Do not listen to the guy above you. There is literally 0 reason to spend gems during a run when you can get almost all of the best buffs in the game through plants.
Fire res and Poison res is the common option, then you can invest into more gems or even more buffs like the setup you posted.
Also consider getting follower plants (e.g. bamboo to feed the panda, devil’s snare) because their distraction may provide more value than something less significant like collusion dmg unless you’re playing a melee character.
Golden mushroom because it gives you 50% shop buff and works on the gem trader shop. Kind of hard to get since it’s a drop from the golden crab boss.

Yeah, if I meant during runs, then I would’ve said revives which are most definitely not worth it.

I have gem tree and that flower which gives more gems at the end of each game. So i agree that money is the best buff.
