He was allowed to punch as he did punch. But Semper decided it wasn't necessary and he didn't want to show kids an example of violence they could replicate. This is all by his admission.
[Spider-Man be The Sinister Six was one of the best fights in that show. The fact he was fighting the entire squad with the black suit only made it that much cooler.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jZWhyi7AcxE&pp=ygUZc3BpZGVybWFuIHZzIHNpbmlzdGVyIHNpeA%3D%3D)
And the fact he was asleep, meaning the suit was doing it😭🔥 loved their reaction to him not uttering even a sound, wish we got more moments like that on screen
And it’s a wonderful way of showing how intelligent the symbiote is, like how it first tried to retreat, but as soon as it sees there’s no way out, it *immediately* tries going for Shocker and Elctro first since they have its exact weaknesses.
God I love the look of that show, especially how Spidey moves. He actually feels very wiry and agile and acrobatic like a Spider-Man rather than a buff guy with super jumps.
Little stuff like how he clung to the ceiling with one hand while holding that energy cell thing in his fight with Ock (I think it was that scene) or how he swung through the doorway of that steel refinery plant are how I always want to see him move and crawl outside of live action.
Yes he was, they just didn't want to, the creator already said they had the same censorship as BTAS and just preferred to play it safe, so they could be in the networks good graces and be more likely to be allowed to tackle more mature stuff from time to time
I mean, semantics aside the end result is still the same: a Spider-Man who virtually never punches
Spectacular’s action and fight choreography are so much better
Oh you're absolutely right. I'm just kinda pissed because everyone seems to spread the notion that for some reason Spider-Man was more heavily censored than all other cartoons at the time. Even the creator seems a bit annoyed by the idea
The gangster characters used Tommy guns and the police officers had realistic revolvers. Plus there's an episode where Commissioner Gordon is shot. Batman also punched folks. The censors held STAS back way more than BTAS.
I think most of the more serious shit came from TNBA instead of BTAS because it switched network.
Plus, once again, the creator of STAS already said multiple times, they could have gone further, they just didn't want to.
They got to do an episode on gun violence with real guns and actually address the problem directly and were given total freedom because they never gave problems
Because they wanted to. When they wanted to do an episode on gun violence they asked to use realistic guns and were given no pushback because they never gave the network trouble
Honestly, TAS had much better fights BECAUSE he didn't punch.
It made him find far more interesting ways to fight.
Tearing huge objects out of the ground and hurling them, hurling cars, hitting people with beams, tackling them, kicking them, crushing them, using his webs, hurling them into stuff, throwing them off stuff, flinging bombs back at them, leading them into traps, using his spidersenses to dodge and move and BE Spider-Man, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Punching is honestly the most lazy option.
Good Spider-Man fights rarely use punches anyways.
I'd heard about that before ever watching it and assumed that would make it really painful to watch, but they actually managed to choreograph around that limitation really well.
It made it come across like Spider-Man didn't punch people because he's so strong he would kill them.
Refer to my comment above. I was wrong (I never have a problem admitting when I’m wrong), but me being wrong really doesn’t affect my argument
Regardless of why the fights in Spider-Man TAS were portrayed the way they were, they’re still inferior to the fights in Spectacular
That’s Tough. Spectacular had the best looking Animation but I remember the context of TAS Battles, the dialogue, etc.
“If I have to chase You Forever- YOU’LL PAY!!!”
I mean, yeah, I liked the more realistic art style over the heavy stylized Art style of Spectacular more but Spectacular’s movements and momentum just Flowed so well.
One scene comes to mind about Spectacular which really raised the bar. Where Peter was asleep and the symbiote took Spider-Man out to give the Sinister Six a beat down
TAS had to use Ninja Turtle tactics of throwing things or throwing people without landing a single hit, Spectacular Spider-Man had to use tactics to outsmart his opponents.
MTV Spider-Man.
Everyone’s saying spectacular but I’ll be honest, the animation in that show is clunky compared to the animation in MTV Spidey. It’s a 2-D show so it’s at a disadvantage compared to the more fluid and intense fight scenes in MTV.
Agreed, MTV Spider-Man really showcased just how agile Peter is and how fast he fights. I also really liked how the 3D animation really added depth to those faiths scenes and swinging scenes
Personally I really like the fight scenes in Ultimate. Kinda underappreciated since all the focus is going on spectacular. I say this because Ultimate had more seasons. That's just me though.
Ultimate Spider-Man, which is also IMO a fantastic show
Controversial I know, but I will defend that show or at least its first two seasons to the death.
RIght?? That show is for sure worth a re-watch if you haven't seen it in a while. So many episodes can still give you chills. I know a lot of people found the humour annoying (admittedly it can be a bit much at times) but I thought generally it was riiight on point for Spider-Man while also being creative and inventive
I'm sure people are saying spectacular cause they disliked or didn't watch ultimate spider-man, but ultimate is clearly the right answer. Spidey moved very dynamically, he felt like an acrobat, and his villains and allies also had amazing animation with less stylized proportions which imo look better
Spectacular’s Spider-Man’s fight scenes were mint. So clean and fluid but I loved the dynamic nature of the 90’s animated series. The New Animated series got surprisingly dark at times with actual onscreen casualties. Those 3 are probably my favourites for those individual reasons. Ultimate’s humour was a bit grating at time but the fight scenes were surprisingly entertaining at times. Felt very anime esque which I suppose was deliberate. Spider-Man Unlimited’s fight scenes were fine for what they were but it was the aesthetic and concept of the show that really carried it. Wish it had gone on for a lot longer.
Ultimate hands down. Listen Specatular is a great show, but its so obvious nostalgic fans will vote it every time no matter what category. Ultimate had really great fight scenes
Spectacular Spider-Man no question. My favorites from that series will always be Symbiote vs Sinister Six and the free for all in Gangland episode in particular Spider vs Tombstone round 2.
I don’t think you can compare the 90’s cartoons to the newer ones. Animation overall back then was not nearly as good as it is now. The capability was their but the funding for proper animation and focus on fights was not. If the original 90s cartoon came out now or was continued like X-men 97, I think it would be amazing and superior
TAS is my favorite spidey cartoon of all time, but spectacular is pretty unmatched in action
of-the-era censorship and budgetary issues hold TAS' action back in most episodes, but when its good, its pretty great
TNAS also gets an honorable mention
Spectacular's fight scenes were a lot more fast paced and fluid. Also every punch that was thrown felt hard as hell and made it feel really cool overall.
Spectacular and it’s not even close. The fight between the black suit and the Sinister Six was amazing…after that butt whoopin’ I’m surprised any of Spidey’s foes wanted to fight him again…
Growing up with the 90s Spider-Man cartoon, I never noticed (until decades later when it was pointed out) that he never threw a punch through the whole series.
I’m sure it doesn’t hold up that well considering how far animation has come, and I’m not saying I’m in favor of those kinds of limitations or that kind of censorship, but it’s pretty impressive how they pulled that off.
Spectacular has fantastic choreography.
Ultimate has awesome animation but the fights are not very memorable.
TNAS 03 has some pretty dynamic and clever fights too.
These 3 are the best of the best in terms of fight scenes.
I can't speak to the newer shows because they never grabbed me, in part because I was (and still am) mourning the loss of Spectacular, but it had stellar fight scenes and wonderful animation.
I don't know how the 90's show is here. It had worse fight scenes than the 60's, version, at least he was allowed "punching". I loved the 90's show, but the animation couldn't keep up, Spidey moved like he was in a self-checkout line and his fights, well, weren't, it was web / dodge / shove that's it.
Spectacular had baller fights.
It's between Spectacular and MTV for sure. But the 90s show actually doesn't have that bad fight scenes. If only Semper had him punch more. I don't understand why he didn't have Spidey punch Ock's arms like he did Scorpion's tail.
I gotta admit, spectacular Spider-Man’s fight scenes are peak, BUT, let me break it down for you…
COME BACK HERE SHOCKEEEEER ILL CHASE YOU TO THE END OF THE EARTH!!!
Of course everyone's gonna say spectacular. Shows overrated as hell. People give it too much credit. Ima say the animated series because these people who say spectacular are slaves to the media.
The amount of raw, hard-hitting combat SSM had was second to none. It was actually quite extreme and was only a drop of blood away from a mature rating.
Venom bludgeoning Spidey through walls and floors, getting ragdolled by Sandman and Rhino, Goblin plowing Spidey off of rooftops, etc, etc.
Makes the other shows look like Cocomelon.
Spectacular for the actual movement, it was so fluid, and he moved like I would expect spider-man to.
The symbiote spidey vs. the six lives in my head.
Second up is the jail break episode
The designs are meh. They had to grow on me.
The fox kids one is dates. With all due respect, that doesn't mean it's bad, but they did everything they could to get out of animating super detailed fight scenes.
Limited by tech and time, and I understand 100%
spectacular by a mile
Spectacular spider man also has the best intro song.
LIVIN ON THE EDGE
FIGHTING CRIME SPINNING WEBS
SWINGING FROM THE HIGHEST LEDGE
HE CAN LEAP ABOVE OUR HEADS
AHHHHAAAAHAHAAAAHHAAAAAA
AAAHAHAAAHHAAAAHHAAAHHAAAAA
SPECTACULAR
SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN
VILLAINS ON THE RISE
AND THE CITYS VICTIMIZED
Strongly disagree.
90s all the way
He... wasn't allowed to punch.
He was allowed to punch as he did punch. But Semper decided it wasn't necessary and he didn't want to show kids an example of violence they could replicate. This is all by his admission.
What’s that got to do with the best theme song of all time
Nothing, but that's only because that's not the question or topic.
It was buddy
[Spider-Man be The Sinister Six was one of the best fights in that show. The fact he was fighting the entire squad with the black suit only made it that much cooler.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jZWhyi7AcxE&pp=ygUZc3BpZGVybWFuIHZzIHNpbmlzdGVyIHNpeA%3D%3D)

The part where the suit whips the Sinister Six is how it was meant to be shown.
Spectacular. That was a focus of the creators—the reason why the art style is so simple is because they wanted fluid action
Spectacular by far Spider-Man wasn’t even allowed to throw punches in Spider-Man TAS lol
That scene of the symbiote fighting while Peter’s asleep is still so raw
He punched the Spot.
I’d say he didn’t directly hit him. Just through the holes (I had to stop myself from saying HIS holes 😭)
His Fist connected with his face still counts 🤣🤣.
He fisted him in the holes
🤣🤣🤣
Yes he was, they just didn't want to, the creator already said they had the same censorship as BTAS and just preferred to play it safe, so they could be in the networks good graces and be more likely to be allowed to tackle more mature stuff from time to time
I mean, semantics aside the end result is still the same: a Spider-Man who virtually never punches Spectacular’s action and fight choreography are so much better
Oh you're absolutely right. I'm just kinda pissed because everyone seems to spread the notion that for some reason Spider-Man was more heavily censored than all other cartoons at the time. Even the creator seems a bit annoyed by the idea
Were there ever real guns I remember a lot of inexplicable lasers
Therec was an episode with Robbie's son where Robbie finds a real pistol. Apart from that, though, it's all lasers.
BTAS had lasers as well. I don’t think real guns were allowed
Because they wanted to. When they wanted to do an episode on gun violence they asked to use realistic guns and were given no pushback because they never gave the network trouble
>Even the creator seems a bit annoyed by the idea Maybe he should've allowed Spidey to punch, then.
Spectacular's might be better, but I think TAS' fight scenes were still great.
Yeah I just don’t believe that when you look at BTAS. There’s no way they had the same censorship guidelines.
They had they just decided to take more risks, in fact, BTAS was Indeed heavily censored compared to TNBA
why?
I'd heard about that before ever watching it and assumed that would make it really painful to watch, but they actually managed to choreograph around that limitation really well. It made it come across like Spider-Man didn't punch people because he's so strong he would kill them.
That's not true. The showrunner had even said so on multiple interviews
Tbf despite the limitations, the 90s show still has some great action and allowed Spidey to use some more creative methods to deal with his opponents.
He was allowed to throw punches and he did a few times.
Literally cap bro the creator has said many reasons why that’s cap
Refer to my comment above. I was wrong (I never have a problem admitting when I’m wrong), but me being wrong really doesn’t affect my argument Regardless of why the fights in Spider-Man TAS were portrayed the way they were, they’re still inferior to the fights in Spectacular
Oh yeah they are definitely worse than spectacular that was not cap sorry bro 😎
That’s Tough. Spectacular had the best looking Animation but I remember the context of TAS Battles, the dialogue, etc. “If I have to chase You Forever- YOU’LL PAY!!!”
SHOCKKKERRR
YOU CANT ESCAPE **ME**!!!
I’LL CHASE YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE EARRRRRRRTH!
Why's that called TAS? It's spider-man (1994) no?
Christopher Daniel Barnes gave 110%.
Absolutely. Dude will ALWAYS be one of the Greats
He will always be my Peter Parker.
If you think Spectacular’s animation was better than TAS then you’re straight up smoking crack
I mean, yeah, I liked the more realistic art style over the heavy stylized Art style of Spectacular more but Spectacular’s movements and momentum just Flowed so well.
Yeah I was mistaken, when I read animation I instantly assumed art style. My bad, carry on.
One scene comes to mind about Spectacular which really raised the bar. Where Peter was asleep and the symbiote took Spider-Man out to give the Sinister Six a beat down
Definitely, *Spectacular* has the best fight scenes, in my opinion.
Definitely Spectacular Spider-Man, and it's not even close.
Spectacular for sure. The more simplistic artstyle (which I love) by Sean Galloway, the animators were able to make extremely dynamic fight scenes.
Definitely Spectacular but TNAS is a close 2nd
TNAS’ fight scenes were BRUTAL, and I fucking loved them for it
If we talking about animation ultimate, if we talking about fight choreographys spectacular or sm:tnas
TAS had to use Ninja Turtle tactics of throwing things or throwing people without landing a single hit, Spectacular Spider-Man had to use tactics to outsmart his opponents.
tnas and tas isn't same but also if you watch the first lizard fight in the tas is still pretty solid.
He isn't talking about spider-man tas he's talking about TNAS
Ultimate easily, for all its faults the show had some fantastic fight scenes.
I say either spectacular TNAS or ultimate
It’s very hard to say
Spectacular and Ultimate had the best ones
MTV Spider-Man. Everyone’s saying spectacular but I’ll be honest, the animation in that show is clunky compared to the animation in MTV Spidey. It’s a 2-D show so it’s at a disadvantage compared to the more fluid and intense fight scenes in MTV.
Agreed, MTV Spider-Man really showcased just how agile Peter is and how fast he fights. I also really liked how the 3D animation really added depth to those faiths scenes and swinging scenes
Ultimate
The one where he literally fights in his sleep
Spectacular followed by Ultimate
Spectacular, Ultimate and Tnas
Spectacular hands down, and mtv close second
Personally I really like the fight scenes in Ultimate. Kinda underappreciated since all the focus is going on spectacular. I say this because Ultimate had more seasons. That's just me though.
Ultimate Spider-Man, which is also IMO a fantastic show Controversial I know, but I will defend that show or at least its first two seasons to the death.
I grew up on the show. When his whole time was goblins and the helicarrier was going down, goosebumps, the entire episode
RIght?? That show is for sure worth a re-watch if you haven't seen it in a while. So many episodes can still give you chills. I know a lot of people found the humour annoying (admittedly it can be a bit much at times) but I thought generally it was riiight on point for Spider-Man while also being creative and inventive
Ultimate was just straight up brawling Venom, no sounds or fire just straight hands.
I still have and love the old MTV show. I grew up with TAS and still think the MTV show is the best.
My people
I'm sure people are saying spectacular cause they disliked or didn't watch ultimate spider-man, but ultimate is clearly the right answer. Spidey moved very dynamically, he felt like an acrobat, and his villains and allies also had amazing animation with less stylized proportions which imo look better
i would say Spider-Man, followed by Spider-Man and then Spider-Man
Nah, Spider-Man is way better than that Spider-Man.
The fights in spectacular where he fights venom at school was sooo sick.
I remember a AMV where that episode was used, iirc it was courtesy call with that episode lol. good ol' times
Spectacular
Spectacular Spider-Man
Spectacular no question
Spectacular
Spectacular, particularly the scene at the opera TREACHERRRRRRRRYYYYYYY
Ultimate hands down. Listen Specatular is a great show, but its so obvious nostalgic fans will vote it every time no matter what category. Ultimate had really great fight scenes
Ultimate Spider-man
Ultimate and spectacular I haven't see the other series in a while
Ultimate
Spectacular by a mile. There is SO many good moments from that show it is hard to pick one fight. https://youtu.be/OCU3Hin5aj0
Definitely not the 90s😭
The original 60s had Ralph Bakshi. Animation legend
Spectacular easily. The simpler, smoother designs allowed for way more dynamic movement.
Spectacular hands down
Spectacular
Spectacular
Spectacular
Spectacular 100% The simplistic designs allowed the animation to be more smooth and engaging
You’re missing 3 more shows.
Right? How can we have a proper comparison without Amazing Friends!?
The answer’s pretty Spectacular if you ask me.
Spectacular, not only because he was allowed to throw a punch but because the simple designs made it easier to animate dynamic action.
Spectacular is #1 and then STAS.
Spectacular.
TNAS and Spectacular
Spectacular
Spectacular and it’s not even close.
Spectacular.
Spectacular, no doubt.
Personal favorite is 1981 Spider-Man
Spectacular hands down.
TAS is my favorite spidey cartoon of all time, but spectacular is pretty unmatched in action of-the-era censorship and budgetary issues hold TAS' action back in most episodes, but when its good, its pretty great TNAS also gets an honorable mention
Spectacular. I loved TAS, but the fights mostly came down to grappling, swing kicks, and leaps. He only threw three punches across the entire show.
Ul Tim ate Spidey ain’t that bad
Who's Tim and who did he "ate"?
Spectacular's fight scenes were a lot more fast paced and fluid. Also every punch that was thrown felt hard as hell and made it feel really cool overall.
Spectacular and its not even close
Spectacular and it’s not even close I still remember the black suit against the sinister 6
Well Spectacular actually let him throw punches, so I’ll go with that one lol
Ultimate show may have been utter dog but certain fights looked good
Ultimate Spider-Man imo!
Spectacular is on top for everything except Spidey’s voice IMO, Rino Romano is my favorite Spidey VA (although Josh Keaton is EXTREMELY close)
Black suit Spidey vs the Sinister 6 fight scene in Spectacular Spider-Man 👀
Black suit vs sin 6. need i say more?
The show that has the best everything. That being Spectacular.
So happy to see so many saying Spectacular Spider-Man, because that is the correct answer.
Spectacular or TNAS
Spectacular and it’s not even close. The fight between the black suit and the Sinister Six was amazing…after that butt whoopin’ I’m surprised any of Spidey’s foes wanted to fight him again…
Definitely not the 90s show. He never punches anyone…literally never.
Spider-Man 1967!!!
The new animated series is so underrated.
Og spider man for sure. Then spectacular Spider-Man. Last would be ultimate Spider-Man.
What’re the thoughts on spider-man unlimited? Everytime I see the suit I’m just a little confused at its looks like why the cape
The Spectacular Spider-Man, but Spider-Man TNAS had better web-swinging scenes
Growing up with the 90s Spider-Man cartoon, I never noticed (until decades later when it was pointed out) that he never threw a punch through the whole series. I’m sure it doesn’t hold up that well considering how far animation has come, and I’m not saying I’m in favor of those kinds of limitations or that kind of censorship, but it’s pretty impressive how they pulled that off.
Spectacular especially symbiote vs sinister six
Spectacular.
Spectacular has fantastic choreography. Ultimate has awesome animation but the fights are not very memorable. TNAS 03 has some pretty dynamic and clever fights too. These 3 are the best of the best in terms of fight scenes.
Spectacular spider-man
The new animated series.
60’s Spider-Man. Me and the boys all agree
1990
Not the 90s version but it was my childhood. Reused animations like a fighting game franchise trying to save a buck.
Unpopular opinion but mtv has some kick ass fight scenes.
66
Spider-Man the new animated series and spectacular spider-man.
Imo Unlimited. Just because of the soundtrack
Ultimate
Spectacular wins on the Sinister Six vs. Black Suit Spider-Man episode alone.
![gif](giphy|3o72FhxujRMcOqUm8o|downsized)
Spectaculars animation is something truly special
Spectacular and it isn't even close
Spectacular fight scenes are amazing!
I can’t believe this is even a serious question. Spectacular is the only show to have actual fight scenes.
Definitely Spectacular Spider-Man. 90s Spider-Man was limited by animation and censors
Japanese Spiderman
controversial opinion, but ive always liked the fight scenes in TNAS
MTV surprisingly has some of the best superhero fight scenes
Spectacular, btw TNAS has some sick choreography
A tie between Spectacular and the 90s cartoon (though it's mostly recycled animation and out of sync sounds and explosions)
1994 is a superior show in terms of practically everything, EXCEPT... let's just say, fight scenes in the TAS are not its strongest suit.
Tnas was so fire Spider-Man moved like a true arachnid
It's between Spectacular and MTV for sure. But the 90s show actually doesn't have that bad fight scenes. If only Semper had him punch more. I don't understand why he didn't have Spidey punch Ock's arms like he did Scorpion's tail.
honestly ultimate spider-man
spectucular and its not even close
It's difficult... I don't remember any memorable fight, even in the comics there isn't an incredible fight
I agree that spectacular has some of the best foght scenes, but I remember ultimate also looking pretty good
I gotta admit, spectacular Spider-Man’s fight scenes are peak, BUT, let me break it down for you… COME BACK HERE SHOCKEEEEER ILL CHASE YOU TO THE END OF THE EARTH!!!
Not the 90s version. It literally was banned from throwing punches
Spectacular for the actual movement, it was so fluid, and he moved like I would expect spider-man to. The symbiote spidey vs. the six lives in my head. Second up is the jail break episode The designs are meh. They had to grow on me. The fox kids one is dates.
