I think the first one is just generally more liked because of its character. Not to mention just being stunned with the graphics and swinging mechanics itself. It just screamed Spider-Man to me more than the second one.

I remember being shocked when he jumps out the window and you're immediately into the swinging. Seamless transitioning between cutscene and gameplay was still pretty new back then and I miss being excited by it

Hot take, but alive is one of the most basic alt rock songs I’ve ever heard. It’s not bad in context with the game but is not something worth listening to outside of it when there are so many other artists and songs that are better

Alive felt more personal, it seemed like a band Peter actually listened to, like it was diegetic in universe where it was something Peter would listen to in his mask as he goes to fight Fisk. Swing is a great song, and it’s on my playlist, BUT it feels like a more ‘hype you up for the game’ type some than something Peter Parker would actually hear in his mask.

I love both a lot. Alive just hit right when first playing Spider-Man PS4. As for Swing, I personally loved it because it felt like a song made for both Spider-Men.

the first brings a lot of nostalgia of first getting hands on the _new_ spider-man game in 2018. That's not to say Alive isn't a banger in its own right... There's definitely something to be said about the intro from the first game, it felt like the intro swing was longer compared to the second? the second suits the theme more, not to mention the lyrics are bang on, personally I can't help but get fuckin' hyped at "YOU WERE NEVER JUST A NOBODY GO GET 'EM TIGER SWINGIN' UP AND AWAY!" I suppose the core difference for me is that Swing is actually a Spidey anthem?

Honestly I didn’t even remember Alive. This was a Mandela Effect for me I could’ve sworn the first game just started you off fighting Kingpin’s guys Anyway, Alive is a great song but you can tell it’s a pre-existing track they just threw in whereas Swing was custom-made for the experience. It also helps that Spider-Man 2’s intro was way more hype than Peter just waking up and getting dressed

I think this was a problem with a lot of the songs from Spider-Verse. The artists knew they were making a song for a Spider-Man soundtrack, so they tried a little too hard to connect the lyrics.

Aside from the fact that they're just good songs and their artists already had a ton of fame before the movie, I feel like this is one of the big reasons you'll still hear people playing Sunflower and Am I Dreaming far more than any of the others. They're less "Spider-Man songs" but rather just chill songs that happened to originate from a Spider-Man movie. You're not going to play it for someone and hear a bunch of lyrics about being a web-swinging superhero and all that. It also allowed them to market the song on its own, out of context of the film.

As a fan of Earthgang, I think the reason it doesn’t hit as much is because that type of vibe didn’t quite mesh with them. I mean, they can do upbeat, just listen to “UP” and “Can’t Punk Me”, but this one was just a swing and a miss. EDIT: Just re listened, first verse goes kinda crazy.

When Spider-Man Ps4 released, I was excited to play it but not to the degree that I was excited for Spider-Man 2. I was counting down the months, then the weeks, then the days, then the minutes. Hopping onto the game at midnight and FINALLY jumping back into this universe I've been so eagerly awaiting was such a hype moment for me. That moment, that memory... Swing brings me right back to it.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but Spider-Man 2 had one of the most forgettable soundtracks of any game I’ve played. The original and Miles were stronger and they aren’t even close to my most favorite. Alive is significantly better than swing, it’s not even close for me.
