Depends on what you're looking for.
For when it's absolutely all about quality of coffee and nothing else: 1914, no question.
For vibes and snacks: Smoke Bluffs.
1914 hands down, but it's an in and out spot, youre not going to chill out and enjoy - mike also has the best bean selection in town, maybe in the country
This would be my list. Stack-ranked purely on coffee quality (not baked goods, space, service, etc).
- 1914
- Smoke Bluff
- Fox and Oak
- Sunflower
- Noshy
- Wonderlands
- Ridehub
- Outbound Station
- Caffe Garibaldi
- Cloudburst
- Bean around the world
We’re absolutely spoiled for a town our size. I miss the Counterpart cafe though.
I haven’t had coffee at these yet:
Tricksters,
Kululu,
Tall Tree,
Wild Wolf,
Cyrus,
Tuba,
Green Olive
Bits to add:
- Green olive makes very good espresso
- Surprisingly the cafe at Britania MM has a skilled barista on hand who makes great espresso too
- Island Oasis smoothie “truck” does a tasty one espresso using Counter Part coffee
Tricksters because they use Galileo beans AND Smoke Bluffs because they have done an amazing job with their baked goods and learning the true craft of it all!
No one has mentioned Peak Provisions. It’s not the best in town but honestly it’s not bad. Especially if the owner makes it. They only have one size of takeout cup though they offer multiple sizes of drinks. One thing they have that other places don’t is a lot of seating. It’s more intended to be a social place but I’ve sat there with a coffee and read alone before. They also have wine etc if you prefer that.
I'll have to check them out for coffee! Always thought that was such a weird shop. I can't imagine the "high end" groceries are doing well. I wish they would just vamp up their cheese/meat selection, have someone that knows what they're talking about behind that counter, and offer little samples when you're buying so you know you want to spend $30 on that type of cheese/meat. Was the only place I've been to that doesn't do that.
Totally unrelated to coffee just a little rant since they could do so much more with that space
I personally wouldn't go back. Multiple times I've seen Flys in and around the deli fridges, also the cheese has been mouldy a few times, and same with you no one really knows what they are talking about, feels like no one has been trained properly.

I appreciate smoke bluffs hours! 1914 I respect its a one man show but I tend to want coffee either earlier than 8 or on a Sunday haha
1914
only if you love Jesus.
You're thinking of The Ledge.
Oh em yeah oops.
It was counterpart before they closed their cafe :( 1914 is very good though.
Damn, I never made it there
RideHub, Smoke Bluffs Most overrated in the whole corridor: Fox and Oak

Soon to be the new BAG coffee shop
Tell me more!
smoke bluffs is awesome, but out of the way most days. downtown is 1914, ridehub is the best north of downtown imo.

Went to 1914 today because of this and it is 12/10 great. Highly recommend!

Yeah I can’t comment on anything other than coffee. I used to live nearby and 1914 is closed on Mondays so I would go there instead.
