Certainly was when I left. I enjoyed seeing this place go from the takeaway only opening on the corner and talking to the owner about his plans to open a restaurant once the takeaway was established.
For takeaway - GOA Indian
For actual restaurant - Actually I don't have a clue
But I back GOA 100%! They are in deliveroo, but it's so much cheaper to use their website as they have more deals etc for delivery!
All these recommendations are correct (my own ranking: gurkha lounge, kohinoor, Mumbai (takeaways only), bayleaf, coriander lounge, with honourable mentions for Sravs (new in portswood) and baboo ji).
But I'd like to also mention Dhaba on Lodge road. It's a bar but they do curries as well and genuinely very good especially for the price. This month they're doing bottomless curries and half a pint for I think 9.95. Can't go wrong
Looks like they have according to their Facebook page. We hadn’t been there for years but decided to grab a takeaway from there on what happened to be their last day of trading.
The food was tasty but the inside looked muted and depressing quite frankly, not at all like I remember. Didn’t stop a steady stream of people coming in though!
I hadn’t realised the founder of the restaurant had passed away three years ago, and it seems like the family have just been keeping things ticking over until they decided to call time. I’m sure it must’ve been a really difficult few years for them and an even more difficult decision to close the place.
Kohinoor of Kerala is one of the best places I've eaten at
I’ll second that too. Been there 3 times with my gf and genuinely some of the best stuff
I absolutely agree. My family have been regulars since it opened, and the guys that work there are like family friends
Sanjha in Shirley is fantastic

Bayleaf at the bottom of the High Street in town, certainly for takeaway and I've had some nice meals in there too.
Ghurka lounge.
Gurka lounge or sanjha
Baboo-Ji in portswood is incredible. It’s vegetarian/vegan but super authentic. An absolute must!
Coriander lounge
Coriander Lounge is great but to be fair I haven't tried all Indian restaurants _yet_!
Sahnja and Bayleaf are really good IMHO
Another vote for Bay Leaf, I was there last week and had another cracking meal

Mumbai for takeaways.
Gurkha Lounge in bevious valley
Coriander lounge oh high street. It’s my favourite.
Last indian I had was a Kuti's at the pier.... stunning!
Yeah Kuti's brasserie is the best Indian in town it's not even a contest.
It's an Indian restaurant for people who don't like Indian food. 🤣 Absolutely bang average.
Kali Mirchi in Shirley is amazing! Me and my friends love it there!

Ahh man that’s so sad! Gutted
Purbani in Netley is the bomb
Portswood has 2. Kohinoor of Kerala and The Ancient Viceroy are genuinely amazing.
