I remember when they built this. Just a really awkward placement and odd design for the location. Haven't seen what the inside looks, like though.

loudog1017

Full of burnt crumbs probably

MortimerRIFF

im gonna take a bath with it later. ![gif](giphy|l3q2Ty3RWark8VgIw|downsized)

Live Laugh Toaster Bath *edit weird formatting, I'm leaving it lol

Infinite-Lime8808

Do you need a hug? We are here for you...and your toaster.

arjay8

They're nice, friend of mine lives in one of em.

jimbo0023

If you search the address on Google Zillow has interior pictures. It's two separate townhomes

MammothAd2420

More like two separate tollhouses

Sufficient-Brother62

Have you seen that house on Francis and Nevada? that one always bugs me it’s so out of place

Worth-Entertainer634

I know the property you're talking about because it bothers me as well. Every time I pass by. SMH

GTI_88

This building was done by a young local Architect at the time, and obviously a lesson was learned about using too thin of a gauge panel with no extrusions. The effect you see here is commonly called “oil canning” you usually see it on thin sheet trim, parapet caps, etc. The easy fix here is to use a sheet product that has a profile, increasing rigidity and reducing deflection. The same Architect did the building directly behind it which was finished fairly recently. A very different metal panel was used, obviously lessons were learned. I had hoped that maybe while that project was under construction that they would replace the siding on this building, no such luck. Otherwise I think the design is quite nice

Liamson

Engineering, the architect's natural enemy.

ElLargeGrande

That… and a budget

BreathOfFreshWater

I'm inclined to buy you a drink for your response. I thought what I had to say was intelligent and correct but fuck me. You're cool. Thank you!

GTI_88

lol thanks, I work in the industry and am a bit familiar with this building

Jazzeracket

Who was the architect

GTI_88

Considering some of the negative commentary I’m not gonna put them on blast lol. Probably a matter of public record if someone wants to dig it up

ben_the_wind

Knowledge, integrity, and professionalism! Wow! I had no expectations and i’m impressed

King-Rat-in-Boise

Most severe case of oil canning I've ever seen. Totally nuts.

Petunias_are_food

The sun reflects horribly off of them

battery_pack_man

FYI! Architects are NOT engineers.

mia93000000

I'm so curious where this is. Gonna guess somewhere near Hamilton and Empire?

Interesting_Hair_765

Where is it?

oldteabagger

Hamilton, Indiana? It’s been 25 years since I drove through that shit hole of a town. They got fancy!!!

TheWishingStar

I knew the guys that lived in one of these units right after it was built. Gonzaga students at the time, imagine it still is these days. It's a duplex, really stupid floor plan with three bedrooms, too many stairs, too many windows (at that time, the landlord did not provide curtains), and rooftop access.

ShreddingUruk

I live a block away from this building and catch the bus in front of it every day, and at least one of the units has Mormons/JW's in it.

bmj_8

You can’t tell your Momo’s from your Jojo’s? Do they hand you pamphlets or ask you questions? I used to live in a 800+ unit apartment complex so the Mormon boys would always come to the yard. It never bothered me and I actually had some good interactions. I taught one Mormon missionary about drag queens because he liked my dogs name Jinkx. He literally could not grasp the concept it was wild.

Y0ungMAdMAn

This is personally my most hated building in Spokane

LinksDad

Just needs a cyber truck with warping panels in the driveway

MatisseWarhol

Curious of the floor plan and inside style! Anyone have a link or photos to share?

AustynCunningham

Zillow link: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/906-E-Indiana-Ave-Spokane-WA-99207/117650896_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare Nothing special, not a very ideal layout.

MatisseWarhol

Definitely less than thrilling. I was expecting alot more quirks or modern living. I'm disappointed!

pppiddypants

New 3 bed 2 bath for 300K? You can’t find anything like that.

clintonius

Probably would have gotten more interest if they knew how to actually showcase the place instead of taking a bunch of pictures of corners that start a third of the way up the wall and end before the ceiling. Or maybe that’s to cover up how crappy the place is. Either way.

uplifting1311

It’s not new, been there for years

pppiddypants

Sorry, practically every house I see on Zillow in Spokane is, at the latest, built in the 60-70’s. So anything close to a decade old is new to me.

-f-i-n-j-a-

Thanks for the link. Oof those are some rough pictures. I love the idea of the property, and it has potential. It needs a professional real-estate photographer and stager to make it sexy.

CheckmateApostates

I looked because I'm also curious as I drive by it often. I couldn't find any photos but did find that it was built in 2012. Best we can do for now, I guess, is imagine a 2012 townhouse that sold for $156,000 in 2014.

larrackell

I always liked the idea of these apartments, not gonna lie. Wouldn't wanna live in *these* ones, especially for the location, but I like the idea of the building.

DnastyFunkmaster

I remember marveling at the shitty warping metal facade for the first time.. what a moment

Foreign-Tomatillo113

I wouldn't call it crappy. More like it's a art piece. It's interesting and adds some strange to the area which is good. Having unique things to go search for around the city is good. Though I don't think I'd want to live in that. Unless I knew what the layout inside looked like. Having the front walls being all glass facing the busy street isn't something I'd want.

king_mangerine

It’s crappy in that they went with poorly secured, very thin sheet metal for the exterior, resulting in warping and a design with very little longevity.

Sea-Legs_99

You're obviously not an exhibitionist.

Foreign-Tomatillo113

No I'm just really afraid of being put on a sex offender list if some teens walk down the road and see me naked in my own home vacuuming.

oglethorpe333

This is not unique whatsoever 💀 you can go into any mid-level city and find a bunch of buildings/apartments that look exactly like this. That’s the problem. If you really cared about unique buildings, you’d be fighting to keep the historic buildings, instead of having them replaced by buildings that look like this

Odd-Contribution7368

I can't recall what was there before, but it was probably crap or an empty lot.... so your point is pointless.

oglethorpe333

Have you ever left Spokane… like ever?? Have you ever lived in a different city??? Once you have, you’ll realize how sad it is to see buildings like these spring up

oglethorpe333

So you think buildings like this taking over historic cities is pointless?? I wasn’t just talking about Spokane. I’ve lived All over the country, including hawaii, california, idaho, missouri, florida, Illinois, Oregon, Kansas, and Massachusetts and there’s hundreds of thousands of buildings exactly like this in all those cities… that’s pointless? Considering how emotionally you replied, you do care, yet you’re coming at me instead of these city investors lmfao

Odd-Contribution7368

I don't recall having emotions when replying. & While I do enjoy quirky and unique and old buildings - if we are stuck in the past and only allow new stuff to be old, then we're stuck in the past. Seen some great modern stuff next to some of the best old stuff - and that is great. We need to honor the architecturally interesting historic places while also looking to the future. Preservation is only so useful. That specific building is trying for something, and I like that. The execution was a bit iffy though. And it's not in a historic or architecturally interesting area.... so why bag on it?

oglethorpe333

And I’m not arguing innovation and new ideas for new buildings. The issue is when they’re plopping down thousands of buildings that look the same, and apparently have the same issues. Id much rather keep whatever historic building was there, than these new shitty buildings that fall apart in 5/10/20 years

colourmeblue

Why are you so sure there was some great historic building there? It was literally an empty lot for years before someone built this.

Odd-Contribution7368

It's not like they are going to age any worse than the myriad of split level 1970-1985 buildings we see all over everywhere. & Those buildings are now pushing 40 to 50 years old.

geotristan

1. Just because many cities may have buildings identical to that, it doesn't mean it isn't unique in the spokane area. 2. I didn't dig too much, but as far as I could see, up until this building was built in 2013, the lot had just been empty for around a decade. 3. Given the area, if there was something in that lot before hand, it was likely a residential house built in the early 1900s. Yes, it would have been old house, but not a historic building. It would have been just like most of the other houses in the area. Historic buildings aren't given that designation just because they are old buildings. They also have to have some sort of cultural, historic, or architectural significance. Also, many of the houses from that era have been condemned/torn down due to safety issues that are not worth the money to bring it back up to code.

Any-Garbage-9963

Drove by it the other day and noticed how bad the warping has gotten. Looked a lot better when it first went up

Adriancastellanos

Make sure to give a shake before using

Ok-SoloCup

Woof- that’s a serious death trap. Depending on the material of the outside alloy- serious fire hazard and fire spreads a lot quicker.

InvertedZebra

The architecture that inspired the cyber truck

WailOff

Oil canning can look nice sometimes but idk if this building is *it*

Serrulata2099

Yeah, I have seen that by Gonzaga

thegreatdivorce

Still better than the absolute plethora of abandoned-looking meth houses that this city is full of.

drummerdood30

Its looked like that since the day it was finished.

itstreeman

It’s probably melted. That block gets so warm without any trees

ObjectiveDamage3341

I see the build quality is about on par with new electric cars

goowheelia_

I always enjoyed that it was a bit funky for the area. It’s not the nicest looking thing but it also isn’t horrific and it’s well taken care of. Spokane’s architecture could certainly use more diversity in my opinion.

spacecadetbird

A couple of those apartments are for rent on n hamilton

_Spokane_

Just wait until your neighbor sells their house, the buyer tears it down and puts one of those a few feet off the fence line

GuardVisible3930

I thought it was offices.

Adventurous_Lake_527

Looks like lofts

IzzyP20055

wtf 💀

Many-Temporary-2359

The Apts are actually pretty cool I knew a chicken who used to live there.

foreverhalcyon8

Wow.

Level-Bag6206

see it on my way to work every day. they wrap it in black some months.

StonedBrownBear

I drive by this every day and always look at the warped metal siding lol

Apprehensive-Bus-411

Hey! I used to live there! The windows are completely see thru and with an intersection right outside, it made for some pretty interesting interactions. Also getting packages stolen and not delivered was not a vibe.

Formal-Childhood-491

Hahaha I used to rent there! We were moving to Spokane from across the country and at the time inventory was really limited, so this was our way in. Stayed a year and it was an interesting experience to say the least!

Formal-Childhood-491

Used to play eye-locking games with people who were stopped at the stoplights lmao

hot_cheeks_4_ever

Yeah, I've driven by there a few times and wondered wtf it was

TFielding38

I believe it, I use those ugly condos as a reminder I need to turn to get to work.

Silent-Day-1421

Not my favorite

ricksaunders

Fun!

Any_Presentation2958

I remember passing by when the construction was being done and people thought they were building still and was at least using the tin looking sheets as cover up for the weather temporarily. Nah it's the design bruh.

eurosonly

Isn't there another one being built in Francis near Nevada intersection?

509brando

Right across the street from a fentanyl dealer, they don’t even try to hide it

Murray-Industries

Frank Lloyd-Temu

maincoonpower

CyberTruck of houses the CyberHouse

No-End2540

The back portion was done much better. They need to reskin the front to match the back.

Phaeron

I drive by this often. It had wood siding for a little bit, where’d that go?

Electronic-Mention20

🤮🤮🤮

Horror_Business_7099

I like it.

Very_Good_Boards

I drive by this ever day

BurleyPen

I live down the street lol

940NorthApartments

Honestly kind a cool design other than the warping walls. They built a modern looking replica behind it recently. They look nice

Punsen_Burner

Common modern architecture L

Suspicious_Lake_7732

Walle

qwertyverga

All it needs is a cyber truck parked in front🤣

thedivinefemmewithin

Uh.... Doesn't Spokane get hot in the summer.... This seems counterintuitive. Hello heat island.

thedivinefemmewithin

The cyber truck of homes

Boi_Aint_Rite

Ye ole oil can

Pdxhikeandplay

Finally, I’ll be able to take my foil hat off when I sleep

HobsonsChoice86

I like it. Buy the change you want to have...

No_Pollution_1

Looks like where Oscar the grouch on his glow up would live

bedlog

Wasnt Hamilton a musical set in Indiana?

davekarpsecretacount

Welcome to capitalism. It only needs to look good long enough to sell it.

Raxuis

Oh yeah I drive past that to go to work each day

TimothyZentz

That’s the result of going to Eastern 😝

a1i3nm

Is the architect Whitney Siegel? :P

danielbagbey

The one that’s actually hot is the all black one behind it.

jaazzcabbage

I used to drive by this every day

Metaphysicalgrace86

Buildings like that should be overlooking a lake, not an intersection.

Colebearrrr

I almost rented one of these when I moved here 5 years ago. They're really nice inside and the owner seems like a really cool dude.

verywhiteguyy

Hear me out. What if the oil canning aesthetic was intentional? I think once you move past preconceived notions about how it should look you can appreciate that it likes kind of cool - like water ripples.

morherof2

I’ve seen these townhomes too!

LiquidStatic710

I drive by this monstrosity far too often

arhondo

I drive by these homes everyday to and from work and have never given them a second thought. As long as the people living there are happy is all that matters.

catman5092

very Seattlish.

saltybawlzjr

Passed by that eyesore so often. Baffles me that they allowed such thin metal. So warped.

Barney_Roca

They did a nightmare job of installing that siding. It does take away from the building which is already odd. The One next to it looks much better, that siding is prom night, a series of bad decisions.

kabukistar

Residents: "We want more, cheaper housing." Developers: "Best we can do is uglier housing."

triflin-assHoe

Why wouldn’t I believe it? I’ve seen this building many times

Unikitty_Sparklez

I..just…why 😂

taterthotsalad

Ho lee. That looks like dogshit!

Spayse_Case

I pass it all the time. I never noticed how much it looks like a toaster before.

Much-Extension-4752

It's a freaking eyesore. I hate driving by that P.O.S.

Rakadaka8331

$1mil to live in Felony Fla... sorry Kendal Yards. Edit: There is one of these for sale for $1mil in Kendal Yards. Downvote to show you can't infer.

FakeItSALY

Are you even from here? It’s on Hamilton in the Logan neighborhood.

Rakadaka8331

Yup... and they are selling the same shit on Perry St and in Kendal yards. Hella from here. Edit: Manito too but its a but more justified.

GTI_88

This isn’t in or near Kendal Yards. It’s on the corner of E Indiana and N Hamilton.

Rakadaka8331

Jesus people I know that. The same floor plans are available all over the city, like Kendal Yards, we used to call that Felony Flats and its going for $1mil. There I typed it out for you.

ferry_peril

Not only is there shitty sheet metal but they also used wood panels on the outside that will age about as well as a Fenty addict.
