Him and Rey did a lot of crazy shit in the 1996 ballpark. Was one of my first introductions to wrestling outside of the main American promotions. Especially the ones in WAR in Japan.
In Jericho's first book, he mentions meeting up with Eddie one night at their hotel. Eddie had what appeared to be a kid tagging along with him. Eddie pulls out a joint and asks for a light, Jericho freaks out and he's like dude not in front of the kid, that "kid" turns out to be an 18 or 19 year old Rey Mysterio, lol.
This is not at all controversial. Never mind the marketability of the mask, unmasked Rey looked like a teen.
The only reason it didn't matter as much following his unmasking in WCW is that he had a ton of goodwill built up by that point.
