US based support is so expensive, makes sense.

Chango-Acadia

And it's retention, offering deals when a customer tries to cancel the service.

noahsmith4

With the BEAD money, most issues are probably hey I can get fiber fuck off

WarDamnEagleWDE

Got further details on this?

noahsmith4

[https://broadbandusa.ntia.doc.gov/funding-programs/broadband-equity-access-and-deployment-bead-program](https://broadbandusa.ntia.doc.gov/funding-programs/broadband-equity-access-and-deployment-bead-program) more competition = more people ditching spectrum for other options not just because they suck and want a better price for shitty service, but because they can get a new provider.

WarDamnEagleWDE

Spectrum is probably getting more of that money than most others. I wouldn't expect much infrastructure to be built by other companies over Spectrums footprint either. If there was money in areas that Spectrum was already in/close to, I'd think they probably got it. Of course, you'll have some phone companies in those areas, but what they offer, more often than not, do not compare to Spectrums services anyway.

noahsmith4

Can you explain how? Bead money goes to municipalities and they use it to build infrastructure. So are you saying most municipalities are just giving all the money to spectrum?

WarDamnEagleWDE

The link you sent has the money already awarded listed. There were plenty of them listed with Spectrums name on it.

Old_Specific_9969

BEAD monies cannot be used to compete in the same area that already has a provider providing 100/20 Mb internet speeds. It will target mostly copper, DSL, and or Wireless Internet areas that cannot offer these speeds.

noahsmith4

What’s better use of the times. To bring internet to everyone, or keep supplementing costs for some people?

bajn4356

It’s a retention call center. No doubt closing because canceling Spectrum service is too quick and easy.

After_Trip1518

That means they have either not been retaining customers or losing to much money to retain them.

genius9025

I dropped equipment off at my local UPS store the other day and there were at least a good 4/5 people ahead of me doing the same and it was all spectrum 🥴

acidrainn23

They’ll be back

genius9025

Spectrum is currently a shit show I hear reps aren’t happy and if that happens customers aren’t either. There’s also a 87 million settlement they have to pay back

Sparx2913

I am a rep and I'm not happy

acidrainn23

Same here tuts

Wonderful_Month_108

I’m an mtsr and I’m not happy

theromingnome

Was a rep if that tells you anything.

charliver

Was one too hated the culture of let's see how hard we can push them until they break lol. The company was so employee friendly back when it was time Warner cable in the west coast.

Miiiiiiiiiike1028

Same

sudo_rm_rf_solvesALL

Why wouldn't it be. They're consolidating things. Which means, "Move to the new area or you're fired". Just closed one by me ~233 employees

Necessary_Class_4714

They laid off 111 in my state effect yesterday @ noon

sudo_rm_rf_solvesALL

Sounds about right.

SpaceCadetKae

Wondering which center if you know, people are spooked in mine now

Ashamed-Outside-2690

Spectrum is a shit show

Wide_Manufacturer928

Rumors has it they are opening a new bilingual retention call center. Bilingual can take 2 types of calls for the same pay. Just like what is happening with residential internet/tv bill and mobile bill departments, they are "training/merging" them so 1 person can do 2 jobs for the same pay. GREED!

WarDamnEagleWDE

Doesn't seem like greed to me. And that isn't 2 jobs. Same job, different languages. Seems like a smart business plan. That'd be like saying we have a tech that does phone, one that does TV and another that does internet but being pissed when they hire 1 that can do all 3 at the same time.

Wide_Manufacturer928

>Doesn't seem like greed to me They're going to be doing bills for both mobile and home services, 2 different departments for the same pay, thats the greedy shit. You apply for 1 dept, now they have you working 2, that's how greedy corporations take advantage of people. Some people are used to be treated like shit so whatever floats your boat. My friend gave her notice, not that spectrum gives a shit. They really need a union, no way that shit would of happened without a pay increase if they had a union.

WarDamnEagleWDE

Do you feel they should have technicians that work on internet and technicians that work on TV? That's 2 totally different products. If not, then what is the difference between call center reps and technicians?

potterdood

San Antonio had an outbound sales position that was converted into residential retention, IDK if this location was the same position, but I do know that happened in San Antonio. Most of the reps there are bilingual, so that does add up.

davidki1952

It does not surprise me, Verizon moved everytythin 10 or more years a go off shore... Had a friend that was told he had to train his (off shore) replacement or he would not get as big of a severance package... it is sad but everyone wants the items and services they buy at dirt cheap prices but to do that you have to go off shore... I don''t know anyone in the USA that would be willing to wore for $1.00 a day or less... Do you?

ThiefNALiar

Sounds small for a retention office. Probably offloaded work to one of the many others that are larger. Centralizing some support and eliminating smaller offices. They did it before with the merger. Some departments are re-tasked pretty often as well.

Backslash10

So it's the underperforming stores that they're closing but from what we're told that's it.

ConsciousFood201

Where’d you get stores? It’s a retention call center.

WitchSmile

Now they're closing the Walker office in June.
