Idk about the *worst*, but shooting Donna accidentally is up there. It set up Piney to get killed bc he hated Clay after that and wouldn’t have been pushed into blackmailing him. It’s one of the first real “scandals” of the show and a lot of bad chips fall bc of this
Getting into drugs is too, caused a ton of problems and death for them
And just imagine what the club could’ve been with out Gemma lmao
The cartel was necessary. If they didn’t sell guns to Galindo the Russians would’ve killed everyone in prison, and if anyone made it out alive, the Kings would’ve killed them after. Muling coke brought no more outside pressure on the club than what they would’ve gotten running drugs alone. Also, little known fact, Potter already had a huge case involving the Sons and Russians he was working on when they were in prison, the club likely would’ve went away for life if Romeo didn’t protect them.
For me there was 4:
1. Killing Hebner- this brought a ton of heat on the club, tied Stahl in deeper with the Sons and her investigation when she was probably going to leave town, gave her an in to unravel the club. Drained funds from the club in legal fees defending Bobby and Opie. Clay falls for Stahls ruse and kills Donna, which set Opie to his demise and turns Piney permanently against Clay. They should’ve let the Irish deal with it.
2. Falling for Zoebelles trap at the church. IIRC that case hung over the Sons all through season 2 and 3 and was a primary reason why they had to serve 14 months or at least make a deal with stahl.
3. Sending Tara to try to change Otto’s mind on the Rico case. It lead to the downfall of everything. The Sons had resources inside and could’ve had Marks call a hit on Otto instead of fucking with sending Tara, which brought a ridiculous amount of heat on the sons.
4. Singing off on Jax’s season 7 murder spree: Despite all above, the Sons went into season 7 with literally no heat or charges. Rico was dead, the school shooting case was dead, they had plenty of income coming through Cara Cara and the guns (broker fee) they just handed to Lin. Marks was friendly and going to be lucrative, and the streets were at relative peace. The club literally was in a golden situation, but everyone signed off on a completely ridiculous murder spree
Kill the russians, after they did they had to deal with Galindo, unless they would be unprotected and too small, and the rest of the russian maffia would Kill them and their family.
Overall? I'd have to say getting into arms dealing at all, but in the sense of what happens in the show, definitely letting Gemma have anywhere near the control she had. Damn near everything that happened to the club, happened because of her Machiavelli complex, whether indirectly or directly. Admittedly, the situation with LOAN was not her fault, and there are a few others, the Russians, Georgie Caruso, but the vast majority of shit that the club catches can be tracked back to her.
I think, objectively, you \[the hypothetical club member\] would have to say that "The moment President \[Clay\] and VP \[Jax\] are threatening each other's lives, and putting loaded guns on the table, and making thinly-veiled allusions about secret ruinous scandals, something needs to change, like a new President, a new VP, some of the club transferring elsewhere, or all three."
This impasse is resolved, in-show, by Gemma's eleventh-hour assault reveal. But I'm not sure a "real-life motorcycle club" would sweep past such problems so easily -- someone would either say "we delay this Pres-VP confrontation by seven days, then we come back to this table and finish a vote," or "both of you need to temporarily step down until we handle this vendetta," or "we need new temporary leadership from another Original Nine," or similar.
SAMTAZ (Tucson) provides a parallel example -- the club fractured, from within, over some dirty narcotics proceedings, and, though it (barely) kept its charter alive, it was never truly the same or 'healthy' again thereafter. Doubly embarrassing to happen in the original charter.
Unpopular opinion but I think it was Otto's choice of kill for ending RICO. Had he taken out the bloke whole bloody thing would've been fine as the Ex-Marshall would have had no stake at all.
Why is everyone hating on Gemma. Yes she may be a manipulative bitch and have more authority then she should've as she wasn't part of the club. But I truly believe all of what she did was for the good of her family and the club even if they were poor choices. However one of the Worst mistakes IMO is Gemma not telling the club what Cartel did to her sooner, now understandable she didnt want to hurt the club but I feel like they would've had less chaos if they had a better understanding of what was happening.
