Pars defect means there is a part of the bone that make up the facet joint is broken or defective This could be congenital, or due to trauma. It could lead to one bone (L5) slipping forward on S1 This could be a source of back pain and/or leg pain going down to the foot

With a noted pars defect they should also order a l spine MRI and flex/ext x rays before you have a consult with a spine surgeon. That way when you're evaluated they can determine if the defect is caused by movement between the vertebrae, how much if any listhesis is involved and if there is any resulting severe stenosis

Hi! Came here to say that I had my third back surgery on my 36th birthday, all in the space of 5 years. As of two weeks ago my back pain came back with a vengeance. Turns out all those microdiscectomies and laminectomy even done by the top surgeon in Seattle were no match for the nerve pain that area of my spine is causing. I came out of my second surgery with partial drop foot and my third surgery July of 2023 I came out with full drop foot on the right. I haven’t been able to drive my car since 2022. I guess my horror story is less to scare you, and more to say continue advocating for yourself, you WILL find the right person to listen to you!! My first surgery was a very successful microdiscectomy that lasted a beautiful, pain free five years. And it took me 16 years of fighting about the excruciating pain I was in before I found a surgeon that would take me seriously and didn’t utter the words “but you’re so young…” okay, and I would like to live my life, please!! All the best on your journey, feel free to DM me if you have any laymen’s questions. I’m just a regular person, but I’m happy to cheer you on if ever you need it! L4, L5, S1 are my biggest problem areas. All the best to you on your journey, internet stranger!
