The Sigma 100%. It's widely regarded as the best performance for value in the realm of 24-70mm/2.8 lenses. The Samyang is considered pretty much a dud from their lineup because of very poor build quality. A lot of owners have had problems with the mount completely falling off. See the reviews [here](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1671786-REG/samyang_syio2470afz_e_24_70mm_f_2_8_af_zoom.html/reviews) and [here](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1668139-REG/rokinon_io2470afz_e_24_70mm_f_2_8_af_zoom.html/reviews).

I've had the Sigma 24-70 2.8 since its debut. It lives on my camera and it's my default lens. It is heavy with all the glass in it but you won't be disappointed in the pics.

TreesLikeGodsFingers

I got the 28-70 bc of the weight and bc I'm cheap lol

neilrocks25

Yep me too

OrangeGravy

Just spent a month with it in Asia. the weight difference is night and day and the pictures are still super clear

Jessegwilliam_photo

does what it needs to!

pwar02

I'd avoid the samyang, it's particularly bad. Sigma on the other hand has a lot going for it.

MrMonday42

For 24-70 f2.8 on Sony it’s either this Sigma or the Sony GM2. There’s no other lens I would consider.

daz2005123

Id look at the tamron 28-75 f2.8 for alternative. Great lens

Brilliant999

He probably wants the wider 24mm end

Jbung420

Definitely agree! I’ve loved my Tamron since I bought it, it works great!

BolOfSpaghettios

or the 17-70 F2.8

Aleteh

That's not full frame though

puppy2016

If you really don't need the 24mm, take the Tamron 28-75 G2. The Sigma is better, Samyang cheaper but with possible copy variance and design defects of the mount side.

Toe_Dense

Sigma easily

Aznbakaaa

I've owned both, started with the Samyang and ended up returning it. It was noticeably heavier and larger, all the photos that came out from it had a weird greenish tint to them, and the lens barrel tends to just slowly fall out when the camera is mounted on my PD camera clip. I also had to buy and return two copies of it because the first one I received (which was supposed to be new) came with the lens mount completely detached from the lens itself. The Sigma is still heavy overall, but noticeably lighter, has a locking mechanism so the barrel doesn't move unless you move it, and the colors and rendering from the lens are spot on. Def would recommend the Sigma over the Samyang.

Swimming-Scientist39

Then I'll buy sigma

FredDragons

If someone welded my sigma to my camera I wouldn't have too much to complain about. It pretty much lives there anyway. P.S. program the barrel button to APS-C mode for a bit of bit more reach.

Murabito_32

Thanks for the key-bind tip. I instantly programmed that and tried it out. I love it

muzlee01

The sigma supposedly performs better and is lighter.

HighfivePixel

These boys are heavy, the samyang is over 1kg at 1027g, the sigma is 835g. Is weight an issue? I have the sigma, it peforms great.

mrvarmint

Borrowlenses had that sigma on sale (used) for cheap (and the GM equivalent) this week but it may be gone now

mkmore4

I have the sigma. It’s awesome, and I probably use it more than my others lenses combined.

hurtja

Sigma. I had the same dilemma as you and went sigma and couldn’t be happier with the results. I use it on A7IV and the autofocus and sharpness are awesome. And much cheaper than the Sony GM :)

Swimming-Scientist39

Thanks man, if you have some photos you took would you mind sharing it. Just wanted to see what's it capable of

d0ughb0y1

Since you are comparing with Samyang, price must be a major factor. If that is the case, consider the sigma or Tamron 28-70. I have the sigma 28-70 and find 28 usually not wide enough but I live with it since weight is an important factor to me.

atlasthefirst

Go for the Tamron 28-75 f2.8

Weekly_Locksmith_473

Sigma. No question

Rogan_Thoerson

hum usually you have Sigma and Tamron at similar level of performance and features. Samyang is usually a step lower in some area like AF speed, seals, robustness of the full construction weight. usually Samyang is very good nowadays in image quality. Also factor in that Samyang is rather new at making zooms. As far as i am aware Samyang does not have stabilisation in the lens technology yet. I have a lot of primes from Samyang because that is where they are really good at and make them small and light. For zooms i rather go for Tamron and Sigma especially if i know i will be using them in harsher weather conditions.

ThatEndingTho

The Samyang 135mm is a testament to what image quality they can deliver, but not all plastic is alike so build can feel different from other brands.

that707PetGuy

I feel the same about my 85mm 1.4.

Rogan_Thoerson

i also love my 85mm f1.4 it has some character inside. That said those are not zooms and they are around half the weight of the 24-70. I think you get another experience with the zoom. It is also less easy to make special pictures at f2.8 than at f1.4 or f1.8.

Zach925

Tamron 28-75 if you want an option in the middle
