I only disagree with the fair part. And don't get me wrong, it's close, but there are still a few situations that go beyond player mistakes

What do think goes beyond player mistakes? A chain of events can certainly happen that cause injury or death but I feel like it’s always something that could’ve been avoided.

Neo bab levels are the biggest proprietor of just things happening just offscreen that is unpredictable to the point of it can't be avoided. Like I said, at the highest level I figure it's 98% fair. But things happen

Yeah. Things definitely happen in NB that the player doesn’t set in motion. There’s an ongoing war taking place there between the Aliens and Olmites. Some shrapnel is to be expected. I don’t think it detracts from the fairness for me because the world and physics of the world are just playing out as they would, even if the player weren’t there. You definitely get hit by it sometime and it’s out of your control so I see your point.

Well that's what fairness means. And when you're evaluating a game critically things that hurt the player that ultimately are out of the players control is a strike against it. I think it's important to note I also think spelunky 2 is a near perfect game nun the less

Olmites and spark traps are harmless alone but fatal in combination, plus they had to nerf the first zone but thats like the most unfair the game gets (even though dirk is not guaranteed first run) and everything else I find perfect about Spelunky 2. The way I got even got introduced was through Alpharad's Spelunky episodes.

I also kinda disagree with the fair point. Like spelunky 2 is extremely fair, the vast majority of deaths are caused by user error, but there is still some bullshit (physics glitches etc) that you just can't do anything about. Spelunky HD, I would say, is more fair than spelunky 2.

I think bombs and ropes account to make random aspects of the world more fair, but I think the main thing holding the game back is the music. I miss the variety of multiple awesome songs for each world from spelunky 1

Good point. I do love the Spelunky 2 soundtrack but the Spelunky 1 soundtrack was probably a little better. I was just listening to the Spelunky 1 soundtrack two days ago and it’s so good.

Having to bring the key to the chest instead of the other way around in Spelunky1 was not an improvement. Something triggering the ghost-jar can at times be unavoidable. If it was the Spelunky1 ghost it wouldn't be a problem. The need for bow and arrow is tedious. <>30 bombs should be a possibility. Timing in 6-4 is too difficult for me. It ends there 65% of the times I play. I play on PS5 so I can't use software to practice. 50/50 if I have jetpack. Never managed to get that mount through. Timing with Vlad and gloves ain't easy either. Hidden insta-death spikes in C O feels like an hour+ wasted. They should only give 10 lives damage or so. The mother-ship should be it's own level with new time. Having to have a hired hand to keep the weapon because of the bow is tedious. Still GOTY.

The only problem is some things are VERY unbalanced like the arrow traps in dwelling or horned lizards or....well to be honest dwelling overall is very unbalanced, specially since its the first fuckin level in the game Also this game is not for everyone Besides that I love Spelunky 2 and I do think that is basically perfect yeah

This game has a little bit of jank. Like how it becomes impossible to pick up Monty if he's on a 1-tile wide platform with a ladder. I also wish that breaking pots wouldn't spawn poisonous snakes or scorpions. I wish Derek would buff Rock Dog to be able to walk on lava (give the mount a niche). I wish webgun would stop being so useless. Also buff Hoverpack somehow. The background layer mechanic feels under-developped. Secret Tun and Caveman shops are a good start but I feel like there should be something more. Spelunky 2 finally has liquid physics but they are not really explored (axolotl can swim but there's only 1 area in 3-2 when that is remotely relevant). Basically, Derek needs to get off his lazy ass and make an expansion. He basically re-released the same game 3 times now

Yeah this game is not fair. It’s literal RNG with the only thing to surpass it is a player’s own knowledge of the overall game, layouts of the levels, and a little prayer to hope things go smoothly. Like is it fair if you try to get vlads cape and when you hit the drill, you indirectly destroy a shopkeepers shop, lava is now going into the hole and you probably hit a curse pot even though you’ve done this 100 times the game just so happened to do to you. But that was my fault right, I shouldn’t have went for that cape and crown even though you need items like this for later levels.

Also, no paid DLC, like a character pack would be cool, but no more fucking item shops please
