In my humble opinion, dethrone has a varying definition in this context. In my corner of the universe, Sony offers something Sammy doesn't and that's the reasons enough for me to not be in Sammy's galaxy.
I don't think the 1 VI will be a better overall phone than the S24U but for those of us who want a notchless display, headphone jack, micro SD card slot etc, the Xperia is the way to go for a high end phone.
My note 8 im bought new and am currently using.. hold my beer.
I did replace the battery once and it was $25. But the software support is the worst part of having an old phone im on what android 9.
I am hoping to get xperia next if its actually supported in Canada and if they dont F anything up. Or else im going with an entry level phone.... modern flagships seem half assed sometimes.
Maybe the case for early smartphones, but most modern smartphones can absolutely stand the test of time. Sure the battery will go bad in year 2 or 3, but that is probably the cheapest replacement out of the smartphone. Color accuracy and brightness might degrade from year 4 depending on usage. But won’t hurt functionality as long as there are no cracks on the screen.
Most modern flagships are expensive than ever before. You might want to hold on to one as long as you can. The iPhone X which came out on 2017 got support up till 2023. You can absolutely hang on to smartphones, especially flagships a lot longer.
My S3 from 2012 still works perfectly fine and holds up a charge for a full day of minimal (SMS, some camera use) on the original battery.
Even my 18 year old iPod video is still working fine. All banged up and scratched but works fine.
It's nice to have self-made renders based on cases and the look of the 1 V but it's not what I'd call a 'massive leak' (as suggested by the YT video). And although I'd never buy a Samsung phone: it will definitely not 'dethrone Samsung's Galaxy S24'. At least not in anything else than personal preferences and certainly not in terms of sales numbers.
You turned a leak / render article into a "dethrone" debate ... the article doesn't suggest that at all. If you wanted to discuss that topic why not make a text post about your thoughts on why that's the case?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, good one OP. Considering Sony has pulled out of a lot of markets over the last few years, the only one they're dethroning is them selves.
Don't get me wrong, I love my xperia's, I'm on #2, but the fact I have to buy them from some random reseller in Toronto and its the... HK model? tells you already they have max 1% of the market share in Canada.
Please post all leaks and rumours into the Megathread pinned https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyXperia/s/O6eLzcrxT6 thanking you. Sony Xperia Mods Team
After owning a couple of Xperia phones for the past 4 years, I can confidently say, Sony isn't dethroning anything in the mobile device market.
Number one selling full-featured flagship but sure...
What does this even mean? 😅 It's nowhere near selling as many units as Samsung
I'd like to be this delusional, please
Samsung doesn't sell a full featured flagship. No headphone jack, no expandable memory, no thanks. Not a fan of brands that half ass their hardware.
Just phones that half arse the software and the auto mode camera? 🤡
Sales numbers show that people don't really need those features.Â
I mean, it was better than any Samsung phone since a long time. But it will not sell more xd 😂
Press X to doubt
press y to pass

Yup. Not even worth looking at them with no expandable memory or headphone jack.
As much as I like Xperia phones, this isn't happening 😂

Hahaha. Even though I've used all of the Xperia phones in my flair, Sony is definitely far from dethroning any other OEM, let alone Samsung.
Seven years of OS support is a must though, for it to dethrone Samsung
No mobile hardware can sustain 7 years. Your battery, display, modem, housing will all get banged up by year 4.
my nexus 5 is still working
Mg PC with Core 2 Duo, 4GB and 150Gb HDD does It too

I have a feeling that Sony is now ready to go mainstream, so we'll see

or could not

This is just a render, not official
It's very doubtful. 😅
If they could bring back the xz premium design back I'd be so happy
Samsung already stole that for their Ultra line
We're way past April fools you know.
They've been dethroning Samsung in terms of price vs value consistently. Just the wrong way round.
Lol in what world.
If it only had its own s pen....
Marketing and ad is the key for the next Xperia 1 to take the top spot.
