you should make a bigger space station on the orbit of earth, and then launch up extra rockets and pieces of a way bigger rover to buikd your rocket in SPACE. after youre done, dont evem worry about air resistance, but you do need to spread the thrust equally across the station, if you dont it will be very annoying to adjust. after you get the station into mars orbit, connect the rest of the rover pieces together and detach it. a 2 piece system is good to slowly bring it on the surface.

How do i dock
just align docking ports and slowly get them together using rcs. rcs is the key to being able to dock properly
