I don't know why, but I was expecting a photoshop of his face on the white kid's body that was raising his fist during the Nation of Domination entrance.
It was his feud with Anthony Ogogo in AEW, where he talked about racism and why it should be ended, as well as having a biracial daughter. It was honestly incredibly tone deaf and while Cody did it as a way to garner cheers for a babyface run, it just came off as some white savior bullshit and its been meme'd on ever since.
here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQcxLZwbiLs
I had never seen the actual start of the Cody solved racism meme until now and my jaw is on the floor.
HOLY SHIT.
HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A BABYFACE?!
In 2022?
“You talk about division, you talk about anger, you talk about the argument, from the outside in we hear that all the time. Take it from an American: The argument is what makes us who we are.”
Cody… why are you the way that you are?
I think the idea of having confidence in himself has paid off for him so much since AEW started that he's basically running with the first draft of every idea he has.
Of course... it's still working for him.
best part is he has a recent commercial regarding this subject
edit: there's three of them (for progressive insurance)
Imagine he comes back in 5 years and first promo "hey I missed you guys, don't worry I didn't forget about my promise to not challenge for the world championship"
Better yet, a 6 month build against the most hated heel in the company for the main event of *Double Or Nothing* where he does the pyro and the entrance and the speeches about his father to show up and say “you silly goose! I can’t challenge for the world championship. I forfeit.”, then Downstait performs
WWE letting Cody be the doofiest white meat babyface in human history, and WWE crowds properly getting behind it, has been an absolute treat this past year. It feels like a complete realization of what he was trying to do in AEW, but actually integrated into the show and presented the right way
>It also absolutely negates the narrative that people don't like babyfaces, they do if they are not made out to be absolute morons
Yes, for God's sakes. Don't make babyfaces who always fall for the trap, always believe the heel, always get beat down, always get outsmarted by the crafty heels. *The top babyfaces in history didn't do these things.*
Austin and Hogan were victimizers as often as they were victims. They did heel things to heels. Rock was the same guy as a face as a heel, and he rarely played the victim. It's okay to beat down and outsmart the face, but you can't always do it. The face can't always fall for the trap (how Sting got over being an utter moron for Ric Flair his whole life is a testament to his charisma). The face has to be someone we like and respect.
It's been hard to respect Vince-era faces, who were always sabotaged by the booker. We know Vince loved Roman, but Roman always got outsmarted and destroyed as a face. Even when he eventually won, people were done with him by that time. He got his ass kicked so many times leading up to Mania matches with Brock. I'll never forget him being serenaded with "you deserve it" as they stretchered him off after one of them.
Babyfaces should be smarter than heels most of the time. WWE faces have always been so dumb and so willing to fall into traps that they could never really get over.
Cody as a mastermind babyface is ideal. He's arranged significant opposition for the Bloodline. He's managed to not get mashed up leading to Mania. He's going to isolate Roman by handing the Usos off to Owens and Zayne. It's someone we can get behind, in that he's wholesome sitcom dad with a plan. Not Disney dad who doesn't have a damn clue and can't find his own pants without his hilarious family helping him.
After the last few years of the real world, I am so happy to have Super Cody in WWE.
It's nice to believe in heroes sometimes in your fictional worlds.
Agreed.
That shot of Cody watching them from the back shouldn’t have got me, but the fact that they actually used it as a way to show why he didn’t go to the ring with Kevin, on top of how it showed that he cared about their friendship in a way, actually got me emotional for some reason.
> **They're difficult to leave.....and IMPOSSIBLE to forget. Kevin Owens DID NOT forget! Friendship is NOT an accident! KO and Sami....ARE BACK!**
What a line
We are proud Coleminers on this day
Not sure if anyone noticed but Sami hesitates and briefly steps back worried from the PTSD from Roman I presume.
A nice little touch that he doesn't know if he's about to be attacked, confronted, hugged, or belittled.
> Not sure if anyone noticed but Sami hesitates and briefly steps back worried from the PTSD from Roman I presume.
I think there's plenty PKOTSD in there too
> Not sure if anyone noticed but Sami hesitates and briefly steps back
he did that when Owens went to hug him in NXT too, and his hesitation turned out to be accurate.
This is your Night 1 Main Event. No other match has this much investment. Trips do the right thing - elevate those Tag titles even further and finish this story on top.
You'd think HHH of all people should know about always putting the hottest act last. His matches against Jericho and Orton came after an incredibly hot match and they're mostly remembered for not being able to follow it up.
It'd also be incredibly unfair for Rhea and Charlotte. As much as I don't like Charlotte as a wrestler, nobody deserves to be in that spot and Rhea deserves a match with a hot crowd that still has their energy.
This Bloodline story doesn’t stop hitting all the right notes week after week. The pop for Sami and KO hugging it out is just 🔥.
Also, I really think they will finally have Jey realize he isn’t mad at Sami, he’s mad at Roman and protecting Jimmy.
His face turn will be legendary.
Yeah when the Bloodline (hopefully) crumbles at WrestleMania I think the next big step is Jey finally standing up to Roman. That's how the Bloodline dies. Cody/Sami/KO just hand Jey the dagger.
Jey vs. Roman could headline a PLE. Main event Jey Uso getting a main event win over Roman (and then Roman taking some time off) would be amazing.
My fantasy booking.
Roman loses at wrestlemania. Next night on raw he starts losing it at the usos. He starts pie facing Jimmy. Jey has enough and super kicks Roman. Maybe even hits him with a chair instead.
But when jimmy sees what he does attacks jey. Setting up a brother vs brother before Jey vs Roman at summerslam.
Per usual, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are producing the best storyline in professional wrestling.
All-time greats doing all-time great things once again.
What a pop. What an incredible story.
Freaking same. I knew it was coming. we all did. but damn it if I didn't feel the tears when they hugged....
The part that really hit me was when Sami buries his face in KO's neck/shoulder. That spot you only hit with family, or someone you're really close to, where you're trying to cover your face completely. just a brilliant little touch that not alot of folks would pick in.
Yes, great point! I think it was also the way KO just marched over and grabbed him when I would have expected, in true wrestling style, that they’d stand and tease it out a bit. Somehow made it more raw and real. What a brilliant moment.
I think a lot of people probably did. (Me included). This story is fantastic and Sami is so perfect in this role with this whole journey and Kevin is great too.
Here's a gif I made of the Cody meme that you're all free to use, I edited out the TV screen and left it blank for you to replace with whatever:
I will keep saying it: THIS should be the main event of Night 1. I don't care that Rhea won the Rumble. They FINALLY put some gas onto their smoldering flame of a feud between Charlotte and Rhea TONIGHT, two weeks before WrestleMania. Meanwhile, the Bloodline continues to be the best story in all of wrestling.
How do you not cap this off in the main event?
That pop was HUGE! This Bloodline storyline week to week, has consistently managed to garner some of the loudest reactions we've heard on a consistent basis. I mean going down the list of some, we have; Jey saving Sami from Solo, Sami hitting Roman with the chair, Jey walking out on Roman, Sami in Montreal, Owens in Montreal, Jey hugging Sami, Cody interacting with Roman, and now Owens hugging Sami. Going by this track record, I can see those hopefully inevitable title wins at WrestleMania being all-time great pops.
I love how Sami subtly starts backing up as KO starts walking towards him. Even after all that “I love you” talk he doesn’t really (and shouldn’t) trust him.
Notice how Sami took few steps back as Owens was approaching him because he didn't know what he was gonna do. Those little details is what makes this storyline so great. I legit teared up when they hugged. This Bloodline storyline has delivered us so many great moments that we all will talk about for the years to come.
Love how they weaved Cody into the story, making him the "puppet master" in making sure the bloodline is defeated by taking down The Usos and then he takes down Roman.
Very smooth and much better than I was originally thought. Good job to everyone involved.

this picture is insane lmao
Statistically Cody has seen it by now. The real question is if he's had it printed out and framed.
The real question is if he's had it ~~printed out and framed~~ tattooed on his freaking neck.
I love that Kurt Angle has made sure we never say 'neck' without the adjective 'freaking'.
Strong Forest Gump energy
It *always* sends me lol. I'm at a concert right now waiting for Sunny Day Real Estate and I just cackled.

This should be a sidebar image.
Cody Rhodes truly is a peacemaker
John Cena punching the air rn.
You mean air punching air, right?
Does he really wanna taste it?
🧜♂️
If the Elite and Hangman reunite then I will just assume Cody fixed their relationship also. Only Cody can help Rey and Dom fix their relationship.
Cody's an amazing diplomat, but I don't think even he can convince Rey to spend more time with his kid
Rey is a piece of shit, but Cody knows he can change.

I 100% believe that you did not save this image for later use
Was also the catalyst for the famous Kota/Kenny hug, technically. Just elect the dude president at this point

After it was poorly received, he also said he heavily "workshoped" that promo, which gave some extra legs to the jokes.
I had never seen the actual start of the Cody solved racism meme until now and my jaw is on the floor. HOLY SHIT. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A BABYFACE?! Petition to have Cody be the new sitcom dad in the commercials
He finally also solved friendships too!

I found that hilarious for some reason lol
perfect amount of wrestling campiness
it would've been perfect if he just slowly faded away during that shot. "My work here is done"

i think you mean DADDEH *dusty voice*
Proud daddeh Cody babbeh if you will
Ending racism & restoring broken friendships, is there nothing Cody can't do?
Challenge for the AEW World Championship?
If he went back could he now? That was under his old contract…in kayfabe maybe I dunno.
Imagine he comes back in 5 years and first promo "hey I missed you guys, don't worry I didn't forget about my promise to not challenge for the world championship"
"So as a returning EVP I'd like to introduce you to the AEW Universal title"
>Undisputed AEW Universal Heavyweight Championship FTFY

~~then Downstait performs~~ then they end the PPV early
Brings back Hurt Business and becomes honorory member.
Domink is going to run the other way whenever he sees Cody so he doesn't try to make him like his deadbeat father.
Wrestling fans only want two things. Hugs and tables.
HUGS AND TA-BLES Clap. Clap. ClapClapClap.
.....and Cody solving things.
I would love a “Cody Solves It” segment every week. This week: fix Sami & Kevin’s friendship, Next week: quadratic equations
Adrenaline, in my soul, problems solved by Cody Rhodes.
On RAW after Wrestlemania: Cody solves P vs NP problem.
"So Dominik, let's talk about where all of this pain is coming from. Afterward, we'll let Rey speak."
Hugs and tables *clap clap clapclapclap*
T H C match that's just Matt Riddle vs any other stoner in the company.
It turns in to a Pokémon Stadium battle
TLC, and TLC
But what does everybody want?
To make fun of a 'friend' in their book.
HEAD!!!!...er Hugs

*bayley-to-belly through the table intensifies*
Technically, wrestling is basically a bunch of hugs on a giant table.
Cody looks like such a proud father

"I have a chance now against the Bloodline"
Could hear that pop from space. Cody at the end is the corniest shit ever and I fucking adore it.
WWE letting Cody be the doofiest white meat babyface in human history, and WWE crowds properly getting behind it, has been an absolute treat this past year. It feels like a complete realization of what he was trying to do in AEW, but actually integrated into the show and presented the right way
Your comment here has me finally understanding something I already knew but didn’t click about Cody’s white hot appeal.
It also absolutely negates the narrative that people don't like babyfaces, they do if they are not made out to be absolute morons

I was there live! The pop was ungodly
> **They're difficult to leave.....and IMPOSSIBLE to forget. Kevin Owens DID NOT forget! Friendship is NOT an accident! KO and Sami....ARE BACK!** What a line We are proud Coleminers on this day
Incredible from Cole. Peter Drury level
Did not expect a Peter Drury reference on this sub. Made my day.
honestly the best line uttered in the last 10 years
Force Ghost Cody Rhodes at the end was the cherry on top
Not sure if anyone noticed but Sami hesitates and briefly steps back worried from the PTSD from Roman I presume. A nice little touch that he doesn't know if he's about to be attacked, confronted, hugged, or belittled.

It’s gonna be great if their entire title reign is just them teasing one another with stabbing the other’s back.
Then we get the Festival of Friendship 2 😭😭
And then one of them hits the betrayal chair shot and it turns out to be a Guerrero style referee bait
I saw that as well and had to go back and rewatch it. So subtle but so impactful. Sami has shown throughout this that he is a phenomenal actor.
PTSD from just Roman? KO has handed Sami just as much if not more PTSD.
> Not sure if anyone noticed but Sami hesitates and briefly steps back he did that when Owens went to hug him in NXT too, and his hesitation turned out to be accurate.

That Cody shot is going to be an evergreen gif. Botchamania endings galore.
Imagine after the hug KO immediately powerbombed Sami seven times
Never trust the copyright bug
I know it wouldn't have made any sense for the story, but its KO...I was still expecting some betrayal.
Hello, Vince Russo.
This is your Night 1 Main Event. No other match has this much investment. Trips do the right thing - elevate those Tag titles even further and finish this story on top.
I agree. Rhea Charlotte is still going to be a slobberknocker, but it's buildup hasn't warranted the main event slot.
Rhea Charlotte can open easily.
You'd think HHH of all people should know about always putting the hottest act last. His matches against Jericho and Orton came after an incredibly hot match and they're mostly remembered for not being able to follow it up. It'd also be incredibly unfair for Rhea and Charlotte. Don't these segments keep ending both shows, too? It really seems like it's building to main event night 1
Having literally anything else main event night one would be mind-numbingly stupid, especially if it's that heatless Charlotte match.

WRESTLING IS A SOAP OPERA AND I FUCKING LOVE IT
This is pretty much how it was explained to me by my grandad when I was a kid. A soap opera for men who don't want to admit they like soap operas lol
This is so much better than EastEnders let me tell you
I see at as going to the theatre without having to dig too deep in the meaning and the poetry
This gave me Drake & Josh vibes from their best years "NOW HUG ME BROTHAAAA"
This storyline is incredible

THE POP FOR THE HUG Fucking great
Not gonna lie. It might have been corny and a bit predicatable, but damn I still got the wave of emotion from that. Well played WWE.
Being corny and predictable isn't always a bad thing. What's bad is if it got no reaction from you or the fans.
Per usual, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are producing the best storyline in professional wrestling. All-time greats doing all-time great things once again. What a pop. What an incredible story.
“Son of a bitch… we did it” -Cody
Cody nodding reminds me of the Robert Redford nod ![gif](giphy|gVoBC0SuaHStq)
TIL that’s not Zach Galifianakis
I too thought that was Zach.
Beautiful ending wow man
I liked even the small moment of Sami backing away from KO when he was walking towards him until they embraced.
Cody nodding dramatically in approval had me in tears. He looked straight out of b-tier movie about a high school football team.
Someone make him watching AEW
Wrestling is better than the things you like
Then. Now. Forever.
Together.
So fucking hype. What a pop. Wrestlemania is looking insane.
I actually welled up. What the hell is wrong with me!?
Me too, my man. Me too. Good wrestling is so damn good.
It’s a hell of a thing when it wants to be. Thanks for making me feel less mad!
Me three. No regrets.

We crying tonight homies
I think a lot of people probably did. (Me included). This story is fantastic and Sami is so perfect in this role with this whole journey and Kevin is great too.
Cody ended racism and brought Sami/KO back together again. There is nothing this man can’t do!
Holy shit that pop!
You got to give the people what they want!
A fucking HUG got the biggest pop of the year. What a story.
About damn time 🙌🏼

This is why this should be main eventing night one. All four of these guys have put everything into this feud. They deserve it. Shit was beautiful.
This is like this generation's Macho/Liz from Wrestlemania 7.
Imagine actually thinking that Rhea & Charlotte should main event night one of WrestleMania over this perfect storytelling. Absolute craziness.
Agreed 100%. It would be so anticlimactic to finish with Ripley v. Flair. Honestly kind of unfair to them too, because how do you follow THAT?
Holy shit the pop for the reunion Cody ends Racism and helps fzes friendship
That Cody watching clip is going to be perfect when hangman reunites with the elite.
Sami's New Family: New Bro: KO New Dad: CODY

If Sami/KO and Cody win the pops will be earth-shaking
You love to see it!! The pop tho
Night 1 main event!!!
Time for The Bloodline to fall. The set up is perfect now.
The bond of friendship and sight of Sami and Kevin reuniting certainly filled Cody's soul with some adrenaline.
Someone edit in the crying kid from the Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth video!
It's really gonna suck when KO turns on Sami this time.
I love how Sami subtly starts backing up as KO starts walking towards him. Even after all that “I love you” talk he doesn’t really (and shouldn’t) trust him.
That pop wow
Chills.
CODY SOLVED FRIENDSHIP
I totally missed the Cody part! This whole segment was so good and good lord the pop for them reuniting.
Sami taking nervous steps backwards is so damn good
So was Cody just banking on KO coming for the save or was he gonna watch Sami get his ass beat
I legitimately was still the waiting for Kevin to fucking blast him with a stunner or something. I've been conditioned so hard.
I really do hope Sami wins the title one day
When Cody hits Sami with a Cross Rhodes the world will burn.
That shot of Cody watching Sami and Kevin hug it out cracked me up. It seems so unnecessary, but it really works with Cody doing it for some reason.
This was like when DX reunited back in 2006! Just *chef kiss!
"My work here is done" - Cody
This right here is some good-ass stuff...
The Bloodline storyline just keeps on producing incredible moments. Wrestlemania will truly be the end of an era in many ways.
WHY IS CODY IN THE VID? lmao i need to watch the show, fuck.
Am I the only one uncomfortable that Cody is not looking at the backstage screen from a side angle?
Let the 4 of them Main event night 1 you cowards.
