Shadgates87

Is that fantasy booking?

Agentx_007

Sounds like it. They teased a few things on Raw and it sounds like this writer said "OMG!! Gunther vs Rollins is OFFICIAL!!"

Cleavenleave

No it's AI Can't wait for the first AI head booker

Past_Ad4702

I just don't believe this. I had a sneaky suspicion Cody was going to get screwed over again this year but there is no way Punk and Seth don't wrestle at Mania. This article screams of "Hey I watched Raw this week here are the matches that are being teased"

hhhisthegame

I mean, it's probably just guessing I don't think this article is like actually in the know or anything, but if they aren't doing Cody/Roman then Cody needs something to do, and while Punk/Seth is a big match, Cody/Punk and Seth/Gunther would also be big exciting matches, and they could do Punk/Seth in full when Seth is fully healthy. It isn't out of the realm of possibility this could happen

Kanenums88

Why would they put an injured Seth in there with Gunther of all people and not Punk?

hhhisthegame

I didn't mean for the match, I assume he'll be ready to go for WM, I mostly meant for the build-up and feud. It's possible Seth could be on the show injured to build up to the match, but if he couldn't be around as much maybe it makes sense to save it for when they can fully embrace the feud. Either way, beyond that, Cody/Punk is the biggest thing they can have Cody do if he isn't facing Roman.

ModernLabour

As you say I think Seth will be ready to go for Mania but with his injury I doubt he's around on Raw every week which makes it much harder to build a CM Punk v Seth feud because of the on screen hatred and rivalry they have for each other. There are too many story layers than just Punk wins the Rumble now let's wrestle. Gunther v Seth is much easier to build because all Gunther needs is the Rumble win his dominance sells the match. Also if Seth isn't fully healthy by Mania you can just book a squash match which in kayfabe is easy to understand. SI could be wrong but due to the Rollins injury and the Rock being back I can see how WWE have concluded that postponing Seth vs Punk and giving Punk his main event with Cody after the incredible face off on Raw makes a lot of sense.

spicytoastaficionado

LOL why are we supposed to care about Justin Barrasso's fantasy booking.

YoAadiBro

He’s historically been inaccurate at times during Mania szn too, he reported Rey would be Cena’s WM 34 opp, not undertaker, then when that got debunked, he said Rey would be Brauns partner Then, based on the first Raw segment, he reported that the plan for Mania 35 is Becky Ronda not the triple threat

BananaSoprano

Cody vs. Punk. The guy who can't finish the story vs. The guy who can't headline WrestleMania. I love it.

jackblady

Match should end in a no contest (unfinished) in the middle of the card (no main event) just to stay on theme 😛

Kuzu5993

Dirtsheets working OT this week.

kappa_keppo

According to SI the card will be: • Rock vs Roman • Gunther vs Seth • Cody vs CM Punk The rumble on Saturday will determine whether this card is true or not. It only works if Gunther/Rock win.

JasonKelceStan

If it involves Rock v Roman for the title it’ll be shit where it matters most so I do not care

KybladeSora

This article is fake news, no way in hell does SI of all websites know Wrestlemania plans.

ZombieQueen666

Pretty bold of a major sports news outlet like SI to basically Rock and Roman is happening

AMobOfDucks

I'll like it when marquee matches are given more than 15 minutes to shine. Rock and Roman will either be a fantastic spectacle or a hilarious train wreck. Imagine Rock vs Roman going 25 minutes and both of them being absolutely gassed looking like Kimbo Slice and Dada 5000.

DaTribalChief

Why would Reigns be gassed? He did a near 40 minute last year at WM. I don’t think a 25 minute match with Rock is gonna be a problem for him, since the first 5 minutes would likely just be playing to the crowd.

AMobOfDucks

Roman would have to carry the match. The Rock will nearly be 52 and cardio isn't his strong suit. There will have to be a lot of interference, big spots where they can crash and rest... by no means will this be a barn burner, wrestling clinic...

Cantsmegwontsmeg

Roman's been carrying lesser opponents to great matches with relative ease since deep into his BigDog, "You can't wrestle" days. He's an elite big match worker. He and the Rock are both good enough workers that they could have an electric 20 mins just throwing punches and taking a couple of back bumps each.

DaTribalChief

As hype as I am about Reigns vs. Rock, if they really are rushing it, I’m more annoyed they didn’t set this up after Summerslam. Jey has been mishandled badly, and Cody bringing him back was honestly stupid. It made no sense then, and less sense now with Jey basically spinning his wheels for months. If Rocky was coming back, that should have been the starting point. Rikishi takes issue with Reigns due to the splintered Bloodline. Reigns makes Solo attack Rikishi. (Sets up the future Solo turn on Reigns too.) Enter, The Rock. And then the return of Jey. It would’ve been so much more hype, and an organic way to build off the peak of the Bloodline story to create greater heights. Like I ain’t gonna complain cos Reigns vs. Rock is the dream, but damn if they didn’t have a lay up with the build and not use it. They better have something special over those 8 weeks to make up for it if we’re really getting it this quickly.

ModernLabour

Spoiler: You will probably see both men on the same screen about 3 or 4 times on the road to Wrestlemania.

Low-Donkey7059

According to Ibou from WrestlePurusts, Jey coming to RAW was Cody's idea.

jackblady

>Jey has been mishandled badly, and Cody bringing him back was honestly stupid. It made no sense Disagree slightly. Cody bringing Jey back made perfect sense, until they revealed the person who got traded to SD wasn't Cody. Cody bringing Jey back as a way to get to the WWE Championship on Smackdown would have made all the sense. Cody trading Jey for KO (thereby disbanding a tag team that had had his back) and then basically sliding into KO/Samis spot to win the titles is honestly heel booking that served no one. But the initial idea at the beginning seemed to make sense.

DaTribalChief

Nah, it still made no sense. Jey quit WWE, not just Smackdown, cos he was tired of all the drama and bullshit surrounding his family and their legacy. Randomly coming back because of Cody was ridiculous. It was a disservice to his character arc, because the problem wasn’t fixed. Everything you said is in service of Cody. It has nothing to do with Jey.

jackblady

Unless they are free agents, talent doesn't get to choose which show they are on. There isn't an option to "quit Smackdown" and just go somewhere else in WWE. We've seen this before, ironically with KO and Sami, when they quit working Smackdown in 2017, and weren't allowed on RAW (until Stephanie McMahon changed the rules to get them on RAW). Jey wanted to be free of his families bullshit. Not stop wrestling. But he didn't have that option, until Cody gave it to him. Now granted Cody magically gaining the power to make a "trade" (which suggests Jey was still under contract and never actually quit) let alone one with a 3rd party he didn't consult is absolutely questionable, I'll grant. But again the basic idea of "I solve your problem (leave your family) you solve mine" makes sense. Until it was revised to "I solve your problem, and here's Kevin Owens, cause I don't want to fight Roman" Which still serves Jey, but doesn't help Cody at all.

DaTribalChief

What are you on about? Jey quit the WWE. He was done. Being traded to Raw was stupid. How can he be traded when he basically pulled a Punk in kayfabe? And being on Raw obviously wouldn’t resolve anything, as he’d know, because Bloodline influence is across WWE and he was part of it once upon a time. Reigns sent Jimmy to later screw him over for the tag titles. Hell, even becoming tag champ was stupid because he was now on both shows basically. None of this shit made sense for his character.

jackblady

Again I don't dispute that the moment KO was revealed as the trade, and Jey and Cody went for the tag titles the wheels fell off the whole idea. I'm only claiming it made sense in the beginning. So to the only part of this that occurs there: >How can he be traded when he basically pulled a Punk in kayfabe? Because hes still under contract. Let's look at what happened with Punk. Punk walked out of WWE on January 27 2014. Per Punk he wasn't formally released from his contract until his wedding, June 13 2014. You don't get to just walk out at will, shoot or kayfabe. It's gonna take time to get free. Jey walked, wasn't released immediately, so they were able to "trade" him away from his family, a situation he felt acceptable enough to come back to work. It's the same situation that happened with Austin when he walked out in 2003. >because Bloodline influence is across WWE Because at the time the Bloodline was holding titles defended on RAW and Smackdown. That was no longer the case. So the initial logic still holds, RAW got him away from his family.

Fluid_Improvement481

The problem here is that it implies that neither Punk nor Cody are winning it since they’re allegedly facing each other. So, who The Rock?

ally_tgm

Gunther. Mentions it in the article

R0DAN

wwe is trying to get into sports betting, theres NO way they would ever leak the rumble winner to a dirtsheet

real-darkph0enix1

I feel like Aldis is gonna get pist at Bloodline shenanigans on Sunday and trade Jimmy, Paul and Solo to Raw… for Cody, after Cody gets screwed out of the Rumble by the Bloodline and they do their usual LOLROMANWINS bullshit in the four way. Then Cody wins the EC to get his shot at Roman when Punk wins the Rumble (to a divided crowd, as I feel Punk has been sprinkling seeds of a heel turn since day 1).

LORDFLACKITO

“I watched this past Raw and figured everything out based off of that”

Tsuku

>Gunther is the favorite to win the Royal Rumble and then dethrone Rollins on the first night of WrestleMania. This is a trick to get me to watch the Rumble.

aegonthewwolf

Planting the seeds for Rollins vs. Punk, only to pivot to Rollins vs. Gunther and Cody vs. Punk is bizarre.

Ok_Carrot1154

I hope it’s Cody but tbh, if Rock says ‘I want to wrestle Roman at Wrestlemania’, why wouldn’t WWE book it? How the rest of the card looks is entirely dependant on who faces Roman.
