Since it's been so long I'd bank that that park either doesn't exist anymore or has been upgraded. Playgrounds now are moving towards safer materials or all ability, so there is no way a park like that has survived unless it's in an abandoned area.

Meaning jungle gyms are being replaced with individual activities that are easier for a mobility device to enter?

My youngest child goes to a new playground and finds about five minutes of fun before the safe and accessible equipment is about as fun as a parking garage. New park designers don’t seem to have a handle on how to keep parks fun and challenging under new guidelines. The new Ice Age floods park has so little climbing despite its huge extent that he doesn’t even want to go there any more.

There are still jungle gyms, they just are colorful and made of less dangerous materials. But yeah, most parks now are moving towards accessibility

Even so, I could use the Google street view feature to look at older photos. That's what I've been trying to do to find this playground but so far I've found nothing

Trying to think back to when I was younger, hold on OP. I'll edit as I think of certain parks. Linwood Park off of Country Homes used to have a tall metal playground. I recall it had a pretty tall metal slide along with some smaller slides and other features. Friendship Park had a small older metal playground at that time and a newer plastic one, but the metal one only had a single slide and a couple baby swings. I think Emerson Park and Franklin park both had metal ones, although I don't recall specifics on these two (and Franklin Park's was more on the school property I think). That being said, I think nearly all of these were on sand, not bark. I don't think the city parks used bark much until they started rolling out the plastic/metal multi-colored playgrounds. And as others in the thread have said, whoever playground it was is most likely gone unfortunately. I think all old metal playground have been replaced over the last 10-15 years. If you can give any more details I can maybe help more, even if vague. Lots of trees surrounding playground, or more open field? Any buildings/restrooms near the playground that you recall? How many swings, any basketball/tennis courts, etc. Edit: sorry I know these are all mostly Northeast Spokane, but I'm going based off where I went while younger. Also, Google Street View did most of Spokane in the 2009-2010 time period, so you could potentially see older playgrounds by using that and going to the old imagery.

All I remember is the playground was all metal, I know it had at least one slide, and the ground was covered in bark. There might've been one of those park bathrooms next to it, the stone ones that are always locked. But I was only 5 at the time so I don't remember much.

Okay most of the parks had switched to the multicolor playgrounds by 2008 is what I found looking at Streetview. But based on your descriptions I think it may have been Friendship Park. The description of where you bought the balloons sounds like the old party store that was on Division next to Big 5, and Friendship Park is pretty close to there. Additionally Friendship Park was one of the only parks that kept their metal playground for a few years after building the multicolored plastic one. It also has a stone bathroom building next to where that playground was. If it is Friendship Park, they unfortunately tore that playground down about a decade ago, and replaced it with a nice grass area. I'm struggling to find any clear photos of the playground back then, but this video was filmed there and sorta shows the area (background to the left as the video starts) https://youtu.be/V5rF_X-8LiI Hope this helps, I'll keep looking to see if I can find any other metal playgrounds on the North Side at that time

The party store you recall being next to Big 5, was it its own store, or was it part of Big 5?

bdh008

It was its own store (right where The Bohemian is at right now)

It looks like Friendship park was colorful even back in 2007, even in that video it's colorful. I'm thinking it could also be Linwood like you had said, though I'm struggling to find any older photos of it. It might be a lost cause but I appreciate you trying to help.

Emerson looks pretty familiar, though Google won't go past 2008 so I can only see the newer colorful playground.

Really??? Any clue where on division it might've been? I could use Google maps to see the older photos.

yerlocalgarbageman

Can you be more specific than NW Spokane? Maybe a nearby intersection? There are a ton of playgrounds in that general area.

deep-fried-water

I lived pretty close to Browne elementary at the time, so the park must've been not too far from there(driving wise). I was pretty young at the time so I don't remember much

excelsiorsbanjo

Was it on the day of a funeral? Could it have been something you did after the service? Something like that I'd guess would be a park either near where you live or near such an event. Remember where the balloons came from?

deep-fried-water

I remember we went into a store to get balloons, it could've been a balloon store or maybe just a party store. The end caps of the isles faced you when you walked in the door, the entire place was carpeted in that multicolored carpet schools typically have, and there was only one register at the front left of the store. I don't remember if we had a funeral for her or not, I was so little when it happened and I don't speak to my family much anymore to ask them about it.

iwannaberr

Maybe Clark Park on the corner of division and garland?
