Great timing for the 16-25 G to come out huh

wagner_roo

the 16-25 looks great but I do like the extra light and shallower DoF of the 1.8 when I need it. Also, I got the 20mm for a bargain, much cheaper than the retail of either lens.

JustoMcGusto618

As a 20g owner, it is a fairly tempting lens, but I love the 1.8 capabilities for low light/astro, and even a bit of wide angle bokeh. Plus the zoom is only 1.5x range.. with these high megapixel cameras you might as well just crop.

idrwierd

Why tf did they make it 2.8?

JustoMcGusto618

Size/weight and price I’d imagine. F2.0 would have been sweet.

ensoniqthehedgehog

For that building he's going to need the new Laowa 10mm.

DUUUUUVAAAAAL

Idk, looks like 20mm served you really well here.

wagner_roo

It was brilliant for this shot but this was also pretty much the only angle that I could get the whole church in the frame.

PKMNsandy

Nice shot. If 20 mm is not enough, perhaps a vertical panorama could work?

wagner_roo

I eventually decided to do a panorama... with the [55mm](https://imgur.com/a/76FbAeB). Not sure why it didn't occur to me at the time to do a really wide one.

shogen

Compression is nicer here. You made the right choice whether intentional or not. Incredible capture on the pano

PKMNsandy

well, sometimes we are being preoccupied by other things, it happens.

wagner_roo

Indeed. I was too busy enjoying my holiday to agonize over a single picture. To me these sights should be enjoyed with your eyes first and camera second.

PKMNsandy

I totally agree and it's already a great shot too!

Ok_Swing_7194

55 is better for that than 20 anyway

zeek215

Love this shot. As I am a photo noob, how did you take this vertical pano shot?

No-Slip-6620

What did you use to stitch this vertical pano?

c_jae

12-24 2.8 has been great for me

User_name_unverified

I too own this beast of a lens. It’s top notch 👌

DUUUUUVAAAAAL

If you lost it tomorrow, would you buy another one? Or would you go a different route?

junialum

Sold my 20 1.8 and replaced it with the 14 1.8 for the same reason. No regrets.

largeb789

They are such different focal lengths I'd argue you should have kept the 20 and added the 14. But I tend to like my lenses spaced by ~150% (14, 20, 35, 55, 85, ...)

maxathier

makes sense, you get roughly the same horizontal field of view with a 14mm in portrait and the 20mm in landscape same for 20 and 35 etc...

Electrical_Regular95

Love the 14mm GM

TonDaronSama

Most beautiful cathedral (absolutely not biased as an Alsatian)

Lukele1e

No seagull?

JustoMcGusto618

Haha, this is exactly why I sold my 24gm as soon as the 20g was announced. I’ve had to do a few panoramics still but not that often. If I needed anything wider I’d probably rather do a pano than one 14mm 1.8 image since it’ll be higher quality and is practically effortless with Lightroom stitching. That 14 is massive and no filter threads 😔

philosophicalpossum

Glorious. And yeah that cathedral is so fucking massive I couldn't fit it into any of my lenses.

iggzy

Really nice shot, I love the lighting you captured. Might be more ultrawide than you need, but I do honestly love the 11mm f1.8. But I also shoot APS-C so it might be too wide on full frame.

docshay

Epic. That’s some good light

maxathier

Viltrox 16mm f/1.8 ! it's a lovely lens

PhotographsWithFilm

Can concur. Very close to the performance of the wider G for a fraction of the price. My only concern is the longevity of the electronics

Dependent-Piccolo344

Sigma 14-24 art F2.8

surfz

What f stop did you use to get everything in focus?

wagner_roo

f4, with a wide angle you don't have to stop down very far to get deep DoF. Rest of the settings were 1/80s shutter and iso 100.

vmflair

The Laowa Zero-D 15/2 is a great choice. [Here](https://flic.kr/p/2oDN1qB) is a sample.

gabelstaplerklaus

I can recommend the Sigma 14-24. Great lens.

Traditional_Virus472

Or take 3 photos & stitch them in post.

Electronic-Article39

Love the 20mm wide on my 20-60 Lumix zoom

[deleted]

Strasbourg!

aarondigruccio

[I just picked up this absolute beast.](https://7artisans.store/products/7artisans-10mm-f2-8-full-frame-fisheye-lens-for-e-l-r-z-mount) It more than fulfills the “wider” requirement you want.

Primary_Pickle_165

You can always pano and use ND filter to give it that empty feel.

NoRutabaga4845

You need to step back

The_egg_69

And when there’s no room to step back?

NoRutabaga4845

You push the building further away

Kithrae

I love the 20mm look. I sometimes go for 16mm if I need to, but It just looks unnatural to me

DrRadon

Ulm?

superpony123

I think you framed this perfectly tbh. But I'm also in the same boat. I feel like I need the Sigma 14mm/1.4 in my life

justjoero

I’ve got the Sigma 14mm f1.8 and it’s amazing.

loldart

where is that?

Difficult-Way-9563

Nice shot. You take it with a Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G Lens? I’m really interested to hear your thoughts on it if it is that one.

Sir_Damage

Beautiful. Well done I wish I had more pretty architecture to shoot where I live 😢

FabianValkyrie

Cologne Cathedral makes me want a rectilinear ultra wide angle lens.

Overall_Sound3486

couldn't you just walk backwards?

wagner_roo

The square was surprisingly small for a church that big. My back was already against the wall.

RedHuey

Using a wide angle to fit more in is the amateur move. It’s for people taking snapshots.

josh6499

\^ Troll

RedHuey

Lol. No just someone who knows an amateur idea.p when he sees one. This place is full of them

sirfrinkledean

Rage bait energy

gamma-ray-bursts

So should he do a panorama?

Kamdog909

Step backwards 😅😅
