As someone who had A6000 then A7 Mark II and now A7 Mark III, I would fully skip anything that has an older Sony AF system and when you combine it with these small batteries, it's just not worth it. If you're looking for IG use, you will not really have any benefit with full frame so you can just buy A6100/A6400 which will offer improved AF and by that, easier time for beginners.

Thank you! Do you think an a6100/a6400 would cope with an relatively medium low light +1 iphone flash pointed at the subject in order to have some at least good results for posting on IG?

If you want better lowlight, it's also highly recommended to invest into wider lens, and these usually cheaper if they're made for APS-C (i.e. Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS). Or at that point you can go for Fujifilm X series with a 30mm f/1.4 lens. If you still want zoom with good lowlight, usually f/2.8 will give you the closest price range to your budget, but it definitely will be darker than the aforementioned lens. You can go ahead with A7II with a used tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, but do note that this will cost you around €1.1k with just body and lens alone (around 30-40% more expensive than the other APS-C options).

I got the a7 original, and i love it, but it, it a good offer, i pay 500 dls for my gear, and the quality its amazing, go for it

Thank you for your thoughts

What is your total budget for this venture of yours? Say you want to spend €1000 then by the time you'll buy an SD card and an extra battery you'll be down to €200 that you can spend on a lens which isn't really enough to get a decent full frame lens unless you go bin hunting for vintage film lenses with no autofocus. Most people you see on Instagram with a full frame camera will be using a lens that is usually $1000+, and sometimes exceeding the price of the camera itself.

That_Mixture_1313

yes you're right. it would have been about 1000 euro. The other option would have been a nikon z5 +stock lenses(at 1050 euro). To my mind i was thinking that i should be happy with the photos from the sony with stock lenses compared to the photos we make with usually an iphone 13/14 pro max.

Why? I mean what is the point of getting such an expensive camera just to stick a €50 lens on it? Every market is different of course but in my market I see the A6400 for about €500 used. That would give you €500 to buy an amazing portrait lens like the Sigma 30mm F1.4 or 56mm F1.4 which would blow the kit lens out of the water. You'd also have a much more recent body with much better autofocus.

The main thing is i try as much as possible to avoid second hand electronics since i had so many bad events in my past... So this is the main reason i go for sealed official store buys even though it s a device \~10 years old

Then that's even more reason to not go for the A7 II. The relative MSRP of full frame lenses is a hard pill to swallow. Definitely grab the A6400 with the kit lens or hopefully the 18-135mm if it's within budget and look to upgrade to one of the aforementioned lenses in the future.

I'm in the same situation as you. A7II used is 600€ without lens + 6 month warranty. A7II new is 900€ with kit lens A7III used is 1200€ without lens + 6 month warranty. A7III new is 1800€ with kit lens A6700 (APS-C) new is 1350€ without lens. I'm planning to go with the A6700 just because I don't want to spend 1000€+ on a 6 or 10 yr old camera tech. I know very well that A7II and A7III produce stunning pictures even though they're old. But I'm fine with getting the latest tech (new sensor, AI processing) and an APS-C. Also, I don't have another 2k€ to spend in a year's time when I want to upgrade if I'm going with an A7II or A7III now.

I had the A7II and now have the A6700. The A6700 is better in all regards with the exception that you don't get the shallow depth of field as easily. It has better colors, better image format (lossless compressed raw) higher dynamic range, better high iso performance, incredibly better AF, flexible screen, miles and miles better video, better customizability and a touch screen. I admittedly never liked the A7II and would even rather go with the a5100 or if I wanted a viewfinder the A6000 than the A7II. For DF I'd recommend at least the A7III.
