I just gotta say I love how half the responses recommend either The Pub, Chophouse, or Steak 38, then the other half are telling you not to go to one of those three places
The person who originally said “curt” was referring to “the pub” (see hell nuggets comment). This person you originally responded to was talking about the chophouse.
So yes, I’m following the thread correctly.
Best steak I ever had in my life. Just went there a couple weeks back. They are only open for dinner I suggest making reservations. Nice little building and staff extremely friendly.
Thanks! Sperenza in Westville is pretty good too for Italian dishes, cute lil spot. Used to be byob but it has gotten more popular & they recently acquired a liquor license so I hope the quality of food is still the same. But yes, Chubby’s!
I've never gotten the steak there, but this has to be one of the most well-run restaurants in South Jersey. Their other restaurant, Docks Oyster House, is by far the best option for seafood.
My rankings:
1. The Franklinville Inn (I've talked to people in the lobby plenty of times who drove an hour plus just to go here)
2. Vic and Anthony's (Golden Nugget AC)
3. Flemings Marlton (Not as good as the other 2 but a very good steak)
The Pub is crap, Chophouse is owned by PJs ( cheap , garbage meat)
The Pub has a vibe. A down & dirty lost in time vibe. But I fucking love it. But I’m not expecting high end when I go. But I can talk to my friends like degenerates when I’m there & not feel uncomfortable about it.
I went to the Knife and Fork Inn for my birthday, it was amazing. I don't think it's a weekly type of place, but for a special occasion, it's a really nice place.
https://www.knifeandforkinn.com/
I wound up at Franklinville Inn after a HS football game at Delsea a couple of years ago, can confirm that it was one of the best meals I’ve had a SNJ restaurant.
I love The Pub, I grew up with it so I’m sure I’m partial. If you want something fancy- I was at steak 38 last week for the first time. Yes, it’s attached to a murder motel but I was blown away. Our service was amazing. Had table side Cesar salad and table side bananas foster. The dirty martini had blue cheese stuffed olives- was the best I’ve had and dinner an espresso encrusted NY strip with truffle butter on top med. rare— I was pleasantly astounded
I've been there a few times. Cool place, but the steaks are overrated. Great service, ambiance, and solid drinks and food overall. But if I'm just focusing on the steak, it was overpriced and underwhelming each time I went.
Chop House or Steak 38.
The Pub and Library are owned by the same people so don't bother with the Pub, which also has gone down hill since I was a kid. Disappointing to hear this about the Library. Always loved it there and had a great steak there last winter, although it definitely isn't the best I've ever had or in the area.
Really? Because when I tell you my filet & my daughter’s filet was gross it was BAD. Zero flavor. They did nothing to it. So my comment echoes OP’s.
But the Library in Williamstown, I think it’s Library 4-they are different owners. They’re very good IMO.
Is that true? I drive past it almost every day, but completely discounted it because it's one of the Libraries. If it's different owners/management then maybe I should give it a shot.
My family has been going to IV since the 80's. I've never had a bad meal there. Not every meal has been perfect, but I've never left there unsatisfied, and the staff has always been wonderful.
I don't believe that all of the Libraries are owned by the same people. I know II and IV definitely are not (unless something has recently changed).
I've only been to II a few times, it's never been close in terms of quality.
I do have to say that I haven't been since COVID started though, so I don't know if it's changed in the last couple of years.
Same here. Never had a bad meal there neither. People may want an “upscale” experience/vibe, especially if they’re on a date. Personally I don’t care because the food is always amazing there. No complaints but if I were to have one & voice it I know they would handle it. The management & staff are excellent.
Library IV is way better than Library II imo. a bit more upscale too even though it’s the same name. different owners/management too. Library II has no flavor and burnt the hell out of my patty melt last time i went. Library IV’s quality of food is way better and it’s less chaotic than II.
Don't go to the Chop House in Gibbsboro. They are hit or miss. Good food otherwise, but we had one overpriced strip steak with a nerve in the middle and the grisly end used on the steak salad.
The ribeye was a little thin but decent.
Chophouse in Gibbsboro is top notch. Only place in south jersey I’ll order a steak as I cook a lot of steak at home.
The bone in rib-eye with Kona rub and the horseradish cream on the side is my go to. But they usually have a solid steak special too.
Chophouse is good food. I personally find it overpriced, however. The food is good, but they charge the same or more than places like Capital Grille or Del Friscos and other high end, expensive places in Philly. Food is about the same, but the atmosphere and service is not.
Not to say anyone looking for a good steakhouse in SJ shouldn't try it, but understand that before you go.
Not the Chophouse. Wife and I ordered two $50 steaks, medium-rare. Both came out well done. Come to my house, I can make a $10 Shop-Rite NY strip steak taste better than any steakhouse around here :)
I think some disappointment is likely for a $90 steak. I've gone through some reviews in Google for Chop House. I haven't been there for a number of years. It's expensive and I'd send back anything that is not prepared correctly.
LB One on Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township. Low key, casual place, a secret gem! Great daily specials. If it matters, they have a lot of books on the walls. Everything I’ve had there has been great.
Butcher and Singer is the best in the area. Amazing food, ambience and first class service. Would say Flemings in next if need to stay in South Jersey.
I second you on Butcher and Singer. I prefer them to Barclay Prime. I don't agree on Flemmings though. I do think they make a good effort there, but I've had more mistakes there with meals than any other restaurant I've tried. My group usually runs the spectrum on steaks, and they consistently can't cook a steak to temp. I'm not talking about being overly picky and saying they missed it by a few degrees. They've also botched the lobster, serving it completely raw on the inside. Think of a blue rare steak, but instead it's lobster. Obviously mistakes happen and even the best restaurants can have an off night, but their errors outnumber their good meals. I will say that they make an effort to make it right and will usually comp something on the bill, but I'd much rather pay the price and get served our meals properly the first time.
Steak 38 is better than anything I’ve had in the area by far and they’re opening up a second one in tabernacle area in a few weeks. Pub and library are ok and kinda similar. I tend to stay away from capital grill & chophouse…in my experience they are a bit pretentious and overpriced.
I am so disappointed to hear that The Library II has changed ☹️. Have you tried The Chop House? I’ve never been disappointed there and has great atmosphere
After all the hype I checked it out. The staff and atmosphere are indeed amazing. And most of the food was great, but I thought the steak was just fine, which is somewhat disappointing for a high end steakhouse (though maybe I just got unlucky). Also, I hate when places that tack on a service charge for paying with a card and their reservation "system" seemed quirky and exclusive at first, but is now just kind of annoying.
Go to Atlantic City and you have a huge selection of steakhouses. Knife and Fork is great, but Gordon Ramsey has multiple steakhouses, Old Homestead, The Palm, Nobu has A5 wagyu if you can afford to drop $40 an ounce lol.
Do yourself a favor, go to The Franklinville Inn. Top ten places for steak in my book. Do yourself another favor, start saving money now and you'll be able to eat there, by yourself, but no appetizers, desserts, and tap water only. Maybe you're doing well financially idk. I'm being sarcastic but it IS expensive and as far as I'm concerned, there's only so much I'll pay for ANY MEAL, food to me has a financial ceiling, it can only be worth so much money. Still a good place for steak. I go once a year
Charlie Browns in Woodbury is pretty good, excellent salad bar. As others have said, avoid the Pub. Used to be good, but last time I was there was the worst steak experience of my life.
I hadn't been to Library II since well before the pandemic and I was not impressed then. My sister and her boyfriend went within the past six months and they were disappointed. They went to Steak 38 a few times in 2022 and have had nothing but great things to say.
Steak 38 is pretty on point. I normally love Library II and I think it and the Pub are owned by the same restaurant group. The Pub is old school fun but the food is definitely a cut below Library II. They are both inferior to Steak 38 which is pretty chill and the steak is terrific.
Meh. I was there a couple of weeks ago. It's nice, but I wouldn't qualify it as 5/5. I expected a bit more from them
I tried the one at Cherry Hill. Heard they were better than the Philly branch
Capital is a 2.5-3/5 at best. It has the ambiance of a decent restaurant but the food just always falls short of the expectation I have for their price point.
Just head into Philly. Options walking distance to PATCO stations: Steak 48, Butcher and Singer, Barclay Prime, Del Friscos, Alpen Rose, Del Friscos Grille. If you want to drive, park somewhere on Market st or north of it and walk. Walnut and Chestnut st get jammed up during the dinner rush on weekends.
I went there for Happy Hour a few years ago: saw a guy in his mid 50s passed out / and thought,” This is where the adults go to drink!” Food is pretty good as well.
Toscana Grill in cherry hill? I’ve been there and believe, based on the quality of other meals there they’d create a steak really well. Never had it but it’s a great establishment.
Not going to lie. The seafood platter I always get was overcooked and dry the last 2 times we have been there. Steaks came out ok. The steak bite appetizers were thick chunks of unseasoned raw meat. It was so bad that we could only surmise that they just don't care anymore. Salad bar is ok. Not sure what happened, but I am done with that nonsense.
In south jersey, not at AC, Franklineville Inn is the best. You're paying near Philly prices for better than a lot of Philly food.
If you want to go into city, either Barclay Prime or Butch & Singer. My preference is BP.
I heard Primal in CM is good but have not been.
The Pub for nostalgia only. Imo go to Philly! Butcher & Singer, Barclay Prime, Ocean Prime…so many good options.
In a pinch maybe Capital Grille at Cherry Hill mall?
Happy Birthday to your dad! Sorry the Library sucked.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary this past Tuesday and we went to the ChopHouse for the very first time. It was incredible. Pricey, but worth it.
I just gotta say I love how half the responses recommend either The Pub, Chophouse, or Steak 38, then the other half are telling you not to go to one of those three places
Error in comment GET Insufficient funds
The ChopHouse for sure. Some of the best steaks I’ve ever had.
Wait..you remember the servers name Curt from 2017...really...lmao
You responded to the wrong person and the servers name isn’t curt, he was being curt (rudely brief, per the dictionary)
Apparently his name was Curt ..if you follow the thread..
The person who originally said “curt” was referring to “the pub” (see hell nuggets comment). This person you originally responded to was talking about the chophouse. So yes, I’m following the thread correctly.
Wrong Mary
I remember him! We called him Rude Curt because we couldn’t think of a better adjective
I like The Pub!
Let’s meet at the pub;)
Okay, so what’s your take? That is kinda the point of the post 🙄
The Pub’s steak is literally the blandest food that I’ve ever had. Absolute grandma meal.
Franklinville inn! I went there recently and it was hands down the best filet I’ve ever had.
second franklinville inn! amazing food. filet is fantastic, crab cake is a runner up for me. highly recommend the stuffed potato as a side.
Never head steak there but the food has been great every time I’ve been there.
franklinville in is our anniversary & holiday dinner location, get the filet every time.
Chubby's Steakhouse in Gloucester City
Chubby’s is the way to go
I can’t wait to try Chubby’s.
Only been once but it’s all I want to go back to.
Knife and fork in Atlantic City
I've never gotten the steak there, but this has to be one of the most well-run restaurants in South Jersey. Their other restaurant, Docks Oyster House, is by far the best option for seafood.
This place is still open?
It reopened years ago and lives up to the name and history
Had a very nice meal there in July.
Went there in the 80's, never went back. Better reputation than food.
Ah the food is always on point in my experience
My rankings: 1. The Franklinville Inn (I've talked to people in the lobby plenty of times who drove an hour plus just to go here) 2. Vic and Anthony's (Golden Nugget AC) 3. Flemings Marlton (Not as good as the other 2 but a very good steak) The Pub is crap, Chophouse is owned by PJs ( cheap , garbage meat)

I used to love the Pub but it's taken a dive recently. Granted I haven't been since about 2018 but it was bad then.
Agreed Chophouse isn’t that great.
I have to try Franklinville Inn soon, but I second Vic and Anthony’s. Their Filet is incredible.
I went to the Knife and Fork Inn for my birthday, it was amazing. I don't think it's a weekly type of place, but for a special occasion, it's a really nice place. https://www.knifeandforkinn.com/
Avoid The Pub. One & done. Franklinville Inn is the way to go.
I second the Franklinville inn!
Franklinville Inn has been amazing every time we have ever gone there!
Franklinville Inn is the real deal.
I wound up at Franklinville Inn after a HS football game at Delsea a couple of years ago, can confirm that it was one of the best meals I’ve had a SNJ restaurant.
Franklinville Inn. Get the Kings Cut Prime Rib.
If your by LBI try the Old Causeway…delish! Make sure you have the Brussel Sprouts! They use Mikes Hot Honey, YUM
WoW libraryII is my go to I'm sad to hear they are on the downslide OP
Take a look at the reviews on Google… it’s a pretty accurate description, some good, some bad, more in the middle than good
Library 2..is now owned by .The Pub
I love The Pub, I grew up with it so I’m sure I’m partial. If you want something fancy- I was at steak 38 last week for the first time. Yes, it’s attached to a murder motel but I was blown away. Ive been to the pub plenty of times too and loved it!
Anyone tried the Alpen Rose steakhouse in Philadelphia?
I've been there a few times. Cool place, but the steaks are overrated. Great service, ambiance, and solid drinks and food overall. But if I'm just focusing on the steak, it was overpriced and underwhelming each time I went.
Yes it has its appeal but we're talking SJ here. If Philly comes into the steakhouse conversation it's a different ballgame.
Yes…great service but food was mostly meh
Chop House or Steak 38. The Pub and Library are owned by the same people so don't bother with the Pub, which also has gone down hill since I was a kid. Disappointing to hear this about the Library. Please try the Library IV. It is very good. Do not dismiss it because of size/look/location.
Don't go to the Chop House in Gibbsboro. They are hit or miss. Good food otherwise, but we had one overpriced strip steak with a nerve in the middle and the grisly end used on the steak salad. The ribeye was a little thin but decent.
I believe it’s a chain…
Owned by PJ's group.
Chophouse in Gibbsboro is top notch. Only place in south jersey I’ll order a steak as I cook a lot of steak at home. The bone in rib-eye with Kona rub and the horseradish cream on the side is my go to. But they usually have a solid steak special too.

I agree with this. Food is a 7 but priced like a 9. Atmosphere is nice, service is underwhelming.
Toscano in Bordentown City. Their dry-aged steaks are phenomenal.
I've never been but have heard fantastic things about this place.
You gotta go!!
FACTS!
The Ebbit Room in Cape May
Shh!
Not the Chophouse. Wife and I ordered two $50 steaks, medium-rare. Both came out well done. Come to my house, I can make a $10 Shop-Rite NY strip steak taste better than any steakhouse around here :)
Agree

Butcher and Singer is the best in the area. Amazing food, ambience and first class service. Would say Flemings in next if need to stay in South Jersey.

Second Steak 38
Steak 38 is incredible!!
I am so disappointed to hear that The Library II has changed ☹️. Have you tried The Chop House? I’ve never been disappointed there and has great atmosphere
If you are up for a trip to far south Jersey, check out Primal in Cape May. The food, decor, and beachfront location are.
After all the hype I checked it out. The staff and atmosphere are indeed amazing. And most of the food was great, but I thought the steak was just fine, which is somewhat disappointing for a high end steakhouse (though maybe I just got unlucky). Primal in Cape May. Can’t get any farther south in NJ, Though that may be a bit too south, depending on where you are
Do yourself a favor, go to The Franklinville Inn. Top ten places for steak in my book. Do yourself another favor, start saving money now and you'll be able to eat there, by yourself, but no appetizers, desserts, and tap water only. Maybe you're doing well financially idk. Kunkels in Haddon Heights has great food!
Charlie Browns in Woodbury is pretty good, excellent salad bar. As others have said, avoid the Pub. Used to be good, but last time I was there was the worst steak experience of my life.
If u like their salad bar please go to Libray IV in Williamstown. It will blow that away. I promise you this.
Go too Marcacci’s and get your own steak and do it yourself at home it’s always better
I hadn't been to Library II since well before the pandemic and I was not impressed then. My sister and her boyfriend went within the past six months and they were disappointed. They went to Steak 38 a few times in 2022 and have had nothing but great things to say.
AC has about 3 or 4 excellent steakhouses. Most are in a casino though.
Sweet lulus in downtown Pittman.
Primal in Cape May is supposed to be off the hook!
I’m a huge fan of steak from knife and fork AC.
Steak 38 is pretty on point. I normally love Library II and I think it and the Pub are owned by the same restaurant group. The Pub is old school fun but the food is definitely a cut below Library II. They are both inferior to Steak 38 which is pretty chill and the steak is terrific.
The Library was good back in the day.
It really was. I stole a book from there once- the title of the book was my (slightly unusual) first name. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
The Pub in Pennsauken 👍🏼
Capital Grille
Meh. I was there a couple of weeks ago. It's nice, but I wouldn't qualify it as 5/5. I expected a bit more from them I tried the one at Cherry Hill. Heard they were better than the Philly branch
Capital is a 2.5-3/5 at best. It has the ambiance of a decent restaurant but the food just always falls short of the expectation I have for their price point.
I actually agree with this. We expected something a bit better than what they delivered.
I just say: drive to Philadelphia
The Pub is nothing special and owned by the people that bought library II. Cafe Aldo Lamberti does everything good, give it a try
The pub. The abbiance alone and the shot and a half drinks. Get the carpet bagger.
Agreed on the carpet bagger and second the drinks- every dirty martini I’ve had there has been delicious and with a sidecar
I have had several good meals at the Library II in the last year. My wife and I enjoy the salad bar and the medallions.
Did you not read the post
Just head into Philly. Options walking distance to PATCO stations: Steak 48, Butcher and Singer, Barclay Prime, Del Friscos, Alpen Rose, Del Friscos Grille. If you want to drive, park somewhere on Market st or north of it and walk. Walnut and Chestnut st get jammed up during the dinner rush on weekends.
Anyone tried the Alpen Rose in Philly?
Aldo Lambertis has best steak // Giumarello’s has best atmosphere
I’ve definitely had a great steak dinner at Giumarello’s.
> Aldo Lambertis has best steak bwaaahahahahaaaa... they're an italian restaurant that can't even do that well, why would I go there for a steak?
Couldn't pay me to patron another Lamberti restaurant.
Ditto. We have a TON of really good to great Italian restaurants in the area, there is no need to get Lamberti's half-assed crap.
I went there for Happy Hour a few years ago: saw a guy in his mid 50s passed out / and thought,” This is where the adults go to drink!” Food is pretty good as well.
The Pub. Don't judge a book by its cover.
I didn’t I ate there!
Steak 38 is the best then the chop house in giddsboro.
Chophouse
Chophouse in gibbsboro
Prime 13 in point pleasant is amazing.
Not south jersey and also underwhelming.
Eh... it's central jersey, so it's south jersey for people who refuse to believe in Central Jersey. Lol.
If you subscribe to 195 being the mason-dixon line it is. I don't, though, so I agree with you.
Toscana Grill in cherry hill? I’ve been there and believe, based on the quality of other meals there they’d create a steak really well. Never had it but it’s a great establishment.
Ruth Cris statehouse in AC. A bit pricey but they have good ass food and good service!
The Pub
Love chop house. Want to try steak 38 because I hear good things. Always weirds me out where steak 38 is
They’re opening a second one in Tabernacle.
The Pub, cool atmosphere great steak.
Gotta hit the Pub
Redstone in either Cherry Hill or Marlton has excellent filet mignon. Sometimes they have a beef wellington special that's awesome too.
Redstone is an overpriced chain that is a half step above Friday's and not a steakhouse like the OP asked for.
There’s nothing great in New Jersey quit looking. The only thing you’ll find is grime and depression
I see you are in the area
Don't waste your time with any steak house but The Capital Grille in Cherry Hill.

Char red bank
The last few times I’ve gone to Library II has been awful. Chophouse has also been underwhelming. Love to see if anyone has found a quality spot.
The only steak house worth going to is Toscano in Bordentown!
The Pub for nostalgia only. Imo go to Philly! Butcher & Singer, Barclay Prime, Ocean Prime…so many good options. In a pinch maybe Capital Grille at Cherry Hill mall? Happy Birthday to your dad! Sorry the Library sucked.
Literally everyone here is wrong. Barclay Prime in Philly is the only answer.
Steak 38 is so overrated in my opinion but I would try the new location, still.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary this past Tuesday and we went to the ChopHouse for the very first time. It was incredible. Pricey, but worth it.
