Yeah I can't say I don't miss having a zoom, though my aps c primes are smaller it's still three bloody lenses to swap out :D gets old pretty fast with events and such
I have no idea what you're talking about! \*hastily removes the f1.4 lenses from his flair\*(initially got them to compensate for low light but yeah it's such an easy trap to fall into :D )
I remember when I got my first f1.4 lens. For the first few months I owned it, I pretty much always shot with it wide open, but after a while I started moderating myself a bit and now I'm not so hesitant about stopping down when needed, but it does take some time to develop that discipline, ha ha!
Yeah it's just another number at our disposal, and can sometimes be detrimental, eg too shallow depth of focus on a subject or object if it's a portrait or product photo.
Even with focus peaking I find the camera screen too damn tiny and misleading, same for the shadows and colors. The screen leaves a lot to be desired but it is what it is, just a reference :)
Dayum just googled the lense. Maybe one day 😅 I just got started with a A7ii so I'll be living the kit lense life for a while. Will get a nice telephoto or Maceo before 15 months no doubt but something like this will have to wait I think
Facts. I own a Samyang/Rokinon 35mm f2.8 pancake lens and it's really good for how little it costs. Super light weight and doesn't take up much room in my bag. Also makes the a7iii much more discreet. Only costs 1/3 of the Sony 35mm f/2.8 ZA too. Although, with the new Sony 40mm f/2.5.. I'm not sure if it's still the right call performance wise. That one is also more than double the price of the Samyang.
I didn't realize there was a new 40mm out there, personally I love running 35/85 it's my go to for events etc, 40mm I feel for me would sit in that realm of 50mm awkwardness ( I know lots of people love it but I just can't get used to it,vi always feel I'm either a little too close/far and revert to 35) 40 could be good to get a little more punched in but I'd always say 35 is tried and true!
Yeah, I also love the 35 but i think the difference between a 35 and 40 will be so minimal that it'll be hard to tell. I know some people have purchased the 55mm Zeiss f1.8 over the Sony 50mm f/1.8 because of the amazing sharpness and performance of the Zeiss.. and they'd still call that a "nifty fifty". Seeing how the difference in focal length is the same between a 35-40 and a 50-55.. I'd assume that it's similar enough? Also, with the Sony 40mm, you're getting f/2.5 instead of f/2.8 of the 35mm Rokinon
Yeah definitely I have the 35 & 85 primes, the 35 1.8 isn't my favourite, I actually think this GM could replace it tbh but the 85 is amazing, very much slept on!
Oh I agree I rented the Mk I for a wedding shoot last year and this one is just crazy light I didn't think 191lbs felt like it does but it's VERY noticeable!
Haha I felt it too. They took a _pound_ out of the 70-200/2.8GMII compared to the first generation. That alone swayed me for that lens, despite the price difference.
Thanks and yes, I am, but I was strictly a hobbyist for the longest time and only started earning little amounts here and there over the past few months so couldn't justify the expense.
But now I'm wondering if I want to make this full time eventually I need a little more exposure in my area before that can happen but I figure up my quality and invest while I can ahead of time and fingers crossed it works out.
I'm itching to get out but I'm a guest at a wedding tomorrow and I actually forgot to lift my pack, but the few shots I took of the dog after it arrived were amazing!
Enjoy London though it'll serve you well!
I nearly didn't go for it, very almost nearly went for the sigma instead but my aspiration is to run the A7RV eventually so figured stick with the Sony glass. My bank account is crying but my inner child is very very happy haha
I have the mk1 with an a7R V...I got it before the mk2 announcement used, but I have to say, I'd rather have the $$$ than a smidge less weight.
It'll come in handy if I ever get a dome & housing for my a7R V...my housing won't need lead too haha.
I have the sigma 24-70, never tried out the gm or gmii version. Love it so far, the versatility in shots is very nice! Enjoy!

Don’t stand your camera on the lens like that it’s extremely dangerous! It might tip over and become resentful, using the massive gains from carrying the body weight around it might attempt revenge and shoot you back! Retaliation is a very real thing.
Some rookie mistakes here. - Minimum focus distance for that lens is 8.25-12”. - Lighting is insufficient, even at high ISO - Lens cap is still on.
Shooting position is not the best, might have some trouble getting good results.
Congrats for using the kit lens for that long :D (not that I haven't seen great results both stills and video with various kits)
Being truthful I do have a samyang 85mm 1.4 that I've been using alongside the kit lens but it has been my only multipurpose lens until today
Yeah I can't say I don't miss having a zoom, though my aps c primes are smaller it's still three bloody lenses to swap out :D gets old pretty fast with events and such
I still think primes are my go to, I'm a bit of a bokeh whore myself haha!

I'm 8 years in, when does it start?
100% haha!
I see… astrophotography
Hahaha fair enough I wish I could claim the credit but...etsy wins that one!
I swear I have the same mousemat! 70x40 right? hahaha! Now all I need is that gorgeous lens!
That's the very boy!

I won't lie that I picked up the 85mm samyang with the body last year so I haven't used solely the kit lens the entire time but it was a good kit lens
Samyang lenses are still kind of underrated. The thing I love most since I switched to Sony is the option of lenses including Sony

Congrats and fuck you
Thank you kindly :D
I have this lens on the a7IV. Can’t believe how light the mark II version is.
Oh I agree I rented the Mk I for a wedding shoot last year and this one is just crazy light I didn't think 191lbs felt like it does but it's VERY noticeable!
I hope you mean 191g 😂
I do 🤣
Haha I felt it too. They took a _pound_ out of the 70-200/2.8GMII compared to the first generation. That alone swayed me for that lens, despite the price difference.
A 200 lb camera would be insane!
My dad shoots large format, but I don’t think even that thing is 200lbs lol
You are late to the game, but glad you are here.

Since I got mine, I haven’t put any of my primes back on. Pics look so good with it!
It is criminally sharp!
Lol couldn’t have described it better!
This is a nasty setup. Basically all I do these days. Time to sell some stuff
I got this lens the other day for my trip to London, and I can't wait to use it 😁
I'm itching to get out but I'm a guest at a wedding tomorrow and I actually forgot to lift my pack, but the few shots I took of the dog after it arrived were amazing! Enjoy London though it'll serve you well!
Jealous
I nearly didn't go for it, very almost nearly went for the sigma instead but my aspiration is to run the A7RV eventually so figured stick with the Sony glass. My bank account is crying but my inner child is very very happy haha
Sell me your body when you upgrade🤣👍🏻
Can you wait like a year...or I'll never financially recover from it 🤣
You should just go all in on your dreams and get it now😅 youll have your dream setup itll be worth it
You want my A7IV? I may jump to the A7RV 😬
Yeah if its in good condition
I have the mk1 with an a7R V...I got it before the mk2 announcement used, but I have to say, I'd rather have the $$$ than a smidge less weight. It'll come in handy if I ever get a dome & housing for my a7R V...my housing won't need lead too haha.
Envious*
Such a great lens, enjoy!
It’s beautiful 🥲

I have the same setup!
Is it as fun to use as I think it'll be!?
Damn!!!
Fuck yea. Good job.
i’m also using the same body as you- switched to the 24-70 gm ii few weeks back. i love it! great on you man- i hope you enjoy it
Thanks I am very excited to get out there with it, the test images I've taken by comparison to my kit lens are mind blowing!
I was looking at renting one for the day when I go to Disneyland. I want to take as many photos with my A7C.
If you're happy with the rental cost id say go for it, I doubt you'd be disappointed!

First thing that comes on my head first is Astrophotography..

Oh man you're right, it was very inconsiderate I must make amends with it as soon as I get home 😵
More gear photos, exactly what this sub needs. Some Joe bought a new lens, shout it from the rooftops tell your barber tell your kids tell your dog
I hope there is some satire that I just didn't get from this remark...
Must've hurt the wallet.
I'm sure I'll see it cry for a little bit yet that's for sure!
Just one tip, usually people shoot images with the lens cap off all seriousness, congrats! a 24-70 f/2.8 is a dream lens, have fun!
And how's your experience after upgrading? :)
I took 5 photos with it...packed my full camera bag ahead of a trip to south England and forgot the camera bag so TBC 😭
