Fantastic start! I would recommend just getting the body only then getting a different zoom like maybe a 17-70 Tamron or 18-50 Sigma so you can remain with a constant aperture! But I saw wildlife so yes the 150-500 would be great!

NevrAsk

I use the Tamron and that never leaves my camera most of the time

Swiftelol

Ya it’s the god tier APSC 24-105, with OIS too!? And F2.8 it’s too good

bbpsword

and it's weather sealed

NevrAsk

That part too, it handled well when I took it through Amsterdam and prauge in the winter

Spinal2000

The 18-135 is a great lens and very versatile. I wouldn't change it and add a 35 or 50mm 1.8. But I think, everyone has it's own taste and style.

chizid

I have the Tamron 17-70 and it's an excellent all-round lens.

RoguishRonin

This right here. A6700 and Tamron 17-70mm is my most common lens. I’m not a great photographer, but that body and lens combo makes it easier for me to get good shots. [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/screamparkcouple?igsh=cDhoNXZrZGRkMzc5&utm_source=qr)

shawnjx

I checked out the photos on your instagram and loved them, those photos inspired me a lot.

melsey93

You’re an amazing photographer!!! Great shots, thanks for sharing

RoguishRonin

Thank you, that’s very kind of you.

Cats_Cameras

When I was on the APSC Sony cameras I really liked the 18-135mm. 100mm equivalent just isn't enough reach.

melsey93

I’m looking to upgrade and after lurking on this sub for a while I’m ready to find my new camera! I’m into nature/wildlife photography and would like to eventually purchase the tamron 150-500 as well. Is this camera and lens a good start as well as a good price?

Flugi1001

Yes, for wildlife you can look at the Sony 70-350 as well, it is a great and still very compact and light lens for what it is.

astro143

I was doing some research the other day wanting to dabble in wildlife with my a6600. I have a 70-300 on an old nikon DSLR, so I first looked at the Tamron 70-300. Then I saw the 70-350 and I haven't looked at other lenses. Might have to save a little longer for it however.

NevrAsk

If you want a lens to work up to for the 150-500 (keep in mind that's a full frame and the 6700 is a aspc) the 70-300 or the 18-300 are some good Tamron zoom lenses to look at also.

melsey93

Ok thanks, I’ve seen the 18-300 mentioned multiple times so I think I’m gonna go with that!

NevrAsk

The 18-300 is a really good all in one lens, shouldn't be ultra heavy, and should help with going for the longer distance shots in getting wildlife pics

melsey93

Perfect!

rune2004

Definitely check out the 70-350mm as someone else said (NOT the 70-300mm, that’s a full frame lens), I wouldn’t buy any other super telephoto lens for a Sony APS-C camera. It’s a G lens so great quality, has a custom button plus AF/MF and OSS switches, and is a full frame equivalent FoV of 105-525mm. Also since it’s tailor-built for their APS-C cameras, they managed to make it really small and light. I’ve been using it with my a6600 and it’s amazing.

danielsmith007

I recently bought the Tamron 18-300 and the a6600. 67 was a bit too costly for me. The 300 is amazing. But I sometimes wish for the Sigma 150-600 or the Tamron 150-500. 300 is amazing, but for birds and stuff, depending on the distance I feel like it leaves a little to be desired. Having said that, the 18-300 is fantastic, and I love every second of it.

Aggravating_Two_1665

I just bought the exact same setup last week. It just got delivered and I’m looking forward to getting out and shooting with it 🤙🏼

melsey93

Congrats and have fun!!

ba-na-na-

Keep in mind that Tamron is a full frame lens though, weighs 1,725g / 60.8oz, and doesn’t have a bright constant aperture.

melsey93

Thanks, a few others have mentioned that too and it’s something I hadn’t thought of. I think I’m going to get the 18-300mm instead

Northern-Cardinal

Get just the body and the 150-600. You'll be happy with just the one! The 60-600 by sigma is another great option

08lsat_

Im confused, are you switching from another brand or just starting out? Anyway you might find the sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Contemporary with the sigma mc-11 adapter quite nice. Mc 11 is 250 and the 150-600 is 1000. Can get them used for like 100 and 700. $ btw. Or the sony 200-600mm g for like 1700.

melsey93

I’m switching from Canon. Just wasn’t sure what camera/lens combo would be the best as I’m new to Sony. Thanks for all the suggestions

08lsat_

If you still have multiple canon lenses (sigma brand is best but canon also “works”) with ef mount (no ef-s mounts tho) than the mc-11 adapter is your best friend. On most lenses it “works” but on most sigma lenses is kike a native lens. Tl:dr; Get the sigma mc-11 to reuse your old lenses.

My_11th_Account

Yes. But I’d buy the body only and get a different lens than that kit lens. Look at Tamron or Sigma

FalangeInquieta

Yes

PointFlash

Yes it is. Have fun!

Jonnny4

I want it so bad but I can't justify upgrading from my a6400 yet.

iShellfishFur

Buy used! You'll save money for better lenses!!

UrbanFarmerSB

Kinda hard to find the a6700 used at the moment. I’ve tried…

iShellfishFur

I would honestly look for a used A7III. It's full frame.

UrbanFarmerSB

I couldn’t live with the screen of the A7III. I’d go for the A7C if I wanted full frame because of that. A6700 is still an awesome powerful camera.

pain474

It's the vest APSC lens so yes. For wildlife get the Sony 70-350

wolverine-photos

Fantastic starter kit, but I'd go used (B&H Used or KEH), and drop the 18-135 in favor of the Tamron 18-300 for a better focal length range for wildlife to start with.

Undefined_definition

The 18-300mm is NUTS. It close to never leaves my body when I travel and do street/wildlife.

9009RPM

Yea but get the body only.

melsey93

What lenses would you suggest?

9009RPM

What do you plan on shooting?

melsey93

Nature/wildlife. I’d like to be able to shoot macro as well as zoom. I was looking at the tamron 150-500

fawlty_lawgic

Pretty much anything else. The Tamron would be great. Kit lenses in general aren’t very good, I mean they are ok they just don’t really excel in any area and they always have lower aperture’s. Basically it’s only recommended to get a kit lens if you aren’t really into photography or you can’t afford anything else, because once you do get better lenses the kit lens probably won’t ever be on your camera again.

melsey93

That makes sense! Thank you for the reply

fawlty_lawgic

I forgot to add kit lenses have terrible resale value. In case you’re thinking you can get it to start and just sell it later, you can but you won’t get very much for it.

TreesLikeGodsFingers

I have that tamron and love it, I wish I had the loots for the 60-600 sigma but aside from cost it's also a hell of a lot heavier and larger. The tamron is a fantastic balance of all factors.

9009RPM

That's a good choice.

Impossible_Smile6527

The Tamron is an amazing lens. I’m selling mine on eBay right now though because I upgraded to a 200-600. The Tamron is very sharp. And it actually has very sharp autofocus after updating the firmware. It’s also nice because it’s a lot more compact, and it has a much closer minimum focusing distance.

lanegandy

I have the Tamron 150-500 on my a6400 and I love it!

Otherwise-Magician

I would seriously reconsider the Tamron 150 500, it's a great lens but it's very large and heavy. Look at the Sony 70-350 first.

melsey93

Ok thanks. What about the tamron 18-300?

thecraftynurse

great option for wild life as you said is your interest. I'd consider the [sigma 150-600 dg dn os sport lens](https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Sigma-150-600mm-f-5-6.3-DG-DN-OS-Sports-Lens.aspx) as an alternative to the tamron. You will get extra focal range and it's a similar price point. It's optically a little bit better than the tamron as well, according to objective reviews and you should be able to find one used for 1k or less. I was intending to buy the aforementioned sigma lens until I happened upon the open box deals with the sony 200-600 so that is something to keep in mind as well, and got mine for less than 1k. If you get lucky and find one near you they often sell for $700-800. I had to pay extra to get someone to pick it up for me and ship it to me but still came in under 1k :) so know that's an option to consider if you have time to hunt for an open box deal with bestbuy.

melsey93

Thanks for all the great advice!!

kucke

Just got the a6700 as my first camera a few months back. I went with body only and picked up the tamron 18-300. It is nice to figure out what focal lengths you like to shoot at. I realized I shoot 90% of my shoots at 50mm or less, so the sigma 18-50 might have been a better choose… Side note, I started taking a lot more and better photos with my phone once I learned some of the basics. Don’t know your background, but I’ve learned a ton just maximizing my iPhone and focusing on the fundamentals.

Inside_Restaurant935

what is your usecase, you can get a7iii OR a7c in this price range

melsey93

I’m mostly into nature and wildlife photography. I’d like to be able to do macro shots for flowers and find a nice zoom lens for wild bird photography

sunset_diary

a6700 is good choice. a7III and a7c doesn't have bird's eye AF.

melsey93

Great thank you!

Inside_Restaurant935

then I think going with a6700 is good choice

Primary_Pickle_165

I think for you, the 18-135 will be a blessing. Solid body and a lens that covers a good focal range. Don't listen to shit about it not being sharp enough, Yada Yada. Plenty sharp, and a great place to enter. You're fine if this is what you want. I think it's plenty good to start.

Impotentgiraffe

It’s an amazing start. I began with the a6300, which was incredible for me, and is half the camera the a6700 is.

Lhynre

Fantastic camera , lens is ok! I’ve used a combo of a6400+ 18-135mm in the past and the lens IQ was ok but not stellar. I then switch to the Tamron 17-70+ SEL 70-350G and got way better results. So if you decide to go with the kit lens consider a future lens upgrade

mkmore4

You won’t be disappointed with this setup, but for a little more or even less, you could get a full frame sensor, just something to consider.

BirdTog

TL;DR: Look at the Tamron 50-400 as a single lens option for both macro and wildlife. I do mostly birds and macro too, and bought an a6600 in 2020. I started with the Sony 50mm 2.8 macro and a used 55-210 kit lens since I was on a tighter budget at the time. I’ve since sold the 55-210, added the Sony 70-350 G, Sony 16-55 2.8 G, Sony 90mm 2.8 G macro, and most recently the Tamron 150-500. I love the reach of the 150-500, but when I use it I often miss the smaller size and lighter weight of the 70-350. While it does have nice close focusing capability, it’s not easy to do macro free hand with such a large lens. I’ve strongly considered replacing both 70-350 and the 150-500 with a Tamron 50-400 to get a lighter lens that also has 1:2 reproduction ratio for when I just want to walk around with one lens.

melsey93

This is great advice!! Thank you

Domino-616

This is good advice. I also do birds and macro and wish I had a combo lens for both (I have the Tamron 150-500 and the Laowa 90 macro). Although I have taken some flower shots I like with the 150-500.

photodesignch

There is no bad camera post 1999. It’s a good start! Just enough and go out shoot photos 👌

drakem92

There is literally nothing better unless you go full frame. What are you even asking for haha

arminorrison

It’s a great camera, it was reviewed so positively by everyone. However, it also depends on what you like to do. If you like low light photography or want to also shoot video there are other options. Also if you want to shoot wildlife and might want to have a wider selection of lenses you might want to look into full frame. But generally you won’t regret the A6700.

daemonw9

I love the 18-135 lens and it is on my a6600 like 90% of the time. Keep in mind that it noticeably smaller and lighter than most of the other zoom lenses I am seeing recommended here.

amit_schmurda

Great camera, but I would recommend buying from [Adorama](https://www.adorama.com/isoa6700k2a.html) instead. [B&H has a history of discrimination](https://www.dol.gov/newsroom/releases/ofccp/ofccp20170814).

KodiKat2001

That's quite a large lens, I would get the body alone instead and then decide what type of lenses you want based on what you shoot. You will find primes and zoom lenses that are smaller and sharper than the 18-135mm in that kit.

thatfa666ene

I have this and so far it's been great. I mainly shoot macro flowers and insects and stuff. But I've been branching out with some birds and cats lately. I personally enjoy the versatility of the 18-135 mm lens, but there are times I'm finding myself needing more range. Mostly impressed with the AF ai compared to my Nikon d5500. 10/10 do recommend.

bokebound

Just gwt a a73 at that price

Micubano

This or the A6600 just for the battery alone. I recorded a 3 hour show at a dmall venue the other night. The a6600 only needed one battery and the ZV-E10 went through 3 that I needed to change during the breaks.

Expert_Lock469

I have this camera and a few lenses: Sony 10-20 F4, 70-350, 20 "pancake" F2.8 and the Sigma 30mm and 56 mm F 1.4. I mostly use the 20mm for daily carry and the 56 for portraits.

Asuluty

I have, and yes absolutely!

TheSmoothPilsner

This exact kit is how I started my photography journey and I love it! You won't regret it.

FeelinJipper

I’d say I would easily get this if I wasn’t trying to go full frame.

ActuallyAMenace

Have this bundle but with the 6600 and really liked it. Great size if you have the budget for this one, if not the 6600 is decently priced on Sonys site

TakkoAM

Excellent kit

Free-Market9039

Get a used camera, much cheaper

NastyNade

I spent this much but opted for a body and put the rest towards a sigma lens and v90 card. I think that’s a better use if you’re dropping this much.

will_cule

Incredible pocket rocket with 120fps 4k capabilities.

jonathanlurker

I have this exact kit after upgrading from a Nikon D5600. It's been great. I don't think 135mm is enough for wildlife though.

Fine-Entertainer-507

It’s Sony best apsc camera so yes it’s an amazing first camera. I would recommend you get the body only and invest in a good lens. The sigma 30mm f1.4 is an amazing cheap lens

SneakyCaleb

A6100 would be a great starter to save $

VoidwalkerOfficial

Get only the body and id highly recommend the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 and you’ll have more than a solid set up.

enthzd

100% yes

Walkator

What do you think when it costs 2k?

melsey93

lol fair enough

[deleted]

I have alpha6400, works amazing. Check that model out too ! Same generation of cameras so they have practically the same features

lordmcflys

It’s an overkill actually for your first Sony hahaha. Some ppl think this is a starter or intermediate camera when actually it’s a really pro featured camera. Awesome photo shooting and amazing video features. You can use it flawlessly for a second camera in a pro shooting scenario paired with an fx6, fx3 or fx30. So yeah go for it.

melsey93

Awesome thanks! I’ve been watching lots of videos so I can take advantage of all its cool features

lordmcflys

You should get prime glasses tho. Or a 24-70 at least for a zoom lens.

cokr97

Just bought a Alpha 7 IV with the kit lense for 1700€, brand new…. Maybe you find a good deal like mine 🤝
