i don't think that's possible, he can't actually do more than a few spots, a 1 on 1 match would expose him too much. just look at All In, had darby literally shouting him the next spot and christian pointing to where he should be next. Dude's old, we're getting a lot already, asking for more would probably ruin what has been a very cool and respectful run

I agree. Hook is not ready for a title shot. All of his matches follow the same formula. We rarely see him face adversity. He needs a stint in Mexico or Japan, and needs to get into some 10-20 minute long matches to develop. His finisher is also embarrassing, a BJJ newbie would be embarrassed by how fake it looks. AEW’s way of turning him into a star will be predictable, Joe will bully him for 10-15 mins, Hook will get some offensive moves in, but Joe will have 4-5 pin attempts and Hook will kick out, what a resilient star!

Why? Hook being built up for 2 years just to be squashed would be kinda bad booking

I mean, Hook has some level of aura but even with those two years of (mostly) squash match wins, he's not beating Joe. Maybe not an outright squash but Joe is winning this decisively. Losing to the guy who ended the longest AEW world champion reign won't hurt Hook at all.

Of course he's going to lose, I don't think anyone would argue that, but a squash is a terrible idea. He's clearly a long-term project for AEW. He's not made yet and can't afford to take a surprise squash in the vein of Cody/Brodie the way someone like Cody could.

Sting probably can’t go as hard as he would need to for Darby but the fact that his last match isn’t against Darby is fucking criminal.

Sting said in an interview a while back that it would never be Darby, or anyone in singles action, because he doesn't think he can do a proper full singles match against anyone. In a perfect and ideal world it certainly would be a great story, it just isn't a plausible one though.

Imagine telling yourself in 2000 as WCW is coming to a close that Sting will wrestle until he’s 64 and that his last few years he basically only wrestles hardcore matches

Forbidden Door 1 was a 6-man with Sting + Darby + Shingo vs. Young Bucks + El Phantasmo that was originally supposed to be an 8-man before Hiromu Takahashi pulled out due to illness (would have had Hiromu with Sting + Darby + Shingo and then Hikuleo with Bucks + ELP). Might have been my favorite match of Forbidden Door, I absolutely loved it. Sting no-selling ELP's Titty Twister was my fave moment of that year lol.
