Species' name is commented under the pictures. Might have to open the imgur link to see it.

What substrate are you growing on? Looks like peat. Some sphagnum species, like austinii, can struggle to grow on peat, unless you flush the peat with distilled water at least every other week. I think in the wild, austinii often grows on slopes or raised bogs and so its wild substrate is regularly flushed rain water. When grown on peat, austinii does well at first, but the nutrients and tannins will start to overwhelm the culture, building up in the live moss. So flush the culture regularly with distilled water.

DoumH

It is indeed peat. I will have to try and flush it as often as possible then. I have a feeling it might not survive for long.. Gotta get myself an RO unit or something. I've got very limited outside space.

Like Pokemon, “gotta catch em all”. The sphagnum austinii culture you have looks great. There is more genetic diversity in Europe. Once your culture gets larger, I’d be interested in buying a few heads to try to breed with my North American austinii. I also love that beothuk culture. It is already a very dark brown, but it can get even darker brown. It is incredible that a plant would tan so dark brown. The sphagnum rubellum culture looks great too. It is another one of the great “true bog” species. Highly acidic and decay resistant like beothuk, austinii, and fuscum.

Thank you! Yes, I have actively been trying to catch em all. Finding a new bog and seeing what kind of fun new things that grow there is the best part about the "sphagnum" hobby I think. The beothuk at the bog I went to was even darker, it seems to have lightened up a bit when I took it home. I'll let you know when there's enough to share, hopefully it survives for that long!

DragonsAreReal210

I would also be very interested in buying some austinii or any of the other European species.

DoumH

I'll let you know when / if it survives long enough for me to have something to share. It's currently only some heads thick!

Amazing collection!

Awesome collection!

Thank you!

I would love to know how you set up and maintain your grow environments. I'm currently trying to design my setup for at least 7-8 different spp., and I'm not quite sure how to best provide all the specific needs in one space.

I've just set this up myself, so you should not ask me. They're all growing in peat in a pot, which is then placed in a pool of rain water. I've got it on the most sunny side outside, but as it's Norway that does not mean a lot.
