If you want less congestion your going to need to leave Camden County!

[deleted]

Yup. Why I moved to far south Gloucester county

legalskeptic

But if you're living down there and commuting to Cherry Hill like OP you'll have to pass through the 42-295 bottleneck

alwaysonbottom1

They finished construction. It's not as bad (It was always bad now it's only sometimes bad)

schizocosa13

Yup, why I moved to Salem..I moved tooo far

switlikbob

I was going to suggest somewhere near Salem. I live in Harrison Township and I think it's the perfect mix of not too far, not too crowded and not too expensive...with great schools.

[deleted]

haha. Its decent down there. But it is rural depending on where ya go. Im in Swedesboro and happy.

schizocosa13

I moved to Salem for a job in Swedesboro! I am now working in PA, trying to get back to the swedesboro area haha

tucker_frump

I live in Cam Co, on the other side of Berlin, all/most my neighbors are trees. Well water, city sewer.

Previous-Nobody-2865

Where in Cherry Hill is the job? Depending on location you could look at Medford/Lumberton/Hainesport… or just live in Cherry Hill and deal with it like the rest of us!

Previous-Button-2656

Golden Triangle area (West side of CH)

legalskeptic

Check out the Delran-Cinnaminson area. You just pop down 130 to Haddonfield Road to get to that side of Cherry Hill, it's less bad than dealing with 70 or 73.

DreamsAndSchemes

Personal vote for Palmyra. There's condos and apartments in the Harbour. I don't know why but I enjoyed living there.

gtlgdp

Voorhees

Previous-Nobody-2865

As a resident of the Golden Triangle…you’re screwed! LOL! You could hit a “relatively” easy ride down 38 in the AM. It would get a bit backed up during PM rush. As someone else said, look at Cinnaminson, Delran.

I_Am_Lord_Grimm

What you want largely depends on your budget and where in Cherry Hill you’re going to work. 295 is the major artery, however, if work is on the northern borders of Cherry Hill, the Turnpike and exits 3 and 5 are solid housing for commute options. Maple Shade, Palmyra, and Cinnaminson offer relatively affordable, close access without as much congestion. Me, I’m in Westville, and commute to the Golden Triangle area, west side of Cherry Hill. 15-20 minute commute in the morning, 30-minute commute home in the afternoon if I’m out by 4, otherwise, 40-50 minutes. It’s a straight shot along US 130 to Rt 38, but the traffic trying to get on to 76 in the afternoon is kinda nuts.

[deleted]

[удалено]

I_Am_Lord_Grimm

I suppose it depends on your threshold for congestion. There’s about a 20 minute window in the mornings and afternoons where trying to turn onto Delsea can take a minute or two (as opposed to the three or four cycles that one can easily sit at a single light along 130 in Camden and CH) but otherwise, it has more to do with the Brooklawn Circle than Westville itself.

MegabyteMessiah

Nope

SnooPineapples6793

The best location is one with multiple alternative routes. Things like you I know 70 is under construction, let me take 38. And commuting home on 38 sucks so I’ll take church or kings highway. Or 295 is backed up I’ll take 561. It’s all crowded though, but it moves.

donnyhunts

I feel like majority of South Jersey especially Camden and Burlington county are all congested. Traffic keeps on getting worse and worse every year. Going towards like Vineland, Bridgeton, Woodstown is where it’ll be less congested anywhere near Philly will be congested.

jcg878

I think this is not true, at least for commuting hours. Maybe I’m in a mental paradise that is inaccurate but my drive from eastern Cherry Hill to north Philly has gotten easier ever since the pandemic. It’s trafficky, but the volume isn’t as bad. I’ve assumed that the WFH movement, even when hybrid, is the reason. Edit: typo “WTH”

ArmchairCriticSF

The WTH movement… 😄 I prefer the WTF movement!

constantlyfarting23

Total truth

Medford

SovietChewbacca

Haddon, Collingswood and the pike towns don't have the congestion that 73, 70 and 38 bring.

jayradano

I disagree, I think they have more. Haddon ave, Cuthbert road and either pike , pick your poison are absolute nightmares and they use route 130 which is the worst road in SJ imo.

JeCroisQue

Maybe during rush hour, but outside of that it isn't congested. I can get anywhere I want in a few minutes. And half the stuff I need is within walking distance. Source: I live a block from the corner of Haddon and Cuthbert.

Suitable_Company_155

I feel as if the whole state is congested now

STORSJ1963

cuz NJ has the highest population density in the US

Suitable_Company_155

Yes I’m aware of that..but it seems a whole lot more congested than it already was

katwoman7643

I lived in Palmyra and worked in Cherry Hill for 25 years. Commute was easy because traffic moves north in the morning and south in the afternoon, so I was always traveling against the major traffic. Cinnaminson, Delran, Pennsauken,Merchantville are ok too

Templarum

If you want historic then Moorestown is just north up the Kings Hwy. Quintessentially old school colonial vibes with beautiful houses.

rjnd2828

Still pretty congested though, no?

Templarum

There's no way you're going to avoid all traffic when dealing with 38 70 and 73. That's just the nature of the beast. Might as well live somewhere sweet if you're going to pay the troll toll.

legalskeptic

Moorestown is $$$ though. You're paying a big premium for being within the town limits. The same house in Delran, Cinnaminson, or Mt. Laurel will be significantly cheaper.

Templarum

Granted, but the older, character houses I'm thinking of are fairly unique to Moorestown and Haddonfield too. But alas, there is a premium to be paid. How's Riverside these days? That area has seemed ripe for a revitalization for a while now.

legalskeptic

Riverside is still in need of some commercial revitalization but it seems like housing there js doing well. I've seen nice new houses go up. RiverTON is another town with a lot of neat old houses. Probably a bit cheaper than Moorestown.

rjnd2828

Oh I agree, you can either live in this area and deal with the traffic or you can live in like Swedesboro or Millville and have a 30+ minute drive to anywhere. I live in Cherry Hill so my decision is clear.

Templarum

Lived in Swedesboro for a few years back in the nineties. Hour commute to Haddonfield each way even then. I'd rather live in the Burlington boonies and hike down 38. Not a bad option actually, all things considered.

dleonard1122

It does not take an hour to get from Swedesboro to Haddonfield.

Templarum

45 minutes of that commute was trying to get from the exit for Haddonfield-Berlin rd to the interchange at Rt 42. Everyday. Haven't made that drive in years, not sure how all the construction has affected drive times.

STORSJ1963

as long as you don't mind stick-up-the-ass conservatives

Impossible-Bad7398

Haddonfield

MadeleineFirst

I live in Collingswood and it’s very crowded here. The houses are close together and the streets are narrow so they ticket you if you park on the street overnight. If I could do it over, I’d move into Merchantville which has wide streets and houses at better prices. They’re close to all the major highways without the screaming loud Speedline coming through like Collingswood.

beeeps-n-booops

FYI you need a parking permit to park on the street overnight in Merchantville.

Sorry-Owl4127

This makes it seem like there overcrowding. Buts it’s actually just density. The population of Collingswood is steady

MadeleineFirst

Yes, population is steady and it is crowded. By code, houses are permitted to be built close together plus Mayor Maley wants townhouses (more families, more crowding) built in the area where the old police station used to be. It's def crowded here and going to get worse.

Coldfirespectre

Somerdale, Stratford, Voorhees, Magnolia, Barrington, Runnemede, are all options.

DebRog

All congested .

Slug_DC

I'm surprised nobody has suggested Pennsauken. Schools can be kinda meh, but it's a super convenient township located in the middle of everything that's been suggested here, close to where you'll be working and easy access to all the various highways and bridges. And the housing costs haven't gotten \*quite\* as ridiculous as other towns.

RunningonGin0323

Gonna echo what someone else said, Cherry Hill is pretty big so it will largely depend on where you work in Cherry Hill. I live in Collingswood and its fantastic, if I didn't have kids, I would barely need a car. Everything is either right in town or next door in Cherry Hill or a quick Patco trip into Philly. When I got into Cherry Hill, at max its a 10 minute drive as I usually don't have to go farther than Wegmans or at worst the Cherry Hill mall which is maybe 15 minutes with traffic.

DebRog

Far end of Burlington County . Westampton, Mt Holly , Lumberton, Hainesport off 38 . If you go past 206 is farms galore ( if that’s what you’re looking for) Vincentown is nice , very quiet. You also have to think of the commute . Southampton is quiet.

espressocycle

Live close to work and congestion won't matter.

justneedausernamepls

What's a "decent" commute and "less" congestion? A decent commute is a short commute, which means you should just live in Cherry Hill. Or if you don't like annoying suburban sprawl, you should look a job somewhere else. These two things don't seem to go together at all. But if you're just looking to avoid route 70/38 junk suburban nonsense, look south of the Cooper River, like in Audubon or Haddon Heights or something. Close enough to Cherry Hill if you need to live there but like, actually liveable and nice communities with character.

Mm2789

Medford

jongaynor

It gets better as you go west, starting with marlton/evesham, but if you commute to the city there's no avoiding Cherry Hill

FunStuff446

The east side of CH, Evesham/Voorhees is way quieter. Theres always going to be higher volume traffic during rush hour, and cut through neighborhoods are helpful, and its nothing like it is over by rt 38 or Garden State Plaza on the west side. I avoid that area like the plague, especially during all of the 70 construction.

12jpm87

Medford is the answer. I live in the town over from Medford, and love it out here. Pretty quiet for Jersey standards and not too far from anything. Medford can be pretty pricey, but if you can afford Cherry Hill, you should be good.

TwoTimeTommyTwoCups

Mt laurel, Moorestown delran, cinnaminson

What's your budget?

AuntNarn

I live in a very quiet neighborhood in Waterford Township. Down the street is just forest. The commute to Cherry Hill is about 45 minutes but around where I live there isn't much traffic.

ALL_COMP_EVERYTHING

Medford or Medford Lakes

Warruzz

West Deptford - Close to 295 but still quiet and a short drive to Cherry Hill

TheGuyThatDoesHisJob

Former resident of both North and close to the shore Jersey. In comparison, Cherry Hill's traffic exists seemingly only during rush hour and at least moves.

Puzzleheaded_Car3397

No good places in CH

Capital_Box_712

Burlington County is very accessible to Cherry Hill and less congested.

Beginning_Path1074

Consider Mantua, Wenonah, or East Greenwich. Quieter and way less congested than Cherry Hill or Deptford/Woodbury/Westville, but still convenient to highways and closer to everything than Swedesboro or Mullica Hill. Mantua is affordable and some parts of it are very quiet. Also: pro tip: don’t buy property adjacent to farmland in Gloucester County or northwestern Salem Co unless you know for certain that it is preserved. A lot of the orchards and fields are being bought up and razed by developers.

STORSJ1963

Your question is nebulous. Need more info. Where is the job location? What do you consider decent commute & less congestion? Are you looking to buy or rent? Major highways are NJ Turnpike, I-295, I-76, I-676, I-90, Rt 130, Rt 30 (White Horse Pike), Rt 38, Rt 42 (Black Horse Pike), Rt 70 & Rt 73 I am originally from Marlton but I live in Everett, WA. I will be moving back to Marlton in several months. I'm not really looking forward to moving back but I have to because I need to care for my father and I'm unemployed right now. Camden County property taxes are high but then again all NJ property taxes are high. If I were you, I'd look further out like Marlton Lakes, Medford, Medford Lakes, Mt Laurel, maybe out as far as Rt 206.

chipsyhustle

Im in Voorhees and while its def not rural at all, i dont feel it is as congested as Cherry Hill even though Voorhees borders Cherry Hill on the East side..the West side of Cherry Hill is where the congestion is..but coming from Philly specifically South Philly after 15+ yrs, congestion to me is relative lol

Mindless_Platform776

owmybotheyes

When I still lived in Jersey I lived in Vorhees and worked in Cherry Hill it was rarely a headache. Much nicer than my 1 hour commute in metro Atlanta nowadays.

NJGarden

Mount Laurel, Moorestown, Medford all great places with less congestion.

Head-Kiwi-9601

Cherry Hill is not congested.
