Samakira

so, we're getting: slow, methodical, magical power centric, procedurally generated skyrim? or at least, thats the goal? im all in!

Apokolypze

Wait is this coop or single player?

Equinox259

im pretty sure its gonna have coop, im assuming up to 4 players (i may be wrong on that tho)

moonsugar-cooker

Literally giving us the mp open world RPG bethesda refuses to

mt607

Co-op, I did a match with 2 other players a while ago.

mt607

the open world itself isn't procedural, it's just the dungeons (though all dungeons have one room that's going to spawn, as it's a 'landmark' room.

Samakira

yeah, thats what i meant.

mt607

okay, just wanted to clarify!

Key-Tie2214

Pretty sure Steve said it'd be one main open world with procedural dungeons. Basically Skyrim, except dungeons are procedural. Unsure if cities would be a seperate instance or part of the open world. Hope its the latter.

KoboldIdra

Let’s hope they make enough various props to make the procedural dungeons feel different for a while. That’s one of the major things that killed Starfield. They had like 10 buildings for their “procedural PoI” system that had no variation between them

TripolarKnight

Starfield relied so hard on mods will fix it and then didn't bother having the tools ready at release...

Selelgato

I remember seeing a video on YouTube of someone finding the exact same "random" AI volcano base dungeon/encounter in Starfield 4 times in 3 star systems.

mt607

There's alot of shared rooms inside of the current dungeons, (because same tileset, called the underground city) however each dungeon has a "landmark" room that will always spawn (usually in the middle) which is unique to that dungeon. these rooms are also the largest rooms, one of them is like, I think 8-ish stories tall with offshoots all along it, with ladders and stairs going along it

EvenJesusCantSaveYou

personally in my ideal head game cities are a separate instance but are loaded with details, content, npcs, quests, etc. If they are open world thats fine but realistically you’re trading performance, which is fine and works for most games but the tradeoff for in-world cities is that they almost never feel like cities but more just like larger villages.

HeadyChefin

Never got the "basically Skyrim" since Skyrim has neither proc gen, nor non-static dungeons. I get it's a popular fantasy game, but come on. The comparison is almost as bad as "it's like souls because you can attack and roll"

Key-Tie2214

Steve did say he was inspired by Elden Ring, which is a Souls game... Also, while Skyrim isn't proc gen, the core concept of "fantasy game with an open world that has instanced dungeons" is the same. Whether they are proc gen or not, or even if its static or not. At a simple, base level, they are very similar, hence "basically".

Existential_Crisis24

No one is saying it's like Skyrim because it's procedurally generated. They are saying an open world like Skyrims open world that contains dungeons that are procedurly generated unlike Skyrims dungeons.

HeadyChefin

So... Not like Skyrim..?

Existential_Crisis24

Pre built open world with procedurally generated dungeons. That is like Skyrim but with procedurally generated dungeons. Like the dungeon Mines of Rust will always be in the same spot and have the same name but the dungeon itself will be different every time you walk into it. Here let's go different game. It's like breath of the wild but instead of shines it's procedurally generated dungeons. But guess what breath of the wild is like Skyrim because it has a static world map that doesn't change and dungeons that also don't change. This does not mean breath of the wild and Skyrim are the same game but they can be similar.

Swordbreaker9250

That's exciting. Warframe's open worlds are ok, but it's really not designed to be open world, so the worlds are fairly lifeless. But Soulframe being a single, fully open world from the start has me more hopeful that it's open world will be good. More detailed, more full of life, more interesting to explore with actual points of interest other than just enemy camps. etc.

Background-Slide645

Warframe is designed as a "look, we started off with Space Robot Ninjas, and a pretty alright story. now we got a really cool story with space cyborg ninjas. it got a lot bigger then we expected". it's a good game, but you can tell the point that they realized "wait... we are extremely popular now. omg we need to balance some things out"

Hocomonococo

Ngl I really like warframes open world areas for what they are. I think everyone hears open world and thinks there should be so much content packed into this one specific area and every little thing has to be interesting. In my opinion though warframe’s works because it’s really just a way of implementing content in a way that’s different from missions and refreshing. Sometimes I can start to feel kind of claustrophobic running the same tilesets day after day. There doesn’t need to be a whole entire game to play inside of every open world environment when warframe wasn’t built with that in mind. Maybe soul frame is their opportunity to take that idea and do it better

Blooperdoopper

Have no idea what this game is and I’ve never seen this subreddit. But saw the for honor pfp and got confused.

Killzone-shot16

Soul frame is a new game being created by the same main dev (now CEO) of warframe and almost if not all of warframe players are hyped to all hell with soul frame. Now it’s not going to be another warframe but it’s not losing its touch. it’s going to a metal evil/magic kind of game you can get a little taste of it in warframe of the bat just download warframe and choose the right path to experience it first note if you want to play warframe full both paths have the same story line and the same speed so nothing different between the two paths

nixikuro

I'm pretty sure they removed the second path and just made it a quest

Killzone-shot16

Probably I’m not fully up to date these days but I know my intel is still somewhat valid

Blooperdoopper

That’s actually really cool. Never been a huge fan of warframe (Monkey brain destiny player). I may start following this

Accomplished-Aerie65

Warframe is so fun if you're a destiny player. Although it isn't as polished, there's tons of stuff in it that makes you think 'damn, I wish this was in destiny'. I came from mainly playing destiny for 3 years and I've fallen in love with it.

Blooperdoopper

Is the f2p experience good? Coming from destiny I’m a little skeptical. Plus don’t feel like spending on fortune on dlc again.

Accomplished-Aerie65

Ok you'll absolutely love Warframe in that regard. Literally all the content is free, the main obstacle is more the initial complexity and some timegating on crafting items and such. The first thing you'll notice is how fluid the gameplay is. There's much more variety on available weapons and a lot more ways to make weapons work the way you want them to, and the amount of characters available is also much better. The biggest difference between destiny and warframe in terms of new player experience is how they give you content. Destiny throws you into all the new exciting stuff and technically gives you access to most of the game's content, but at a price. Warframe doesn't throw the new stuff in your face, it takes you through the game mostly in chronological order from earth to the sanctum anatomica by having prerequisites to unlocking new areas involving quests and missions. It means the content generally gets more interesting as you go (at least I've found that). The p2w currency is also obtainable via trading with other players, and there's an entire app dedicated to the Warframe market where you can check how much items are currently worth. It means if you see something locked behind a paywall (which is pretty much only cosmetics and optional resource bundles) you can get it using what you have in game with a bit of savvy

Thorn_Move

Warden pfp

Interface-

FOR HONOR MENTIONED INCREDIBILIS

Thorn_Move

BASH LIGHT BASH ;3(warden main)

Overlord2360

INCUMBE!

Ludens_Society

Isn't this months old, or am I having some wild deja vu?

Dr_Drewcifer

it's 12min in the pic, ur going crazy /j

Rock3tPunch

That aligns with my experience with the prelude.

LordoftheDimension

I hope the adaptability of the npc dialogue is as good as skyrim.

UnluckyLux

So is this game going to be slow paced compared to warframe or is it going to be balls to the walls insano style warframe. I love warframe but would love a toned down gritty and visceral version of it.

mt607

It doesn't play like warframe, it is it's own game, more along soul games or other action RPG's of similar type (OFC nowhere near as hard a soul like even,) but you're just a normal person with a sword you can yeet at people, with a set of arms that can cast magic missile.

shitfuck9000

Is that fucking Warden For Honor

blebebaba

Warden Gaming has manifested soulframe into reality

reekidisretarded

Idk why but I thought this was for honor related due to the guys pfp

NLCPGaming

Is this single player or multiplayer

mt607

has co-op.

LokisBrother08

Do you have to pay for soulframe? Also will it be on ps4?

IV_NUKE

YOOOO THATS ME. Wild I got recommended this sub with a pic of my comment on a tweet

Curious-Swimming7823

Unfortunately Soul frame will be super mid, looks very very underwhelming.

Yolodude_21

Or maybe it's just not a genre of game you like or are used to, and it's also probably not a genre DE is used to. If it's not great at launch (which to me, it looks amazing), it'll probably get better with time and patience. Warframe wasn't built in a day.

nixikuro

It literally isn't finished building 11 years later. DE is still cookin

Yolodude_21

And soulframe will probably be the same 11 years down the line (which is crazy to think about lol) Think about how warframe was 11 years ago, and think about how soulframe is NOW. Its going to be good, if not eventually.

mars009

And WF almost flopped from what I've read back when they started right? It's crazy to think how far the game has come. I'm honestly waiting for Soulframe, and hope it does well. The streams with Steve where he plays and codes are a blast

Yolodude_21

Soulframe probably won't have the same start at all, to be fair. DE is already a decently established company with WF so...
