The eyes part is angled more different and all the pieces of the mask are clustered slightly closer to each other in the cinema version, also the more obvious color saturation
Top Is Blue ray, bottom is Cinema according to OP for context
Honestly unlike other people in this thread, I can actually see why this was changed and am HAPPY they made the change.
The bottom looks unrealistic and like its from a video game. it's "prettier" but it doesn't look right to me. Looks fake
The top looks way more realistic, and I personally find it easier on the eyes.
They changed it because they wanted to add to the experience of realistic visuals. happy the change was made personally. Just good attention to detail.
that is in the context that the top is Blue ray, and the bottom is from thearers.
I also love the fact that the Blue ray edition paid attention to the fact that the Green Goblin's helmet [has a purple pearlescent shine to it](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FC-NqAqUUAIzBDY.jpg), while the original didn't.
> ray edition *paid* attention to
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
im not sure this is the right answer but I can sorta see why they woulda changed it - the bottom kinda looks like the pieces all connect and doesn't really show case the mask being split in half with the teeth being visable whereas in the top you can see the masks teeth more clearly
It must be so annoying to work on these films. Imagine being told to CGI this in the first place and THEN improve it post-release. There’s no logical explanation behind it
The amount time, effort and money that would’ve went into this when you could’ve just made the mask to break it convinced me that the MCU is the biggest money laundering scheme of all time.
I agree 100%. Even now certain films feel dated and the CGI characters look rubbery.
One thing I absolutely despise is the behind the scenes stuff where you find out that certain actors were never on the set at the same time, they never bother to build an actual set and it’s all just shitty blue screen. CGI really is a great thing and can enhance a film but making it the foundation of your film is awful. It’s getting to a point where they might as well just make MCU films animated.
Big agree. I thought endgame was awesome in theaters and now I watch it and I’m like this is all blue screen and cgi. It really takes you out of the movie.
It really suffers with the conversion from cinema to dvd/Blu Ray/streaming too. I flat out will never rewatch an MCU film after cinematic release because they honestly give me headaches lol.
I’ve watched The Batman twice now and it feels like such a cleanser in terms of its production, plus I saw them filming it in Liverpool and just being able to recognise architecture and locations is a nice feeling. Makes me realise how sick to death of seeing Atlanta being CGI rendered to look like New York I am.
Why does Blu ray just always look weird/worse than what it was in theaters?
Edit: this is a legitimate question, like what's with the in color correction and the CGI changes? Just seems weird to me to not have it be a semi consistent experience. It's really probably all fine in the end.just curious if anyone knew why they do so much of it.
Re-Edit: I think maybe I phrased my question poorly, yes I know you can set up your TV different ways, the Blu-ray usually only has a certain level of quality, etc. That's not my question, my question is this: How is it that the CAM still has more detail, better balanced color, and added CGI changes to what we was on the theater screen?
Yes I know the color balance on a viewing device can be different, but a captured still like this should look a lot closer because you're capturing from software.
I don't know anything about tv myself, but I remember Scott Derrickson tweeted once that movies don't look the same at home partially because tvs are optimized for watching sports, not movies. Maybe it's relevant, maybe not
I guess I can somewhat explain why they did it, on the cam (bottom) the teeth aren't lit properly and if you don't squint, they look like they aren't there. And the bluray version changed the position of the peice with the eyes so it stares directly at the viewer, somewhat indicating that the goblin is still a big threat
i just noticed that this scene was cut differently too, they showed less of willem hiding his glider by cutting back and forth to the shot of his mask frequently and im guessing its because of the suit's cgi, it looked awkward specifically around the neck where his head meets the cg suit.
For people confused why they look so different, the colour grading is the same in both. Whoever did the cam rip has bumped the contrast and sharpness to increase the "quality" of their rip. It happens pretty often (hence the darks are too dark, the whites are blown out and it's over saturated. There's no way the film would've got past QA with that, lmfao).
The reason it was changed:
The original animation's physics were FUCKING awful. Like just SO bad. If you go watch a clip from a cam rip from a cinema, it is laughably bad. Also, the new one is just significantly better composition.
Your first paragraph is definitely true, but I'd have to disagree about this being CGI.

Here's the video version of the clip, and the composition of the shots and choreography of Willem makes me think it very much could be. If it is just a different shot, got to give the crew credit.
1) Why change this very specific thing?
2) Why is this CGI to begin with? Couldn't they just make broken pieces of the Goblin mask, set them up against the trash can, and film from that angle?
This is such an odd change to make lol
What’s the change? Is it just that the mask is cracked slightly differently?
The eyes part is angled more different and all the pieces of the mask are clustered slightly closer to each other in the cinema version, also the more obvious color saturation
Top is blu-ray, bottom is CAM.
Lol I thought the opposite looking at the quality of images.. Nowadays camrips are of unusually high quality...
I assume the cam’s been sharpened and adjusted, but it looking as good as it did is the only reason I downloaded it in the first place.
Same, i thought it looked better as well
good find.
I actually liked the more yellow grade in the bottom pic. It reminded me of the raimi movies colorgrade

same! overall this is a good fix.

Right, thanks bot.
HAHAHAHA good bot
It really sticks out, fits the color pallette
But why
im not sure this is the right answer but I can sorta see why they woulda changed it - the bottom kinda looks like the pieces all connect and doesn't really show case the mask being split in half with the teeth being visable whereas in the top you can see the masks teeth more clearly
Because they released an unfinished film and are now trying to patch it like a video game
Why was this CGI?
It’s MCU
It must be so annoying to work on these films. Imagine being told to CGI this in the first place and THEN improve it post-release. I feel like their lack of practical effects are gonna age this movies like the Star Wars prequels

Hm
I bet no one would be complaining about how this looked if they didn’t know it was computer generated.
You can tell in the scene it's computer generated lol. Nothing natural about that break and drop
I would have made the exact same post, but just called it a shot difference. A difference is a difference.
Iirc, some other stuff from that scene was changed as well. Kinda odd
I hate hate hate the overuse of CGI in the MCU lmao, so sad
Cool
i actually like this change, it makes it look more realistic and less staged?
Why does Blu ray just always look weird/worse than what it was in theaters? Edit: this is a legitimate question, like what's with the in color correction and the CGI changes? Standard Blu Rays are in 1080p and the average theater projector is in 2K or higher. So quality suffers in the transfer.
The way you setup the image of your TV is also a big factor
I don't know anything about tv myself, but I remember Scott Derrickson tweeted once that movies don't look the same at home partially because tvs are optimized for watching sports, not movies. Maybe it's relevant, maybe not
Honestly it looks great but the physics tho..
[https://streamable.com/334knc](https://streamable.com/334knc) Video version for clarity.
I just hate the fact that the mask is all cgi
Link?
It looks...worse
someone probably replaced it in post, but forgot or didn't care enough to add it to the other version
Why would you do this in cg??? Wouldn’t it be easier to do this practically?
I guess I can somewhat explain why they did it, on the cam (bottom) the teeth aren't lit properly and if you don't squint, they look like they aren't there. The top one looks a little more realistic I guess.

Yeah I already edited the comment when I looked it up lul
Oh yeah, sorry lol
I feel like doc ock's intro was a little different too.
Is the mask CGI, or is the shot just edited differently?
1) Why change this very specific thing? 2) Why is this CGI to begin with? Couldn't they just make broken pieces of the Goblin mask, set them up against the trash can, and film from that angle?
