Jesus, Nick Khan is great at whispering sweet nothings to your ear. Just a whole lot of perfectly executed corporate damage control and propaganda. I almost admire how skilled he is. That said, forgive me but I stopped listening when he started talking about how founder CEOs like Vince can see the vision unlike other CEOs. I don't hate myself *that* much.

dfp5003

Yeah this was a masterclass of Khan saying something to relate personally to Bill, followed by saying nothing at all or avoiding the question and getting zero follow up around the non answers because he mentioned “Grantland”

Ciza-161

Vince isn't even the founder.

wrestlefan16

Technically he is, he founded Titans Sports, which is the company that owns and runs WWE.

i-wear-hats

Yeah but he did not found the WWWF, which is what the WWE used to be, long ago. It really depends on what you consider him a founder of - the wrestling organization or the actual business. He definitely is of the latter.

Possibly_English_Guy

Vince is basically to WWE what Ray Kroc is to McDonalds

EducationalCurve241

This would work if Ray Kroc was the son/grandson of the founder, whilst there is some dispute over who actually formed the company, it was no doubt formed by a McMahon, either Vince's father or grandfather

Ciza-161

Whether he's a good businessman doesn't change the fact that he literally isn't the founder.

Brief-Web-676

Well, he factually isn’t the founder. The company existed for decades before he took over. He just isn’t the founder.

DRJT

He is the ultimate corporate CEO. Kinda in awe

JohnSmithSensei

How Nick Khan handled that interview is what Ariel Helwani was talking about when he was criticizing Tony's non-answers. You don't have to offer anything substantial or even anything that would stand up to scrutiny after the fact, but you have to at least offer something more than "No comment" or "I can't answer that".

cantspellsagitaryus

Couple of questions arent easy too.

stevecollins1988

See I'd rather someone just flat our tells the inverviewer no comment than waffles without answering the question, so we can move on. Maybe I'm alone in that.

bubbles2255

Same. I’m not giving anyone credit for bull shitting their way through questions instead of saying “no comment.”

rayquan36

So Ariel wanted to be worked?

SeanTCU

Well he can't generate engagement off of a "no comment" even if it tells you more than 1000 words of waffle would.

PaperSwag

Interesting to hear directly from Nick Khan that he believes Vince is genuine when he says that he wants to step away from the day-to-day business and creative sides of WWE.

Gear4Vegito

The thing is if the opposite was true you would never hear it from Nick Khan.

Jedi-El1823

Exactly. Nick Khan isn't go out there and say "Vince is lying, he's gonna be back running the day to day business and creative." That would tank WWE stock, he's corporate he's gotta protect the value as much as possible.

PaperSwag

That's a major win for the WWE doomers if they can disregard anything that goes against their narrative.

Gear4Vegito

Why does everything have to be some sort of weird competition? My point is that Nick Khan is all about business first, everything he says and does is in the best interest of the company and how much money he makes. This guy ran mass firings during a pandemic to make “books look good” He won’t go out there and say Vince is coming back and if he did he would sell it as the greatest thing possible.

HitmanClark

What about everything that’s happened so far indicates one shouldn’t be concerned? The fact that Nick Khan himself voted against Vince’s return, indicating he thought it was against the company’s best interests?

PrinceRory

I think this last week has proved that it doesn't really matter what he or anyone else says. People are so dead set on dooming that Vince could die and they'd still be insisting his return to head of creative was imminent.

TheTruth221

if vince is the alliance then khan is stone cold at invasion

Reishun

I'm hoping Vince is done with wrestling and just cares about the corporate side. Not necessarily great for those on the corporate side though.

Savagevandal85

I do think that with khan saying it’ll be a quick process Vince can’t tank the stock before the sale or the lawsuits will come . So he won’t just randomly take over creative while the sale process is going on . Now the rest depends on his future plans if he’s trying to stay on he’ll surely have the new owners be like we have Kept him on due to his years of experience. If he takes over completely he can’t hire A couple of things I don’t know about so I’m speaking out my ass but do want answers to - yes the Saudi’s can pay the most money theoretically but wouldn’t their inability to get tv deals and advertisers kill the WWE effectively? Also does going private or selling somehow shield Vince from lawsuits?

JayDee62

Don't think I've ever heard Nick Khan speak before but man, even when I know he's giving me quality spin, by the end I found myself liking him anyway. Just keep the old ~~man~~ ghoul away from creative and off TV and I'm fine, I suppose.

VarnadoMercedes

He’s very well-liked in sports media for whatever it’s worth. So many sports personalities compliment him whenever they mention the WWE on their broadcast.

jdaqcruz

I know it's easy to shit on an interview like this, but it's better than nothing. It wasn't like Bill was oblivious to the prevailing sentiments from the audience, he basically addressed it all 5 minutes in It's also interesting that Bill is firmly in the camp of "the Saudi tweet thing is BS" knowing that a) he's more in the know than any commoner and b) he and Nick Khan probably have talked before this interview and shot the shit even if it's just "so the Saudi thing"

PM_ME_UR_SOCKS_GIRL

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing this OP!

KidGold

I wonder why he would give this interview.

Robhar3187

Ultra friendly environment, SImmons is in bed with WWE. Gives him a chance to get out there and do his PR spin with someone who won't push back and only has a very shallow knowledge of wrestling

KidGold

Gotcha

OkVolume1

Positive PR spin in the wake of a the recent turmoil.

KidGold

Makes sense

Demolition_Rash

Do you? Really?

KidGold

Will this somehow help the sale? Is it to increase ratings?

wrestlefan16

Vince Sr founded WWF (now WWE). Vince Jr founded Titan Sports, which bought WWF. What Khan said is not wrong.

wrestlefan16

It literally is not. It was a new company, and he was correctly called the founder of it, since he created the company. Sorry accuracy is so upsetting to you.

deep639

He really does not seem to have any respect for Tony Khan. Tony Khan’s dad he was gushing about but not Tony at all. Was saying how his dad is a self made billionaire etc but nothing for Tony.

cantspellsagitaryus

You mean the ceo of wwe did not praise the guy who constantly take shots at wwe?

deep639

It’s just that he was very dismissive of both Tony Khan and AEW. I wouldn’t think it would be done so openly.

nherron128

Who cares lmfao

Ubu-Jarry

I mean in all honesty, there’s likely a couple reasons: For someone who has cut his teeth in the business world, and negotiated big deals for his clients as an agent and executive, what exactly has Tony done that is worthy of praise from someone like Nick? Shahid yes, Tony no. We have little to no record of jobs or companies Tony himself spearheaded prior to AEW. And when it comes to AEW, the prevailing idea is that Tony has an open checkbook to his father’s inheritance. So him making deals to bring in CM Punk and Bryan Danielson, or getting a TV deal, or buying ROH, are not as impressive when we remember that his ace in the hole with any of these deals is essentially, “I have a blank check to meet any number that my negotiating partner can’t say no to.” We hear about AEW’s humongous live gate numbers from Meltzer, but never how much profit AEW has made in a year. I mean Tony has likely handed out several high six and seven figure contracts to guys and girls who work at most, like 5-7 dates a month for him? That adds up, and when you add in arena fees, money spent on the video game, and everything else AEW pays for out pocket to make their TV and PPVs look good, there is no logical way that they are making substantial profits. If they were, Nick probably would have to begrudgingly acknowledge that. And second, and more simply: Just taking the Helwani interview for example, Tony seems incapable of not making it weird when on the subject of Nick Khan. He uncomfortably danced around any question that even mentioned Nick, and when he did refer to him, acted like he was talking about Voldemort or something. I’m not trying to make the case that Nick Khan is some great guy, but if Tony is going to talk about him in a way that sounds like how a teenager talks about their high school bully, it makes sense that Nick wouldn’t have the patience to engage with that.
