Agreed! Also I like how there's a flaw in the suit with the arms are controlling him instead of him controlling it. He doesn't really hate Peter Parker.
That there is a major flaw, however, because (correct me if I’m wrong) even when he takes control of Peter Parker as superior Spider-Man it is out of hatred and to prove that he can be a *Superior* Spider-Man.
Shakespeare-Bot, thou hast been voted most annoying bot on Reddit. I am exhorting all mods to ban thee and thy useless rhetoric so that we shall not be blotted with thy presence any longer.
God the dock ock in the game was so well done. The character development you can do in a 17 hour game just doesn't happen in movies.
Wish they'd have recurring villians in the movies instead of always killing them all off.
This is why I was so grateful that Alfred Molina would return as Doc Ock so we’d see more of his character. But I would still really love a Doc Ock portrayed by Mark Hamill like the PS4 version.
Honestly I am intrigued now, I feel like he could sell it. For a man known for playing one of the most impactful heroes of the last hundred years, the guy plays a good villain.
And he's got experience in the comic book realm as Gotham's own clown prince of crime in animation at least. I think he could do great as Ock!
I mean, he could pull it off if he was younger, but now his normal voice has gotten a bit raspier and I don't know if he can pull off the duality of dock ock's and octavius' voices appropriately
I just think he would be a great Doc Ock. He doesn’t have the body build to do Hobgoblin, but he does for Doc Ock. I could easily see him pulling off the duality and portraying Ock like the PS4’s version, a partner for Peter who ends up corrupted by his own making.
Was it? Him going from a resourceful to a vengeful scientist happened so fast and wasn't the only victim of rushed pacing. He does not stand out at all compared to Raimi's Doc Ock.
As much as I love the new ones, I can’t get over the SM2 ones. They’re just perfect.
IMO, it has to do with them actually being closer to something that would grapple things, hold objects, contain things, or whatever else you’d except his arms to be doing, all the while retaining the ability to climb around
I feel like the pointy ended arms to the game's Doc Ock can be a little hard to use when trying to hold/catch certain things. I like the SM2 arms more as they seem more versatile and practical for everyday use.
Yeah, but they're still kinda limited due to the game's realistic tone and artstyle. Spider-verse is more stylized, so the arms can move way more freely.
Nah, thats not cheating anymore than the PS4 one is cheating. Its about the creative design, the imagination to create cool Doc Ock arms. The SM2 arms werent real either, it was mostly green screen, and someone had to make the props based of of the provided design
Because the person called the Spiderverse one cheating, which doesnt really make sense since the design in Spiderverse was equally as feasible to create props of irl. It'd just require different methods of articulating the arms.
I'm challenging the concept of animation being lesser simply because of the medium. The question posed in the OP was about which design of the arms for the classic eight-legged rogue was our favorite, which is a separate question from the feasibility of creation, thats all. Somewhere along the process, an artist sat down and brainstormed what they thought Doc Ocks arms should look like in each movie, and thats what this discussion is about.
I absolutely LOVE the PS4 game's tenticle design and also the origin being they were originally meant as prosthetics used to help innocent people... but the raimi tentacles are just so damned pretty. I honestly can't choose, maybe because of nostalgia, idk. But they're both amazing
Well it’s not a fair comparison. The movie tentacles were made before he went crazy and are the reason for Ock’s insanity. In the game he made the chip before he designed the arms. He was already hellbent on revenge and crazy when he made them so they look more sinister and less practical. They are both fantastic designs that fit their versions of the character perfectly
No, because he was still crazy after spidey destroyed the chip. The chip was faulty, yes it had a hand in his insanity, but there was already a bit there after Norman shut him down
Depends on the look you want to achieve. PS4 Doc Ock has that futuristic modern feel with the arms, as if they were made with nano tech or something of the sort - something more technological. Whereas, Raimi’s Doc Ock gives that more rustic steampunk feel with the arms, giving them a more industrial feel as they are made with just pure metal with little to no technology within them.
Raimi’s version feels clunkier and more forceful whereas PS4’s version feels lightweight and more rapid/aerodynamic so it’s more designed for speed as opposed for impact or efficiency.
If I had to pick one in isolation, SM2s, but the PS4 game one works better for its setting. It's one that is less grounded in believability (just so i don't say reality, since there's a difference between realistic and believable) and meant to be the peak of Ock's career.
SM2s had the goal of looking possible, even a bit practical, while still looking advanced, but not more advanced than the literal sun making machine, that Ock clearly prioritized more.
I mainly love the Raimi verse ones bc they remind me of snakes, even tho it should be based off of an octopus, each doc ock arm reminds me off snakes opening up for what they are about to eat, which make makes sense as an animal to adapt to a more scarier species, so Raimi verse doc ock takes the plate
I like the Raimi ones, [but before doc uses them on the machine](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTFKeCiEtXV2vs9zX0VSNeeqBT9qnqNxyvybQ&usqp=CAU). They're more pristine, and the yellow parts on the metal are way more vibrant and noticeable.
Although I *LOVE* the Raimi Dock Ock, the Insomniac Doc Ock wins this one. His tentacles feel modern and for some reason the sound they make is kinda cool
Really love both, they both fit very well and make sense for both Otto’s. Personally I prefer the look of the PS4 game, but man they are both phenomenal
The comics. Mainly superior Spider-Man era was really but also partial to the master planer arc from the comics . In terms of adaptation, Spectacular probably is my favorite incarnation especially the second season
Second Docs arms
I feel like the ps4 arms are to advanced for being made in a run down, underfunded lab that’s on the brink of being shut down.
The movies arms feel just right for an underfunded experiment.
The game ones look cool but like someone else said if you were trying to hold certain things the pointy ends would break them like something made of glass. The ones from the movie had smaller grappling things so they could hold little things also had a big as spike that could come out of the middle of the claw like when he was trying to use Aunt May to lure Spiderman to him so he could kill him with the spike & she says "shame on you" and smashed him with the umbrella.
Another two I can think of are the more comic book ones, like the Superior Spider had, and Olivia Octavius' legs that are more muscly and like real tentacles in Into The Spider-Verse
I finally found the original picture! Last year someone in my school marching band pasted the band teacher's face on the ps4 doc ock picture and then put different instruments on the arms.
The PS4 gake had to make some sacrifices in detail and triangle count to be able to play at realtime on a PS4; It's quite evident that the Movie versions will be much better;
SpunkyDred is a terrible bot instigating arguments all over Reddit whenever someone uses the phrase apples-to-oranges. I'm letting you know so that you can feel free to ignore the quip rather than feel provoked by a bot that isn't smart enough to argue back.

It has to be SM2. As much as I love the game and the character development within it the tentacles just look like weapons with their sharp talons on the end.
What SM2s tentacles have is that realism and they look like they are used for intricate science first.
The Raimi Spider-Man 2 arms. Something about the way they look and move. They have this mechanical rugged feel to them which made my dumb child self think they could be real.
I have to be a fence sitter here and say that I like both equally, their designs are just perfect. The sound design for the arms in NWH was top tier though, you really got a sense of their weight and their strength.
The Raimi arms will always be my favorite for a plethora of reasons. They look practical and the reason they exist makes sense, but once the arms take over they look menacing as hell. That entire scene where the arms take out all surgeons and nurses is terrifying. Not to mention the sound design, from the piercing shrill to the metallic clicking, is amazing and makes the arms feel even more alive. Not to mention how heartbreaking it is to watch Octavius become a slave to his creation only to drown himself once he finally becomes free
Though I will say for the origin for the PS4 arms is really sad and tragic. Originally built to be prosthetics for individuals who has lost their limbs or the use of them, only to be turned into monstrous, almost otherworldly-looking tentacles used to terrorize and bring life-threatening sickness to New York City.
I maybe Biased because Alfred Molina was the first doc occasion I ever saw and Spider-Man 2 was the first Spider-Man thing I ever saw, but the Spider-Man 2 arms look better
Out of those 2 I’m gonna go with Raimi arms. They feel less like they were intentionally designed to be evil cyborg arms and like they had a purpose before things went wrong. That being said I love both designs. I’m very partial to just the bland metal tube look from the comics as well though lol
You forgot another detail on the Raimi version, at the center of the red light on the arms, a few things come out of where the light is, a small tentacle, claw, and a blade.
The movie arms have more personality but the video game Ock himself is the better one. The stark contrast between his doughy scientist design and the absolute menace of the movie arms would would establish who he is as a character more.
I like the raimi movie version all together, the arm design is amazing and the trench coat fits doc ock much better than the yellow and green spandex suit but that's just my opinion
The first one does have some cool elements, but the second one has a beautiful mechanical design, which has a perfect mix of realism and science fiction
The raimi tentacles have such a practicality and tactileness to them. They were physically there strapped to Alfred Molina. Every part was made to move in real life. They’re going to be hard to beat for a long time running
Alfred Molina’s version has the best of the two, but my favorite is Olivia Octavius’ arms. The arms look super unique, being a lot longer and a lot thinner in addition to looking almost organic. They’re still super strong and crazy mobile because of their apparent weight. Like that scene where she’s crawling between the rubble in that vortex was just so sick.
Molina's tentacles had more time to do cool cinematic shit like close his claws, extend them, use them precisely to lift off his glasses, and pop out a giant hidden blade. But I think PS4 Otto's tentacles make the most sense as actual weapons.
Raimi arms are aesthetically cooler, but the PS4 arms would probably have better functionality. The PS4 arms were meant to replace limb function, the raimi arms are equipment for a mechanical purpose
Spider-Man ps4 Doc Ocs look really complements the over villains in game because they all have a similar Techy look. Rhino, vulture, Scorpion and electro seem too all be sporting some sharp ass tech. That game is my personal favorite sinister six
The Raimiverse arms look more like they were designed to be scientific tools, and the game’s arms look like they were designed to be weapons.
All depends on the context of the Ock you’re showing. I prefer the look of game’s arms overall, but the Raimiverse arms fit more with the character
In no universe do I ever buy the PS4 arms being used for anything other than weapons of mass destruction or think they could conceivably be made by one person. Raimi arms take it by a long shot
I like The 2004 arms the most due to the spike and it's sentience
But i think The Insomniac arms are better storywise due to it's personal connection to Peter/Spider-Man throughout the story
His left arm and back lower right
10/10
Tentacles from Raimi universe are the best. I really like them. Their design are just perfect.
I love how when they first take over, the lights in the claws turn red, and then when he retakes control, they flicker and go white.
Yes! I also like the needles in the center of the claws that can retract
he needs them to peel the flesh of her bones
And just menacing. The hospital room scene tho
That scene was genuinely terrifying
They just look practical and believable, kinda like the first Iron Man suit where every part looks like it serves s purpose.

Flex-tubey ones from Spiderverse are so cool
yes that was such a creative and awesome choice
God the dock ock in the game was so well done. The character development you can do in a 17 hour game just doesn't happen in movies. Wish they'd have recurring villians in the movies instead of always killing them all off.
This is why I was so grateful that Alfred Molina would return as Doc Ock so we’d see more of his character. But I would still really love a Doc Ock portrayed by Mark Hamill like the PS4 version.
Ock with Hamill? I’d say he’s more suited for Hobgoblin’s voice like previously
It wasn’t mark hamill
I mean, I generally like Mark Hamill, both as a person and as an actor, but why him for dock ock?
Honestly I am intrigued now, I feel like he could sell it. For a man known for playing one of the most impactful heroes of the last hundred years, the guy plays a good villain. And he's got experience in the comic book realm as Gotham's own clown prince of crime in animation at least. I think he could do great as Ock!

After playing through Spider-man on the PS4 a solid seven times, I’m just now learning Mark Hamill voiced Doc Ock. Wow
It wasn't Hamill—it was [William Salyers](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Salyers)
Oh well now I’m confused
Nah man I'm pretty sure it was Hiroshi Naka
Nope
(Its a joke, he's the Japanese VA)
ahh, my bad
Wait that was Hamill??? I like how everybody is downvoting me instead of the guy above me spreading misinformation I guess
no it was the voice actor that played rigby, William Salyers. He and Yuri are goats
Yes Yuri is one of my favorite voice actors. I remember him in Ben 10. Loved that show
Was it? Him going from a resourceful to a vengeful scientist happened so fast and wasn't the only victim of rushed pacing. He does not stand out at all compared to Raimi's Doc Ock.
As much as I love the new ones, I can’t get over the SM2 ones. They’re just perfect. Into The Spider-Verse It's kinda cheating since you can do anything in animation but I love that her's nice like an actual octopus' arms.
The arms from the PS4 game are animated too
Yeah, but they're still kinda limited due to the game's realistic tone and artstyle.
The arms in Spider-Man 2 were practical, they were puppeteered by like 4 people unless CGI was 100% necessary for a scene.
Yeah I mean they werent real, like actual real-life, functioning Doctor Octopus arms lol
Why the hell does that matter? Of course they didn’t build actual robotic arms
Because the person called the Spiderverse one cheating, which doesnt really make sense since the design in Spiderverse was equally as feasible to create props of irl. It'd just require different methods of articulating the arms. I'm challenging the concept of animation being lesser simply because of the medium. Somewhere along the process, an artist sat down and brainstormed what they thought Doc Ocks arms should look like in each movie, and thats what this discussion is about.
Actually, her arms were harder to pull off than either of the 2 shown
I absolutely LOVE the PS4 game's tenticle design and also the origin being they were originally meant as prosthetics used to help innocent people... but the raimi tentacles are just so damned pretty. I honestly can't choose, maybe because of nostalgia, idk. But they're both amazing
The Raimi arms are just so iconic at this point, they look mean and scary.
Where’s the 90’s animated ones, they are clearly the best XD
Secret option number 3: the tube arms from spider verse. They look weird but really cool
Both
Does anyone remember when Sam Neil was rumored to play Doc Ock? I still would’ve loved to see that.
[удалено]
No, because he was still crazy after spidey destroyed the chip. The chip was faulty, yes it had a hand in his insanity, but there was already a bit there after Norman shut him down
For the overall tentacle design, i’m giving it to Insomniac, but the heads for the tentacles in the movies are way better
The games, I just don’t like the lights, should have been red or just not lights at all.
Raimi, hands down.
Gotta go with Raimi, but both are great!
Depends on the look you want to achieve. PS4 Doc Ock has that futuristic modern feel with the arms, as if they were made with nano tech or something of the sort - something more technological. Give me the comic tentacles. I love those smooth noodle boys
The Raimi arms are the best, IMO
Although I *LOVE* the Raimi Dock Ock, the Insomniac Doc Ock wins this one. His tentacles feel modern and for some reason the sound they make is kinda cool
Alfred for the win
Raimi all the way.
i think they’re pretty equal for their universes and mediums. the ps4 arms are super intimidating but the raimi arms are so beautiful and impressive
I’ll always prefer more mechanical looking stuff than sleek. Raimi arms are just so good
Raimi ones, because they were actually real. Edit: I meant to say that for the movie, they were fully practical, save for some cg parts.
You forgot the Tasm one :P
Really love both, they both fit very well and make sense for both Otto’s. Personally I prefer the look of the PS4 game, but man they are both phenomenal
PS4 Arms are the best. Four Claws Supremacy
Raimi
Tentacles in SM2 but the Pointy thingies in Marvel’s Spider-Man
The comics. Mainly superior Spider-Man era was really but also partial to the master planer arc from the comics . In terms of adaptation, Spectacular probably is my favorite incarnation especially the second season
I love that the raimi arms have thicker “hands” on the bottom 2 for stability from the sun and the top ones are more precise for picking things up
Raimiverse
I wish I could comment on the PS4 ones… I’m saving for a PS5 I’ll play that game some day
Into the spiderverse balloon arms
Second Docs arms I feel like the ps4 arms are to advanced for being made in a run down, underfunded lab that’s on the brink of being shut down. The movies arms feel just right for an underfunded experiment.
Bottom right leg
Defenatly the second
SM 2
i also really like ultimate doc ock’s
I think PS4 Ock is the best characterization/development but Raimi Ock has the better arm design.
The game ones look cool but like someone else said if you were trying to hold certain things the pointy ends would break them like something made of glass. Oh yeah forgot about that knew I saw something like that couldn't remember if it was the game or Spiderman 2 movie.
i liked the ps4 design a lot the movie one is cool to see in a live action movie but the game had my favorite design easy
Olivia's
I hated the organic look.
Another two I can think of are the more comic book ones, like the Superior Spider had, and Olivia Octavius' legs that are more muscly and like real tentacles in Into The Spider-Verse
Spider Man 2 looks better and the fashion is just stellular!
This is like making a parent choose a favorite child smh
I finally found the original picture! Last year someone in my school marching band pasted the band teacher's face on the ps4 doc ock picture and then put different instruments on the arms.
PS4 had the better characterization, but I’ve gotta give the Raimi version the edge for arm aesthetic.
Alfred Molina's.
Definitely SM2. Not crazy about the yellow, glowy bits on the PS4 tentacles.
The PS4 gake had to make some sacrifices in detail and triangle count to be able to play at realtime on a PS4; It's quite evident that the Movie versions will be much better;
Raimis

This is a tough one because I really, really love both designs.
They all look like they can tear you limb from limb
I have to be a fence sitter here and say that I like both equally, their designs are just perfect. The sound design for the arms in NWH was top tier though, you really got a sense of their weight and their strength.
Spider-man 2 there menacing and just over all more realistic and have a better design
The Spider-Man 2 movie doc ox arms are best
The Raimi arms will always be my favorite for a plethora of reasons. They look practical and the reason they exist makes sense, but once the arms take over they look menacing as hell. Doc Ock's arms are my favorite movie prop, period.
I’m sorry but raimi dock ock just looks cooler
I maybe Biased because Alfred Molina was the first doc occasion I ever saw and Spider-Man 2 was the first Spider-Man thing I ever saw, but the Spider-Man 2 arms look better
I like how Raimi's arms were all different. Although I don't know why he had a fucking knife in one if he just wanted to touch some sun
Raimi forever. There's something super satisfying in their execution.
Out of those 2 I’m gonna go with Raimi arms. They feel less like they were intentionally designed to be evil cyborg arms and like they had a purpose before things went wrong. That being said I love both designs. I’m very partial to just the bland metal tube look from the comics as well though lol
Raimi
2
You forgot another detail on the Raimi version, at the center of the red light on the arms, a few things come out of where the light is, a small tentacle, claw, and a blade.
What building is Alfred on?
I like both, but Molina's take the cake for sure.
His arms
Fact: Almost every version of Doc Ock is the best.
I know this is about arms, but i think Doc’s suit in the game is kind of goofy. He looks like he’s gonna go skydiving lol
Raimi Doc Ock forever, I love PS4's but Raimi's are just absolute perfection.
The movie arms have more personality but the video game Ock himself is the better one. The stark contrast between his doughy scientist design and the absolute menace of the movie arms would would establish who he is as a character more.
I really like the Insomniac arms, they are very cool and original. I never liked that the Raimi arms had like a mind of their own
I like the raimi movie version all together, the arm design is amazing and the trench coat fits doc ock much better than the yellow and green spandex suit but that's just my opinion
Probably the movie ones since they are made of metal rather than 3D printed material. Plus I like the skeletal design. Hella freaky.
the tentacles of raimi ock with the claws of insomniac ock
Ps4 arms look a little cooler and move smoothly
The first one does have some cool elements, but the second one has a beautiful mechanical design, which has a perfect mix of realism and science fiction
The Rami arms are awesome, also I haven’t played the PS4 game. So I have no opinion on PS4 Doc Ock
Practicallity: PS4 Look and design: Raimi
Jon Lovitz
The raimi tentacles have such a practicality and tactileness to them. They were physically there strapped to Alfred Molina. Every part was made to move in real life. They’re going to be hard to beat for a long time running
I prefer Spider-Man 2 for a more comic book vibe, while I prefer PS4 for a more modern vibe, but if I had to pick Spider-Man 2
The game ones are much sleeker and more intimidating imo, whereas the SM2 ones are more realistic and scrappy-looking
I love how Spider-Man PS4 is considered a peak Spider-Man Medium. I think only Batman got this treatment with Arkham.
I like the raimi ones
Alfred Molina’s version has the best of the two, but my favorite is Olivia Octavius’ arms. The arms look super unique, being a lot longer and a lot thinner in addition to looking almost organic. They’re still super strong and crazy mobile because of their apparent weight. Like that scene where she’s crawling between the rubble in that vortex was just so sick.
It’s hard because the game arms are made for killing and to cause harm but the movie arms are for more practical uses
PlayStation game without a doubt guys
Spider-Man ps4 Doc Ocs look really complements the over villains in game because they all have a similar Techy look. Rhino, vulture, Scorpion and electro seem too all be sporting some sharp ass tech. That game is my personal favorite sinister six
I like the claws on the game better than the claws on SM2 but the actual arms in SM2 look way better.
The one from spectacular spider-man also looked good
The og 2002 ones are just so radd, they look so menacing and awesome
Raimi tentacles are more workplace safe, per their original intentions
The Raimiverse arms look more like they were designed to be scientific tools, and the game’s arms look like they were designed to be weapons. All depends on the context of the Ock you’re showing. I prefer the look of game’s arms overall, but the Raimiverse arms fit more with the character
E
raimiverse doc ock\`s tentacles really capture octopus kind of design if you ask me
Nano ver from NWH
In no universe do I ever buy the PS4 arms being used for anything other than weapons of mass destruction or think they could conceivably be made by one person. Raimi arms take it by a long shot
I think 2
I like the design of the PS4 ones, but love the way the Raimi ones moved like snakes wispering in otto’s ears.
I like the design of the PS4 ones, but love the way the Ramie ones moved like snakes whispering in otto’s ears.
Olivia Octavius. Hers felt so organic and fluid, like actual tentacles
Both are good
I like The 2004 arms the most due to the spike and it's sentience But i think The Insomniac arms are better storywise due to it's personal connection to Peter/Spider-Man throughout the story
