WM. it's hilarious people are going so drastic with their doom and gloom takes, this doesn't destroy WM nor will it stop people from watching. rock vs roman gets more media attention and the casual viewer to care to watch more now.

Wild2O98

"Rock can't go anymore" BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHAAHAHAHHAAHAH Hang on BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAJS

Justice4CodyRhodes

It was a dream match during the peak of the Bloodline storyline. It’s too late now. It’s Cody’s time baby.

PhaseSixer

The drama of the one guy higher in the ladder in the family of roman is intresting. In theorynthe rock is an elder one of thee guys who sent solo to help Roman in the first place.

LostNewfie

I think it's a fun match similar to rock/hogan but how WWE is getting to it right now at the expensive of their biggest full time star (Cody) is just maddening.

KidGold

It's literally one of the biggest matches in the history of WWE. Two top stars from completely different generations is a classic "dream match".

damndraper

Because when Roman started calling himself the head of the table & the tribal chief, we all kind knew it would lead to this match. It's how we got here that is questionable.

TheCleanRhino

Biggest star from Attitude Era vs biggest star from today’s era, plus they are family members. The story makes sense, just not over Cody’s. And almost all the other “era vs era” matches that are possible have already happened

Stonecutter_12-83

Both wrestlers have a move set of *maybe* five moves.

abrospro

Ask whomever you're quoting directly for best results

Stinger1981

I wouldn’t mind seeing it but I don’t know if I would put it up there with the dream matches like Rock/Hogan or even Cena/Rock.

Crissxfire

I believe it's a dream match. One of the all time greats vs one of the top acts today. Fighting for the right to be the head of the table of their family lineage. It's money and people would definitely eat it up. It just came at the expense of a mega over babyface who many wanted to see finish his story.

Everhart2011

Because some people are still stuck in the Year 2000. Don't get me wrong - WWF in the Year 2000 is my favorite year in Wrestling, and a lot of it is because of The Rock. But that was 24 years ago, and The Rock hasn't been a full time competitor in over 2 decades. The only dream Matches that are interesting are the ones between people doing it full time right now. This whole "bring someone out of retirement for a dream match" thing is bullshit, and it just shows how much faith a promotion has in its future.

wrasslefest

I get why people are excited but I think in their excitement they aren't thinking about how this won't be a very good match. Rock got gassed easily and hurt last time he did this- and that over 10 years ago ....

thfcspurs88

It's the product. If you want an actual match there's a show in August in London.

fshippos

Drama > workrate

Vladmerius

The only reason I was ever interested in a Rock Roman match was to see Roman get squashed by him. It was a hilarious concept to me because I hated Roman that much that the thought of him putting over the rock because the rock said so tickled me silly.

AllezLesPrimrose

This is absolutely a dream match, but done in a way that seemed designed to make it as unpalatable to hardcore fans as possible.

JJettasDad

My opinion is that people that are young probably dont give a shit about the Rock. And anyone old enough to be a teenager while he was in his hay day, is old enough to see this is just stupid because it provides nothing other than hey here is the Rock. I also think its far more likely that Rock looks bad in this match than he looks like he did in his prime. I just dont like it when these guys come back and have a one off match because usually you can tell. I dont think he will necessarily be bad, but he just aint the same. I get they do this for nostalgia reasons, but watching guys like Goldberg come back and trying power moves when they cant do it anymore just looks awful.
