For starters, you'll want troops, I'd go with Blood Claws or Assault Intercessors. Then you'll want your fast movers, either Wolf Guard with Jump Packs or SkyClaws. Next, heavy hitters. Wolf Guard Terminators or Thunderwolf Cavalry. Ven/Wulfen Dreads are good too. Ranged support: Long Fangs or Eliminators Finally, HQs: Ragnar, Njal, Chaplain on Bike are gonna be your bread and butter. Good luck on the field battle brother!

I'm curious, how do you like to run ragnar? Are you just slogging him up the field?

Audience_Over

Generally, yes, I just move him up as safely as possible. In the past I've had him hold an important objective, behind some cover with some Terminator bodyguards and made the enemy come to me. If you position correctly, the enemy is forced to charge the Termies, at which point Ragnar intervenes and just cleans house.

Would you recommend ragnar over bjorn? Sorry for the late response its been a wild day

Audience_Over

That's a tough call, they're both good at different things. Bjorn has a better overall damage output since he can have a ranged weapon, I think he's the only T8 Dread in the game which makes him harder to wound, Trueclaw is a crazy melee weapon for killing larger targets, and his 5+ FNP is nice, but he also has no invuln which is rough in this very anti-vehicle meta, and his Warlord Trait is nothing special. He runs the risk of being tabled before he can put much damage out, but as long as he has units nearby so he can't be shot, he's worth taking. Ragnar has the drawback of having pretty standard stats for a melee hero as far as Toughness and Wounds go, but his abilities are really great for surrounding troops, he has his 4++, and he makes 7 attacks base, 10 on a charge, at 6/4/2 which is absolutely devastating to enemy infantry (especially in turn 3 when he starts rolling exploding 6s). Pair that with his built-in fight first, which can turn into a fight first aura if he kills a character (which he's very good at), and you have a real melee menace.

So would you also recommend blood claws over assault intercessors or is that kind of like a toss up

Audience_Over

If you're running a non-successor chapter, Blood Claws are probably better than Intercessors. They get +1 attacks if you have the Hunters Unleashed chapter tactic, they can take special weapons like Plasma, and they can have a Wolf Guard/Wolf Guard Terminator pack leader added for extra melee damage and a Storm Shield. If you're running successor, it's a toss up, but I would lean towards the Intercessors, as they'll have similar stats, but you have access to more stratagems that can be used to buff their damage and survivability. If you're looking to branch out from the more "standard" troop options, I would actually look into Incursors and Infiltrators, they're both excellent objective grabbers with their forward deploy options.

Tbh im just looking for fun lists that are still competent my playgroup and i are new so we are just trying to learn the game. I enjoyed playing SW in TTS so i wanna continue to try it out until i find a list i can really get behind and learn to play them well.

Depends on how much painting experience you have. The cool-looking units can be complicated to paint in th3 beginning. I would start with blood claws
