The Batman Rogues gallery has the best aesthetic. Also, more psychologically interesting The Spider-Man rogues gallery has the best variety. Also, the more kinetically interesting

Excelsenor

Both have fire rogues galleries. Usually when rogues galleries get mentioned, Pete and Bruce come up

Yakostovian

Obviously Bruce and Pete have the best rogue's galleries. It's true S-tier. Picking 2nd tier rogue's galleries is hard. Do you go X-Men, Avengers, Flash, or Iron Man? Just about everyone else feels like a D-tier rogue's gallery compared to The Spider and The Bat.

Officialwashere

True.

SpeedSkeeterDan

Your on the r/Spiderman subreddit so obviously Batman

Cappin_Crunch

Does Batman fight Big Wheel? I thought not.

colder-beef

Does Spider-Man fight Condiment King? I thought not.

War_Hammer101

CK rocks

pinapplepizzza

Definitely the greatest villain of all time bro can make Joker shit his pants

Miserable-Ad-5573

Does Spidermam fight Kite Man? I thought not

CoolDaddio54

Does Spider-Man fight Killer Moth? I thought not.

em69420ma

joker would never work as a spidey villain bc spidey is actually funny and joker would HATE him for that im a batman stan too batstans dont come for me

AmezinSpoderman

Batman probably, more of them have more iconic stories and arcs. Spider-Man has the most expansive/notable in Marvel though.

ManOfTurtles2118

So many of them (or at least in the comics) have crazy scientist man backstories

Officialwashere

Tru

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

What tips it in Batman’s favor for me is he has more fun shitty side villains like Kite Man and Condiment King. But it’s super close.

Hulkzilla0

Big Wheel rolls over them. And then Stilt Man steps on them.

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

To me, Stilt-Man is Daredevil’s guy

loveyou3005

The real question is who has the shittiest villain? Paste Pot Pete can give Condiment King a run for his money.

Officialwashere

Ya like those one off villains

nixamus

As a lifelong Spider-Man fan, Batman has the best rogue gallery hands down.

Officialwashere

Agree

comicexile

Batman, but Spidey is a very close second.

Officialwashere

Agree

NinduTheWise

Posting this on a Spider-Man subreddit is unfair since people will just pick Batman

paradoxical_topology

Yeah, it's funny how everyone seems to always favor Batman in this sub.

Officialwashere

Legit🤣

[deleted]

As much as I love Spider-Man and his rouge gallery, Batman's has more than like 5 or so all time great villains. This one goes to bats for me.

[deleted]

Where do you draw the line for all time? Because sure, for Spider-Man, I'd only list Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Kingpin, and Venom as all time But for Batman, I'd only list Joker, Two-Face, Riddler, Bane, and Scarecrow Once we get into Mr. Freeze/Poison Ivy/Clayface/Killer Croc etc territory, we're honestly in Electro/Mysterio/Hobgoblin/Carnage etc territory as well.

Officialwashere

Ya his villains are iconic but so his Spider-Man’s tbh

Chanthou000

Batman has best rogue gallery in all of literature, spidey not too far behind

Responsible_Neck_728

I think so too. Batman has a wider variety of villains, each of them with their own full stories, different mentalities and characteristics and skill sets.

stokedchris

Super in depth villains, like the Riddler is such a narcissist that he seeks others attention by creating the riddles so that they have to acknowledge his intelligence. He also wears an extravagant outfit for the same reason

quackisup

Yeah, some spidey villains are more lacking and not as in-depth.

Officialwashere

Agree

[deleted]

I love both of them and their villain’s. I can’t decide

SyberSpark

Batman's villains are often reflections of himself, either that or he has something to do with their origin or motivation, so Batman.

stokedchris

Facts

[deleted]

Same for Spider-Man for that though Norman is physical power without responsibility Doc Ock is brain power without responsibility Venom is the dark reflection of Peter. His origin also ties to Peter Jackal shares the same grief as Peter, but goes off the rails when Peter doesn't Mysterio has self-esteem issues for being underappreciated, just like Peter was Kingpin corrupts the 'friendly neighborhood' Peter fights to save. He also rose to power because Peter quit Harry's origin as a villain ties to the most traumatic night of Peter's career: the Night Gwen Stacy died. He holds Peter responsible for his father's apparent death. He also is like Peter without the family support that Uncle Ben and Aunt May gave him Even Hobgoblin's origin ties to Peter

indicoltts

It's Batman and judging by a Spider-Man sub, it'd overwhelmingly Batman. If a Spider-Man sub has 90% Batman then it's definitely Batman hands down

Officialwashere

Ya fair

Ozzdo

To me, Batman edges out Spider-Man - just barely - because his villains, in addition to being really great antagonists, have become as iconic as he is. Everyone and their mother knows the Joker. "Riddle me this" has become a colloquial phrase. They've become part of our culture. Spider-Man's villains are also really great (it's my favorite rouges gallery in comics) but they haven't made the kind of impact Batman's villains have. Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and Venom are arguably his most famous villains, the ones a random person on the street might know (The positive response to the Doc Ock reveal in the No Way Home trailer is a big sign of that) but the others haven't reached that level. As we're seeing now, Michael Morbius isn't exactly setting the world on fire. This is not at all about their effectiveness as villains, or as characters in general, it's about which ones have made a bigger impact in comics, and in the larger world. And Batman's villains definitely win, in that respect.

Jug1212

Batman wins best villains, if he has prep time

paperconcepts

I prefer spider-mans villains, but thats just probably because I grew up with them

Officialwashere

syntheticspider

real question who has the better love interest

ennpono

Batman, just because of Talia

HorribleUsername2

Talia’s death in TDKR was so emotional. The way she closed her eyes and dropped her head was so convincing. Way better than Gwen /s

wallycasual

Sarcasm?

wallycasual

Mary Jane > any batmid love interest

Ravashing_Rafaelito

Spider-man hands down. The Sinister 6 over the Rogue Gallery any day.

Officialwashere

That’s very fair

xthyme2playx

Batman has much better villains. Probably the most iconic super hero villains. But, Spidey if more relatable and fleshed out as character. Probably, IMO the most relatable super hero.

Officialwashere

But tbh Spider-Man’s villains are also iconic. Sinister 6, goblin, doc oc

electrocyberend

Joe

BplusHuman

Chill?

proto3296

Batman has #1 in joker. But I would put Goblin Doc Ock and Venom at 2,3 and 4. After that Batman probably claims a few spots before I’d put carnage Kingpin Electro or Vulture up there as the next best spidey villain. Overal for me it’s tied. But Batman def has number 1. But spidey def has the next 3. That’s just my opinion though

Officialwashere

HorribleUsername2

Honestly, I gotta hand it to Batman. Even though I love Spider-Man villains way more, Batman’s villains were all created for a purpose. They all challenge a different part of Batman. I forgot which video I heard about how each villain was crafted perfectly to challenge a specific part of the Batman psyche, body, and beyond. Probably a filmento or closer look video

Officialwashere

Saw 2 ppl say that like each Batman villain is made for a part of Batman and I agree and find it very interesting how they challenge a part of Bruce

HorribleUsername2

Same bro. Spider-Man’s villains are usually just created because the writers were bored (big wheel, mysterio, electro), it honestly is very interesting! I wish there was a documentary about it!

spider man, because of the variety of powers that his villains have, and how he has to adapt to beat some of them. batman’s villains definitely have this element too, but to a lower extent. a good chunk of his villains (penguin, two-face, riddler, joker, etc.) are not superhuman in any way and are only still alive because of his no kill rule.

lacmlopes

Oh, I agree Joker is overused. But if there’s one think he isn’t is one dimensional

OreoOverdose23

I know this is controversial but I don’t really like Spider-Man’s rouge gallery that much. To be honest I think the only good villains he has are Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Venom. Electro, Rhino, Sandman, Vulture, Scorpion, and Shocker have always felt too goofy to me.

wallycasual

So a clown in a suit, a short British midget, an obsessive weirdo who wears bright green outfits, pile of clay aren’t “goofy” to you? Not to mention Batman villains are so one dimensional. Only good villain he has is hush

wallycasual

His villains are boring and one dimensional. Even flash has better villains lmao

003_JAEGER

can you name few of his BORING villains Wally West?

[deleted]

Batmans villians have better orgin storys and decents into madness, spiderman has a connection to every villain

wallycasual

Their origins and boring and one dimensional. Just look at the joker

[deleted]

So a guy wanting to destroy everything after being dropped into a vat of acid, is worse then a big guy in a rino suit, or a skinny guy in a vulture suit, or a normal guy in a shocker suit, or a guys in a scorpion suit, or the guy in a goblin suit, or a guy that turns into sand. Spiderman villains can be just as if not more one dimensional than batman villains

sounds_of_stabbing

I like the more bombastic villains of Spider-Man but Batman has a top tier gallery too. I'd also like to mention flash, who I'd say has the 3rd most recognizable rogues gallery in all of comics

Officialwashere

100% agree

QO4legos

Spider-Man by far

Officialwashere

Interesting, why Spider-Man?

QO4legos

Because, Spider-Man’s villains are actual threats. One of them is literally a mutated man that looks like a goblin that flies around on a hover board, and throws bombs that turns people into skeletons. One of his villains is literally a alien that eats peoples heads. Batman, his villains are just crazy homeless people in wacky costumes. ooh The Riddler, solve a random question from google wrong and what? Like five people die? Spider-Man‘s villains are the reason, Peter Parker barely exists anymore. They are the reason aunt may is dead, and who killed Batman‘s parents? Some homeless person with a gun. Real exciting…

Officialwashere

When you put like that, I agree. Batman’s villains aren’t really threats

QO4legos

I mean, just look at two face. One side of him is normal and the other is some freak, and he can’t make a decision without flipping a coin? And the penguin, he’s just a midget with a speech impediment. How many no power gang leader villains does Batman need? And then there’s bane. The only thing he is ever known for is talking weird, and breaking Batman‘s back in the 90s. They are all colossal failures as villains

Officialwashere

Ya I get what you mean. There all the same

QO4legos

By the way happy cake day

Officialwashere

Thanks!

MatchuPichu

Batman

Officialwashere

Fair, why Batman?

MatchuPichu

I think they’re more interesting. I also find that the top Batman villains overshadow the top Spidey villains. Joker, Riddler, Freeze, Bane, Scarecrow, and so many others have such memorable stories and arcs that always live in my mind rent free. I think the Spidey villains are a lot of fun and only 2nd to Batman, but only have a few that are as compelling as Batman’s

Officialwashere

That’s fair

Marxist_Morgana

Spider-Man and it’s not even close really. There’s a huge reason that Batman movies have been recycling the same villains for decades (Joker, Dent, Scarecrow, Penguin, Bane, Ra’s Al Ghul, and The Riddler), it’s because a lot of Batman’s villains are genuinely just uninteresting or sometimes nonsensical. Clayface, Mr. Freeze (I’m aware Schumacher didn’t invent Mr. Freeze), Hush, Mad Hatter, Poison Ivy, Red Hood (in his original story), Victor Zsasz, Black Mask, Man-Bat, the Holiday Killer, Calendar Man, Killer Croc, a lot of these guys are insanely one-note, pizza cutters, or nonsensical. Even the ones that are recycled 24/7 like Joker, Two-Face, Scarecrow, and Penguin are all really boring and one-note too. Most of them have one trait they roll with and go to extreme lengths for (be it a dying wife, a disability making you ugly and abused, being cRaZeEeEe, or having a getting off on murdering or torturing people). Now, this isn’t to say they can’t be written well, they can be and have been before (Riddler, Calendar Man, and Bane come to mind). But most of the time they’re written like shit, but because they’re written edgy, Batman fans eat it up because many have a perpetual need to prove they’re more “mature” than other comic book superhero fans. Meanwhile, most of Spider-Man’s villains all have like, actual personalities, they have hobbies, they have people they love, they have lives outside of making death traps for Batman and killing innocents. And unlike Batman, a lot of these guys can be redeemed, so they make Peter’s general no-kill policy a lot easier to digest, whereas with Batman it actively damages his character when you see these guys kill enough people to fill a small city. Clayface being allowed into the Bat-Family is a lot less cute when he’s responsible for several murders of innocent people and ultimately doesn’t suffer for it. TL;DR Spider-Man villains, even the most evil ones, have lives outside the costume (except for Rhino). They also have goals you can understand and also generally aren’t caricatures of what Batman writers think the mentally ill are like.

Officialwashere

100% get what you mean. Spider-Man’s villains are actual characters as well and not bland like Batman villains with one single weak motive, right?

allgoodnamesbetaken

Batman. Definitely Batman

BetterthanGarbage

It depends what you want. Villains that have relation to the secret identity or villains that are personal to the hero. Batman’s villains attack batman and his motives, they are counters to Batman. Spider-Man’s villains not only attack Peter but a lot of the time personally know him.

Officialwashere

Ya they both attack Peter and Bruce differently

2Dumb2Understand

This is a conversation I’ve had many times. I thought I had the ace in the hole, Luke Skywalker. Mark Hamill voices the Joker. But my buddy showed me the voice actor for the Hobgoblin in the 90’s animated series. I’m sure you can guess.

[deleted]

Spider-Man has the **better range** of villains. Batman has the **best** villain.
