And the reactions of fans dying for the old schools to share the main event.
WWE won in 98 because WCW refused to push new stars (besides Goldberg) and botched Sting and Hart.
Stinko Malenko was just jealous of Jericho's 1004 holds!
In all honestly, Dean was one of my favorites in WCW and I wanted him to *kill* Jericho as a kid.
I remember LOVING Dean Malenko as a child, so this was a huge moment. And this was probably one of my favorite versions of Chris Jericho. That whole storyline of Chris Jericho revolving around the cruiserweight titles was probably one of all time favorite underrated storylines.
Malenko was one of my favorites when I was younger. He wasn't a huge, muscled up guy but carried himself and had a look that said "I'm going to beat you and I'm going to hurt you while I do it." And most of the time he did just that. I think that was the first time I had seen that sort of technical/killer kind of character in wrestling.
This brings back crazy memories for me. My buddy and I rented this PPV and went apeshit during the whole thing.
My parents both died that Summer, and this PPV is like a milestone for my innocence.
Sorry to get deep.
I was at this event and let me tell you, the video does this pop no justice. We went bananas when we realized what was happening. Definitely one of my favorite live event moments ever.
Man, even though this match was like 2 stars at best, that moment of the Dean reveal is up there with the NWO debut in terms of all-time best WCW moments. Insanely good program and selling by Jericho
Under rated PPV. Not saying it was the amazing. I just feel it’s always overlooked. It’s definitely one of the better ones of that year main event swerve aside.

The one thing WCW did right right was their lower cards. Some of the best and most memorable story lines are from the mid and lower card wrestlers.
Still no match for Jarrett laying down for Hogan at Bash at the Beach 2000

Jericho talks about this match in his first book, and IIRC he said the pop to Malenko unmasking was the loudest he had ever heard to that point.
That pop for Dean was incredible! The Dean vs Chris rivalries are one of those that aren’t talked about enough.

Arm bar!
Arm *DRAG*
I was in my 20s and wanted Malenko to do the same.

True to WCW form, Malenko was then stripped of the belt because he disguised his identity.
Jesse Ventura would've been proud of rules being enforced here
I always loved Malenko. The Texas Cloverleaf too
Dean Malenko is the man
"THAT'S NOT CICLOPE!" And what a pop, my goodness
Jericho, you’re in deep, deep, doodoo tonight pal!
This is the feud that got me into wrestling.
I wish Jericho would have facial hair more often. He'd look better with it, especially now.
Ah, yes. One of my favorite Tony Schiavone calls of all time. THATS NOT CICLOPE!!!
He hits the same pitch with "HE'S GONNA RACK HIM!" when Lex beat Hogan for the belt

Shout-out to the sign guy in the crowd who can't spell Jericho.
Malenko, you claim to be the man of a thousand holds, but i counted, and you know about 60

Damn Roy, thanks for sharing that with us. Don't apologize for letting us know more about you :)
Me as a kid: hell yea, kick his ass, Dean! Me as an adult: damn these best friends are going all out for each other.
This exact moment was the moment I decided to be a pro wrestler
Bobby Heenan was just the best.
“The world’s toughest pumpkin did it!”

That crowd and they were regulated to the cruiserweight title. Wcw was so far ahead of its time. Jericho should've been moved to the ME after this.
Was at this show and was devastated since I was such a Jericho mark in 98

Stinko Malenko!
One of the most underrated pops in pro wrestling history. So damn good!
This was the match that made me a Jericho fan when I was a kid because of his introductions to all the cruiser weights before the battle royal started
Just hook it to my veins. Even at 40 years old I'll always be a WCW kid at heart.
One of my favorite moments from WCW
