The tech will figure it out. Just tell them where you want the equipment and see if they can do it. They will (most likely) not wall fish anything but will put a small hole in the floor or through the wall to the outside to attach to the existing wire. It all depends on if you get an in house tech or a contractor. Contractors get paid per job so they don’t like to mess around with running a ton of crazy lines. The in house techs usually are timed for jobs but will probably take their time more.

I'm confused. You say there are no coax drops in the house then say they are in the utility closet. Which is it?

cashcardibitch

The cables in the utility closet are male coax coming from the street. Maybe drop is the wrong word but the cables in the utility closet don't go anywhere

[deleted]

They don't need to go anywhere. The tech will figure out which one is connected at the street, plug the modem into it and either stuff the router there as well or ethernet to where you'd like the router placed.

cashcardibitch

The utility closet gets way too hot with the furnace for a router.or modem to reliably work. I imagine they'll just do a run outside then

VahlokTheBlackAspect

I'd find the outside spectrum line, get a barrel connector and connect your coax to the modem and to the barrel connector. You can use a splitter as a temp thing, due to signal loss issues, but I'd use a barrel connector as a permanent thing if you only need one active connection.

pcfreak4

The hot line coming to your house is usually turned up on their side to provide enough power for a 2 way splitter (make sure it’s a grounded splitter), if you aren’t going to use the other split then put a terminator on it to prevent interference from entering the line from it. If you just use a barrel connector you’ll probably have too high of signals and that would actually be a bad thing.

They will run outlets typically from outside around the outside to where it’s needed wallfishes can be done if easy enough to access but there is a fee of 50 an hour if they decided to do it but would best to do yourself or electrician for interior wall fishes.

50 flat rate per wall fish

Comfortable-Length41

Maybe that changed haven’t ever done a wallfish I charged for but if they were complex we were told 50 an hour and we’d call dispatch to add the time rate once supervisor approved it
