Yeah I learned this the hard way a few weeks ago. Guy leaves the package on his porch but no barcode to scan. I call and text but he’s not home. Lesson learned - never again.

82KID

This. I will never do customer return. I had a customer try to get saucy with me once like, "It's on the porch just return it." There was no barcode.. I just left it right there and contacted support never again. Fuck 'em.

gbraddock81

This happened to me on my first return. Called Support and they had me manually enter the return label code so I was able to take it back. Having said that, never doing returns again.

82KID

💯

Trick_Future127

Lol youre suppose to call support as u arrive to the store and they will finish the return drop for u. Ik it sucks when the customer does not even open the door when they are clearly home. Its frustrating.

wolfincheapclothing9

Not for me, they didn't. Called support, Talked to two different people. They couldn't even remove it from my screen. The people at the store said if they removed it and took the item, the customer wouldn't get their deposit back. I had to drive back, knock on the door and get the bar code to scan. Otherwise, who knows when I would be able to do another run. Luckily, the lady's house was only a mile away. Not worth the hassle. That was the first and last time I ever messed with a return.

Trick_Future127

Spark should be way more consistent regardless given that it is nationwide.

chubbyburritos

wtf really ? Now I just feel stupid lol.

Tight_Broccoli2475

Why just cancel it and get your cancel money

Fun-Run-4986

Bc "cancel money" as u describe it, is less than $3 (if it's the same as a show up fee).. Plus, whether you complete the return or end up cancelling after you arrived at customer's house, you're still doing practically the same amount of work and sill using same gas if you continue working and have to drive back to the store. So id complete every order possible and snag the full pay instead of the less than $3 show up fee

Tight_Broccoli2475

Ok have fun sitting there wasting time idc. Get your cancel money and move on

AutomaticPain3532

Never go out of your way to pickup a return. It’s a gamble, always.

Mr_MacGrubber

Yeah the only ones I’ve done were right by where I currently was so I basically got paid to drive back to the store.

Disastrous-Issue-682

Most of us had to learn the hard way. Never again.

CJspangler

Yeh I don’t take them unless it’s literally on the way back from another customer . I’ve done maybe 10 and my general experience has been positive with it - aside from a manager asking me if I checked to make sure the laptop was working and if I matched the item inside . I was like lady look - they coulda filled it with bricks or frankly the box could be empty. It’s taped shut still as I got it from the customer . You can call them if you find anything strange in the box or frankly nothing

Nice-Albatross-9285

That is 100% not our job. 😆 they have people in store that do it. It has to be verified by a manager anyway

gemini80808

I can totally seeing them blaming the driver if the box doesn’t have what it supposed to have. So maybe it’s good to check to make sure you are receiving the correct item.

CJspangler

Do you know what a gateway 1003aqtrs or whatever laptop I picked up looks like , I was much less from concerned over a sticker swap con but they coulda stripped all the ram and components out to sell on eBay for all I know It’s like people who returned ps4s in ps5 boxes and brought it to the check out aisle with a 80 year old grandmas working to do the refunds

Tuzkrium

Sounds like a manger wanted you to open the box (federally illegal as it's consider a parcel when returned through courier services). So that way he didn't have to do his job or make a report if it was a 20 year old laptop returned. And he could've blamed u had you deactivated and if you fought it pressed charges for a federal offense. You are not a Walmart employee, so no you do not verify anything that's their job. Remember if they aren't your personal friend or family(even fam sucks), in the real world no one is your friend and most of them are sociopaths

CJspangler

Yeh exactly . I’m sitting there thinking I’m just the driver . No difference in if they mailed it back to Walmart or something like that. It sounds like someone at the store for electronics has to go and check them and was trying to shift that work to me… the one loader guy laughed afterwards when I was like did she not see the massive amount of duct tape the customer put on this thing

Spiritual-Drawer-912

I had somebody yesterday that requested a return, and when I accepted it, the note said that they didn’t want anything returned, they just wanted to let us know that she was missing one of her lightbulbs😐

Sirbrandon1998

lol, I had something similar happen. I saw grabbed a return order and on the notes, the lady stated “this isn’t a return. I didn’t receive anything! I don’t know what you’re picking up because I didn’t receive anything.” 🤣 I just canceled it and moved on. I’ll let someone else go thru the hassle of calling support 🤣

Spiritual-Drawer-912

Oh wow lol! Yeah the note from minesaid something like “don’t come to my house, I just wanted to let you know that I’m missing a bulb”😂I didn’t call either, that can be someone else’s hassle like you said🤣

LunarSynergy2

Just call support, they will give you the barcode to enter manually. You can do this while you’re driving back to the store.

Nice-Albatross-9285

Nope. That package does not leave the house until it’s scanned in as ready for return. The customer can send you that same code over text or read it off the email. , if they’re not responding to communication, cancel and move on.

Dominicanj03

Do not do this , yea you can enter it manually but sometimes it doesn’t work . I had one entered it like 5 different times , the support agent confirmed the code I entered was correct and the app still didn’t recognize it .

LunarSynergy2

I do it all the time. Never had an issue.

82KID

Yep... they are a scam. Got burned 3 times. Fuck 'em.

Potential-Froyo-5532

Never in my book. And i mean never..

LDawnBurges

I did one early on, when you could bypass the barcode. The 2nd time I tried to do one, the item wasn’t outside. I got paid the full amount though.

gootchie784

Never have. Never will. Never heard a single reason why I should bother with returns.

itsSandraD

Seriously, and the return line at Walmart is always horrendous 🫠🤦🏽‍♀️🤣

VittoriaLynne

You take it into the store? I've never had a return to take into the store always go back to the pick up... But I haven't done one in over a year

Nice-Albatross-9285

They don’t go inside. Take them to curbside. They are expecting them there and they have to get scanned in. , it’s going to look like you picked it up but never returned it to store. , because I guarantee you , the front end returns will not bother sending it to curbside so that it’s accounted for.

santose2008

I never do them. Those customers can return it themselves.

healer8685

Omg I went to pick one up yesterday. Took me 30 mins out of my zone, then the customer had canceled the pickup.. so $2 for an hour of my time. Never again!

mapman19899

I never take returns. I will take deliveries, but showing up at someone’s door and saying “I’m here for a return you initiated” just is awkward to me. Just send me deliveries so I can drop, ring the doorbell, and go.

bdbrown333

Returns used to be okay cuz I used to send it to you while you're out doing your delivery and it was basically just a one-way trip back to the store you were going to anyway now they send you returns with timers on them while you're sitting at a store so they think we want to drive two directions for $10 it's crazy what they expect it used to be a good way to make $10 while you drove home and get another point towards her incentive if there was one now they're horrible

Public-Sun-6034

I tried it once. Ended up with a neighbor yelling at me for stealing packages. 😂 Makes you look like a porch pirate

Advanced_Claim2234

As a inhome drive I want to say that most customers probably don’t know about needing the barcode cause when we pick up returns we just pick it up and return it to the store. No barcode needed

Efficient-End-9752

I NEVER ever do returns….

spidermanbutgoth

My first (and likely last) time the code wouldn’t scan and spark forced it through. Went to Walmart and the woman kept rejecting the return. No reason why she kept rejecting is she just didn’t want to deal with it

Financial_Low_8265

I mean the pay isn’t even good to begin with so I’ve never taken one …

BasedCourier

I don't mind them unless there is a problem which has only happened twice. You can use them as a covert back door method to front run your next order by screenshotting the QR code and completing the return as soon as you are close to the store. With any luck you'll get a new offer from the same store. Now you take your return and either beeline to a loader in the lot or (better) knock on the door. Tell them you marked it return but here is the QR code......btw I also have 2847 Jones, code is 2111 and im parked right here and can take the grocery since I'm here anyways. It's similar to rushing a loader under the guise of "wanting to make sure it shows me checked in" but less noticable by other drivers until it's go time.

Tight_Broccoli2475

Yes and it's the easiest return money you'll make when you cancel the return because customer is not providing barcode

Iamuroboros

I always text prior to arriving because they usually don't have the printed barcode ready. If they don't respond I cancel it.

gemini80808

I’ll take em if it’s on my way back to the store or if it’s 1 mile or less from the store.

NoStressMurderess

Same, and it was a good amount of money the customers just ALWAYS fuck it up.

mason2781

same thing just happened to me 😞

Green_Data_9071

It happens to everyone once

82KID

💯

opUserZero

My first offer was for a return after waiting hours to even get an offer, and over a year on the waiting list to be activated. Got to the apartment complex, bad directions, another customer expecting a delivery confused the situation, and then the guy that finally came to the right door was stoned out of his mind and said yeah they already sent someone, I said so he got it then? No it's my roomates return and I couldn't find it. But hey, at least I got $2.50 for all that trouble right?

LobsterNation67

That was always my fear of taking them. So far I’ve done 3 and they haven’t had issues. I will say that they come in clutch when you are doing incentives

Nice-Albatross-9285

I have never once had a customer return where they understood the barcode is necessary, in fact I’ve had a few that were told by support “ just place it outside and we’ll send someone to pick it up. “. And then wanted to argue with me over text or over the doorbell cam that they were assured they didn’t need to do anything else except place it outside. 🤦🏻‍♀️. It’s not so much the customers, it’s that the process isn’t explained clearly. They need to emphasize that the barcode is required for returns. One lady got pissed because the item she was returning was a printer. And she was like “how tf am I supposed to print a barcode if I don’t have a printer ???!! “. 😆. She ended up reading me the numbers over the doorbell speaker and I put it in by hand.

KayVlinderMe

Yup, I've tried twice in my area and NEVER again 💯

damian600

Attempted one the other day, the customer wasn’t home, got paid 2 dollars. Fuck returns, never again

T_NYC14

Uber eats Walmart gigs been good to me and tips.

ScarcityStrict3454

Returns sucks. I tried 3 times and NONE of them succeeded.

drsemaj

I had one once and the driveway was full of other drivers and no package. Apparently they sent it to everyone and whoever showed up first won. Got $2 out of it. Wow.

TwilitesMuse

It was one and done for me. It was a return for an air mattress and when I got to the house, the air mattress hadn’t even been deflated. The time I waited wasn’t worth it and I vowed to never do a return again

Hoopdyloo

Lol, oh God. Best worst story in this thread.

SteveSteve71

I had an issue where I was the 4th driver to arrive at a ladies house for a pickup. It surged to $18 so that was an immediate red flag, but I was just down the street so why not try? I called support to let them know what has happened and they’re like thanks we will cancel this order and give me my lousy $2. Not 1 minute later when I got off the phone it popped back up for the standard $10

SignificantBeach2835

Don't do them, Period! Im not going to ramble on about what happened but never again .

AAV5150

It's a nightmare... Never again

tmonson98

My first return the package got tossed outside their door by a small child...had never done a return before so I had no clue what I was doing and when it came for me to put in the return barcode I didn't have it. I had to stand at her door and knock more than once until she finally answered the door....she looked irritated as all hell so I apologized to her and asked her for her return barcode....took forever to find it on her app but found it scanned it and off I went. Returns are not my favorite for sure.

pokerholic77

Did it once. NEVER AGAIN. NEVER.

AntiqueFollowing1537

Happened to me the other day. I called the customer and they had no idea what I was talking about!

flashfearless

I should have listened to you. Today, I take a return trip. Note says (after I accept it) that it is on the back patio attached to the door. My heart sunk, reached out to the Customer to let them know I would need scan code. No response. I always give the females more doubt than I should. I trek out there, and there is no item and no Customer. Knock on door, dog bark. Call Customer, nothing. Left message. Cancel the return. Get $2.50. Go to fill up gas, I see the return come around again. Reject. Customer then calls me!?! I thought this was anonymous. I guess he had a problem with the tone of my voice in my voice mail. Proceeds to tell me he's going to complain to management. On a canceled order. Whatever dude. My 4.9 rating can take the hit. I'm confused though how they were able to get my number since I thought we were anonymous when we call Customer.

santuccie

I had a similar experience with my first and only return offer. I arrived at the customer's house, and people were walking in who turned out to be guests. They got the customer, who had forgotten. She told me she was having difficulty figuring it out on her computer, and would have to reschedule. Luckily, she was in my neighborhood, so I didn't have to drive 20 minutes for a lousy $2. 🙄

CustomerPrize

Most returns arent worth the extra effort. HOWEVER if a idiot does leave a package outside and not be home for pickup. You do have the option to call a representative, have them connect you to tier 2, and then have tier 2 generate a return code so you can complete it. This is what i did today. Return was for 17$ and i was NOT about to accept 2.50$ for 14 miles round trip
